• Give opinions.
• Agree and disagree in a formal or neutral register.
• Choose whether to agree or disagree with the
statement provided in the task, or discuss both sides.
• Plan ONE paragraph for each of the THREE argumens
carefully.
• Get some practice in writing appropriate opening and
closing paragraphs.
• Avoid side comments in essays

– In a formal register, any statement within brackets

sentence in which it occurs. That is the sentence
should be complete, even if the contents of the
brackets were to be removed.
– Keep brackets to a minimum!
