Thangka Painting Analysis
The artifact that I choose was a painting done during the nineteenth century in Tibet. The painting is
called Thangka, because that is the technique that the artist used to paint it. In the painting Sakyamuni
Buddha is blessing the souls in Buddhist Hell. Thangka paintings have numerous different uses. One
place they are used is in Buddhist temples for worship and meditation. In addition, they are also used
to serve as a record of different events. Furthermore Thangka painting is used during the 49th day
memorial service. Lastly, they can also be used as a decorative object in Buddhist shrines. Equally
important to the uses of the artifact is the culture and history of the painting, Tibet, and the nineteenth
century.
When this painting was created, the Qing Dynasty ruled China. Continuing from the previous dynasty,
which produced many great paintings and poetry, the Qing Dynasty continued to bring growth in the

A major religion of Tibet is called Tibetan Buddhism. The religion is reflected in the Thangka

created, Tibet was considered a feudal dependency under the Qing Dynasty. Even though Tibet was
considered a dependency to the Qing Dynasty, the Tibetan language stayed completely separate from
the Chinese language. At one point in the 19th, due to the Great Game of politics of Central Asia,
Tibet closed itself off to foreigners. The Great Game of politics is when Britain and Russia fought for
influence over the region of Central Asia. Both Britain and Russia wanted influence over Tibet
because, Tibet acted as a buffer between the two countries and India. Though Tibet had their own
government system, the Qing Dynasty still considered it a dependency in the nineteenth

The Psalms Function As A School Of Prayer
Introduction
For almost two thousand years, the Psalms were essential to the devotional practice of the Christian
church, teaching the believer to pray in response to the living God, a confession of praise and glory to
the Almighty God. Thus, when the contemporary church thus that she is joining a large group of
people that for nearly thirty centuries based their prayers and worship in those ancients words. In
Eugene H. Peterson s view, there is no other place where can be seen such a deeply and detailed form,
of the human dimension in the Bible history as in the Psalms.
The aim of this paper is to analyze how the Psalms should be used in the church today. For that, this
study is divided into three parts: First, the Psalms and Prayer, where will be discussed how the book of
Psalms function as a school of prayer. Second, Christians and the use of the Psalms, in this topic will
be highlighted how Christians can find Jesus in the Psalms. Finally, putting into practice is a topic that
will explain the value and the need of using the Psalm in the church.
The Psalms and Prayer
The Psalter was the school that Israel and the church appealed to learn how to pray, which along with
Isaiah was the most cited book by Jesus and the apostles in the New Testament. For the first Christians
the rules were, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms. Thus, as their Jewish
fathers listened to the Word of God through the Psalms its instructions and laments

Essay about Japanese Gardens
Japanese Gardens
The role of gardens play a much more important role in Japan than here in the United States. This is
due primarily to the fact the Japanese garden embodies native values, cultural beliefs and religious
principles. Perhaps this is why there is no one prototype for the Japanese garden, just as there is no
one native philosophy or aesthetic. In this way, similar to other forms of Japanese art, landscape
design is constantly evolving due to exposure to outside influences, mainly Chinese, that effect not
only changing aesthetic tastes but also the values of patrons. In observing a Japanese garden, it is
important to remember that the line between the garden and the landscape that surrounds it is not
separate. Instead, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The architecture norm for aristocratic homes was in the Shinden zurkuri style, which was clearly
based on the principle that the individual parts of the building should be merged as much as possible
into the garden (Yoshida, p.12). The main building, named the Shinden, represented the area reserved
for the master himself, and always opened up to the south side of the garden. There were corridors, or
tai no ya, connecting the Shinden to the rest of the buildings in the complex. There corridors created
an enclosure which is where a lake would be placed and where the stroll garden was erected.
Kinkakuji, also known as the Golden Pavilion (1394), serves as an example of this Shinden type. The
site in northern Kyoto was developed as a large retirement estate by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu (1358 1409)
beginning in 1394. The pavilion itself was sited the edge of a sprawling palace complex that no longer
exists today. This was intended as proof that the warrior shogunate could contribute to the cultural and
aesthetic life of the land to an extent equal to that of the imperial aristocracy. It has been recorded that
the actual emperor of Japan visited Kinkakuji in 1408, the first time an emperor had ever stayed with a
person that was not a member of the imperial court. The shogun

Research Paper On Zigbee
ABSTRACT : Railways are the popular mode of Transport in almost all major cities of the World.
Railways are the most widely used and comfortable modes of transportation system. The major cause
for railway accidents is collision of trains on the same track. The main aim of this anti collision system
is to identify collision points and to report these error cases to main control room nearer to the station
as well as grid control station. Majority of accidents occurred due to improper communication among
the network between drivers and control room, due to wrong signaling, worst atmospheric condition,
immediate change of route . The train driver doesn t get proper information in time leading to
hazardous situations. So this system by using zigbee protocol provides communication in between
trains, which provide information or track id of one train to another train to avoid collision.
Keywords ARM7LPC2148, sensor, track switches, fire alert, zigbee technology.

Today Railways is one of the efficient and largest transports in world. But railway system is also
facing some problems. In this paper we are providing some electronic element to provide some safety

Truman And The Cold War
The United States came out of World War II ready to concentrate on domestic issues, but
unfortunately, the more pressing issue of the Cold War needed addressing. Democracy and
communism challenged the world order and the United States and the USSR took center stage on
determining the world s economic, social and political future for the next forty five years. Each
American president handled the power differently, acted on what he thought was in the best interest of
the United States, and took on the Cold War through words and actions that often translated to real
war but never directly with Russia.
The basis of the idea was clearly spoken in a 1946 cable by U.S. peacekeeper George F. Kennan

The entry requirements
Whether you re a new or a relapsing client, support groups and information sessions like Drug Rehab
Center in FL will always accept you. The only entry requirement is to abstain from drug or alcohol use
when you begin the program. Abstinence is not always requirement for psychological program, but
medical programs require abstinence because of the detoxification effects.

