The Naked Citadel Summary
Altering Women The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be
denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex (US
Constitution 19th Amendment). These were the few words that thousands of women
fought for. From the beginning of mankind women have been treated unequally from
men. Women have had to fight to win the same rights as the men who were born
with them. As women progressed gaining equal rights as men, society also became
more advanced changing its guidelines of how women should act. Leslie Bell in her
story, Selections from Hard to Get: Twenty Something Women and the Paradox of
Sexual Freedom, discusses how women nowadays have to adhere and alter their
personalities to meet society s new norms. Often women who try to change
themselves experience splitting . Bell gives examples of women, her patients, who
have dealt with splitting and talks about how they changed themselves to fit into
society. Some ideas from Bell s story can be related to Susan Faludis story, The
Naked Citadel. The Citadel is an all boys military school, but this all changes when
Shannon Faulkner, a girl, is allowed to attend it. Since no other girl has attended The
Citadel, Shannon does not know how to adjust and act in the new atmosphere.
Women, like Bell s patients and Shannon, have tried to changed themselves to fit into
the new society. These women did not want to be outcasts, so they had to adjust to
the new world. Men have had it easier

The artefact that I choose is Shugo Chara!, which is a Japanese anime. In the artefact,
I can conduct both oppositional reading and produce unique meanings. In the artefact,
the female images are quite convention. All of the female characters are very
beautiful and sexualized, most of them are with long hair and beautiful shape. Also,
their dress code is following the normal Japanese s concept of aesthetic, which are
with very short skirt and white shirt. Moreover, the love relationship between main
characters is too muddled. According to the artefact, the setting of main characters is
primary school students. However, they have a crush on the opposite sex main

7 Minutes Of Terror Essay
Sometimes when we look at it, it looks crazy, said Adam Steltzner. Adam is an
engineer who works for NASA, a part of the United States government that explores
space. Adam was talking about landing something on Mars. It is the result of
reasoned engineering thought. But it still looks crazy.
Adam and some of the people he works with made a video called Seven Minutes of
Terror about a Mars landing. In the video, they introduced people around the world to
one of the most daring and creative achievements of engineering ever completed.
That achievement was the pinpoint landing of Curiosity on Mars. Curiosity is a
machine called a rover, and it was built to explore the surface of Mars.
The seven minutes described in Adam s video refer to ... Show more content on

Instead, engineers came up with a maneuver that would allow the craft carrying
Curiosity to turn quickly. Then, rockets would turn on and allow Curiosity to make a
vertical landing.
Switching from a parachute to a controlled rocket descent could have gone wrong at
any time. Still, even getting the descent right was not enough to succeed. Once the
parachute was cut free, the force from the rockets could raise so much dust that the
dust itself could damage the rover.
Always thinking ahead, the engineers came up with a solution. They created a
device to complete the last step of the landing. The device was called a sky crane.
When the sky crane was close to Mars s surface, it used a set of cables to lower
Curiosity onto the ground.
At last Curiosity landed, going from 13,000 miles per hour to zero in just seven
minutes. The capsule that had been carrying Curiosity still had all its rockets firing.
It blasted back into the sky and landed somewhere else on the planet. The landing
was a success.
The Ongoing Mission
NASA says that the MSL mission is part of a long term plan. This plan uses robots
to explore Mars. The most popular question is whether there ever was life on Mars.
Looking for the answer to that question is just one piece of a bigger

Magna Carta Historical Documents
DSPA There was many documents that influenced the writing of the constitution.
Some people may say we stole parts from them, but I believe we borrowed them and
made them better. We made them better because they were now part of the United
States of America. From the Magna Carta to the Articles of Confederation, writings
all around the world influenced the US constitution. Even though we copyrighted
some of the constitution it is still one of the most ingenious writings in the world.
The first document to influence the constitution was the Magna Carta. The Magna
Carta declared everyone was subject to law, even the king. It also said that no one
could be put through cruel or unusual punishment. Another thing it said was the
everyone had the right to a fair trial and justice. Magna Carta means great charter in
latin. It also included the right to speedy trial. The Magna Carta influenced many
parts of the constitution. The first thing it influenced was that the king and
government were bound to the same laws as the citizens. This means that the king
and the government weren t above the law, just like the president and US
government. Another thing that is similar is the right to a fair and speedy trial just
like in the bill of rights. The last area that is similar is that no one could be put
through cruel and unusual punishment. That is just one of many historical documents
that influenced the constitution.
The second historical document was the Mayflower Compact. The

Analysis of Extended Metaphor in Mother To Son
The Harlem Renaissance was a movement that took place in Harlem, New York in
the 1920 s that identified new cultural identity and expressed talent. Langston
Hughes, born in 1902, is one of the most influential figures during this time period.
He is the author of many poems that continue to inspire people to this day. One of
them, published first in the magazine, Crisis, and then also in his first collection, The
Weary Blues, is titled Mother To Son . The poem is a heart touching conversation
between a mother and her son, however the son never speaks as the mother shares her
knowledge of life with him. Throughout the poem, Hughes uses an extended
metaphor to convey the mother s advice. The ... Show more content on

The metaphor means that the mother s life was not easy. However, although her
life may not have been easy, she did not give up. She shares this with her son, in
hopes of him learning to do the same. Life is not perfect. She knows he will run into
obstacles along the way, but she wants him to understand that those obstacles should
not interfere with his success in the future. Above all, she wants to show him that
although life may be challenging, giving up is not worth it. Instead of giving up, she
wants him to try harder, and endure past his struggles to achieve success. The
purpose of this metaphor is to inform, since it informs the public about what life was
like for an African Americanduring the Harlem Renaissance. The theme of the poem
is endurance. The extended metaphor explains the theme since it reveals that the
mother s life has been rough, but it also shows that the mother has not given up.
Rather, she has kept on trying, and has endured past her struggles. A hopeful emotion
is expressed by the metaphor. The metaphor explains this emotion because the
mother is hopeful that her son will learn to apply her advice in his life. The poem
repeats the metaphor near the beginning and at the end to emphasize the mother s
wise advice to her
Superstar Basketball Player Vs. National Basketball...
Almost every basketball player in the National Basketball association is good, but
every player isn t great at the game. Some players have great expectations for
themselves, not for every player on the team. Some players look out for their entire
team, taking on a bigger role and more responsibilities. Superstar basketballplayers
playa bigger role in the game than non superstars, though they both have something to
achieve on and off of the court.
Every superstar basketball player in the National Basketball Association tries his
hardest to perform better than any other player on the court when it s game time, day
in and day out. These superstar players are constantly in the gym working on every
statistic so they can improve their game. To

