4. The name of the center comes from April 1995 when
a proposal by the Senate was approved by the School
Board. The center was renamed IES Escultor Juan de
Villanueva.
However, the history of the high school goes back to
1979-1980 when created in Pola de Siero a section of
vocational training, installed in the buildings of the
school Alfonso X the Wise and dependent of the
Institute Vocational Training Doctor Fleming. There,
they taught teachings corresponding to first grade in
the branches of administration and auto motion.

5. The High School was created in 1982. Two years
later, Auto motion's branches were translated to
Noreña and in 1982-1988 a new Medium Grade
branch was added: Chemistry.
In 1991-1992 the professional teachings coexist with
ESO and Bachiller ones.
In 1997 informative cycles of Medium Grade of
Administrative and Laboratory were stablished,
Alimentary Industries: Diary Products Elaborations
were added too.
2002-2003 year 1st ESO students from Lieres, Sariego
and Pola de Siero are incorporated. In 2004-2005 the
Bilingual Programme starts in ESO and Bachiller.

6. Students who at the end of the ESO, have acquired
the basic skills and objectives of the stage, get the title
of graduate in Secondary Education (TGESO).
Those attending the ESO and can not get the title will
receive a certificate of attendance in the school stating
the materials and the years studied.
Those who have completed a program of initial
professional qualification (PCPI) will be awarded the
degree in Secondary Education if they have passed
the modules that lead to obtaining this title.
With the title graduate in Secondary Education can
enter the labour market, a university or a training
cycle Intermediate.
