Summary Of Frames Of Reference By Jeff Wall
Jeff Wall reviews his decades of practices as a photographer in his article Frames of Reference. In his
prose, Wall explains how he learnt from multiple forms of art and apply essential ideas embedded in
these various forms to his work of photography. He characterizes two elements in his work, the large
and the representation of the nature and existence, which he extracts from the criteria of Western
painting and utilize in his photograpic works. To analyze the purpose of Wall s approach, it is vital to
know how his understanding of photography works and practices developed through his career.
Wall aims to test the nuance of photography works and enlarge the boundary of photography by
applying different concept of other art forms to it. Wall wants to make photography with qualities in
other art forms that held valuable indications for aspects of photographic making. It is crucial that this
combination of concepts and idea in Wall s works is different from the practice of photo collage. The
documentary tradition of photography makes photography distinct from other art forms. Wall refutes
the approach of blending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bishop is looking for good morality or ethics within a piece of art work that holds outstanding formal

his works to body size photographs and he adopts the concept of minimalism, address the work of art
with the body of the spectator. Though Wall does not alingn himself with Donald Judd or Carl Andre,
he, as a photographer, applies their logic of inviting the spectator to participate and complete the art
work to his photographs. Wall remains the aesthetics of photograph, a document of the existent world,
and at the same time he is trying to acknowledge the social value in his work, awaring the body of

Affordability At Walmart
The influx of the middle and upper class is exhibited through the amount of affordable housing now
available in neighborhoods throughout Minneapolis and Saint Paul. In 1998 11% of housing in
Minneapolis Saint Paul were densely gentrified neighborhoods, and with time this is increasing (Wyly,
et al). With higher earners entering a neighborhood, the higher the cost of housing is. One way to
measure affordability is comparing the median renter s income and their affordable threshold of rent
(usually 30% of their monthly income) with the percentage of available units that this renter could buy
in a neighborhood. For an area to be considered affordable, 50% or more of units should be available
for a median renter (CURA Housing Forum). In a University

The Role Of Women In Trifles
In Trifles , Glaspell shows the oppression of women back in 1916 when the play was written. In the
play, Glaspell shows the roles of both men and women. To show how men treated women, what was
expected of the women, and how women overcame the patriarchal society that they were placed in.
Also, Trifles having an effect on the society it was based on and how the roles of women have evolved
over time. First of all, in Trifles , men acted towards the women just as they would back in 1916. The
men are seen as very dominating and they have little to no respect for women (School Helper). It is
shown in the play when Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale found the quilt Mrs. Wright was making and they
showed it to Mr. Henderson. They wonder if she was going to quilt it or just know it! (Glaspell). When
they showed Mr. Henderson the quilt, he mocked and laughed at them. Showing that he didn t care
about some quilt that could have been a big piece of solving the case. Also, the men in the play push
the women aside and demote the women when they try to help in the investigation (School Helper).
Mr. Hale and Mr. Henderson really don t care about the things women back then were accustomed to.
When Mr. Henderson asked Mr. Hale if anything was important to investigate in the kitchen, Mr. Hale
said, Nothing here but kitchen things (Glaspell). Proving they don t care about trifles. Second, Susan
Glaspell went into depth of the stereotypes women had in the twentieth century (Igl). That women

The Lost Boys Sociology
Media, including movies has been an outlet for many directors and screenwriters to express both their
opinions and to illustrate the social temperature in which they lived while injecting their own views
into their work. Media fossils like The Lost Boys directed by Joel Schumacher not only provide a
thrilling tale for viewers, but also critiques, comments, and upholds different social norms in an
amusing manner as an outlet for often controversial subjects such as peer pressure amongst young
people. The Lost Boys may be a gory film, but to ignore the film s social context would be to ignore
the complexity of the movie itself.
Many young people today as well as in the eighties were under a siege of pressure from their peers to
conform to the group s expectations. When the older brother Michael first goes into David and his
friends tomb, he is blatantly pressured into drinking and performing dangerous acts that he wouldn t
normally do. Michael is frequently coached by the group who even chanted his name when he
becomes increasingly resistant to let himself fall off of the bridge. Michael s interaction with the
motorcycle crew shows that negative peer pressure was just as ... Show more content on

unattractive, claw like feet are even shown as the vampire David hangs upside down which also
provided a physical flaw detracting from their moody sex appeal. They are then killed in violent

Ambiguity In The Story Of Qii Ju
The Story of Qiu Ju (1992), which was directed by Zhang Yimou, depicts a Chinese woman who
questions the notion of filiality and seeks justice for modernity. In the film, the protagonist, Qiu Ju,
travels between the village, the district and the city several times to make the chief admit his fault of
kicking the groin of her husband, Qinglai. Although the mediation concluded both her husband and the
chief are wrong and the chief have to pay money for the husband s injury, what Qiu Ju requires is not
money but apology, so she keeps visiting higher level officials. This quest for justice represents her
opposition against the traditional idea of filiality in that village, which regards elder people and males
as important people. In filiality, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was crooked by a man in the city and paid too much money. In the court, Qiu Ju had to be against
an officer who is kind to her, and she once tried to quit the suit. She hopes the right thing will be done
by modernity, but she doesn t know what exactly she is doing. After the chief helped her giving birth,
Qiu Ju and her family extremely appreciate for the chief and make him the most important person to
invite their boy s celebration. Finally Qiu Ju and the chief s relationship gets recovered, but at this
time, the chief is sent to a jail. What she wanted was just apology, yet she didn t know that modernity
or the lawsuit can t give her that. In the ending scene, she stood on the road between the village and
the city, which represent she is not in the traditional filiality system nor the modernized city. After all,
what she wanted is in filiality system rather than in modernized system. She required an apology,
which is in other word dignity. Her problem is not financial one, but emotional one. Certainly she
challenged filiality because she is female and the chief is older male. The emotional thing is matter in