Whether it s spiritual, mental or physical, you must agree with the program s philosophy. All addiction
treatments have different philosophies. The Good Future Rehab Center of Florida uses a 12 step
approach.
The time and duration of stay
Contrary to the stereotypes, many people continue to work full time or part time. Good Future Rehab

INTRODUCTION Popularity contests are often notable within the modren media industry. This
composed report will outline The Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception , composed by
Theodor Adorno Max Horkheimer with the below objectives. It will investigate representations of
Gender and Race . As well, it will provide primary focus on key concepts, such as, Mass Production
and Culture Industry . The above will be finished in detail while utilizing Don Scardino s series
arrangement: 2 Broke Girls as an essential case/ spotlight and both Theodor Adorno Max Horkheimer
s The Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception . SUMMARY A main concern of The
Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception is the expression of what is viewed as a Culture
Industry . The term Culture Industry is expected to allude to the business showcasing of society, the
spectrum of the industry that deals particularly with the generation of society that is rather than what s
considered to be Authentic Culture . In The Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception both
Horkheimer and Adorno argue that mechanically delivered society denies individuals of their creative
ability and assumes control over their reasoning for them. The Culture Industry conveys the products.

Master Harold and the boys
Master Harold and the boys Inclusion in the Curriculum Essay
In his masterpiece Master Harold and the boys, Athol Fugard has journeyed deep into sensitive issues
including racism and growing up, without sacrificing the high technical standard that often
distinguishes great theatre. The poignant and enlightening journey that is Fugard s piece undoubtedly
deserves inclusion in any English curriculum, with the work s characterization, themes, conflicts and
motifs all earning this distinction.
With only three characters sharing dialogue and one of these playing a minor role, detailed
characterization is a highlight of Master
Harold and the boys. The major protagonist, Hally, is a white seventeen year old intended to be an ...

Thematically, Master Harold and the boys covers two sensitive and important issues, which are key to
any education program. The first theme, which must be examined, is that of white superiority and
racial segregation, instigated by the Apartheid system. Fugard, through the course of the play, makes it
clear in subtle references that the white race is considered to be superior to the black in South African
society. One such subtle reference is made when Hally says: Don t try to be clever, Sam. It doesn t suit
you. (35). As the climax develops,
Fugard begins to display this in more blatant dialogue, with lines such as He s a white man and that s
good enough for you (53), reflecting the prejudice and segregation that plagued society at that time. A
further example of Fugard s references to this issue of white supremacy is depicted when Sam
attempts to convey to Hally the simple beauty of ballroom dancing, yet Hally dismisses it as mentally
retarded (39) and the culture of a primitive black society (43). It is not until he puts aside this fa ade
provided by white ideology that he can grasp the true worth of Sam s comments.
The second major theme in the work is that of growing up, and doing this with the traps of society.
Hally is a boy at the crossroads of childhood and manhood, and the opinions and ideals he learns at
this point will likely shape the rest of his life. The society of white

Hg Wells Accomplishments
H. G. Wells Done H. G. Wells is a paradox of a man. For example, his fascination with utopias,
advocated free love, and had an optimistic vision for humanity. In practice, he created the modern
dystopian template, married twice, and wrote works dark themes, such as The Island of Dr. Moreau. In
Wellsian fashion, Plato s Republic, Rudyard Kipling s The Jungle Book, and the scientific advances of
the nineteenth century are evident as Wells s influences when he wrote The Island of Dr. Moreau.

many of his works. Wells taught at his alma mater after his graduation, but had to stop after
contracting tuberculosis, as stated in Great Authors of Science Fiction Fantasy ( H.G. Wells 152).
Though he wrote to help support himself and his family, his interest in science remained. The two
most sensational (and influential) were vivisection and eugenics. In short, the practice of vivisection
was examining the workings of the organs of a living organism. Many people opposed the practice on
the grounds that it harmed the animals. However most scientists took great care of those animals.
Continuing on, eugenics is selective breeding to improve the overall quality of the human species.
Wells was against the concept, believing that selective breeding would hinder the human race instead
of helping it ( The Island

Human Attraction
A person might think that love is just a feeling for someone else they find attractive, and that it is just
that, a feeling. However, there is a scientific reason why that person is attracted to one person, and not
another. There are many contributing factors to how we are attracted to each other, three of which are
pheromones, major histocompatibility complex(MHC) and genetics. One of the major elements of
human attraction is pheromones. Pheromones are biochemical molecules that can take many different
forms, such as skunk spray, or pheromones in bees that direct them to flowers, or even sex
pheromones. According to Psychology Today, The evaluative sniffing that mammals engage in during
courtship were clues that scent is the chemical equivalent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What many people do not know, is that our genes help us to find a partner. A team lead by Chris
Wedekind at the University of Bern in Switzerland conducted a study to find if MHC variations affect
how women, and how they evaluate the aroma. Chris and his team found something interesting; they
found that women preferred the scent of men with a much different MHC profile, and the women
thought that MHC similar men smelled like their father or brother. Another finding of the team was
that the intensity of the smell is also a factor, with some men with stronger scents being rated lower,
possibly because it is a common signal of disease. It was also noted that men with unusually sweet
smells were often rated low, because it is a common sign of schizophrenia. Overall, our genes are very
important for choosing the right mate the first time and making sure that that person is the right one.
All in all, pheromones, MHC, and genes all play important parts in finding our true love. They are
also important for the survival and health of us and our offspring. However we look at it, love is a
potent force that can be more powerful than the drive to stay alive. Some people will do virtually
anything for love, will

