2. INTRODUCTION:
• The CEPT university was established as the School of Architecture in 1962.
• The Indian Architect B.V.Doshi constructed this institute
• It covers area about 12.5 Acre.
• Thoughts came to develop a campus for offering a programs related to planning, building and construction
technology, interior design, landscape architecture and environmental issues.
• Program such as urban design Landscape Architecture, structural design were added to the schedule

• One of the best examples of spatial planning with interesting
pathways.

• THERE ARE INCLINE SKYLIGHTS ON THE TOP OF
THE STUDIO, PERPETUALLY LETTING IN NATURAL

• THE STUDIO SPACES HAVE BAY SPACES FACING THE
EXTERIOR , CREATING SEMI PRIVATE SPACES WHICH
ARE YET TOTALLY OPEN TO THE EXTERIOR SPACES
WHERE THE INDIVIDUAL CAN BE ALONE WITH NATURE
EVEN IN THE ENVIRONMENT OF A STUDIO.
• THE BUILDINGS ARE PLACED AWAY FROM THE MAIN ROAD WITH
TREES AT THE MIDST OF ROAD AND BUILDING SITE. THEY ARE
ACTING AS BARRIERS THAT REDUCE THE NOSIE POLLUTION FROM
THE ROAD. THESE TREES COVERS THE VIEW OF THE BUILDING
FROM OUTSIDE CENTRE FOR ENIVIRONMENTAL PLANNING AND
TECHNOLOGY.

LOUVERED FACADE CAN BE MANUALLY ADJUSTED TO ALLOW IN LESS
LIGHT OR MORE VENTILATION IN RESPONSE TO AHMEDABAD’S

LOCATED AT -4 METERS AND -8 METERS BELOW GROUND LEVEL, THE

THE CENTRAL COURT YARD IS A COMBINATION OF PAVED AND UNPAVED
AREAS,SHADED BY TREES IN CERTAIN AREAS. ALL ENTRANCES ARE LINKED TO THE
COURTYARD BY PEDESTRAIN PATHWAYS. HENCE THE COURTYARD IS AN AREA OF
HEAVY CIRCULATION OF INTERACTION. CENTRE FOR ENIVIRONMENTAL PLANNING AND
TECHNOLOGY
VENTILATION
• THE PARALLEL WALLS,FORMING AN OPEN TUBE OF SPACE ARE
PREDOMINANTLY ALIGNED NORTH- SOUTH,EFFECTIVELY CLOSE TO
EAST AND WEST SIDE
• NORTH SIDE IS HEIGHTENED TO ALLOW MORE LIGHT IN WHILE THE
SOUTH SIDE IS KEPT LOW TO SHIELD FROM DIRECT RADIATION.
LANDSCAPE
• THE CAMPUS IS FULL OF NEEM TREES,WHICH WERE PLANTED OVER THE YEARS
SINCE THE INTIAL PHASE MAKES HOT AHMEDABAD CLIMATE COOLER.
• THE TREES PROVIDE A PERPETUAL CHANGING PATTERN OF LIGHT AND SHADE
• THERE ARE MANY INTERCONNECTING PATHWAYS WITH BRICK PAVING AND
TERRACOTTATILING
• THERE ARE ALSO SMALL PLANTS WITHIN THE BUILDING AND PLOTTED PLANTS AT
PLACES
• THE STEPS IN FACT BECOME EXTERNALACTIVITY HUBS WITH STUDENTS USING
THE LEVELS FOR READING,ORGANSING INFORMAL
DISCUSSIONS,PERFORMANCES OR EVEN FOR SIMPLY LAZING AROUND CENTRE
FOR ENIVIRONMENTAL PLANNING AND TECHNOLOGY
THE OPEN SPACES AND THE SHADED ONCE MERGE WITH THE LANDSCAPE
13. OBSERVATIONS
• SIMPLE STURCTURE OF PARALLEL BRICK WALL AND CONCRETE BEAMS AND FLOORS THAT IS EXTENDABLE
AND EASY TO MAINTAIN.
• AN OPEN PLACE WITH HARDLY ANY DOOR . NO FEELING OF RESTRICTION TO EXCHANGE OF THE IDEAS AND
FREE SCOPE OF TEACHING AND LEARNING ANYWHERE.
• MORE USE OF INTERACTION AND TRANSITION AREAS LIKE CORRIDORS , GALLERIES AND COURTS AND
FOYERS THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS
• BUILDING LOOKING INWARD MAKES THE ENVIRONMENT LIBELIER.
• CIRCULATION IS SO EASY TO MAKE ALL THE BUILDING ACCESSIBLE.
• THE INFORMAL INTERACTION SPACES WITH TREES AND SEATING MAKE THEM RELAXING AND CALM.