Essay on Being Unprepared for Adult Learning
Many students, including myself are entering college for the first time in our lives. They experience
things alien to them and have to deal with an exorbitant amount of anxiety and stress. A major stressor
that stands out is learning the academic way of thinking. Reading rhetorically and writing in a formal
and academic manner are terms that, until now, were entirely foreign to me. At the high school level,
many students are not exposed to these processes. Plain and simple, they just don t experience this
type of thinking and learning. This in turn causes an almost fight and flight response on the student s
part. Many students that struggle through these concepts give themselves the opportunity to stand or
fall on their own accord, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is reminiscent of Professor of Social Research Methodology at UCLA, and one time troubled
student Mike Rose. He writes, I was unprepared. English prose written before the twentieth century
was difficult, sometimes impossible, for me to comprehend. The kind of reasoning I found in logic
was very foreign . (Rose 99) Students can sometimes feel pressured to excel in their academics but
they lack in critical areas that are required to succeed. So they revert to an age old tendency to do the
work, but do not really retain the information. Students stepping into their first English course may
feel overwhelmed by these foreign concepts and commit an absolute academic sin, packing as much
information into their brains as possible for the sole purpose of repeating it back on tests and so forth,
eventually forgetting the information as time passes. Rose exemplifies this behavior in his early
college days. Rose states, I went to school and sat in class and memorized more than understood and
whistled past the academic graveyard . (Rose 97) He closed off any attempt to actually understand
what he was supposed to be reading. Rose could not get past his prejudices towards the literature and
really read into what he was supposed to be learning. This closely models what John Tagg, Professor
or Art History and Comparative Literature at Binghamton University, declares when he writes of the
need to learn in a qualitative way as opposed to a

Analysis Of The Poem Earthling
Billy Collins creates poems that are readable by all, and injected with humor, but has larger social
implications. Collins creates a scene in a planetarium to discuss earth in relation to other planets.
Collins s Earthling creates an appreciation of our life as earthlings. Billy Collins in his poem Earthling
creates an appreciation for the earth. The use of polar opposites in measurable qualities, such as
weight and the characteristics of planets fuels Collin s appreciation of the earth.
The abstinence of rhyme scheme in this poem places a larger significance on the stanzaic structure of
this poem to exhibit an appreciation of earth. The poet chooses to withstand from a rhyme scheme to
create a poem that is irregular in its nature, similar to the ways in which a body is composed, of how a
planet is created.
The poem is split into two mimicking halves, with three stanzas each with ten lines. Each halve has 2
unrhymed quatrains and a distich (an unrhymed couplet.) The versification of this poem enforces the
theme of oppositions and appreciation of earth. There are extremes in the universe, planets humans
can live on and those they cannot. There is not great uniformity on the earth, which is why the stanzas
do not have syllabic patterns assigned to them. The first half of the poem is enthralled by desire and
the second half is action. These oppositions allow the speaker to discuss his appreciation for the earth.
The first half discusses the body type that goes on a specific scale. The fat ones line up on the Mars
scale (5 6) because they desire to be instantly skinnier. While the emaciated ones line up on the
Neptune scale, with the desire to instantly be fatter. Collins choose to use two extremes, Fat and
emaciated because in using their desires, he describes how they would be unable to enjoy humanely
actions on other planets. The second half of the poem relates to the opposites of desires: actions.
Squatting or wandering are things humans do on a daily basis on earth. However, the poem brings
forth how outlandish normal activities would be on the planets. Such as squatting in the wasteland of
Pluto, all five tons of you (11 12). Or wandering around Mercury wondering what to do next with your

Rainfall Essay
3.1 Average Rainfall
The suburb of Highton is positioned in the city of Geelong, Victoria, Likewise, the information that
has been collected on this suburb was obtained from the nearest weather station (Weather Station
Code 087184) and the Australian Bureau Of Metrology.
The data that was gathered highlighted the annual rainfall of this suburb to be around 520 mm. This
result indicated the dryness of the suburb of Highton. However, in comparison, the Melbourne CBD
was shown to be around 650 mm which indicated a 130 mm difference of rainfall annually.

Max Annual Rainfall 600.2 mm2
Total Roof Area x Average Annual Rainfall 299.97m2 x 520 mm= 155,984.40 L
Total Roof Area x Max Annual Rainfall 299.97 x 600.2 mm2= 180,041.99 L
3.4 Expected Water Usage
As shown in Figure 5, the average water usage for an Australian residence is around 166 L per day.
Therefore, placing Australia below the United States Of America.
Despite using less water than the USA, England set a better example as they were shown to use less
water by about a half of what Australians use on a daily basis, which is clearly shown in Figure 6.
Hence, indicating that a change is needed and that it indeed is possible to use less water on a day to
day basis.
On the other hand, due to these statistics, a family of four who lives in Victoria will consume (166 L x

The Dissection Of A Poorly Defined Concept
In searching for understanding in nursing, the dissection of a poorly defined concept often results in
subsequent reflection and action toward comprehension (Bousso, Poles, De Almeida Lopes Monteiro
Da Cruz, 2014). Greater nursing knowledge is gained through the clarification of ambiguous concepts
by exhaustive examination of particularly clinically relevant phenomenon. This knowledge can then
be later extrapolated to develop new theories or simply be reformulated to refine concepts (Bousso et
al., 2014). In analyzing quality of life (QOL), this writing attempts to reveal a more solidified and
practical definition by evaluating the concepts common themes across various literature sources. The

The dimensions were specifically chosen to allow measurement through specific indicators and
included both objective and subjective factors. The subjective factors focused primarily on perceptions
of cognitive appreciation, emotional states and the presence of meaning and purpose (Eurostat, 2015).
A bit more simply, the Global Development and Research Center defines QOL as subjective well
being that is directly correlated with the difference between hope and expectation of a person and their
immediate life experience (Global Development Research Center [GDRC], n.d.).
The United States Environmental Protection Agency defines and measures the QOL as happiness and
subjective expression of well being with a focus on life satisfaction, positive experiences and emotions
and the absence of negative experiences and emotions (Organisation for Economic Co operation and
Development [OEDC], n.d.). Finally, a systemic review of the analysis of QOL in nursing yields no
specific definition, but rather alludes to particular dimensions and facets that, when combined,
comprise QOL (Fulton, Miller, Otte, 2012). The facets mentioned include both subjective and
objective dimensions that concentrate on an individual sense of well being, personal values,
happiness, satisfaction and functioning (Fulton et al., 2012).
In healthcare, the centers for disease control define QOL as a multidimensional concept that

The Chronicles Of Narni The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is about four children discovering
an alternate universe and attempting to defeat evil (the White Witch) with the help of the Christ like
figure, Aslan. The time of the book is set during World War II in England. The four Pevensie children,
Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy go to live in a professor s house in order to escape war time. The
children soon discover Narnia, an alternate universe with talking creatures and a time zone much

