We study climate change to understand what is happening to Earth and how to stop it. Some changes already seen include more droughts, wilder weather, warmer oceans, and melting glaciers. Climate change is occurring because human activities like burning fossil fuels for transportation, electricity, and other uses have increased the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. CO2 is a greenhouse gas made up of two oxygen atoms and one carbon atom. Individual actions like using public transit, planting trees, and generating renewable energy can help reduce our carbon footprint and slow climate change.
