Life Navigators is a nonprofit that supports individuals with disabilities. In 2013, they focused on offering more community outings and social events. Through these, consumers developed skills and friendships. One consumer, Roger, went from being shy to more confident and social. The organization is thankful for its donors and volunteers who make its work possible. Financially, it had over $1.4 million in expenses supporting over 4,700 individuals. Starting in 2008, LiveWorkPlay embarked on a journey of “de-programming” by making a shift from congregated programs to authentic community-based, person-centred, and assets-focused thinking and processes. Beyond exciting outcomes such as first homes, first jobs, and first experiences engaging in the community with other citizens, with respect to the experience of an included life, the impact is all about the development of reciprocal relationships and interdependence (social capital).
This document provides information about a regional forum on workforce housing, including:
1) A list of partners who supported planning and executing the forum.
2) A detailed agenda with times, speakers, and topics for panels on the importance of workforce housing, case studies, and partnerships.
3) Brief biographies of several speakers, including their backgrounds in areas like affordable housing, real estate, economic development, and advocacy.
In 2014, United Way of Greater Knoxville had several successes including exceeding their historic fundraising goal of $13 million and helping to fund a housing project for 20 homeless veterans. When talking to the general public about disability and accessibility, this is often what comes to mind: they see a person in a wheelchair who cannot get through the door. These types of barriers remain of course, and I am sure right here in this city someone will go out looking for work tomorrow and experience this very same injustice. But today I want to talk about a different type of barrier, a different level of injustice: what if the very people and systems that are supposed to be supporting a person with a disability to have success in the community are deliberately investing in keeping them out of the community? What if they are discouraged from even trying to get through the door?

Open Contracting and Data Standards: Lessons from the International Aid Trans...ocdata
Bond has supported 175 UK and 44 non-UK NGOs to implement the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) standard, funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). As a member of the IATI Steering Committee and co-chair of working groups, Bond works closely with the IATI technical team and advises national NGO networks on using IATI. Bond also works with DFID and its fund managers to share guidance on IATI implementation via its website and events. A team of two staff members at Bond handle around 50 technical inquiries per month regarding IATI.

Kathy Sykes presented on EPA's Building Healthy Communities for Active Aging Awards program. She discussed how smart growth approaches like mixed-use development, affordable housing, and transportation options can promote active aging. The program awarded 21 communities that took collaborative, cross-sector approaches to address aging needs through community design. Common themes among winners were strong partnerships, addressing affordability and accessibility, and prioritizing independent living. Sykes concluded that lasting change requires leadership and multiple stakeholders working together towards shared goals of health and participation for all ages.