One thing that Lewis wanted his readers to take from his writing was to know and understand that in
order to be virtuous, you must have God s grace (McGrath 4). Many themes from the bible are found
in the Chronicles of Narnia, but throughout The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the biggest
symbol of Christianity is Narnia s king, Aslan ( A Fairy Tale... 3). Although he is a lion, he represents
Christ in almost every way. Lewis chose to use a lion because the animal itself is said to be the king of
beasts and in the bible, Jesus is referred to as The Lion of Judah (Baehr 3). In comparison of Aslan to
Christ, it is noticeable that there are certain similarities in the way that they were both selfless leaders
of their lands. Christ s crucifixion was a big part of the novel because Aslan gave his life so that
Edmund, who had given into temptation, didn t have to; much like Christ gave his life for his people.
The next day, Aslan rose from the dead, brought his warriors back to life and defeated evil and created
a new Narnia. In the bible sense, that lines up the story of Christ s resurrection, his appearance to his
disciples, his defeat of evil and then his creation of the new heavens and the new earth ( Response:
The Seattle Pacific... 1). Although Aslan did not give his life for all as Christ did, the fact that he was
dying for an imperfect person was representative of Christ s assurance that he

Difference Between Murder And Second Degree Murder
First degree murder is defined as the killing of someone which is deliberate and premeditated.
Premeditated means to plan the killing such as waiting for the person to return home to kill them or to
poison them.
The difference between first degree murder and second degree murder is very simple. First degree
murder is a planned killing. For instants, Victoria comes home and finds her husband in bed with
Shelly. A few days later, Victoria breaks into Shelly house and stabs her to death for sleeping with her
husband. Victoria started to plan Shelly s murder once she walked on her husband cheating on her
with Shelly. Second degree murder, however, is different. An intentional killing that is not
premeditated, nor committed with heat of passion

All Quiet On The Western Front Analysis
In the novel All Quiet On The Western Front written by Erich Remarque, the protagonist Paul deal s
with the new ways of fighting in world war 1 as this war introduced multiple new ways to bring death
and violence. He needs to adapt to living in the trenches, machine gun fire, and the constant fear of a
shell landing on him. This novel portrays the ways in which living styles and weapons in war changed
warfare for the worst, drastically increasing the brutality. During world war one, the soldiers would
have to fight on the battlefield and needed to find a way to stay there without immediately dying. The
military found that digging up a system of ditches in the ground would keep the soldiers alive long
enough to fight. These ditches, named trenches, changed the men inside of them. The men would live
in some of the cruelest conditions within a base than any other previous war. Men within the trench
had to deal with a foot disease known as trench foot along with constant splinters, which both caused
major damage to feet. When Paul s within the trench heading to the hospital area, he says My thoughts
become confused. This atmosphere of carbolic and gangrene clogs the lungs, it is a thick gruel, it
suffocates (Remarque 2.37). This line says how living condition s inside trenches made soldiers
miserable with multiple uncomfortable smells and other influences. The living conditions of the trench
show how world war one had changed warfare for the worst through the increase in

A missionary can be defined as someone who is sent to spread Christianity throughout the world or do
other religious works. There have been several influential missionaries in modern day America such as
William Carey, George Müller, David Livingstone, Lottie Moon, and Amy Carmichael. These people
have dedicated their lives to reaching out to others and have inspired many people to become
missionaries. Each one of them has impacted the world in a different way. William Carey was an
English Baptist missionary. He was born on 17 August 1761 in Paulerspury, England. As a child he

the main pastor of a church in Leicester. A few years later he published an enquiry that had five

fourth part covered the dangers and struggles one might face as a missionary. The fifth part talks about
the need for a Baptist Mission Society and how it could possibly be supported. After this pamphlet

United States Involvement in the war on terrorism
The world in the modern history is faced with many crises which have been growing since the Second
World War. This has been as a result of the United States and the British military embarking on wars
against terrorism which threatens the future life of people. A series of events have been witnessed
concerning the war on crimes committed after the cold war era. For instance the continuum in the US
concerning the Truman doctrine and then the war on terrorism initiated by the former United States
president George Bush. Of great concern is how can the government control terrorism and yet on the
other hand it seems they are collaborating with other nations in production of the equipments of mass
destruction. The government officials have been involved in inspection of missiles from Iraq and the
allegation that the Clinton government helped Bosnia with military actions by recruiting people who
ended up forming the Military Islamic Network consisting mostly of Muslims (Chossudovsky).
The government developed the nuclear weapons for responding to the nuclear attacks but instead,
these weapons are used to fight those other nations with no nuclear weapons in order to stop the
conflicts on the U.S. and ensure their success. In addition the CIA creates terrorist organizations and
the same people give warning against terrorist attacks which they aided in creating leading to the

Why Is The Transcontinental Railroad Important For...
1) The Transcontinental Railroad was important, as it was the first railroad that connected both the
East and West coasts, and it made a quicker, more efficient way to transport people and goods to
different places. It cut travel time from a minimum of 3 months (and often a year)down to a week. The
transcontinental railroad was important for westward expansion for an obvious reason. It made
traveling west easier and cheaper. It also facilitated west ward expansion in more subtle, but equally if
not more important ways. The transcontinental railroad created a vast amount of jobs for people
working on the railroads as well as for people working to feed, clothe, and house these railroad
workers.
2) U.S. industry grew and agriculture expanded westward to feed the growing populations of
industrial cities. The United States was the largest free trade market in the world. Northern and
Midwestern populations grew much faster than those of the South and the expansion of the nation s
railroad system tied those two regions closely together. A large part of the industrial expansion during
the post Civil War years was based on connecting the industrial northeast with the farm and grazing
areas of the Midwest and Plains states and completing the transcontinental railroads. ... Show more

Initial literacy assessment report
For this semester of TCH 209 I am working with a second grade girl named Yainany. After taking a
few running records I found out that she is at a level H reading level which would be the equivalent of
a high first grade reader. To get to know my student I printed out a reading survey and a get to know
you worksheet. The reading survey was asking questions about what genres of books she likes, what
are some of her favorite things (books, tv shows, animals, sports, characters, jobs, activities), if
reading is fun for her, if reading is easy for her, if she reads at home, and how she likes to read. The
get to know you worksheet had her color her own person based on some of her favorite things like her
favorite color, if she likes to read, her favorite subject, the color of her eyes, and how many siblings
she has. These helped me get to know her as a reader and as a person by knowing how she reads and
what interests her. One assessment that I did with my student was three running records. I did a Level
J book, a Level I, and a Level H book. For the first book, Level J, she got an 85% which was not high
enough to be her reading level. I then went to a Level I book and she got an 92% which was still not
high enough to be her reading level. The last book I did in my running records assessment was the
Level H book and with that book she got a 95% which was high enough to be her reading level and
she does a great job reading books at that level.