Taobao s Success 5 problem was solved by eBay Each, but without doubt, eBay Each
lost its advantage in credit transaction.
Third, eBay Each used advertisement blocking tactics to fight Taobao. In 2003, the
biggest three portal in China (Sohu, Sina, 163) made a deal with e Bay that they
would never use Taobao s advertisement. To fix this problem, Taobao use a lot of
traditional medium such as newspaper, TV or subway stops, bus, road advertising.
Moreover, Taobao also made a co operation with Yahoo, using Yahoo s search bid,
investing 2 million keywords. Then Taobao increased the keywords to 3 million, and
the hits up to 6million in one day. That made Taobao beyond its opponent in two key
indicators, accounting for the initiative in future competition. Furthermore, another
difference in Taobao s advertisements, their membership in the trading process could
feel lively culture of family. Fourth, eBay Each and Taobao had a significant
understianding gap in market positioning. EBay Each have their global strategy and
want to do business with the people who are 30 40years old. While Taobao s
strategy is localization, and its target population was also younger than its

Scrotal Ultrasound Research Paper
What Is A Scrotal Ultrasound?
A scrotal ultrasound, also known as a testicular ultrasound or a testicular sonogram,
is a diagnostic test that produces images of a man s testicles and the surrounding
tissues. To get these images, high frequency sound waves are used.
Who Is A Candidate?
Patients who experience pain or swelling in their testicles may be referred for a
scrotal ultrasound. Any patient who has discovered a mass in or near his scrotum
could also be a candidate for the procedure. The test could also be used to diagnose
blood flow issues, which could be related to injuries or fertility issues.
Medical conditions typically diagnosed with the help of scrotal ultrasounds include
epididymitis, testicular cancer, cysts, abscesses, benign tumors, testicular torsion,
retractile testicles and infertility issues. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also does not require any preparation, such as fasting, sedatives, anesthesia or
topical numbing agents.
During the procedure, which lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes, a patient lies on
his back on an exam table with his legs spread. A technician will then apply a warm,
clear gel to his scrotum to help the ultrasound transducer move smoothly over his
skin. The gel also helps conduct the sound waves through the patient s body. At this
point, the technician will gently press the transducer against the scrotum and move it
back and forth at various angles. The patient may feel pressure as this is done, but he
should feel no pain.
As the technician moves the transducer, it produces sonogram waves that bounce off
the structures inside the scrotum, including the testicles, blood vessels and any
abnormal tissues. These waves are then sent to a computer, which processes the
information into detailed images.
After the procedure is over, the patient will be able to resume normal
Food In Thai Food
For many people in Thailand today, food has become a very important aspect of
any holiday celebration and special occasions. In the American western cuisine
today, a regular restaurant quality meal consists of appetizers, followed by the main
course, and ends with a serving of dessert, where each person would order his or her
own food. In Thailand it s the complete opposite to the American cuisine where they
would never have any structure in their meals like beginning with appetizers and
ending with dessert. In Thai cuisinethe number of dishes is based on the number of
people there are around the table, so for example if there are ten people, then ten
dishes would be order. One interesting aspect about Thai cuisine is that everyone
sitting around the table would equally share their food, so that no one would get
stuck with eating the same plate of food, everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy the
unique flavors of all the different dishes. The main reason that the Thais share their
food is because they believe that it is bad luck for them to eat alone and they see
that each meal is a big celebration of social and friendly interactions.
When the Thais finished eating all of their food, they would pack up all of the
leftover foods from the meal and store it in the refrigerator to eat the next day. The
people of Thailand have a strong belief that throwing away food is a very sinful
thing to do since it will dishonor and anger the Thai god causing famine and
starvation among
Polar Bear Persuasive Techniques
I have picked two videos that I felt have persuasive techniques in two places.
Saving polar bears and the coca cola soda, I have chosen the polar bears. The polar
bears Sledding and Shooting stars. The content of these two ads gives a message is
that polar bears create a character of innocent, fun, and shows reflections of the best
attributes that is close to us humans. It s saying that bears are filled with fun and can
be mischievous at times. Also, it shows these bears are the ones being extinct. The
persuasive techniques being used is the promoting of Christmas and the selling
product of the coca colabrand. Coca Cola has been around for decades, so showing
how their product is worth giving on holidays and that it brings everyone together
even bears. The emotional and logic appeals of these commercial are its shows the
audience a nice ice cold coke that polar bears are holding but also giving as a peace
offering. Which in some case also pressures the audience to buy and think of how
adorable the bears are especially the baby bears. This also builds on the emotional
side of animal lovers, using the cute bears with soda is very influenced by an
aspect of the commercial. Cola using bears in a family context to target the
holidays, so in this case, it provides credibility, emotion to its appealing audiences.
When I watch these two commercials I tell you that I do go out on the holidays
and I get the five to ten at stop and shop Coca Cola cases. I buy it because of the
drink and also because of the image it has on the box of the cute polar bears, also
the idea of it being a Christmas a time which family come together and give.
Analysis Of Under The Influence By Scott Russell Sanders
In Under the Influence by Scott Russell Sanders, an American novelist, the author
explains the struggles he had to go through while dealing with his alcoholic father.
Alcoholism has slowly transformed his father into a completely different person, and
even a different creature at times. Every time his father would get drunk, Sanders and
his familyfelt as if he was losing a piece of his dad. The family felt ashamed of the
disease that had consumed their father and this developed where telling other people
was impossible, making their father s alcoholism a secret that the family kept hidden
and closed away from the rest of the world. They felt the need to try and help their
troubled family member. Sanders even states how he thinks that... Show more content

Sanders confesses the problems he and his family had to go through throughout
the many years that alcoholism had consumed his father. Not only did the alcohol
change his father, but it changed the way their family lived. Sanders family, like
any family, should be tied together with an infinite rope, yet alcoholism came as a
saw into the family, tearing it apart. Sanders tries explaining this problem when
asking, Why our father, so playful and competent and kind when sober, would
choose to ruin himself and punish his family, we could not fathom (Sanders 91).
Although Sanders father sober, like many others, was playful and kind ,
alcoholism transformed him into a different and disastrous person. His family felt
punished, as the alcohol was coming between the father and the rest of the family.
However, not only was his father slipping away from the family, he was turning
into creature different than everyone else. This is clear in Sanders essay as he
wakes with a grunt , snarls back and growls when communicating with his wife
(Sanders 87). Sanders specifically uses these savage words to fully express the
way his father was like after drinking. The text infers that Sanders father was a
different creature because of the inhumane noises coming from him. These noises,
along with the feeling of falling apart, are factors proving the negative effect of
alcoholism. Sanders family is not alone with this. Whenever my father would
smoke, it was as if the smoke being blown out of his mouth was a piece of him
leaving. This affected my family as we felt as if we didn t recognize the man that
had stepped back inside from smoking his cigarette. Sanders realizes that as
alcoholism consumes a person, that person will transform into an indistinguishable
character, while also tearing apart a