Essay on Lutheranism
Lutheranism
The Roman Catholic Church dominated religion for many years in Europe and became an extremely
powerful institution. Over the years, the Roman church became corrupt and immoral in many ways.
The development of the Protestant Reformation, Lutheranism, was greatly influenced by political
events in the years proceeding the 16th century. The declared aim of the original reformer, Martin
Luther, was to restore the Christian faith as it had been at its formation, while salvaging what he
considered valuable from the Roman Catholic tradition that had developed during the previous
centuries. Luther broke the unity of the Catholic Church forever by exposing their faults and
misguided notions. Lutheranism spread quickly due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, the only person who could call a counsil was the Pope. This last point emphasizes that the
Roman Catholic Empire created laws of their own that were dictated by one sole person. Luther set
out to spread his idea of true Christianity.
The main ideology of Lutheranism is that salvation can be gained by three fundamental precepts: by
faith, by grace and by scripture alone. Luther felt that Salvation could not be achieved through good
works such as prayer or holy living: Good works do not make a good man, but a good man does good
works. (Luther, On Christian Liberty, p.9). Faith in God is created through the belief and love for Him;
salvation would rise from it nonetheless. Luther felt that it was up to every individual to interpret the
Scriptures and decide for himself what was good. This was a revolutionary concept, as previously it
had been only the Pope who could interpret the Scriptures. Another concept of Lutheranism was that
every believer could achieve priesthood. All men who had true faith had the opportunity to serve God
and were equal in His eyes. Among Christians there shall and can be no authority; rather all are alike
subject to one another. (Luther, Part Two. How Far Temporal Authority Extends, p.31). Bishops and
priests in the Lutheran church were not authoritative figures but simply serving an office.
In comparison to other sects that evolved from the Protestant Reformation, Lutheranism had

place during and thus became intertwined with the turbulent cultural and social uprisings of the 1960s,
ultimately shifting the country s course over the latter half of the 20th century. A flashpoint in the Cold
War, the Vietnam War was essentially a contest of diplomatic and ideological hostility and an

How Did Thomas Paine Use Ethos In The Crisis No 1
No Paine, No Gain Heralded as the leader of a new age of philosophy and eventual rebellion, Thomas
Paine gave way to the birth of America and its subsequent constitution. Presenting his views in The
Crisis, No 1, he explicitly petitions for a call to arms and separation from the motherland. His
associate Patrick Henry wrote the Virginia Convention, detailing a similar argument for independence,
albeit to a lesser impact on American colonists. The Crisis, No 1 is more persuasive than the Virginia
Convention because its author employs logos and pathos to push Americans to continue the fight
against Britain. To begin with, Paine uses a multitude of logos specific arguments. Toward the end of
the piece he describes the present army which gives the readers a justified hope in the American
militia. He writes, ¨Once more we are again collected and collecting; our new army at both ends of the
continent is recruiting fast, and we shall be able to open the next campaign with sixty thousand men,

Regulating Fast Food
It s true that the U.S is the land of the free, but it s also the land of the quick and convenient. This is
why fast food is the go to meal for Americans rushing through overflowing schedules. Not only are
those greasy burgers delicious, they are also premade and ready to pick up at the drop of a dime.
However, citizens often do not take into account the negativities of such a speedy diet. Government
regulation is the answer to that problem. Though fast food regulation may seem excessively intrusive,
it is actually beneficial to everyone involved. For example, using zoning laws, restricting advertising,
and helping people become informed on the foods they eat can counter major health problems
plaguing society today. Zoning laws placed by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overconsumption of fatty foods leads to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other dangerous issues.
In recent years, these issues have become more apparent. It is estimated that more than one out of
three United States citizens is obese. Fast food industries make it unreasonably simple to have access
to greasy junk food. The influence of fast food on culture not only affects bmi, but also life
expectancy. Serious implications can result from unrestricted indulgence of these convenient meals. In
fact, the World Health Organization believes that serious illnesses, such as cancer, could be prevented
if the government took more control of the economy. There are countless individuals who agree with
the WHO, including Roberto De Volgi, the leader of a study that suggested government could prevent
obesity, Unless governments take steps to regulate their economies, the invisible hand of the market
will continue to promote obesity worldwide with disastrous consequences for future public health and
economic productivity (Reuters). Although some may fear over regulation of fast food, under

means the loss of life. Without a certain amount of fast food restriction, the health of the United States

A Study On Neurodevelopmental Psychiatric Disorders
Neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorders such as autism spectrum disorders, schizophrenia and
anxiety disorders, which typically emerge in children and adolescents, have been extensively
investigated worldwide for decades. The pathogenesis and mechanism remained unclear, and no
effective treatment has been identified so far. Recently, a variety of studies identified prenatal stress
(PS) as a risk factor for neurodevelopmental socioemotional disorders (Khashan et al., 2008, Kinney
et al., 2008, Ronald et al., 2010, Monk et al., 2012). A popular thesis proposed that socioemotional
disorders arise from PS induced perturbations to early brain development, especially the
neurophysiology of amygdala. Various studies have shown that the amygdala is implicated in the
pathophysiology of neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorders (Quirk and Gehlert, 2003), also several
studies have identified that PS affects amygdala development (Kraszpulski et al., 2006, Laloux et al.,
2012). However, little is known about how PS influences the amygdala developmental trajectory.
Ehrlich et al. conducted this study to first investigate whether PS has an effect on socioemotional
behavior of adolescents and adults, and secondly whether and how PS alters amygdala neuron
excitability. They were motivated to explain the relationship among PS, amygdala neuronal activity
and socioemotional behaviors because understanding the trajectory of brain development can provide
potential targets for intervention of the

Among Palelestrina s Masses, The Pope Marclus Mass Analysis
1. Among Palestrina s Masses, the Pope Marcellus Mass was among a small number that did not
include what?
According to The Oxford History of Western Music, the Pope Marcellus Mass is one of
Palestrina s few Masses that doesn t consist of preexisting material. In fact, prior to
Palestrina writing the Pope Marcellus Mass, he had written over thirty paraphrase Masses
(imitation masses) which were Masses that borrowed at least two or more parts from another
piece of music (e.g. all L Homme Armé Masses). In contrast to those many paraphrase
Masses, the Pope Marcellus Mass was all original and freely composed.

