Audience Electronicmethodsused Why
Student body Students often communicate using the
internet; they use social networking
sites such as Facebook.Students may
also use email even though this is less
common. Therefore these methods of
communication could be more ideal
for the school to use to contact the
student body.
The students can be contacted through the
school Facebookpage whichmeans regular
updates can be announced and everyone that
“likes” the page can see the updates. The school
can also contactthe students through email such
as sending workcorrections but more important
information is likely to be sent by mail.
Parents Parents also use social networking
sites such as Facebookto
communicate but not as much, they
use email to communicate for
important things. Therefore the use of
email is more ideal to contactthe
parents.
The reason that it is ideal to email the parents is
that it is easy, fast, and can be done in bulk. The
school can tell the parents of important
information that they need quicker feedback on
as a letter takes time to arrive. An example of
this wouldbe asking the parents to provide
permission forthe student to go on a trip on
short notice.
Staff Staff usually use email as this is the
more preferred form of
communication in the school
environment. Staff may also use sites
that offer teaching advice such as
forums.
The reason staff use email is because this shows
a written copy when sending a message and they
can send messages to other staff members.
These messages are also monitored so it gives
more insight into the staff’s actions. An example
of this would be that the staff woulduse email to
notify another member of staff that they need a
students work backto mark.
Governors The governors are most likely to use
email than everything else. Facebook
would not be a good method because
the information wouldnot be as
secure and they are usually contacted
with important information.
The reason for this is that if they need to send
out a message it is likely to be one that is
important and therefore they need a written
copy.An example of this would be emailing the
governors about arranging a publicity event.
Local
community
The local community is built up of
many people so they are most likely to
use Facebook,email, Twitterand SMS.
Therefore they are most likely to be
notified by Facebookas this
information is available to the public.
The reason why Facebookis used is because the
information that is posted is available for
everyone to see and therefore it makes it easier
for people that want toknow the information by
regular updates. An example of this would be the
school posting an update about high grades
percentage.
Feeder
schools
Feeder schools are most likely to use
email; they may also use the internet.
Email may be used to organise events
and joint trips between schools.
The reason why they use email is because it is
both formal and provides a written copy. Using
email sets a good professional example for the
school and it allowsthem to safely send the
important information.

Audience Non-electronicmethodsused Why
Student body If students were to use a non-
electronic formof communication it
would be likely to be a letter.
Its easier and more preferred for schools to send
letters, they can be sent in bulk supply, to many
people and they do not take long to arrive.
Howeverthe letters are usually addressed to the
parents. An example of this would be sending a
letter forpermission fora trip or a trip abroad.
Parents Parents are likely to use letters, more
commonly people that used to send
letters before electronic
communications.
Its easier for the school to send letters to the
parents as the school holds the students address
on record and this means that they know where
the parents live whereas they may not know the
email.
Staff Staff are likely to use a variety of
different methods, letters, memos,
leaflets and newsletters are used.
They are used in many wayssuch as
to inform staff and to inform parents.
The reason staff use these methods is because
they need to inform in many ways, the letters are
to inform of important information. The memos
are used to remind them of schedule plans, the
leaflets and newsletters are to inform of
improvements and what’s available.
Governors The governors are likely to use letters
to communicate but they may also use
newsletters and send them out to
parents or people interested in the
school.
The school wouldsend letters to the governors
as it is an easy way of sending the important
information to them safely. Eventhough there is
no written copy available to the school the
information is secure. An example of this would
be sending a letter to governors requesting
extensions or building permission.
Local
community
The local community does not use
letters as much as they used to so
these are not the ideal forms of
communication. Leaflets and
newsletters are usually available so
these may be a way of contacting
them.
The reason why leaflets are useful is because it
can promote certain subjects to parents of
students and persuade them to join. Newsletters
are also good because it shows the updates of
the school. An example of this would be creating
a leaflet promoting A levels whichwould be
distributed.
Feeder
schools
Feeder schools are most likely to use
letters to communicate, leaflets or
newsletters wouldbe inappropriate.
The reason why they use letters is because it’s a
simple way of sending out a message to many
recipients and it appears to be more preferred.
