Each technological age has been marked by a shift in how the industrial platform enables companies to rethink their business processes and create wealth. In the talk I argue that we are limiting our view of what this next industrial/digital age can offer because of how we read, measure and through that perceive the world (how we cherry pick data). A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
1. CA task on Shakespeare and the English
Literary Heritage – Y10 May/June 2012
Explore the ways in which
Shakespeare presents one of the
relationships in ‘Richard III’ and
compare how Hardy presents one
of the relationships in ‘Tess’.
2. What are the significant
relationships in the play?
Who do you blame for Richards’s
downfall? Was it all his own fault? Think
about this as you learn more about the
character of Richard.
Which relationship in ‘Tess’ would provide and interesting
comparison? Support your answer with specific examples.
3. Remember…
When you come to produce the final piece
for this task, it will be easier for you to
structure your answer if you draw links
between the texts, taking an idea of how
the relationship is presented in ‘Richard III’
and then thinking about what the point of
comparison with ‘Tess’ would be. So be
thinking about this when points are made
about ‘Richard III’.
4. Also:
You are comparing a play with a novel and
will be watching different directors’ ideas
about how to present a performance of
Richard III
Think about the nature of dramatic
presentation compared to the creation of a
narrative voice
5. And:
For this task it is important to:
Engage with the writers’ ideas and attitudes,
making your own interpretations of the text
supported by textual detail
Analyse the language and structure of the texts
Explore links and comparisons between the texts
Comment on the social, cultural and historical
contexts of the texts (remember that you are
comparing an early 17th century play with a 19th
century novel)
6. One last thing before we begin:
Relax! Easy to say, harder
to do but try to enjoy this
most bloody and
entertaining play. It was the
popular entertainment of its
day, it was not intended to
be difficult or elitist. You
need to focus on what’s
important and not get
worked up about details or
individual words that you
don’t understand…