Chlamydia Pneumoniae And Cardiovascular Diseases
Chlamydia Pneumoniae and Cardiovascular diseases By: Karishma Shroff Direct
study assignment Abstract Introduction Chlamydia Pneumoniae comes from a
distinct Chlamydia species. This type of infection is usually associated with
atherosclerotic vascular disease mainly. It is an obligate intracellular bacterium
that will infect humans and is the major leading cause of pneumonia. The bacteria,
for it to reproduce, must infect other cells which is what makes it an obligate
intracellular pathogen. C. Pneumoniae is a gram negative bacterium which will
undergo several transitions during its life cycles. This bacterium is an elementary
body (EB) meaning that it is resistant to environmental stresses and can survive
outside its host for a long amount of time but it s not a biologically active
pathogen. The way this EB works is that, it will travel from the lung of an infected
person to the lungs of the uninfected person in small droplets and will then become
responsible for the infection. The EB then goes through the process of
phagocytosis and becomes the reticulate body (RB); it then can start its replication
process within the endosome. It then will convert itself back to EB and infect the
cells in the lungs of the host killing the host cell in the process. This infections life
cycle is split up between the EB, which can infect new hosts but it s not able to
replicate, and the RB, which is replicable but it is not able to infect other cells to

she managed to receive support from a Pastor and was able to convince the public
regarding the horrific CD Acts by speaking French. Then, she travelled to Rome,
Switzerland and Geneva, to hold meetings, but the greatest problem still lies in
Paris. The St Lazare hospital in Paris was a nightmare for prostitutes, for it was
overcrowded; reeked of sewage, and the treatment was equipped with unhygienic
medical tools, which spread the diseases even more. Yet, miracles were always with

Grit And Mindet In Shakespeare s Othello
Grit and mindset are two extremely important concepts in Shakespeare s play othello.
First the
concepts of grit and mindset are something that need dissecting before applying them
to othello
and its characters. Grit is a personality trait that has been thoroughly researched and
studied by
professor Angela Duckworth. An assistant professor of psychology at the university of
Pennsylvania, Duckworth has spent quite a long time researching Grit. She has
defined grit as
sticking with things over the very long term until you master them. so basically,
being gritty
means to be able to be in it for the long haul, or finishing what you started. The thing
about grit
is that it exists mainly in people who you wouldn t think are very capable of ... Show

Duckworth has created what she calls the grit scale. The
individual rates themselves on a series of 8 to 12 things. It s something that is self
recorded.
Duckworth s research has yielded that grit score is highly predictive of a person s
achievement.
What Angela Duckworth has found is that grit contributes to success academically as
well as in
day to day life. If a student has more grit, then they will most likely be more
successful in life. If
you dont have the motivation or the determination to see it through to the end, then
what s the
point of all that intelligence? Grit is not the only thing that must be elaborated on
before we
begin to apply it to shakespears Othello. The concept of mindset must also be
discussed in detail
to fully understand the main point of what is being discussed. The concept of
mindset and how it
affects people s lives is studied by psychologist Carol Dweck. Dweck studies how a
person s
mindset can affect their life and motivation. She has classified two specific types of
mindsets that
people possess. The Growth mindset which is basically the positive outlook on life,
and the
Fixed mindset which is the negative outlook on life. People with the fixed mindset

Ancient Egyptian Civilization
The ancient Egyptian civilization is arguably the oldest civilization in the world. It
is believed to have emerged around 5,500 years ago, although some scholars have
estimated an even earlier date. During the predynastic period the Egyptians were not
united, but as the Sahara desert expanded many people began moving their
settlements around the Nile River. These settlements started coming together to form
towns. As these towns progressed they developed many new ideas to help the
society run smoother. However the total unification and start of the ancient Egyptian
civilization did not happen, until Hierakonpolis expanded and conquered Naqada.
The ancient Egyptian civilization was now created. Since this civilization was one
of the first in the world, there was no structure to start with. In order to function as a
thriving civilization, the Egyptians had to accomplish agricultural, architectural,
medical, and educational advancements. The ancient Egyptian s advancements in
agriculture is one of the driving forces that lead to the success of their empire. The
Egyptian civilization came together because of the need for fertile soil and a
constant supply of water. Although the Nile was a constant supply of water, the
Egyptians still needed to find a way to bring the water to their crops. Murray shows
the reason why irrigation was needed, In Egypt, 6000 years ago, when the latest rainy
interlude began to wane, neolithic tribesmen from both sides flocked into the Nile

London, the world was dictated by fate, from the things the people did, to the
choices the people made. And while this is marginally represented in Shakesphere s
Romeo and Juliet, there is still a rash character who acts as a guide to lead Romeo
and Juliet to their graves. Friar Lawrence is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and
Juliet through rushing in to action and rash judgments. By rushing into action, Friar
Lawrence causes the untimely deaths of Romeo and Juliet. When attempting to send

Birth Defects Discrimination
The stigma and discrimination of living with severe birth defects
Birth defects are health problems that occurs when a baby is developing in uterus
(in the womb) of an individual (Healthline Editorial Team, 2017). This defect may
be caused by genetic disorders, problems with chromosomes, or environmental
factors; disorders such as mandibulo facial dysostosis, cleft palate and spina bifida.
The lives of people with severe birth defects conditions are often contributed by
stigma as well as discrimination. Stigma is a major cause of discrimination which
leads to rejections, being scorned and gossip at; isolated socially, bullied; and even
labelled. The book, Palacio, R.J Wonder, 2012 demonstrated the story of a boy
named August or Auggie Pullman, a ten year old boy living in Manhattan who was
born with severe birth defects (mandibulo facial dysostosis and a cleft palate)
which left him severely disfigured. It was difficult for him to make friends. He lives
with his parents, his older sister Via; and his dog Daisy. August was homeschooled
up until the fifth grade but his parents decided it was time for him attend a real
school. They enrolled him in Beecher Prep, a neighborhood private school. There
August (Auggie) was faced with many obstacles during the school year because of his
appearance. He dealt with many stigma and discrimination from both students and
parents.

Characteristics Of A Modern Day Hero
A doctor, a father, and, most importantly, a hero. Someone I would consider a
modern day hero is Derek Shephard, from the TV show GreyВґs Anatomy . A hero is
someone who is able to help others without any interest that would benefit him/her
behind his actions Derek is a perfect example of a modern day hero. He is selfless and
works as a doctor with the main goal of helping others. Right before a surgery he
says to everyone in the OR: Today is a beautiful day to save lives. Derek is worthy of
the title of a modern day hero because of all his good and selfless actions towards
the others. What is a modern day hero exactly? In order to understand a modern day
hero, think about the characteristics of a classical and epic hero. A classical heroes...

