In the present paper, a 4-bit flash analog to digital converter for low power SoC application is presented. CMOS inverter has been used as a comparator and by adjusting the ratio of channel width and length, the switching threshold of the CMOS inverter is varied to detect the input analog signal. The simulation results show that this proposed 4-bit flash ADC consumes about 12.4 mW at 200M sample/s with 3.3V supply voltage in TSMC 0.35 µm process. Compared with the traditional flash ADC, this proposed method can reduce about 78% in power consumption.

Performance analysis of High Speed ADC using SR F/F

This work is about the analysis of dead time
variation on switching losses in a Zero Voltage Switching
(ZVS) synchronous buck converter (SBC) circuit. In high
frequency converter circuits, switching losses are
commonly linked with high and low side switches of SBC
circuit. They are activated externally by the gate driver
circuit. The duty ratio, dead time and resonant inductor
are the parameters that affect the efficiency of the circuit.
These variables can be adjusted for the optimization
purposes. The study primarily focuses on varying the
settings of input pulses of the MOSFETs in the resonant
gate driver circuit which consequently affects the
performance of the ZVS synchronous buck converter
circuit. Using the predetermined inductor of 9 nH, the
frequency is maintained at 1 MHz for each cycle
transition. The switching loss graph is obtained and
switching losses for both S1 and S2 are calculated and
compared to the findings from previous work. It has
shown a decrease in losses by 13.8 % in S1. A dead time of
15 ns has been determined to be optimized value in the
SBC design.

These comparators can maximize speed and power efficiency. The delay and power dissipation of dynamic comparators are analyzed in this paper. The delays and tradeoff can be explored. The circuit of a conventional double tail comparator in this analysis is modified for fast operation even in different supply voltages. By using power gating technique and adding few transistors, the positive feedback during the regeneration is strengthened in the proposed comparator structure. The delay time can be reduced by providing positive feedback instead of adding few transistors. The analysis results are going to be confirmed on the basis of 0.25-µm CMOS technology. The power consumption and delay time can be significantly reduced based on this analysis. All the simulation are made using TANNER TOOLS, Generic 250nm. The schematic are drawn in the T-SPICE schematic editor.

Abstract— The comparator is a combinational logic circuit that plays an important role in the design of analog to digital converter. One of its most important properties is its input referred offset. When mismatches are present in a dynamic comparator, due to internal positive feedback and transient response, it is always challenging to analytically predict the input-referred random offset voltages since the operating points of transistors are time varying. To overcome the offset effect a novel time-domain bulk-tuned offset cancellation method is applied to a low power dynamic comparator. Using this comparator in analog to digital converter it does not increase the power consumption, but at the same time the delay is reduced and the speed is increased. The comparator is designed using the 250-nm CMOS technology in mentor graphics tool. Operating at a supply voltage of 5v and clock frequency 100MHZ, the comparator together with the offset cancellation circuitry dissipates 335.49nW of power and dissipates 1.027uW of power for comparator without offset cancellation circuit. The simulation result indicates that the offset cancellation circuitry consumes negligible power and it does not draw any static current. Using this high precision offset cancelled comparator in the analog to digital converter circuit the static power consumption is less and it is able to work under very low supply voltage.

In Analog to Digital Converter (ADC), high speed comparator influences the overall performance of ADC directly. This paper presents the high speed & low power design of a CMOS comparator. Schematic design of this comparator is fabricated in a 0.18μm UMC Technology with 1.8V power supply and simulated in cadence Virtuoso. Simulation results are presented and it shows that this design can work under high speed of 0.8108 GHz. The design has a low offset voltage, low power dissipation 108.0318μw. In addition we have verified present results with schematic view design and also compared these results with earlier reported work and got improvement in this reported work.

In Analog to Digital Converter (ADC), high speed comparator influences the overall performance of ADC directly. This paper presents the high speed & low power design of a CMOS comparator. Schematic design of this comparator is fabricated in a 0.18μm UMC Technology with 1.8V power supply and simulated in cadence Virtuoso. Simulation results are presented and it shows that this design can work under high speed of 0.8108 GHz. The design has a low offset voltage, low power dissipation 108.0318μw. In addition we have verified present results with schematic view design and also compared these results with earlier reported work and got improvement in this reported work.

This paper presents a detailed analysis of Wr@p technology (Web Ready Appliances Protocol, also known as Power Modulation), an ultra-low-cost powerline communication solution devoted to the electrical appliance market. Wr@p technology is aimed at adding communication capability to a household appliance without affecting its industrial cost, thus speeding up the diffusion of “smart” appliances interacting with the power distribution grid and contributing to the smart grid paradigm.
A Wr@p transceiver establishes a narrow-band powerline communication exploiting the “last meter”, i.e. the power supply cord between the appliance and the outlet, where a proxy device, the smart adapter (SA), flexibly deals with standard home networking solutions. At the appliance side, such an approach allows for (i) connectivity at negligible cost and, (ii) keeps hardware and software virtually independent from the actual home networking protocol (since different configurations of the smart adapter take care of it). In this work, after recalling the basics of Wr@p point-to-point communication, an extension to the multipoint-to-point scenario is introduced. Design of silicon implementations integrated into commercial microcontroller architectures are presented and the results of extensive test of fabricated devices under actual operating conditions are detailed. Moreover, we present a complete Wr@p development solution, featuring wireless networks integration.

It is with great pleasure that we extend to you an invitation to the 5th Power Grid Model Meet-up, scheduled for 6th June 2024. This event will adopt a hybrid format, allowing participants to join us either through an online Mircosoft Teams session or in person at TU/e located at Den Dolech 2, Eindhoven, Netherlands. The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