Natalie Coughlin s Engagement Ring
When we think of large or impressive celebrity engagement rings, we often think of actresses, singers,
or models. While female athletes are not often known for their flashy jewelry, many of them also have
beautiful engagement rings, proving that you can be active and still enjoy gorgeous jewelry. Here are
eight great engagement rings worn by some famous female athletes.
Natalie Coughlin
Olympic gold medalist swimmer Natalie Coughlin has been married now for more than seven years,
but that does not make her ring, given to her by her husband and fellow swimmer Ethan Hall, old

Now, apparently Todd Kapostasy, a Fox Sports producer, has stolen Lipinski s heart. The couple got

Nastia Liukin
When 2008 all around gymnastics Olympic gold medalist Nastia Liukin and Matt Lombardi, a former
college hockey player, got engaged in June 2015, she was excited to show off her engagement ring.
Liukin s approximately 4 carat diamond ring features a center cushion cut diamond surrounded by a

The Importance Of Tourism And Tourism In Vietnam
The trip to Vietnam from the 16th of November to the 1st of December was an eye opener to my life
as I saw how the locals live and operate daily. This has helped myself gain a new perspective on life.
With gaining a new perspective it has helped myself understand and give direction to achieve my
future goals and personally help with figuring out a which career path within tourism and hospitality I
would like to go down. Over recent years in Vietnam tourism and hospitality impacted the local lives
which helped myself understand how they live the way they do. Travelling to diverse cities such as Ho
Chi Minh, Hoi An and Halong Bay showed me that Vietnam has different aspects on offer to help
myself understand their cultural but also the hospitality and tourism industry. The hospitality and
tourism within each city support the history of Vietnam. This increases the experience economy as
individual travel for their traditions but also to be educated about Vietnam and their past.
When visiting the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh I had the chance to meet several of their
students. Long Ngugyen and Minh Tri Phan Duy, who helped Chloe, Sarah, Rebecca and I with our
project. During the project, we learned about the tourism and hospitality industry throughout Vietnam.
Travelling to areas such as walking street which is Nguyen Hue St, Pham Ngu Lao Street and the
Sense Market from my own observations and personal experiences I could see this as tourist hot spots.

Short Term Liquidity And Operating Cash Flows
3. Short term liquidity and operating cash flows. Please be advised good cash flow systems are
necessary for effective operation in the Motor Vehicles Dealers industry. As it is expected, companies
in this industry have expensive purchases that, when combined with low turnover, can lead to liquidity
problems. Liquidity refers to the availability of cash in the near future after taking account of
immediate financial commitments (also known as current liabilities). Cash in the near future will be
available from bank deposits, cash released by sale of stocks and cash collected from customers.
Immediate financial commitments are shown in current liabilities. The first ratio of liquidity is the
current ratio, which is a simple comparison of current assets with current liabilities. As per IbisWorld,
the industry benchmark for current ratio is 1.3 to 1 (7), which means that for every dollar committed
in liabilities, companies have 1.3 in their assets. Companies which generate cash on a daily basis, such
as car retailers, can therefore operate on a lower current ratio. For our particular sample, the trend has
been very similar in the past 5 years (see graph below). Overall, AHG has presented more solvency
and liquidity than APE. *ref 2/3 Another aspect of solvency we need to look at is if the companies
have enough short term assets (without selling inventory) to cover their current liabilities. This is
particularly important in times of crisis, where short term creditors are

The Rocking-Horse Winner, By D. H. Lawrence
This story is D. H. Lawrence s most grounded prosecution of realism and his most grounded
exhibition of the contrariness of the adoration for cash and the affection for individuals. In Paul s
troubled family, his folks marriage is inadmissible. His mom is sexually baffled: She had bonny
youngsters, yet she felt they had been pushed onto her. Clearly, she feels not satisfied, but rather
disregarded. The story tends to a couple of the subjects Lawrence is most exceptional for well, some
of them in any occasion. While it does exclude the same unequivocal sexuality that made Lawrence
notorious in his day, much like Sons and Lovers, The Rocking Horse Winner focuses an impressive
sum on the association between a mother and her tyke. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

sexuality into sexual infantilism. Rather than riding his own particular stallion, image of male sexual
power, he rides a shaking horse, a movement that, in its free for all and seclusion, recommends
masturbation as opposed to satisfaction with an accomplice. To offer and to get love, the main genuine

With the ulumas desire to purify Islam from the occult, and contemplating that talisman would lead to
idolatry, surely then it would be inaccurate to conclusively claim that the occult science deteriorated
during the Mamlūk period as has been the conventional historical paradigm. Michael Dols, through an
analysis of numerous sources, has contended that the use of the occult science in Medieval Islam was
more prevalent than previously acknowledged in the scholastic field. Al Saleh corroborates with Dols,
by arguing that the continuous conquests in the name of Islam engendered an increase in Islamic
magical beliefs, because cultural encounter and exchange were inevitable. Similarly, to the refutation
of astrology, the discontentment shown towards talisman by the traditionalist implies that the practice
and belief of talisman had reached levels of apprehension for the traditionalist. Livingston
acknowledges this by highlighting that in the 14th century, a popular belief in the occult science had
been seen by some to endanger the religious foundation of Islamic Mamlūk. Furthermore, some
historians suggest that there was a belief among the amīrs in the talismanic influences of ancient
carved statues, conceivably of pharaonic origins, within the Mamlūk period. Indeed, then the use of
the talisman and the occult was part of the mainstream medieval Mamlūk culture. It may have not
been acknowledged previously, as the number of published textual sources concerning the occult
science during Mamlūk period is difficult to come across. Moreover, deliberating the visual and
material evidence discussed in this chapter, we come see that the occult manifested in many forms,
ranging from paper scrolls to jewellery. Remarkably, textual occultist treatises were far

The Law of Contract Essay
Introduction
The case study which I have chosen is Case Study 4. A contract is a legally enforceable agreement
which the courts will enforce and it is between two or more legally distinct parties which is called a
Bilateral Agreement, e.g. a buyer and a seller in a contract for the sales of goods. However it is
possible for more than two individuals to be involved in a contract e.g. partners in a firm or
shareholders in a limited company which is called a Multilateral Agreement. A legally enforceable
agreement or contract has two basic elements an offer and an acceptance of that offer. This can be
expressed in a simple formula as:
Offer + Acceptance = Contract