As I said before, he is a person you can bump into easily in your life. He takes care
of his family and takes care of other people too in his job as a doctor. Chief of
neurosurgery at Seattle Grace Hospital/ Grey + Sloan Memorial Hospital, Derek
has to be brave and smart to look after every patient he has. Braveness and
intelligence are characteristics he has that match the ones classical and epic
heroes have. Even though his challenges are not fighting monsters, he has some
pretty hard challenges like saving a woman from a big aneurism in her brain, and
the only powers he has are his skills with a scalpel in hand. Derek does not fit
perfectly the Hero s Journey idea, but he does match it in some aspects. For
example, during his last episode, Derek faces one of his major trials when he
saves over three people on the side of an empty highway after these three people
suffered a car accident. However, right after that, crisis comes and he is hit by the
ambulance he called to take the people he saved, from the highway to a hospital.
Derek faces death as a consequence, however he does not come back to life, because
he is not a classical hero with superhuman characteristics, but a simple

Actus Reus Of Murder Essay
Introduction In this problem question, I will consider David s criminal liability for
murder. I will also consider whether Dr Hapless had committed the actus reus of
murder. David In order for David to be criminally liable for murder, it must be
shown that he had committed both the actus reus and the mens rea for murder. The
first element to look at is the actus reus of murder. The actus reus, literally wrongful
act , of murder is the unlawful killing of another person in the Queen s peace. There
are four requirements that must be fulfilled in order to consider David s actions the
actus reus of murder. Firstly, the defendant must have killed unlawfully; he must not
be able to rely on the defense of self defense[1]; secondly, it must be shown that the
defendant caused the death of the victim, or at least accelerated the victim s death by
more than a negligible amount; thirdly, the victim must be alive, which excludes
fetuses and people that are already dead; fourthly, the killing was not of enemy aliens
during war and under battle conditions. David commits two actions towards Victor
that could potentially be considered the actus reus of murder. Firstly, he charges head

The test for factual ( but for ) causation requires a jury to consider whether, but for
the defendant s unlawful actions, the harm would have occurred at the same time
and in the same way that it did[7]. The requirement for legal causation is that the act
was an operating and substantial cause of the result. It is important to note that there
may be several different operating and substantial causes of the result, so more than
one person can be responsible for the result[8]. Legal causation must be established
in order to fulfill one of the requirements of the actus reus of murder. Beyond this,
the defendant s actions would also have to be unlawful, directed towards a living
person, and occur in the Queen s
Adverse Effect Of Alcohol Consumption
The Adverse Effect of Alcohol Consumption
In Whiting S. Albert s article Alcohol Use Is Harmful he stated that alcohol is a
chemical that contains hydrogen and carbon. Whiting stated further that the active
ingredient of alcohol is ethyl alcohol, which is also known as ethanol. Alcohol is one
of the few things that human being consume that do not need digestion. Alcohol
appears the bloodstream immediately, thus, its intoxicating effects are felt instantly
(1). High levels of mortality, morbidity, and social malaise are associated with
abuse of alcohol, and increasing numbers of women and youth are abusing alcohol
(Ferreira and Darryn 1). Alcohol slows down the function of all living cells,
especially those in the brain (Whiting 1), which causes thinking to be impaired.
Alcohol is probably the most used drug worldwide. Three in ten adults 18 years of
age and over have had alcoholism and/or engaged in alcohol abuse at some point in
their lives ... ( Impact of Alcoholism 1). According to Centers for Disease Control and

Excessive drinking includes binge drinking, heavy drinking, and any drinking by
pregnant women or people younger than age 21. Binge drinking, the most
common form of excessive drinking, is defined as consuming: for women, 4 or more

The Was A Man With His Own Ideas
Thomas Paine was a man with his own ideas. He was a strong supporter of the
French Revolution. Paine Believes human rights are given by nature. Rights cannot
be given by a government because that implies that human rights are legally
allowed to be taken away from someone, thus making rights a privilege. He
believes that the purpose of a government is to protect the individual and his/her
inalienable rights that they carry. He claims that an illegitimate way of government
is a monarchy and an aristocracy. Paine highly disliked the systems of a monarchy
he called it a silly, contemptible thing . He states the first kings were a sort of

The people are not allowed to meddle with creating and fixing laws. The life of a
monarchy government is an expensive life. Thus requires the king to tax his
people. When the monarch is oppressive this is when the people have no voice.
Any demonstration or outcry by the people will get shut down quickly. They can
stay in power for decades only death can stop a monarch. If the monarch is a tyrant
like leader the people must endure these hardships for as long as that monarch is
alive. Monarchs successors can sometimes be not the brightest individuals. They
might not possess the actual knowledge to functionally run a country. Not one
person can run a country. The old style of monarchies and governments did not
produce order. Most of what they produced were wars and taxes on the people.
Depending on the monarch they may be lenient or they might be controlling in the
rights and laws for the people. This infringes on the natural rights and laws people
are granted with. A monarch could take away the laws and rights that we are born
with a simple word uttered by him. Rights and laws given by nature to all humans
could be taken away in a split second by this monarch. Paine later compares the two
style of governments, a monarchy and a republic where he writes that a monarchy Is
extremely less valuable than a republic. Paine later describes that new republican
style of governments like those in America and France are much more beneficial to a
Process Essay On Wakeboarding
Most people who want to try out wakeboarding will have had some experience with
water sport in general. They know the speed and adrenaline of speeding across the
water while holding on to the back of a speed boat. Although, there might be a rare
person who doesn t have experience, but after seeing a wakeboarder, it awakens their
curiosity.
The wakeboarder is strapped to the board with bindings much like a skiier on a
mountain places their feet into bindings. They hold onto a rope and are pulled behind
the speedboat. They do spins, turns and flips using the wake behind the boat as a
water ramp. The sport has been around since the 1980s, but officially became an
event when sports organizers started staging televised events on ESPN.

There are also board tips to worry about when purchasing your first wakeboard. If
you are familiar with other board sports, you ll know that there are single and twin
tip boards. Ones with a single tip have a front that is tapered but a back that is
square. This doesn t allow for flips or turns where the rider can skim the water
backwards.
While beginner s boards are normally cheaper than those for advanced riders, you
might want to consider a short board with twin tips if you plan on learning to
perform tricks. On the other hand, if you don t have any knowledge of boards at all,
stick with a beginner board while you re learning to stay on top of the water.
What Influences Your Choice of Wakeboard?
Once you ve decided on the tips and length of board, you re not done making
decisions. The length isn t focused on short or long alone. There are degrees of
length to consider. You ll need to decide on the board s rocker, the materials and fins
as well as other factors.
Board Length
The length of the board is influenced by the weight of the rider and their riding style.
A rider who weighs under 150 pounds will need to choose a short length under 134
The Anniversary Of World War II
Throughout World War II, many atrocities and acts of inhumane treatment was felt
throughout East Asia. Nations like China and Korea had felt the bitter sting of
Imperial Japanese rule on many occasions throughout the war. Ranging from forced
labor, massacres, and attempts to systematically wipe out national identities. The
article (Upcoming Abe speeches seen as rehearsal for WWII anniversary statement,
The Japan Times) talked of a possible outcome of how Prime Minister Abe
presented his speeches for the 70th anniversary of World War II. It further elaborated
on how modern day China and Koreawere still waiting for a proper apology from
Abe s government for its past wartime transgressions. Even in the modern era, the
dramatic events of World War II have had detrimental effects on East Asian
diplomatic relations, ideals of governance and outlook on western society to this very
day.
When Japan had Korea under colonial rule, many of its citizens were forced to work
in harsh conditions in efforts to mine gold. A lot of this back breaking work in the
mines was not completed with typical machinery. The majority of the work was
accomplished through the use of pickaxes and vast amounts of manual labor. People
who participated in the mining operations were not volunteers. Although the Korean
workers were paid, the amount was not the same as their Japanese counterparts who
oversaw the mining. Any materials that were dug up were used to fuel the factories

