1. CHAPTER TWO
WORK, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ASSIGNMENTS
2.1 How I got to work with the company?
When we were about to complete the fourth-year class, we were given cooperation letter from
AASTU Technology transformation office(?) to find sponsor to stay with during the internship
period for one semester. And as we are requested, I have emailed the IPCOM Technologies
company to accept me. I found this company from internet and I was attracted to work with them.
Some days later they called me for an interview and the first person I met there was Mr.Abiy
Temesgen who is the chief system team leader. He told me about the site they were running, and
he advised me to set my mind that we will work at different sites.
I have been working mainly at College of Health Science at Black Lion Hospital on the project of
Virtualization. Also worked at Zemen Bank for datacenter enhancement project. In addition to
that, I have also visited the new Datacenter project site at Addis Ababa University. Not only that
but also take part on project at Addis Ababa University’s Presidential Lobby.
The procedure I used to perform my task, I first try to understand the task given clearly, if necessary
I read some references for it. Then I partition the task into parts and I try to work step by step also
if I need a help I ask my work team and my mentors.
I have been trying my best to gain a lot of knowledge from the activities we have been performing
during our four months stay with the company and, we have been trying to optimize our
performance from the resources that were available for working. What surprises more about our
hard work is that we have been engaged to work a group of teams and sharing experience and
knowledge. This implies that we had good performance on my stay with the company.
I have been challenged by many factors. One challenge was lack of transportation since my home
from the site is too far I had to wake early and go home lately. Another challenge was the
knowledge I had was most of theoretical, because of that our education system do not give more
opportunity for practical and industrial knowledge. That made me to read day and night to recap
my knowledge with more of practical experience. And to overcome these barriers me and my
friends had been discussing and arguing on more of the practical knowledges. And we were curious
about the devices used, the technology deployed and have developed good working habits.
2.2 Objective of the internship

2. Objective of the internship is make connections, create relationship. Become more comfortable
speaking with adults, professionals, businesspeople, etc.
 Improve communication skills (face-to-face, phone, email, etc.).
 Match students that I know with jobs that are in their field of study.
 Acquire experience working on a team and being a team player.
 Learn more about leadership and managerial skills.
 Continually work on my leadership skills.
 Have a clearer idea of what I want to do after graduation.
 Make connections with what I have learned in class and what I am learning here.
