From Mr Mark Sayer - Principal of BVIS Hanoi
Thông điệp từ thầy Mark Sayer - Hiệu trưởng trường Quốc tế BVIS Hà Nội
As you receive this newsletter this week, both the Head of
Secondary and I will be away in Ho Chi Minh City attending a
course on developing the skills required for school inspections.
Parents may remember that a number of the school leaders
within the group of schools attended Level 1 of this training in
May. This is now Level 2 and represents a continuing commit-
ment to excellence on your behalf and for your children as they
develop within the school. It is tough training, delivered by
PENTA, www.pentainternational.co.uk/home.php, following
the British School’s Overseas (BSO) rigorous standards. It is an
excellent way for us as a group to learn from each other in a
collaborative fashion and to gather the best and most current
ideas in school leadership. I am looking forward to it.
Also this week, I had the opportunity to meet with a charity
operating in Vietnam and a second meeting with a parent who is
extensively involved in community service and relief projects
both here and abroad. We continue our search for the most
suitable projects in our local area in which our children can be
personally involved as they share their lives, skills and interests
with those less fortunate than themselves. We are encouraging
the children to look inwards to understand themselves and then
to look outward to the needs of others. This does represent a
mind shift for all, but it is an important aspect of the education
ofthewholechildthatweoffer. Itdevelopsconfidence,empathy
and awareness of wider issues that in turn enrich themselves and
others. It will not be a quick process to find the right projects as
age of children, location, facilities and timing of involvement all
havetobeconsidered. Itcertainlyisanengagingprocessandone
that helps me to see the wealth of opportunity around us. As we
declareinourAideMemoire,weareencouragingourstudentsto
become citizens of the world but with a keen focus on Vietnam.
To think globally one has to start locally.
Encouragingly, the student council is also exploring ways in
which different charities can be supported. I am very heartened
bythat. Itisimportantthatthisisnotjustafundraisingexercise,
as important as fundraising is. Personal and active involvement
changes lives, and I have no doubt that our students, your
children, will rise magnificently to the occasion.
I wish you a very happy weekend.