The Heroin Epidemic s Impact On The Nation
Current Solutions The heroin epidemic s impact on this nation has demanded action
to be taken. Currently, the United States is placing an emphasis on stopping doctors
from unnecessarily prescribing opiates such as Vicodin, Percocet, and OxyContin to
patients because it often leads to heroin addiction. Furthermore, the country is
beginning to focus its efforts on harm reduction, which is a set of practical strategies
and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with [heroin] use
(SouthComm Business Media LLC, 2015, para 12). One form of harm reduction
is giving users clean needles at no cost. Offering help to addicts when they come
for free needles will increase their chances of recovery, and clean needles prevent
the spread of deadly diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis C. SouthComm Business
Media LLC (2015) further notes, ...it costs only a dime for a needle versus
$90,000 for three months of hepatitis c treatments (para 14). Another form of harm
reduction being used to combat heroin is the use of Naloxone, which reverses the
effects of an overdose. Many police officers, medical personnel, family members of
heroin addicts, and heroin addicts themselves carry Naloxone with them in case of
an overdose. Finally, Suboxone treatment is considered as one of the more effective
ways to reduce harm. Suboxone is a drug that blocks the user from getting high and
makes it to where they do not crave the drug (SouthComm Business Media LLC,
2015, para 24). Stopping the
Imbalance Of Bullying
Bullying is a problem that is on the rise in society; however, many individuals have a
distorted view of what bullying entails. Usually when someone thinks of bullying,
they assume that it is a standard part of a child s life. This view, on the contrary, is
erroneous. Bullying is actually abnormal behavior, many times, leaving victims with
a dismantled self identity. Since some people do not understand the consequences of
bullying, the actions of the bully often go unnoticed and are perceived as kids being
kids . The issue of bullying goes deeper than that nevertheless. Despite the
erroneous views that many individuals hold towards bullying, it is still a distortion
of normal behavior in children. There are many definitions that adequately define
bullying; however, a simple definition is given by Kas Dekker, Bullying is defined
as a person being repeatedly exposed to negative actions on the part of one or more
other persons and has difficulty defending him or herself. (Dekker, 2013 pg 228) In
this quote, Dekker is describing a power imbalance between the bully and the
victim. In a power imbalance, the bully misuses their skills whether strength, verbal,
gestural, or relational in order to either acquire their yearnings, or put another
individual down. According to Ken Rigby, Verbal bullying is the most common
form of bullying, it involves talking down to a person by either insulting them or
cruel sarcasm. (Rigby, 2003 pg 10) In this form of bullying, the bully is

When many think of the times of immigration, they tend to recall the Irish
Immigration and with it comes the potato famine of the 1840s however, they forget
that immigrants from the Emerald Isle also poured into America during the late

The city life gave the Irish a chance to continue to stay close to their families and
communities, a chance to help one another out. This strong sense of belonging is
evident in all Irish communities; the upper class would only try to help their own
by giving them jobs or housing. The Irish did not only look to the streets for
sanctuary, but also looked to a higher power. The most important community was
that of the local church. For many, social events at the churches, such as dances and
mixers, were a way for the Irish to unwind and relax. The churches and communities
helped the families of the Irish grow and provided a backbone for the next hundred
years.
The improving times were not just a change for American, but also for the Irish. The
improvement of the economic status of the Irish Americans helped boost family lift
and esprit. Most Irish American families when first arriving in America had little or
no money, thus forcing them to settle in the urban centers of the Northeast. Within
the cities, families were close and revolved around the church, where they practiced
catholic views and preaching against contraception; therefore, many Irish Catholics
had very large families. Consequently, the economic rise of the Irish immigrants
provided families with the money to feed and clothe their large families. In addition,
many Irish Americans could now afford to send their children to parish schools,
something many could not do while oppressed in

The Physiological Effects of Renovascular Hypertension...
Renovascular hypertension, also known as renal hypertension, is a condition in
which chronically elevated high blood pressure is caused by a narrowing of the
renal arteries. The renal arteries are the arteries that bring blood to the kidneys (9).
This blood is processed by which the kidneys filter the blood, removing some
substances and sometimes adding others. The kidneys also have several functions,
which can be negatively affected by renovascular hypertension. One function is the
regulation of water and ion balances within the body. In order to do so, the kidney is
also responsible for the removal of waste products and foreign chemicals from the
blood by excreting them in the form of urine. Another function of the kidneys is...

Concept 1: Renal Artery Stenosis as the Cause of Renovascular Hypertension
Renovascular hypertension is most commonly caused by prerenal factors, which
are conditions that result in a decrease in blood flow to the kidney, which is also
known as hypoperfusion. In many cases, the prerenal factor that causes
renovascular hypertension is renal artery stenosis. Renal artery stenosis is defined
as the narrowing of the renal artery that produces a decrease in blood flow into the
kidneys (3). Renal artery stenosis is most often caused by atherosclerosis (1).
Atherosclerosis occurs when there is a buildup of fatty substances within the walls
of the arteries, which is what causes the narrowing. The fatty substances, like
cholesterol and triglycerides, harden over time and become plaque, which increases
the resistance of the arteries by decreasing the circumference, but also by making
the arteries less elastic (5). When arteries are less elastic, they are unable to expand
and recoil properly, which causes stiffening. Factors that can lead to atherosclerosis
include a poor diet that is high in fat, physical inactivity, and cigarette smoking (1).
When the narrowing of the renal artery occurs, there is a decrease in blood flow
Recent Advancement Of Periodontal Treatment
Recent advancement in periodontal regeneration
Periodontology .
St. Moath Riad Saifi .
Introduction :
пѓ Regenerative periodontal treatment involves systems which are especially
intended to reestablish those parts of the tooth supporting structures which have been
lost because of periodontitis or gingival injury. The expression recovery is
characterized as a recreation of lost or harmed tissues in a manner that both the first
structures and their capacity are totally reestablished. Strategies went for
reestablishing lost periodontal tissues support the making of new connection,
including the development another periodontal tendon with its filaments embeddings
in recently framed cementum and alveolar bone.
пѓ Profound infra hard imperfections connected with periodontal pockets are the
great sign for periodontal regenerative treatment. Furthermore, distinctive degrees of
furcation association in molars and upper first premolars are a further sign for
regenerative methodologies as the furcation range stays hard to keep up through
instrumentation and oral cleanliness. A third gathering of signs for regenerative
periodontal treatment are confined gingival subsidences and root presentation since
they may bring about a noteworthy tasteful sympathy toward the patient. The
stripping of a root surface with resultant root affectability speaks to a further sign to
apply regenerative periodontal treatment keeping in mind the end goal to accomplish