The listeners and singers also
have to wait a while for a very prominent cadence, and because this Mass has six voices, there
is a lot going on at the same time which keeps the listener s ears busy. Despite these
complexities, however, the Pope Marcellus Mass never has instances of different words being
sung at once, but rather, different syllables of the lyrics being sung at once. Even though it can
be difficult in both cases to clearly hear what s going on, I think that it s much harder to hear
lyrics in a Motet style than in the Pope Marcellus Mass.
2. Whether they please the Council of Trent or not, identify two specific techniques of Palestrina s
style in the Pope Marcellus Mass that would help you identify it as Palestrina s when looking at a
score or listening.
One of the most notable features in the music of Palestrina is a technique called recovered
leaps which are upward leaps that are followed by stepwise descending motion. I remember
learning in class on Friday that that s one of the clues that represent Palestrina, which means
that those leaps should be listened for in his music. I don t think that he was the only composer
who has used them before, but it s important to note that he used

Felix Rousseau Contributions
Henri Julien Felix Rousseau was born May 21, 1844 in a small town in northwestern France called
Laval. Rousseau grew up in a very tough, poor background with many struggles that which created
who he is. With his father being in great debt, he had to move out from his town. There he went to
school with below average grades, but still received prizes for his drawing and music skills. After his
father s death, Rousseau moved to Paris to help his widowed mother out. While in Paris, he found a
girl who he eventually married, but later ended up dying to tuberculosis. His wife s death is when he
began taking painting seriously, in which he later quit to paint only. Rousseau claims that he had no
teacher other than nature although did receive some tips from Felix Auguste Clement and Jean Lean
Gerome. With Rousseau self teaching himself, he obtained a unique technique in his art work.
The Eiffel Tower by Henri Rousseau was painted in 1898. The painting is a nice scene with a river in
the middle which has a light current. There are brown boats that are also in the water with fishermen
on the side of the wall fishing. To be exact, there are five people fishing, one on the left and four on
the right. On the sides of the river are green trees with piles of sand or rock next to them. On the right
side behind the trees are many houses that are in line with each other. The river also has a well lit
bridge that goes across the bypass. The bridge has red and yellow objects which are full

Why Did The United States Become A World Power Dbq Essay
The years between 1860 and 1877 are filled with many developments in the views of the American
people. The North consisted of free states based on an industrial economy while the South based its
agricultural economy on the enslavement of colored males and females. The two sections of America
had two very different views on how the United States should become a world power. Constitutional
developments such as secession of the Southern states in 1860, the Emancipation Proclamation, and
other acts and amendments contributed to more discontent throughout the country. Developments such
as the Black Codes, Freedmen s Bureau, and the creation of the Ku Klux Klan contributed to the

Some states attempted to nullify unfavorable laws. This was viewed as open rebellion and ultimately
lead to the secession of North Carolina. North Carolina seceded from the union on December 24,
1860, claiming that certain duties were imposed on states and many of their powers were restrained.
They argued that this imperiled their continued existence as sovereign states and that they could
secede because the right is implicit in the constitution. They provided legal documents provided in the
law of compact stating that the federal government did not uphold its agreement to honor North
Carolina s rights as a sovereign state ((Document A). This constitutional development helped
contribute to a revolution because after these drastic actions taken by the Southern states, the
questions of the states rights needed to be resolved. Since the North had won the Civil War provided
them the opportunity for them to put down the idea of nullification and secession to rest permanently.
These results of the war gave more power to the federal government and kept tension rising in

The Modern City of Paris
In this essay, I intend to look at Question 1, The Modern City 1, Paris. I have decided to choose and
examine Maison de Verre (1928 32) by architect, Pierre Chareau which is situated in Rue Saint
Guillaume, Paris. Maison de Verre, also known as House of Glass was built in the era of Modern
Movement and of course, it somehow has a strong relation with the early modernist issues materially,
structurally and spatially. I will first explore how the house relates to the industrialisation issue in
general but to be specific how Chareau s interest and decision to use certain materials like steel really
brought forward the sense of the industrial design of the house. Then, I will talk about the relation of
the house with the issue of mechanisation and how successful Chareau was in portraying a set of
machines to live in with amazing planning since the very beginning. His concept of mobility in most
of the mechanical designs really captured my interest. Last but not least, I will discuss the issue of
hygiene in this house as I think that it is somehow a response to the spread of diseases in the twentieth
century and people started to think more about the idea of cleanliness. At the end of this essay, I will
conclude it with a summary of the three modernist issues which will be discussed later and the
influence of Maison de Verre on the following architects generation.
As mentioned earlier, industrialisation is one of the early modernist issues which relates significantly

Sickle Cell Anemia Essay
Sickle cell disease is a hereditary hemoglobin defect that occurs in people of African and
Mediterranean decent. First identified in 1904 by a hospital intern, sickle cell disease became, more
than forty years later, the first disease found to be a genetic disease (Harris 83). This disorder is caused
by a recessive allele that changes the structure of hemoglobin. Sickle cell hemoglobin (HbS) differs
from normal hemoglobin (HbA) in that of all the 574 amino acids it is made of, just one is different. In
the sixth amino acid of the beta chain, HbA has glutamic acid and HbS has valine. Normal red blood
cells have a biconcave shape that transports hemoglobin which is responsible for most oxygen
transport. The shape of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are precautions, though, that should be taken in order to prevent this disease. For example, in
Saudi Arabia, they have a Saudi Premarital Screening Program. In 2004, the Saudi Ministry of Health

genetic disorders in future generations (Fakhoury). A blood test will be done to screen for sickle cell
trait or sickle cell disease. Should married couples find out they have the sickle cell trait, genetic
counseling can be done to help couples understand the risks associated with conceiving. Once a child
has been conceived Couples at risk of having affected children can be identified by inexpensive and
reliable blood tests; chronic villus sampling from nine weeks of pregnancy can be performed for
prenatal diagnosis (WHO 3). There are several countries where the prevalence of sickle cell anemia is