An invitation to treat can most effectively be explained with reference to the phrase make me an offer
which I may or may not accept . This is a marketing tactic which provokes an offer. This was accepted
by Louise it was not an offer to her it was her who made the offer to buy it. As Louise sees the advert
displayed on the shop window which is an offer to her, by believing that the price is really that low
priced of such a popular and expensive product by not wasting more time she quickly goes inside the
shop and accepts to buy the goods. But however she is told by the sales rep that this is a
misrepresentation as the advertisement is wrongly priced and it is not for £25 but is for £250.
Misrepresentation
A misrepresentation occurs when a party states a false statement of fact, or misleading conduct which
forms a contract as the other party is encouraged or induced to enter into an agreement. It is usually
after the contract has been formed that the party who relied on the statement will discover that it was
factually false. A contract could also result in being voidable in misrepresentation. It is also up to
Louise who is the victim of misrepresentation if she wants to take any steps against the company. The
innocent party which is Louise would not have entered into a contract at first place if she had known
that the statement made on the poster outside the shop window was in fact false. She also has evidence

roots of teenage rebellion, people who don t follow the norms, and have disrespect for authority. The
style of rock and roll itself is a melting pot of music, a combination of sounds that include jazz,
country, blues, ragtime, gospel, swing, classical, and ethnic music. It can be a simple variation of three
chords to a complex chromatic scale combination. It can convey emotions such as love, hate, fear,

The Grateful Dead fused country, blues, jazz, and bluegrass on electric instruments and held acid tests
where LSD was given to thousands of people and a concert was held all day. Janis Joplin was also a
major part of the psychedelic era. Blues also heavily influenced Janis, who greatly admired the female
blues singer Odetta (Kallen 65). Janis is most remembered for her heavily emotional voice in songs
such as Piece of My Heart and Ball and Chain where she sang with her face contorted, sometimes
stamping her feet, clutching the microphone with one hand, and a whiskey bottle with the other. Of all
the artists of the psychedelic era, Jimi Hendrix was the most influential. Jimi took inspiration from the
soulful guitar of blues players and developed his own style from it. Jimi was left handed and played
his Stratocaster guitar upside down while creating unearthly sounds that humbled other guitarists of
the time. Hendrix was unknown until playing at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 where he played
an amazing array of songs and then lit his guitar on fire at the end of the show (DeCurtis 133).
Although Jimi seemed like a very wild and unpredictable person on stage he was actually a focused
musician, that part of Jimi s personality is explained in this quote by Ernie Isley: The best musicians
are very observant. They hold their arms wide, willing to embrace suggestions; they study their craft,
and Jimi certainly did all that. (Lanham 102) But as

Raoul Of Cambrai And Christianity Essay
Raoul of Cambrai and Christianity Raoul of Cambrai, an old French epic, has strong ties to
Christianity despite only having several actual figures from the Church present in the story. Characters
consistently use phrases such as By God , I pray , for my faith , and numerous references to saints and
their relics in the epic linking their beliefs to Christianity. Lady Alice, Raoul s mother, Bernier, Raoul
s vassal, and Count Ybert, family member to Bernier, see Christianity as a valuable resource when
making arguments or trying to persuade someone. However, Christianity is not seen as a positive to
everyone, especially Raoul. As Raoul s feud with King Louis and his quest to take over a fief goes on,
his interactions with Christian figures and symbols illustrate his eventual downfall. So, exactly how is
Christianity depicted in Raoul of Cambrai and what is the purpose of characters faith? Christianity is
depicted as a downfall for Raoul, and the purpose of characters faith is to foreshadow. In the epic,
characters whose faith is substantial and positive often are able to foreshadow what happens. For
Raoul, whose faith is fragile, Christianity becomes his downfall to his inevitable death at the hands of
Bernier. Christianity is first depicted in Raoul of Cambrai when Raoul is baptized. This scene, when
the Bishop receives Raoul and baptizes him is one of the rare moments a member of the clergy is
present. Raoul s baptism was rather distinct in that Lady Alice, Raoul s

Intro:
The argument comes up that the Protecting the Local Business Opportunity Act (PLBOA) as last
proposed in 2015 should be passed by congress and signed into law. We are against this and we as a
team are linking with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). This bill amends the National
Labor Relations Act to allow two or more employers to be considered joint employers for purposes of
the Act only if each employer shares and exercises control over essential terms and conditions of
employment and such control over these matters is actual, direct, and immediate. Our first argument is
that it is a good business strategy for the parent company to oversee and assume responsibility of all
subset operations. Which basically is overseeing the fair labor relations, which results in happy
employees and high productivity. Our second argument argues that if a company determines your
shifts, pay cap, and working conditions, regardless of if the employee is directly employed by them,
then it should be required to assume responsibility of unionization caused by unfair labor practice,
which can be directed back to human rights. Finally our third argument the PLBOA undermines the
employee s right to collectively bargain for better working conditions, wages, etc. regarding labor
relations. Our

Light/Dark. Comfort/Despair. Love/Hate. These three pairs of words manage to sum up William
Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 and Sonnet 147, while also demonstrating the duality of Shakespeare s
heart. Sonnet 116 reveals to a careful reader the aspects of Shakespeare s concept of what ideal love is.
However, Sonnet 147 shows the danger of believing in this ideal form of love. These two sonnets
perfectly complement and clarify each other while also giving the reader insight into William
Shakespeare s life. To understand these two sonnets completely, one must first have a little

Each poem reflects the emotions that Shakespeare experiences with the duality of his love. Although
each of these poems only show one half of this duality, Sonnet 144 expresses both while giving a

loves I have of comfort and despair, (1). When used as a foundation, this opening line reveals that the
reader can expect one of the two sonnets to deal with the comfort of love while the other deals with
the despair of love. Shakespeare goes on to say, The better angel is a man right fair, / The worser spirit
a woman, colored ill. (144.3 4) which shows that he considers his young friend to be the comfort
aspect of love and his dark woman to be the despair aspect of love. Shakespeare goes on to say that
the dark woman tempted his young friend from his side. This shows that an affair has occurred
between the young man and the dark woman. Taking this poem as a basis, the reader can better
understand how Sonnet 116 deals with the comfort of love and how Sonnet 147 deals with the despair
of love. Sonnet 116 can be viewed by the reader in two different ways. It can be seen as a soliloquy by
the author written to his young friend about their friendship or it can be seen as a letter written to the
young friend about Shakespeare s view of what ideal love is. In either case, it was written after the
affair between

Allusion Of War In The Butter Battle Book
The Butter Battle Book by Dr.Seuss is a deceptively childish book about a war over what side one
should butter their bread. While a good bedtime story, anyone with knowledge of the Cold War will
immediately pick up the similarities between this book and the actual war, along with Dr.Seuss s
message behind the text. His excellent use of craft puts his view across and solidifies what he believes
about the Cold War. Dr.Seuss uses allusions, irony, and hyperboles to portray his beliefs about how
silly the Cold War really was. Dr.Seuss has written books of many colors. Books like Green Eggs and
Ham and Hop on Pop are light hearted, funny, and sometimes completely weird. The Butter Battle
Book is about two different communities torn apart by one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