Powerful Enlightened Depots
Enlightened despotism is defined as a form of government in the 18th century in
which absolute monarchs pursued legal, social, and educational reforms inspired by
the Enlightenment (The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica). The magnitude of the
philosophy movement known as the Enlightenment sent ripples throughout Western
society. The philosophers believed that in order to improve society they had to
enlighten the monarchs. The views of the Enlightenment did to find their way inside
the palaces of Europe s leaders; however, the monarchs retained their great power of
absolute rule. Among these enlightened despots of the age were Frederick the Great
of Prussia, Catherine the Great of Russia, and Joseph II of Austria. These leaders all
attempted to bring their respective countries into a new age. The basis of enlightened
despotismwas the idea of improving the lives of a country s citizens. This concept of
leadership during this time was ultimately a good idea, but it was not successfully
exercised to its fullest extent. From a young age, Frederick the Great took a great
liking to culture and literature. He was especially infatuated with the language and
lifestyle of the French. The French philosopher Voltairewas a friend to Frederick and
had a great influence on his Enlightenment ideals. He initially hid his love of the
Enlightenment during his reign, but later he began to realize how the philosophies of
the movement could actually advance and fortify his state. He
An Example Of Genus Deliberativum Essay
Out of the three genus causarum: genus deliberativum, genus indiciale, and genus
demonstrativum, I argue that Williamson s speech is an example of genus
deliberativum. According to Roland Barthes rhetorical tree, there are six attributes
assigned to the oratorical genres: audience, end, subject, time, reasoning,
commonplaces. For the deliberative genre, the audienceis members of an assembly,
the end is to persuade/dissuade, the subject is useful/harmful, the time is future, the
reasoning is exempla, and the commonplaces is possible/impossible (Barthes 72).
In this case, Williamson s goal was to persuade the members of New Zealand s
parliament, or member of an assembly, to accept the outcome of marriage equality
bill (especially those who oppose it.) In terms of time, Williamson alluded to the fact
that the bill had already passed. However, he used the future tense to describe the
projected effects of this bill. He presented his argument to this body of deciders and
argued that the bill was a reasonable and useful piece of legislation that was not
going to harm anyone, but would improve the lives of the LGBTQ community. By
using examples in his speech to express various concerns about the bill, he was able
to challenge the reasonableness of the arguments against the bill and therefore make
his point clear that the world will carry on.

application and acceptance into the Graduate School of Public Affairs at CU Denver.
A year later, in 2009, I was still a credential processor, and still without a master s
degree. Within the first semester of graduate school, it became apparent that public
administration wasn t of any interest to me. Therefore, I decided not to continue in
the program. Perhaps the outcome could have been a bit different if I had put forth
more effort into researching the intricacies of a public administration degree, or if I
d known what I truly wanted to be when I grew up. However, as the saying goes,
when one door closes, another one opens. This is exactly what happened.
In April 2014, the opportunity to take on a leadership role in my job presented itself
and I jumped in head first. As
Poem With No Surprise Figurative Language
This poem is very bitter sweet with an unsympathetic tone and a harsh theme with
no whining about death. The theme of the poem is that life happens and death
comes as no surprise and that s why everything goes on as if nothing happened
because the death of that flower was expected when the harsh winter came in like
it does every year... with no surprise . Ironically, Dickinson stated an approving
God, even though a flower was just killed and that s because God would expect
nothing less, how would anybody fulfill their life on earth if they stayed on it
forever so he was ok that nature took its course. Also, she uses figurative language to
describe the bad guy of the poem (the frost) as the blond assassin to create that

Cultural Contributions Of Healer s Association To Bram
Stoker
The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Transylvania is it s association
to Bram Stokers, Dracula, however for such a small area of land, its at times cloudy
history with it blends the beautiful Carpathian landscape creating a feeling of
enchantment when gazing up pictures of Transylvania. Besides for my grandparents
being born in Transylvania, I have always been intrigued by its rough yet resilient
history. Its cultural history consists of multiple heritages due to its geographic
location through time. Its important to remember that for centuries, despite being a
small area, the area of Transylvania has always been extremely divers. From the
beginning of written history up until post WWII, Transylvania s people have

  • 2. The Naked Citadel Summary Altering Women The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex (US Constitution 19th Amendment). These were the few words that thousands of women fought for. From the beginning of mankind women have been treated unequally from men. Women have had to fight to win the same rights as the men who were born with them. As women progressed gaining equal rights as men, society also became more advanced changing its guidelines of how women should act. Leslie Bell in her story, Selections from Hard to Get: Twenty Something Women and the Paradox of Sexual Freedom, discusses how women nowadays have to adhere and alter their personalities to meet society s new norms. Often women who try to change themselves experience splitting . Bell gives examples of women, her patients, who have dealt with splitting and talks about how they changed themselves to fit into society. Some ideas from Bell s story can be related to Susan Faludis story, The Naked Citadel. The Citadel is an all boys military school, but this all changes when Shannon Faulkner, a girl, is allowed to attend it. Since no other girl has attended The Citadel, Shannon does not know how to adjust and act in the new atmosphere. Women, like Bell s patients and Shannon, have tried to changed themselves to fit into the new society. These women did not want to be outcasts, so they had to adjust to the new world. Men have had it easier

  • 4. 7 Minutes Of Terror Essay Sometimes when we look at it, it looks crazy, said Adam Steltzner. Adam is an engineer who works for NASA, a part of the United States government that explores space. Adam was talking about landing something on Mars. It is the result of reasoned engineering thought. But it still looks crazy. Adam and some of the people he works with made a video called Seven Minutes of Terror about a Mars landing. In the video, they introduced people around the world to one of the most daring and creative achievements of engineering ever completed. That achievement was the pinpoint landing of Curiosity on Mars. Curiosity is a machine called a rover, and it was built to explore the surface of Mars. The seven minutes described in Adam s video refer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, engineers came up with a maneuver that would allow the craft carrying Curiosity to turn quickly. Then, rockets would turn on and allow Curiosity to make a vertical landing. Switching from a parachute to a controlled rocket descent could have gone wrong at any time. Still, even getting the descent right was not enough to succeed. Once the parachute was cut free, the force from the rockets could raise so much dust that the dust itself could damage the rover. Always thinking ahead, the engineers came up with a solution. They created a device to complete the last step of the landing. The device was called a sky crane. When the sky crane was close to Mars s surface, it used a set of cables to lower Curiosity onto the ground. At last Curiosity landed, going from 13,000 miles per hour to zero in just seven minutes. The capsule that had been carrying Curiosity still had all its rockets firing. It blasted back into the sky and landed somewhere else on the planet. The landing was a success. The Ongoing Mission NASA says that the MSL mission is part of a long term plan. This plan uses robots to explore Mars. The most popular question is whether there ever was life on Mars. Looking for the answer to that question is just one piece of a bigger