I decided to eat a little snack. I ate some apples with caramel dip and I was off to swim.
So, I continued to swim and I was super anxious to ride the slide; but I thought to myself why not save
the best for last. I decided to wait until the end to ride the slide. I rode the slides that didn t seem as
cool. I rode all of those but one. The reason I didn t ride the other slide was because the line was too
long.I decided to take a break and just lay and soak up the sun. As I soaked up the sun I saw that they

Lubrication Theory For Journal Bearing
John Rogers Dr. Sawicki Flows in a Journal Bearing 17 June 2016 I. LUBRICATION THEORY
Lubrication is the use of viscous fluids to reduce friction and damage between solid surfaces. In
hydrodynamic lubrication, a shaft rotating in a bearing is supported by a layer or wedge of oil so the
shaft is not in contact with bearing material. The surfaces are in sliding motion relative to each other.
Lubrication theory for journal bearings describes the flow of fluids in which the fluid film lubricant
thickness is far smaller than the dimensions of the bearing. A major focus in lubrication theory is to
determine the pressure distribution in the fluid volume. In this way, the forces of the shaft being
supported by the lubricant can be measured. A purpose of analyzing crankshaft bearings is to diminish
friction and wear due to small film thicknesses [1]. The minimum film thickness of a journal bearing
should be greater than the average asperity height (unevenness, roughness) of the journal bearing
surface to prevent any surface contact, and consequently, avoid friction and wear. For journal bearing
design, the minimum safe value for film thickness is 2.5 microns [2]. Values lower than this can create
too low of supporting oil pressure and damage the journal bearing. Bearings in reciprocating
machinery operate with dynamic loads creating large journal orbits within the bearing clearance,
which is the distance between the radius of the bearing and the radius of the journal

Homelessness in Long Island, New York Essay
The problem I am going to discuss is homelessness in Long Island. What is homelessness and who
defines it? Homelessness is a person lacking adequate shelter or otherwise residing below the minimal
standard of what is considered a safe dwelling. The federal definition of homeless is an individual who

problem in big cities like New York or Los Angeles, but rather it is a global epidemic affecting small

emergency shelters to meet the housing needs of the single adult who calls after regular business

homeless families living in shelters are there for the first time; most work and will leave as soon as
they find affordable housing. In shelters, 30% of the homeless population has been homeless before.
This group is not able to earn a wage high enough to maintain economic independence and the

To Build a Fire by Jack London is a novella, published in 1908, is about a man who individually
travels through the Yukon, and faces a variety of obstacles, until finally he decides to face dignity in
his death. The novella s point of view is third person omniscient, therefore the narrator tells us
thoughts and feelings of all of the characters in the story. London was born on January 12, 1876 in San
Francisco to his mother, Flora Chaney who was married to John London. London had a challenging

In this novella, the environment surrounding the man is the Yukon in Alaska. The temperature is said
to be less than fifty below zero, and it is abundant with snow and ice. Nature is indifferent to what
happens to the man, whether it is positive or negative, The environment does nothing to help its
inhabitants; in fact, it is coldly indifferent to their existence and struggle. In To Build a Fire, the Yukon
would be bitterly cold without the man, as well, and it does not cease when the man struggles to stay
alive (Wayne). Throughout the novella, it seems as if nature is after the man, throwing obstacle after
obstacle at the poor man; however, nature just simply doesn t care about the man s well being. Even
though the man is suffering and fighting for life, the temperature doesn t raise; and even if he wasn t
there the temperature still wouldn t have risen. Another example that portrays this fact is when the
man was trying to dry off and the snow took out the fire he was using. This fire was the hope of
survival for the man, yet nature just doesn t care. The last example that presents this branch of
naturalism is represented by the dog s behavior. After the man creates his first fire and defrosts the ice
on his body, he calls the dog because he decides to continue his journey. Although the dog
accompanies him, it opposed the idea because it wanted to stay warm

Common Motivations For Stimulant Use
Nowadays, higher education has become the norm for students pursuing healthcare profession such as
medicine and pharmacy. However, expensive tuition, competition for jobs, and length of study, higher
education students feel pressure to succeed and perform well in school. Among the higher education,
particularly healthcare students, have turned to medications like amphetamine salts and
methylphenidate to enhance academic performance, even though the medications are intended to treat
psychological conditions such as ADHD. Nonmedical use of stimulants by the students is drug
diversion, using prescription medications illegally, which is an ethical dilemma for the students since
they are exploiting the healthcare system, yet they feel the pressure to perform in school because the
stakes are so high to succeed. As mentioned earlier, stimulants like amphetamine salts and
methylphenidate are used by students to improve academic performance even though the intended use
is for ADHD. Common motivations for stimulant use are to prepare for exams, reduce sleep, and to
improve focus and extend study hours1. A study by Webb, et al., 148 medical students were surveyed
on nonmedical stimulant use that excluded caffeine. Of those 148 that were surveyed, 15% reported
using stimulants while at medical school with amphetamine salts and methylphenidate being the most

Equality Is A Broken Social Contract In America
In America, the land of the free, people believe that it s the greatest place to be. And America would
probably be what everyone believes, but it has a very serious problem that could eventually destroy
the country as whole. America is built upon Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but it has a
strong equality issue that has to be taken care of. Equality is a social contract in America and
unfortunately it is a broken one. A social contract is an agreement amongst the members of a society,
but equality is a serious issue. Equality poses the biggest problem to America simply because in any
country the people make the country, and if the people can t get along either internal conflicts occur,
or people eventually leave. Throughout America everyone regardless of race, color, or sexual
orientation has experienced inequality in some part of America. Words are exchanged, fists are
thrown, and in serious cases lives are lost because people are racists to one another. Equality is a
broken social contract in America that will eventually be its demise if not attended to. There are
countless instances of of inequality in America, there is inequality against those who are black,
hispanics, people who are apart of or support the LGBT group, and even women. It Doesn t matter
where in America, there is no such thing as a community where people treat each other as equal.