During his allusions to the real world, he constantly slides in just a hint of irony that helps bring out
the main theme he s trying to pass. The first example, You just run to the wall like a nice little man.
Drop this bomb on the Zooks just as fast as you can (Seuss 49), is a crystal clear sense of irony. In this
line the leader of the Yooks tells the guard to, as a any gentleman would, calmly drop a bomb on the
enemy. This bit of irony stands out and makes one think about the actual calamity dropping a bomb
would do. The second major piece of irony is different, but has the same meaning overall, That was a
pretty sour flight that you flew. And the Chief Yookeroo has been looking for you! (Seuss 47). In this,
the lead drummer calls the Yook guard s flight a failure, but was it really? He only stepped down in
the book because if he attacked the Zooks his people would have gotten attacked as well, so it was
success in some ways. This irony does the same as the first, forces the reader to think about the
consequences of attacking with retaliation. All in all Dr.Seuss makes great use of irony to make any
reader think about the cause and effects not only in the book but during the Cold War as

Dances With Wolves Analysis
I thought the movie Dances with Wolves was a good film. I think that this was a good film since it had
a good storyline. In addition, I had thought the movies was also very interesting. I thought it was
interesting as it showed me the communication barrier between Dunbar and the Indians, the Indians
lack of knowledge on weaponry, and the perception of Indians. I also thought it was a good film, since
I had also learned a few things from it. One of those things being the perception of Indians.
The movie gave me an insight on the relationship between the US and Indian relationships as it seems
as the USA did not like the Indians. It shows this with the perception of the Indians from the
comments the white people had made toward the Indians and ... Show more content on

I feel that this movie would be a historical fiction since the film does have some historical facts and
meaning. Some parts of the movie that show historical facts would be the perception of the Indians,
the few battles, and the customs of the Indians. These things cannot fictionalized, and would require
some research.
The treatment of the native people west of the Mississippi river in the time period following the civil
war was poor. The white people wanted the Indians to be exterminated. An example of this happened
in Colorado, when some Indian chiefs had sought peace and negotiation. In this negotiation, they had
army protection, however, they were killed in their sleep. The Indians were also treated poorly as they
suffered from the white Americans racism, their belief that they owned all the land, and paternalism.
The forces at work on both of these sides were the people that had strong beliefs and were not going to
stand for anything but their beliefs. The Indians were on the west side of the Mississippi river, and
they did not want to leave their land. The white people were on the other side of the Mississippi river
and had their belief that they owned all the land. With these two groups of people with different
beliefs, this had lead to incompatible

Essay on The Easter Uprising of 1916
The Easter Uprising of 1916
The Easter Uprising of 1916 was an event that happened at the tail end of a long list of events that
would forever change Ireland. The Uprising or Rising, as some call it, took place mostly in Dublin but
was felt throughout Ireland. The point was to gain independence from Great Britain who had ruled
Ireland for the past couple hundred years. At the turn of the 19th century England believed that Ireland
had too much independence and made the Act of Union. The result was the Act of Union of 1801: the
Irish parliament voted itself out of existence and England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales were formally
politically unified for the first time (Hegarty 2). Around the time of the First World War, Ireland began

The Irish were promised the Home Rule Act, but it was taken away at the start of the Ester Uprising.
This modest promise was swept away the Easter Uprising of 1916, when a small band of rebels
paralyzed the city and the Irish Republic was proclaimed from the steps of the GPO (Hegarty).
Padhraic Pearse led about 2000 people into the Easter Revolution, only a small fraction of the people
that had lived in Dublin at the time. Most of the Irish were involved in World War I. They had little
support many Irish volunteers had joined the war effort and the rebels were perceived to be traitors to
the great cause (Hegarty). It would take more violence and rebellion against the British to bring
attention to their cause both locally and abroad.
The Easter Rising led to the arrests of approximately 3500 people. Although more than half were
released after they were questioned; many received unfair trials or no trial at all. When the news broke
to the Irish public about the treatment of the rebels, they also found out that there were 15 fifteen
secret executions, of the leaders of the Uprising. The tables began to turn away from the War to the aid
of the rebels as the truth came out. The seven signatories of the proclamation of independence (
Pearse, Connolly, Clarke, MacDonagh, MacDermott, Plunkett, and Ceannt) were all executed to the
outrage of the Irish

The Peace Corpss
I do think that United States has basically helped other countries more than we have helped ourselves.
With some research I have done regarding this question, I will have to completely agree that we help
other more than we help ourselves. With United States having great economic success, we can, and
do, give more aid to other countries than anyone else. Yes, United States takes care of its own issues
before helping the other countries, but helping others is in our culture to help other people or countries
in need. From things like fund raisers for different needs around the world, or even just charities to
help aid the people in need of it. Here are my reasoning s why I believe that the United States has
basically helped others before helping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

well. They invest in four sectorial pillars, which are: Infrastructure and energy, food and economic
security, health and other basic services, and governance and rule of law. Some of the main things of
U.S. assistance to Haiti four years after the earthquake includes things like: housing Haitians, removed
millions of rubble, created jobs at the Caracol Industrial Park in Haiti s north, made haitian national
police stronger, provided literacy instruction, and many basic health indicators.
With those reasons being said, I truly believe that America helps other countries more than it helps its

Criticical And Applied Philosophy Of Mary Wollstonecraft
Mary Wollstonecraft, born in 1759, is known as one of the world s most influential liberal, feminist
authors. With her literary works appalling the world with her radical ideas in a fairly conservative time
period. She is renowned to have her feminist, but also rational, views on equal rights and education as
all she wanted was women to not be excluded from men. The topic of this essay is Wollstonecraft s
basic theoretical and applied philosophy in relation to her role in the movement of Romanticism, her
ideas on enlightenment, and her criticisms regarding her rationalism. This essay will also discuss if I
agree or disagree in part or in whole with Wollstonecraft. Wollstonecraft s basic theoretical and
applied philosophy is based on the ideas of God, reason, sentiments of humanity, the European
Enlightenment, romanticism, universal human rights, human progress in virtue and happiness, and
more. When it comes to her moral knowledge and understanding, Wollstonecraft is not to be criticized
for being too much of a rationalist for failing to give proper place to the emotions because she bases it
on reason and does give emotions a proper place. Wollstonecraft gives a key role to the natural human
sentiments and emotions of humanity when it comes to moral perception, understanding, and
knowledge and she has a place in the movement of Romanticism as she vindicated for women s rights
at the time and she provided a transition between the Enlightenment and Romanticism. In terms of

