4. INTRODUCTION
•The internship program is aimed to get
students to acquire practical skills, by gaining
them professional skills in addition to
theoretical lessons learnt in class.
•We got into IPCOM technologies trading
company to work, during the period.

•IPCOM is private limited company which is
founded eight years ago to give complete ICT
solutions for its clients.
•The company has been working on many projects
acquiring them to be more experienced and fully
updated with latest technologies.

During our stay at IPCOM technologies, there are 3 sites we
actively worked on.

10. VIRTUALIZATION TECHNOLOGY
•Virtualization is combined environment to manage
all resources from one interface. And it can be
seen like a big computer consisting of three main
important things.

To implement VDI,
there are important
tasks we did:

14. SOME TECHNICAL DETAILS
• Servers: The blade enclosure is the rock-solid foundation for Dell’s blade server
architecture, providing an extremely reliable, flexible and efficient platform for
building any IT infrastructure.
• To function as a system, a blade is inserted into an enclosure that supports power
supplies, fan modules, a CMC module.

15. STORAGE SYSTEM
• The storage used here is block storage, which is an IP storage.
The IP Storage is approach to use the IP over SAN. There are
duplicate of the storage just to back up the first memory in case it
is failed or corrupted due to different reasons.

18. PILOT TESTING
• As being workers at IPCOM, we are expected to test the whole
project and we has observed some problems and improved them.
• We were given task to support for all medical students at Addis
Ababa University College of Health Science.

19. DATACENTER ENHANCEMENT
AND MIGRATION
• It’s the improvement of existing bank system for Zemen
bank, head quarter. This includes to redesign the whole
data center to improve their system since the bank
system needs to update its technology and their services.
• The first task we did was to identify all cables one by one,
according to the design.
• Cable tracing is one of the most challenging task, which
almost took more than a week to finalize it.

• Being as an electrical engineer, it was really upsetting to
see how the cables are managed inside the server room.
• Even if just simple problem was there, one cannot identify
which cable is what and the technical experts need to
trace back all cables one by one to see what the problem
was.

• Another task we did there was, to mount new rack for backup system with new
tape drives to store their files. There are different components used for the new
backup system. And the data will be redirected to the drives through fiber optic
cables.

•A modular data center can be defined as more of
an approach to data center design that
incorporates contained units, many times in the
form of prefabricated modules.
•It’s new system for Addis Ababa University
Registrar and Migration the old system.

28. CONCLUSION
• During our stay at IPCOM technologies we have acquired
much knowledge which are both practical and
professional.
• We got chance to apply what we have been taught for
four years of our stay at Addis Ababa Science and
Technology University.
• We have got to meet new people with new problem-
solving skill that helped us to re-shape our future career
life.

29. RECOMMENDATION
• For IPCOM technologies, we have observed some weakness
beside their strength.
• The first thing is that most of work load are on shoulders of
certain employees.
• The top-level employees work all design, implementation,
documentation, support and training by themselves in addition
to finding requirement analysis for different bids.

30. RECOMMENDATION
• For the college, we advice them,
• Assign the academic advisor in appropriate time
• Give all the required materials to the students before the
internship program starts.
• For Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, we
recommend to deploy the Virtualization technology since its very
crucial latest technology.
• To create relationship with IPCOM company to further place
interns and be partnered with them.