Odessa wasn t even integrated until the early 1980s. Even after it was integrated, the district lines were
drawn so that Permian would get most of the black students and Odessa High would get the Mexicans

black players on the team. Of those six, five of them started and one of them was injured (107). The

Hierarchy In America
Hierarchy, a system or organization in which people or groups are ranked one above the other

Instead, she was faced with many obstacles like racism. Racism is one of the major social issues of the

This poem that I am going to be focusing on is titled Ode to Autumn , written by John Keats. This
poem shows an aspect of the natural world and I am going to prove in detail how the techniques used

The title of this poem is Ode to Autumn . This is basically what the poem is about. The poem focuses
on autumn, one of the four seasons. I am going to be focusing on two techniques used by the poet
which are mood and word choice. Autumn is known to us as a season heading into the cold winter.
However, the poet expresses Autumn as a fun filling and a season with numerous activities. The poem

These verbs are found in line five, seven and eight of stanza one. There are such as to bend , to swell
and to set budding . The use of verbs in this early part of this poem is effective in creating a sense of
motion and it makes the reader think deeply about he kind of autumn that the poet is describing.
Finally, in the first stanza, the poet uses repetition to also convey and image of plenty. The expression
to set budding more and still more shows that there is plenty. It also shows something infinite. The
poet uses the repetition of the word more to convey this image. This type of technique used is very
effective as it increases the emphasis on the right message that the poet is trying to carry across.
The second stanza focuses on the behaviour of the poet and how he reacted to autumn. It also shows
how relaxing autumn was. Again, the poet starts the stanza with an expression, this time a question.
Who hath not seen Thee oft amid thy store?
The poet then goes on to answer this question. The third line in the second stanza reads sitting on a
granary floor . This suggests that the poet was relaxing on the granary floor in a laid back atmosphere.
The poet uses the word choice winnowing before including the word wind. This technique is effective
because it brings in a sense of motion in the wind and the word winnowing

Arm Wrestling With My Father Rhetorical Analysis
The relationship between a father and their child is tremendously salient, and will influence the life of
both the parent and the adolescent in many ways. Often, it can be difficult for someone to share their
personal relationships that they had with their father, as it can be a very delicate subject. Despite this,
renowned authors Brad Manning and Sandra Cisneros are two people who chose to write about their
unique experiences and childhoods that they shared with their fathers. Both Brad and Sandra felt their
childhood relationships with their fathers were unorthodox. This was explicitly outlined in Brad s
freshman composition paper titled Arm Wrestling With My Father and Sandra s magazine article titled
Only Daughter. Through varying rhetorical strategies, the authors purpose and audience is clearly
portrayed in both selections. One of the most important components to any piece of writing is the
intended audience. In Arm Wrestling With My Father, Manning s intended audience is anyone who
may have had an abnormal or physical relationship with their father. He wanted his paper to be read
by individuals that grew up with a lack of emotional love and an abundance of physical contact with
their fathers. Although there was love between Manning and his father, it was clear that neither party
wanted to acknowledge it. He wrote this in his freshman composition course at Harvard, knowing that
although it was going to his professors, it was meant for anyone who may have experienced

Other than metalcore, it s fair to say that Glam has been the largest target of ridicule in the world of
heavy music. Since its conception in the 70 s, the stereotypes of glam rock have always been made fun
of due to the flamboyancy of the attire, makeup and concepts. Essentially, people thought it was
everything rock shouldn t be. However, once the masses were able to see through the bravado, they
understood that bands such as Motley Crue, Skid Row and Twisted Sister could actually write stadium
crushing rock songs that were equally as potent as the songs their more masculine counterparts like
AC/DC and Motorhead produced. Nowadays, glam rock has grown out of style; 2017 is not the same
as it was in 1980. Nevertheless, there are a number of bands who still retain the nostalgia of downing a
bottle of Jack down Sunset Strip while someone else s oversized hairdo blows in the wind from the
sunroof of a limousine. Steel Panther are one such band and their sex focused, single entendre, porno
parody of glam rock still remains as catchy as crabs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the pounding drumbeats, bouncing riffs and direct lyricism, everything has been tailored to
sound incredibly straightforward and unabashed. Therefore, this simplicity makes the album, and all
Steel Panther material, infectiously catchy. Kicking off with Goin in the Backdoor, which describes
the apparent necessity of anal sex, Steel Panther quickly establish a hard rhythm section and a
towering chorus with brief spoken word intersections reminiscent of Van Halen. Sliding into action
with placid guitars, then twisting into bendy riffs and soaring solos performed by Russ Satchel Parrish,
Poontang Boomerang is also a one directional track focused on being as anthemic as possible. While
the songs on Steel Panthers fourth are undoubtedly catchy, it s nothing dissimilar from anything they

Zachary Gosnell
Southeast Missouri State University
SO 102 October 12, 2017
Abstract
The lyrics of Concrete Angel has meaning to it. The lyrics focus on child abuse. Child abuse is a
problem that may children all over the world face. Child abuse can be in the form of verbal and/or
physical abuse, bullying, and so on. The lyrics shows us how the obvious signs of abuse can be seen
but bystanders choose to ignore what is going on. The lyrics of Concrete Angel relates to sociology in
many ways. The lyrics relate to three perspectives of sociology. Those perspectives are conflict,
interactionism, and functionalism. The main focus of this paper is the characterization portraying the
societal issue of child abuse.
Introduction
The song I chose to do my analysis on is Concrete Angel written by Stephanie Kay Bentley and Rob
Crosby and sung by Martina McBride. I felt the song has meaning and I would be able to analysis it.
The message of the song exudes to it listener to child abuse, or any relating form of abuse. The lyrics
talk about how victims of abuse show obvious signs of physical or mental harm that bystanders
choose to ignore. Concrete Angel is about a little girl who is trapped in a life of turmoil. The song
describes her short innocent life. Her life is lived in vein as neglect and abuse plagues her. The adults
around her seem to be aware of her anguish but like most people they chose to not get