Argumentative Essay On Affordable Higher Education
Affordable higher education has been a focal point of discussion across the United States in recent
years. Last April, Governor Andrew Cuomo spearheaded the implementation of the New York State
scholarship program Excelsior. The program is designed to increase the access and ability of NY s low
income students to obtain a college education. Scholarship applicants must have an annual household
income less than $100,000 as of their 2017 fall semester to qualify for a tuition free education. This
level of household income will increase to $110,000 in Fall of 2018 and to $125,000 in 2019. Last
year 22,000 students were awarded the scholarship.
Unfortunately drawbacks of the scholarship have revealed themselves since its creation. For instance
an applicant cannot qualify if they re not a full time student, have any gap in their education or will
not graduate in four years. An individual awarded the scholarship cannot work outside New York State
after graduation or lose their scholarship and be forced to pay back tuition in the form of a loan. ...

as of 2015. If these numbers were to hold true in New York among the 22,000 students accepted into
the program last fall 9,020 would fail to meet the requirements. Of those 12,980 who would be on
track to graduate in four years, any drawback could result in Excelsior deferring to a loan for students
whose families likely wouldn t have been able to send them to college without Excelsior in the first

Induced Abortion In The United States
The world is full of controversial issues such as abortion, same sex marriage, terrorism, the death
penalty, global warming, legalizing marijuana, healthcare, plastic surgery, illiteracy, use of stem cells,
and much more. People will continue arguing about these topics. According to studies, it shows that
four out of ten American women s pregnancies are terminated by abortion (Induced Abortion in the
United States). Sondra Forsyth, a journalist, wrote stories about three teens that got pregnant and their
process of making the decision to have an abortion or not. These three young women had to make a
difficult decision about whether to get an abortion or to keep their baby. One woman decided to keep
her baby and the other two teens decided to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, there is the medical abortion. Medical abortion, sometimes called Mifeprexâ„¢, RU 486, is a non
surgical abortion done using medication. There are two different methods of medical abortion
available: mifepristone followed by misoprostol and methotrexate followed by misoprostol.
Mifepristone is a pill that is swallowed by the patient. It interferes with a woman s ability to produce a
hormone called progesterone, which is needed for the fetus to grow. MTX or methotrexate is a drug or
injection that stops embryonic cell growth and stops from growing outside the uterus. Misoprostol is
either swallowed by the patient or placed in the vagina by the doctor. The second type of abortion is
surgical abortion, also known as vacuum aspiration. Surgical abortion is when a doctor removes a
fetus from the uterus. Ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal pregnancy that grows outside the uterus and
is often found in the fallopian tube, and it is very dangerous because it can harm a woman or threaten
her future fertility (Abortion: Which Method is Right for Me?).
In conclusion, abortion should not be legal, even though abortion may take a burden off the woman s
shoulders. Abortion should be illegal because it is the killing of an innocent human being. A baby
deserves the right to live. Not only does abortion destroy a human life, but it can also severely affect
the mother, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Life is sacred and not meant to be broken. It goes
against the sixth commandments, and the landmark case of Roe v. Wade. People should be more
responsible for their actions instead of choosing the easy way out of

I have lived in Middletown, New Jersey since day one and I hope to after college, till the day I die. No
town could ever compare to how great of a town Middletown is. If I wanted to ever live in another
town in New Jersey it would have to be so similar to Middletown. I live on a cul de sac and the name
of my street is Omega Court. I live extremely close to Middletown High School North, and I will
never walk to school, but I have walked home before. Middletown is a great environment, with safe,
quiet, and great schools/neighborhoods. I am extremely lucky to live in Middletown, but most

Quinceanera Tradition Essay
In many hispanic cultures, it is customary to have a big celebration for a young girls fifteenth birthday.
This tradition is known as a Quinceanera, Quince, or Fiesta Rosa. This tradition celebrates a young
girls coming of age. Moreover, this celebration [embraces] religious customs, and the virtues of family
and social responsibility (Quinceanera Boutique). In addition to celebrating the quinceanera, the big
event allows family to come together and just enjoy themselves. The celebration begins by having a
ceremony at church. The mass is important since it presents the Quinceanera to God and reinforces the
young girls commitment to her faith. (Quinceanera). In order to have the mass, it is important for the
Quinceanera to have been baptized, completed her communion and confirmation. The mass the

lady; the flats are changed to high heels to demonstrate the change. The last doll is also a very
important tradition. The last doll represents the Quinceanera leaving her childhood and toys behind, in
order to partake in more grown up activities. To demonstrate that she is leaving behind her childhood,
she gives the doll to her sibling or younger cousin. Another tradition is to have a mini quinceanera.

Case Study One: Anne
During the first case study, Anne uses many various brain areas and structures. I chose to focus on the
Occipital Lobe, the Hypothalamus, and the Frontal Lobe. The Occipital Lobe is used when Anne looks
outside and at the easel she is painting on. She must see the objects she is replicating as well as where
she is painting. Another brain area that Anne uses while painting is the Hypothalamus. This brain
structure motivates her to paint what she sees in her garden. The last brain area that I want to reference
is the Frontal Lobe. Anne s Frontal Lobe allows her to move her body from the window, to the easel,
and her hand from the paint, to the canvas.

