2. CAPACITOR START INDUCTION MOTOR
INTRODUCTION:-
A Capacitor Start Motors is a single
phase Induction Motor that
employs a capacitor in the auxiliary
winding circuit to produce a greater
phase difference between the
current in the main and the
auxiliary windings. The name
capacitor starts itself shows that the
motor uses a capacitor for the
purpose of the starting.
3. START CAPACITOR
• Work only in the circuit while
motor is starting.
• Quickly brings the motor upto
operating speed.
• A switch or relay removes the
start capacitor and the start
winding from the circuit.
• High microfarad value-for a
greater phase shift providing
more torque.
4. Phasor Diagram:-
• Single phase supply current is
split into two phase.
• Displaced apart by 90 degree.
• Acts as a balanced two-phase
motor.
5. Characteristics of the Capacitor Start Motor:-
• High starting torque .
• High cost of motor.
• Motor an be reversed by
reversing the connection of one
of the winding.
6. RUN CAPACITOR
• Continuous duty-in the circuit at
all time.
• Works with the auxiliary or
phase winding to increase
torque and efficiency while
lowering the amps of the motor.
• Low microfarad value(5-15 mfd).
7. START & RUN CAPACITOR
• The start capacitor is in the
circuit only while the motor
start.
• The run capacitor is in the circuit
at all times.
8. APPLICATION
•Used in pumps and compressors.
•Used in the refrigerator and air conditioner compressors.
•They are also used for conveyors and machine tools.