The Effects Of Fear On Hiv And Hiv
Fear plays a big role in the way society treats or views patients who have been diagnosed as HIV
positive. Due to the lack of general knowledge regarding the illness and how it is transmitted, they are
led to believe a HIV positive person is extremely contagious, and can go on to infect anyone within
the general vicinity. As we now know, it has become apparent that HIV can only be transmitted
through certain activities that involve fluid transfer between an infected patient and someone who is
HIV negative. These activities include sexual intercourse, being born to an infected mother (during
pregnancy, birth or through being breast fed), being pricked by a contaminated needle (eg health care
workers), receiving blood transfusions from an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All other forms of transmission are at such low risk they are negligible, but still possible. [2]
Unfortunately, due to the nature of the possible methods of transmission, it has become easy for
society to associate this illness with shameful or immoral behaviours, such as homosexuality, drug use
and sex work. It is because of this behaviour associated with the illness that a lot of stigma and
discrimination arise, and due to the reluctance to talk about the issue, the fear of the disease because of
the misconceptions around the topic remains a big issue that if not resolved will continue to harm all
patients afflicted with this illness. The consequences of this disease on HIV+ patients is widespread
and does not only affect the persons health but consequently also affects almost all other aspects of
their lives, such as: their income, marriage/ family life, healthcare, their position in legal situations,
reputation and also goes on to cause depression and anxiety as they lose hope and feel less worth due
to the stigma they face. There are many sources of the aforementioned stigma that go on to directly
affect a patient in the above mentioned areas of their lives. To begin with, HIV+ patients are subject to
a lot of discrimination from the government as in many cases (in 60% of countries) there are various
laws and policies that hinder patients accessibility to medications and treatments, affecting everyone
struggling with this illness and further

