This document provides instructions for a coursework task asking students to write a letter from the perspective of Stephen Wraysford to Jeanne Fourmentier after his escape from a tunnel at the end of a section of the novel Birdsong. The letter is to be approximately 1200 words and is due on December 4, 2013. Firebrace and his feelings for Jeanne. The letter should

3. • Spell every character’s name accurately
• Do not use exclamation marks and be careful
with rhetorical questions. Does Faulks use
these?
• sp – as it’s c/wk, there shouldn’t be a single
spelling error (be careful with Americanisms –
‘honor’)
• exp – expression
• h/p – homophone
• No abbreviations
• No colloquialisms
• No modern expressions