  • 6. Magna Carta Historical Documents DSPA There was many documents that influenced the writing of the constitution. Some people may say we stole parts from them, but I believe we borrowed them and made them better. We made them better because they were now part of the United States of America. From the Magna Carta to the Articles of Confederation, writings all around the world influenced the US constitution. Even though we copyrighted some of the constitution it is still one of the most ingenious writings in the world. The first document to influence the constitution was the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta declared everyone was subject to law, even the king. It also said that no one could be put through cruel or unusual punishment. Another thing it said was the everyone had the right to a fair trial and justice. Magna Carta means great charter in latin. It also included the right to speedy trial. The Magna Carta influenced many parts of the constitution. The first thing it influenced was that the king and government were bound to the same laws as the citizens. This means that the king and the government weren t above the law, just like the president and US government. Another thing that is similar is the right to a fair and speedy trial just like in the bill of rights. The last area that is similar is that no one could be put through cruel and unusual punishment. That is just one of many historical documents that influenced the constitution. The second historical document was the Mayflower Compact. The

During the procedure, which lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes, a patient lies on his back on an exam table with his legs spread. A technician will then apply a warm, clear gel to his scrotum to help the ultrasound transducer move smoothly over his skin. The gel also helps conduct the sound waves through the patient s body. At this point, the technician will gently press the transducer against the scrotum and move it back and forth at various angles. The patient may feel pressure as this is done, but he should feel no pain. As the technician moves the transducer, it produces sonogram waves that bounce off the structures inside the scrotum, including the testicles, blood vessels and any abnormal tissues. These waves are then sent to a computer, which processes the information into detailed images. After the procedure is over, the patient will be able to resume normal
  • 11. Food In Thai Food For many people in Thailand today, food has become a very important aspect of any holiday celebration and special occasions. In the American western cuisine today, a regular restaurant quality meal consists of appetizers, followed by the main course, and ends with a serving of dessert, where each person would order his or her own food. In Thailand it s the complete opposite to the American cuisine where they would never have any structure in their meals like beginning with appetizers and ending with dessert. In Thai cuisinethe number of dishes is based on the number of people there are around the table, so for example if there are ten people, then ten dishes would be order. One interesting aspect about Thai cuisine is that everyone sitting around the table would equally share their food, so that no one would get stuck with eating the same plate of food, everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy the unique flavors of all the different dishes. The main reason that the Thais share their food is because they believe that it is bad luck for them to eat alone and they see that each meal is a big celebration of social and friendly interactions. When the Thais finished eating all of their food, they would pack up all of the leftover foods from the meal and store it in the refrigerator to eat the next day. The people of Thailand have a strong belief that throwing away food is a very sinful thing to do since it will dishonor and anger the Thai god causing famine and starvation among

Analysis Of Under The Influence By Scott Russell Sanders In Under the Influence by Scott Russell Sanders, an American novelist, the author explains the struggles he had to go through while dealing with his alcoholic father. Alcoholism has slowly transformed his father into a completely different person, and even a different creature at times. Every time his father would get drunk, Sanders and his familyfelt as if he was losing a piece of his dad. The family felt ashamed of the disease that had consumed their father and this developed where telling other people was impossible, making their father s alcoholism a secret that the family kept hidden and closed away from the rest of the world. Sanders confesses the problems he and his family had to go through throughout the many years that alcoholism had consumed his father. Not only did the alcohol change his father, but it changed the way their family lived. Sanders family, like any family, should be tied together with an infinite rope, yet alcoholism came as a saw into the family, tearing it apart. Sanders tries explaining this problem when asking, Why our father, so playful and competent and kind when sober, would choose to ruin himself and punish his family, we could not fathom (Sanders 91). Although Sanders father sober, like many others, was playful and kind , alcoholism transformed him into a different and disastrous person. His family felt punished, as the alcohol was coming between the father and the rest of the family. However, not only was his father slipping away from the family, he was turning into creature different than everyone else. This is clear in Sanders essay as he wakes with a grunt , snarls back and growls when communicating with his wife (Sanders 87). Sanders specifically uses these savage words to fully express the way his father was like after drinking. The text infers that Sanders father was a different creature because of the inhumane noises coming from him. These noises, along with the feeling of falling apart, are factors proving the negative effect of alcoholism. Sanders family is not alone with this. Whenever my father would smoke, it was as if the smoke being blown out of his mouth was a piece of him leaving. This affected my family as we felt as if we didn t recognize the man that had stepped back inside from smoking his cigarette. Sanders realizes that as alcoholism consumes a person, that person will transform into an indistinguishable character, while also tearing apart a

Chlamydia Pneumoniae And Cardiovascular Diseases Chlamydia Pneumoniae and Cardiovascular diseases By: Karishma Shroff Direct study assignment Abstract Introduction Chlamydia Pneumoniae comes from a distinct Chlamydia species. This type of infection is usually associated with atherosclerotic vascular disease mainly. It is an obligate intracellular bacterium that will infect humans and is the major leading cause of pneumonia. The bacteria, for it to reproduce, must infect other cells which is what makes it an obligate intracellular pathogen. C. Pneumoniae is a gram negative bacterium which will undergo several transitions during its life cycles. This bacterium is an elementary body (EB) meaning that it is resistant to environmental stresses and can survive outside its host for a long amount of time but it s not a biologically active pathogen. The way this EB works is that, it will travel from the lung of an infected person to the lungs of the uninfected person in small droplets and will then become responsible for the infection. The EB then goes through the process of phagocytosis and becomes the reticulate body (RB); it then can start its replication process within the endosome. It then will convert itself back to EB and infect the cells in the lungs of the host killing the host cell in the process. This infections life cycle is split up between the EB, which can infect new hosts but it s not able to replicate, and the RB, which is replicable but it is not able to infect other cells to cause the new

It is believed to have emerged around 5,500 years ago, although some scholars have estimated an even earlier date. During the predynastic period the Egyptians were not united, but as the Sahara desert expanded many people began moving their settlements around the Nile River. These settlements started coming together to form towns. As these towns progressed they developed many new ideas to help the society run smoother. However the total unification and start of the ancient Egyptian civilization did not happen, until Hierakonpolis expanded and conquered Naqada. The ancient Egyptian civilization was now created. Since this civilization was one of the first in the world, there was no structure to start with. In order to function as a thriving civilization, the Egyptians had to accomplish agricultural, architectural, medical, and educational advancements. The ancient Egyptian s advancements in agriculture is one of the driving forces that lead to the success of their empire. The Egyptian civilization came together because of the need for fertile soil and a constant supply of water. Although the Nile was a constant supply of water, the Egyptians still needed to find a way to bring the water to their crops. SouthComm Business Media LLC (2015) further notes, ...it costs only a dime for a needle versus $90,000 for three months of hepatitis c treatments (para 14). Another form of harm reduction being used to combat heroin is the use of Naloxone, which reverses the effects of an overdose. Many police officers, medical personnel, family members of heroin addicts, and heroin addicts themselves carry Naloxone with them in case of an overdose. Finally, Suboxone treatment is considered as one of the more effective ways to reduce harm. Suboxone is a drug that blocks the user from getting high and makes it to where they do not crave the drug (SouthComm Business Media LLC, 2015, para 24). Stopping the
  • 36. Imbalance Of Bullying Bullying is a problem that is on the rise in society; however, many individuals have a distorted view of what bullying entails. Usually when someone thinks of bullying, they assume that it is a standard part of a child s life. This view, on the contrary, is erroneous. Bullying is actually abnormal behavior, many times, leaving victims with a dismantled self identity. Since some people do not understand the consequences of bullying, the actions of the bully often go unnoticed and are perceived as kids being kids . The issue of bullying goes deeper than that nevertheless. Despite the erroneous views that many individuals hold towards bullying, it is still a distortion of normal behavior in children. There are many definitions that adequately define bullying; however, a simple definition is given by Kas Dekker, Bullying is defined as a person being repeatedly exposed to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons and has difficulty defending him or herself. (Dekker, 2013 pg 228) In this quote, Dekker is describing a power imbalance between the bully and the victim. In a power imbalance, the bully misuses their skills whether strength, verbal, gestural, or relational in order to either acquire their yearnings, or put another individual down. According to Ken Rigby, Verbal bullying is the most common form of bullying, it involves talking down to a person by either insulting them or cruel sarcasm. (Rigby, 2003 pg 10) In this form of bullying, the bully is