The aim of this paper is to analyze how the Psalms should be used in the church today. For that, this study is divided into three parts: First, the Psalms and Prayer, where will be discussed how the book of Psalms function as a school of prayer. Second, Christians and the use of the Psalms, in this topic will be highlighted how Christians can find Jesus in the Psalms. Finally, putting into practice is a topic that will explain the value and the need of using the Psalm in the church. The Psalms and Prayer The Psalter was the school that Israel and the church appealed to learn how to pray, which along with Isaiah was the most cited book by Jesus and the apostles in the New Testament. For the first Christians the rules were, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms. • 4. Essay about Japanese Gardens Japanese Gardens The role of gardens play a much more important role in Japan than here in the United States. This is due primarily to the fact the Japanese garden embodies native values, cultural beliefs and religious principles. Perhaps this is why there is no one prototype for the Japanese garden, just as there is no one native philosophy or aesthetic. In this way, similar to other forms of Japanese art, landscape design is constantly evolving due to exposure to outside influences, mainly Chinese, that effect not only changing aesthetic tastes but also the values of patrons. There were corridors, or tai no ya, connecting the Shinden to the rest of the buildings in the complex. There corridors created an enclosure which is where a lake would be placed and where the stroll garden was erected. Kinkakuji, also known as the Golden Pavilion (1394), serves as an example of this Shinden type. The site in northern Kyoto was developed as a large retirement estate by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu (1358 1409) beginning in 1394. The pavilion itself was sited the edge of a sprawling palace complex that no longer exists today. • 5. Research Paper On Zigbee ABSTRACT : Railways are the popular mode of Transport in almost all major cities of the World. Railways are the most widely used and comfortable modes of transportation system. The major cause for railway accidents is collision of trains on the same track. The main aim of this anti collision system is to identify collision points and to report these error cases to main control room nearer to the station as well as grid control station. Majority of accidents occurred due to improper communication among the network between drivers and control room, due to wrong signaling, worst atmospheric condition, immediate change of route . Thematically, Master Harold and the boys covers two sensitive and important issues, which are key to any education program. The first theme, which must be examined, is that of white superiority and racial segregation, instigated by the Apartheid system. Fugard, through the course of the play, makes it clear in subtle references that the white race is considered to be superior to the black in South African society. One such subtle reference is made when Hally says: Don t try to be clever, Sam. It doesn t suit you. (35). As the climax develops, Fugard begins to display this in more blatant dialogue, with lines such as He s a white man and that s good enough for you (53), reflecting the prejudice and segregation that plagued society at that time. A further example of Fugard s references to this issue of white supremacy is depicted when Sam attempts to convey to Hally the simple beauty of ballroom dancing, yet Hally dismisses it as mentally retarded (39) and the culture of a primitive black society (43). It is not until he puts aside this fa ade provided by white ideology that he can grasp the true worth of Sam s comments. The second major theme in the work is that of growing up, and doing this with the traps of society. Hally is a boy at the crossroads of childhood and manhood, and the opinions and ideals he learns at this point will likely shape the rest of his life. The society of white supremacy ... Chris and his team found something interesting; they found that women preferred the scent of men with a much different MHC profile, and the women thought that MHC similar men smelled like their father or brother. Another finding of the team was that the intensity of the smell is also a factor, with some men with stronger scents being rated lower, possibly because it is a common signal of disease. It was also noted that men with unusually sweet smells were often rated low, because it is a common sign of schizophrenia. Overall, our genes are very important for choosing the right mate the first time and making sure that that person is the right one. All in all, pheromones, MHC, and genes all play important parts in finding our true love. They are also important for the survival and health of us and our offspring. Luther felt that Salvation could not be achieved through good works such as prayer or holy living: Good works do not make a good man, but a good man does good works. A Study On Neurodevelopmental Psychiatric Disorders Neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorders such as autism spectrum disorders, schizophrenia and anxiety disorders, which typically emerge in children and adolescents, have been extensively investigated worldwide for decades. The pathogenesis and mechanism remained unclear, and no effective treatment has been identified so far. Recently, a variety of studies identified prenatal stress (PS) as a risk factor for neurodevelopmental socioemotional disorders (Khashan et al., 2008, Kinney et al., 2008, Ronald et al., 2010, Monk et al., 2012). A popular thesis proposed that socioemotional disorders arise from PS induced perturbations to early brain development, especially the neurophysiology of amygdala. Various studies have shown that the amygdala is implicated in the pathophysiology of neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorders (Quirk and Gehlert, 2003), also several studies have identified that PS affects amygdala development (Kraszpulski et al., 2006, Laloux et al., 2012). However, little is known about how PS influences the amygdala developmental trajectory. Ehrlich et al. conducted this study to first investigate whether PS has an effect on socioemotional behavior of adolescents and adults, and secondly whether and how PS alters amygdala neuron excitability. Despite these complexities, however, the Pope Marcellus Mass never has instances of different words being sung at once, but rather, different syllables of the lyrics being sung at once. There he went to school with below average grades, but still received prizes for his drawing and music skills. After his father s death, Rousseau moved to Paris to help his widowed mother out. Rousseau claims that he had no teacher other than nature although did receive some tips from Felix Auguste Clement and Jean Lean Gerome. With Rousseau self teaching himself, he obtained a unique technique in his art work. The Eiffel Tower by Henri Rousseau was painted in 1898. The painting is a nice scene with a river in the middle which has a light current. There are brown boats that are also in the water with fishermen on the side of the wall fishing. To be exact, there are five people fishing, one on the left and four on the right. On the sides of the river are green trees with piles of sand or rock next to them. The North consisted of free states based on an industrial economy while the South based its agricultural economy on the enslavement of colored males and females. The two sections of America had two very different views on how the United States should become a world power. Constitutional developments such as secession of the Southern states in 1860, the Emancipation Proclamation, and other acts and amendments contributed to more discontent throughout the country. North Carolina seceded from the union on December 24, 1860, claiming that certain duties were imposed on states and many of their powers were restrained. They argued that this imperiled their continued existence as sovereign states and that they could secede because the right is implicit in the constitution. They provided legal documents provided in the law of compact stating that the federal government did not uphold its agreement to honor North Carolina s rights as a sovereign state ((Document A). This constitutional development helped contribute to a revolution because after these drastic actions taken by the Southern states, the questions of the states rights needed to be resolved. I have decided to choose and examine Maison de Verre (1928 32) by architect, Pierre Chareau which is situated in Rue Saint Guillaume, Paris. Maison de Verre, also known as House of Glass was built in the era of Modern Movement and of course, it somehow has a strong relation with the early modernist issues materially, structurally and spatially. I will first explore how the house relates to the industrialisation issue in general but to be specific how Chareau s interest and decision to use certain materials like steel really brought forward the sense of the industrial design of the house. Then, I will talk about the relation of the house with the issue of mechanisation and how successful Chareau was in portraying a set of machines to live in with amazing planning since the very beginning. His concept of mobility in most of the mechanical designs really captured my interest. Last but not least, I will discuss the issue of hygiene in this house as I think that it is somehow a response to the spread of diseases in the twentieth century and people started to think more about the idea of cleanliness. At the end of this essay, I will conclude it with a summary of the three modernist issues which will be discussed later and the influence of Maison de Verre on the following architects generation. First identified in 1904 by a hospital intern, sickle cell disease became, more than forty years later, the first disease found to be a genetic disease (Harris 83). This disorder is caused by a recessive allele that changes the structure of hemoglobin. Sickle cell hemoglobin (HbS) differs from normal hemoglobin (HbA) in that of all the 574 amino acids it is made of, just one is different. In the sixth amino acid of the beta chain, HbA has glutamic acid and HbS has valine. • 30. Lubrication Theory For Journal Bearing John Rogers Dr. Sawicki Flows in a Journal Bearing 17 June 2016 I. LUBRICATION THEORY Lubrication is the use of viscous fluids to reduce friction and damage between solid surfaces. In hydrodynamic lubrication, a shaft rotating in a bearing is supported by a layer or wedge of oil so the shaft is not in contact with bearing material. The surfaces are in sliding motion relative to each other. Lubrication theory for journal bearings describes the flow of fluids in which the fluid film lubricant thickness is far smaller than the dimensions of the bearing. A major focus in lubrication theory is to determine the pressure distribution in the fluid volume. In this way, the forces of the shaft being supported by the lubricant can be measured. A purpose of analyzing crankshaft bearings is to diminish friction and wear due to small film thicknesses [1]. The minimum film thickness of a journal bearing should be greater than the average asperity height (unevenness, roughness) of the journal bearing surface to prevent any surface contact, and consequently, avoid friction and wear. For journal bearing design, the minimum safe value for film thickness is 2.5 microns [2]. Values lower than this can create too low of supporting oil pressure and damage the journal bearing. Bearings in reciprocating machinery operate with dynamic loads creating large journal orbits within the bearing clearance, which is the distance between the radius of the bearing and the radius of the journal ... The temperature is said to be less than fifty below zero, and it is abundant with snow and ice. In To Build a Fire, the Yukon would be bitterly cold without the man, as well, and it does not cease when the man struggles to stay alive (Wayne). Throughout the novella, it seems as if nature is after the man, throwing obstacle after obstacle at the poor man; however, nature just simply doesn t care about the man s well being. Even though the man is suffering and fighting for life, the temperature doesn t raise; and even if he wasn t there the temperature still wouldn t have risen. Another example that portrays this fact is when the man was trying to dry off and the snow took out the fire he was using. This fire was the hope of survival for the man, yet nature just doesn t care. The last example that presents this branch of naturalism is represented by the dog s behavior.
