open to change.
● More ethnically and racially diverse than older adults.
● Less religious, less likely to have served in the military.
● On track to become the most educated generation in American history.
● Career Opportunities have been badly set back by the Recession, but they are more upbeat than their elders
about their own economic futures as well as about the overall state of the nation

● Have to meet them where they are. Know where they live (online)
● Provide content that is easy to digest
● Explain and show your impact
o Otherwise they’ll find it on their own, and if they don’t they’ll
move on to support a different organization
● Create options
o Donating time or funds
 In a Millennial’s mind these have the same value
● Millennials won’t just read a pamphlet and donate. They want to be
on the ground in the trenches. They want to feel deeply connected
to the organizations that they support.

What Exactly is a Millennial? #CCstruggleisreal ● Born between 1980 and the early 2000s. ● Confident, self-expressive, liberal, upbeat and open to change. ● More ethnically and racially diverse than older adults. ● Less religious, less likely to have served in the military. ● On track to become the most educated generation in American history. ● Career Opportunities have been badly set back by the Recession, but they are more upbeat than their elders about their own economic futures as well as about the overall state of the nation

  • 8. What makes them different? THE most important difference between them and previous generations is this: ● Millennials shop for their causes online rather than inheriting them from peers, parents, etc. #CCstruggleisreal
  • 9. They Run in Packs ● Millennials are influenced by the decisions and behaviors of their peers. ● They live in an era where ideas and ideals can be spread instantly through the internet. ● They can find and connect with like-minded online. #CCstruggleisreal
  • 10. More Than Just a Donor #CCstruggleisreal Millennials can be an online advocate for promoting your cause and fundraisers

Everything Mobile! #CCstruggleisreal ● 85% of Millennials aged 18-24 own mobile devices ● They spend 14.5 hours per week on their phones, talking, texting or using social media ● Email and social media sites such as Facebook are among the most popular used apps on a Millennial’s mobile phone
  • 12. OK, So How Do I Get a Millennial to Support My Organization? ● Have to meet them where they are. Know where they live (online) ● Provide content that is easy to digest ● Explain and show your impact o Otherwise they’ll find it on their own, and if they don’t they’ll move on to support a different organization ● Create options o Donating time or funds  In a Millennial’s mind these have the same value ● Millennials won’t just read a pamphlet and donate. They want to be on the ground in the trenches. They want to feel deeply connected to the organizations that they support. #CCstruggleisreal