The city life gave the Irish a chance to continue to stay close to their families and communities, a chance to help one another out. This strong sense of belonging is evident in all Irish communities; the upper class would only try to help their own by giving them jobs or housing. The Irish did not only look to the streets for sanctuary, but also looked to a higher power. The most important community was that of the local church. For many, social events at the churches, such as dances and mixers, were a way for the Irish to unwind and relax. The churches and communities helped the families of the Irish grow and provided a backbone for the next hundred years. The improving times were not just a change for American, but also for the Irish. The improvement of the economic status of the Irish Americans helped boost family lift and esprit. Most Irish American families when first arriving in America had little or no money, thus forcing them to settle in the urban centers of the Northeast. Within the cities, families were close and revolved around the church, where they practiced catholic views and preaching against contraception; therefore, many Irish Catholics had very large families. Consequently, the economic rise of the Irish immigrants provided families with the money to feed and clothe their large families. In addition, many Irish Americans could now afford to send their children to parish schools, something many could not do while oppressed in

  • 40. The Physiological Effects of Renovascular Hypertension... Renovascular hypertension, also known as renal hypertension, is a condition in which chronically elevated high blood pressure is caused by a narrowing of the renal arteries. The renal arteries are the arteries that bring blood to the kidneys (9). This blood is processed by which the kidneys filter the blood, removing some substances and sometimes adding others. The kidneys also have several functions, which can be negatively affected by renovascular hypertension. One function is the regulation of water and ion balances within the body. In order to do so, the kidney is also responsible for the removal of waste products and foreign chemicals from the blood by excreting them in the form of urine. Another function of the kidneys is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Concept 1: Renal Artery Stenosis as the Cause of Renovascular Hypertension Renovascular hypertension is most commonly caused by prerenal factors, which are conditions that result in a decrease in blood flow to the kidney, which is also known as hypoperfusion. In many cases, the prerenal factor that causes renovascular hypertension is renal artery stenosis. Renal artery stenosis is defined as the narrowing of the renal artery that produces a decrease in blood flow into the kidneys (3). Renal artery stenosis is most often caused by atherosclerosis (1). Atherosclerosis occurs when there is a buildup of fatty substances within the walls of the arteries, which is what causes the narrowing. The fatty substances, like cholesterol and triglycerides, harden over time and become plaque, which increases the resistance of the arteries by decreasing the circumference, but also by making the arteries less elastic (5). When arteries are less elastic, they are unable to expand and recoil properly, which causes stiffening. Factors that can lead to atherosclerosis include a poor diet that is high in fat, physical inactivity, and cigarette smoking (1). When the narrowing of the renal artery occurs, there is a decrease in blood flow

  • 42. Powerful Enlightened Depots Enlightened despotism is defined as a form of government in the 18th century in which absolute monarchs pursued legal, social, and educational reforms inspired by the Enlightenment (The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica). The magnitude of the philosophy movement known as the Enlightenment sent ripples throughout Western society. The philosophers believed that in order to improve society they had to enlighten the monarchs. The views of the Enlightenment did to find their way inside the palaces of Europe s leaders; however, the monarchs retained their great power of absolute rule. Among these enlightened despots of the age were Frederick the Great of Prussia, Catherine the Great of Russia, and Joseph II of Austria. These leaders all attempted to bring their respective countries into a new age. The basis of enlightened despotismwas the idea of improving the lives of a country s citizens. This concept of leadership during this time was ultimately a good idea, but it was not successfully exercised to its fullest extent. From a young age, Frederick the Great took a great liking to culture and literature. He was especially infatuated with the language and lifestyle of the French. The French philosopher Voltairewas a friend to Frederick and had a great influence on his Enlightenment ideals. He initially hid his love of the Enlightenment during his reign, but later he began to realize how the philosophies of the movement could actually advance and fortify his state. He
  • 43. An Example Of Genus Deliberativum Essay Out of the three genus causarum: genus deliberativum, genus indiciale, and genus demonstrativum, I argue that Williamson s speech is an example of genus deliberativum. According to Roland Barthes rhetorical tree, there are six attributes assigned to the oratorical genres: audience, end, subject, time, reasoning, commonplaces. For the deliberative genre, the audienceis members of an assembly, the end is to persuade/dissuade, the subject is useful/harmful, the time is future, the reasoning is exempla, and the commonplaces is possible/impossible (Barthes 72). In this case, Williamson s goal was to persuade the members of New Zealand s parliament, or member of an assembly, to accept the outcome of marriage equality bill (especially those who oppose it.) In terms of time, Williamson alluded to the fact that the bill had already passed. However, he used the future tense to describe the projected effects of this bill. He presented his argument to this body of deciders and argued that the bill was a reasonable and useful piece of legislation that was not going to harm anyone, but would improve the lives of the LGBTQ community. By using examples in his speech to express various concerns about the bill, he was able to challenge the reasonableness of the arguments against the bill and therefore make his point clear that the world will carry on. 2. I remained a Credential Processor for five years. It was a job, but it didn t feel like a career. I was comfortable, but I knew that I wanted more. I didn t know exactly what I wanted more of, but I decided that going back to school would be a helpful way of figuring that out. The decision to go back to school resulted in my application and acceptance into the Graduate School of Public Affairs at CU Denver. A year later, in 2009, I was still a credential processor, and still without a master s degree. Within the first semester of graduate school, it became apparent that public administration wasn t of any interest to me. Therefore, I decided not to continue in the program. However, as the saying goes, when one door closes, another one opens. This is exactly what happened. In April 2014, the opportunity to take on a leadership role in my job presented itself and I jumped in head first. As

The theme of the poem is that life happens and death comes as no surprise and that s why everything goes on as if nothing happened because the death of that flower was expected when the harsh winter came in like it does every year... with no surprise . Ironically, Dickinson stated an approving God, even though a flower was just killed and that s because God would expect nothing less, how would anybody fulfill their life on earth if they stayed on it forever so he was ok that nature took its course.