  • 2. Summary Of Frames Of Reference By Jeff Wall Jeff Wall reviews his decades of practices as a photographer in his article Frames of Reference. In his prose, Wall explains how he learnt from multiple forms of art and apply essential ideas embedded in these various forms to his work of photography. He characterizes two elements in his work, the large and the representation of the nature and existence, which he extracts from the criteria of Western painting and utilize in his photograpic works. To analyze the purpose of Wall s approach, it is vital to know how his understanding of photography works and practices developed through his career. Wall aims to test the nuance of photography works and enlarge the boundary of photography by applying different concept of other art forms to it. Wall wants to make photography with qualities in other art forms that held valuable indications for aspects of photographic making. It is crucial that this combination of concepts and idea in Wall s works is different from the practice of photo collage. The documentary tradition of photography makes photography distinct from other art forms. Wall refutes the approach of blending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1998 11% of housing in Minneapolis Saint Paul were densely gentrified neighborhoods, and with time this is increasing (Wyly, et al). With higher earners entering a neighborhood, the higher the cost of housing is. One way to measure affordability is comparing the median renter s income and their affordable threshold of rent (usually 30% of their monthly income) with the percentage of available units that this renter could buy in a neighborhood. For an area to be considered affordable, 50% or more of units should be available for a median renter (CURA Housing Forum). In a University ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Role Of Women In Trifles In Trifles , Glaspell shows the oppression of women back in 1916 when the play was written. In the play, Glaspell shows the roles of both men and women. To show how men treated women, what was expected of the women, and how women overcame the patriarchal society that they were placed in. Also, Trifles having an effect on the society it was based on and how the roles of women have evolved over time. First of all, in Trifles , men acted towards the women just as they would back in 1916. The men are seen as very dominating and they have little to no respect for women (School Helper). It is shown in the play when Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale found the quilt Mrs. Wright was making and they showed it to Mr. Henderson. They wonder if she was going to quilt it or just know it! (Glaspell). When they showed Mr. Henderson the quilt, he mocked and laughed at them. Showing that he didn t care about some quilt that could have been a big piece of solving the case. Also, the men in the play push the women aside and demote the women when they try to help in the investigation (School Helper). Mr. Hale and Mr. Henderson really don t care about the things women back then were accustomed to. When Mr. Henderson asked Mr. Hale if anything was important to investigate in the kitchen, Mr. Hale said, Nothing here but kitchen things (Glaspell). Proving they don t care about trifles. Second, Susan Glaspell went into depth of the stereotypes women had in the twentieth century (Igl). That women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Lost Boys Sociology Media, including movies has been an outlet for many directors and screenwriters to express both their opinions and to illustrate the social temperature in which they lived while injecting their own views into their work. Media fossils like The Lost Boys directed by Joel Schumacher not only provide a thrilling tale for viewers, but also critiques, comments, and upholds different social norms in an amusing manner as an outlet for often controversial subjects such as peer pressure amongst young people. The Lost Boys may be a gory film, but to ignore the film s social context would be to ignore the complexity of the movie itself. Many young people today as well as in the eighties were under a siege of pressure from their peers to conform to the group s expectations. When the older brother Michael first goes into David and his friends tomb, he is blatantly pressured into drinking and performing dangerous acts that he wouldn t normally do. Michael is frequently coached by the group who even chanted his name when he becomes increasingly resistant to let himself fall off of the bridge. In the film, the protagonist, Qiu Ju, travels between the village, the district and the city several times to make the chief admit his fault of kicking the groin of her husband, Qinglai. Although the mediation concluded both her husband and the chief are wrong and the chief have to pay money for the husband s injury, what Qiu Ju requires is not money but apology, so she keeps visiting higher level officials. After the chief helped her giving birth, Qiu Ju and her family extremely appreciate for the chief and make him the most important person to invite their boy s celebration. Finally Qiu Ju and the chief s relationship gets recovered, but at this time, the chief is sent to a jail. What she wanted was just apology, yet she didn t know that modernity or the lawsuit can t give her that. In the ending scene, she stood on the road between the village and the city, which represent she is not in the traditional filiality system nor the modernized city. After all, what she wanted is in filiality system rather than in modernized system. She required an apology, which is in other word dignity. Her problem is not financial one, but emotional one. • 7. Essay on Being Unprepared for Adult Learning Many students, including myself are entering college for the first time in our lives. They experience things alien to them and have to deal with an exorbitant amount of anxiety and stress. A major stressor that stands out is learning the academic way of thinking. Reading rhetorically and writing in a formal and academic manner are terms that, until now, were entirely foreign to me. At the high school level, many students are not exposed to these processes. Plain and simple, they just don t experience this type of thinking and learning. This in turn causes an almost fight and flight response on the student s part. Many students that struggle through these concepts give themselves the opportunity to stand or fall on their own accord, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is reminiscent of Professor of Social Research Methodology at UCLA, and one time troubled student Mike Rose. He writes, I was unprepared. English prose written before the twentieth century was difficult, sometimes impossible, for me to comprehend. The kind of reasoning I found in logic was very foreign . (Rose 99) Students can sometimes feel pressured to excel in their academics but they lack in critical areas that are required to succeed. So they revert to an age old tendency to do the work, but do not really retain the information. Students stepping into their first English course may feel overwhelmed by these foreign concepts and commit an absolute academic sin, packing as much information into their brains as possible for the sole purpose of repeating it back on tests and so forth, eventually forgetting the information as time passes. Rose exemplifies this behavior in his early college days. Rose states, I went to school and sat in class and memorized more than understood and whistled past the academic graveyard . (Rose 97) He closed off any attempt to actually understand what he was supposed to be reading. Rose could not get past his prejudices towards the literature and really read into what he was supposed to be learning. This closely models what John Tagg, Professor or Art History and Comparative Literature at Binghamton University, declares when he writes of the need to learn in a qualitative way as opposed to a ... • 8. Analysis Of The Poem Earthling Billy Collins creates poems that are readable by all, and injected with humor, but has larger social implications. Collins creates a scene in a planetarium to discuss earth in relation to other planets. Collins s Earthling creates an appreciation of our life as earthlings. Billy Collins in his poem Earthling creates an appreciation for the earth. The use of polar opposites in measurable qualities, such as weight and the characteristics of planets fuels Collin s appreciation of the earth. The abstinence of rhyme scheme in this poem places a larger significance on the stanzaic structure of this poem to exhibit an appreciation of earth. The poet chooses to withstand from a rhyme scheme to create a poem that is irregular in its nature, similar to the ways in which a body is composed, of how a planet is created. The poem is split into two mimicking halves, with three stanzas each with ten lines. Each halve has 2 unrhymed quatrains and a distich (an unrhymed couplet.) The versification of this poem enforces the theme of oppositions and appreciation of earth. There are extremes in the universe, planets humans can live on and those they cannot. There is not great uniformity on the earth, which is why the stanzas do not have syllabic patterns assigned to them. The first half of the poem is enthralled by desire and the second half is action. These oppositions allow the speaker to discuss his appreciation for the earth. The first half discusses the body type that goes on a specific scale. The fat ones line up on the Mars scale (5 6) because they desire to be instantly skinnier. While the emaciated ones line up on the Neptune scale, with the desire to instantly be fatter. Collins choose to use two extremes, Fat and emaciated because in using their desires, he describes how they would be unable to enjoy humanely actions on other planets. The second half of the poem relates to the opposites of desires: actions. Squatting or wandering are things humans do on a daily basis on earth. However, the poem brings forth how outlandish normal activities would be on the planets. Such as squatting in the wasteland of Pluto, all five tons of you (11 12). Or wandering around Mercury wondering what to do next with your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rainfall Essay 3.1 Average Rainfall The suburb of Highton is positioned in the city of Geelong, Victoria, Likewise, the information that has been collected on this suburb was obtained from the nearest weather station (Weather Station Code 087184) and the Australian Bureau Of Metrology. The data that was gathered highlighted the annual rainfall of this suburb to be around 520 mm. This result indicated the dryness of the suburb of Highton. Hence, indicating that a change is needed and that it indeed is possible to use less water on a day to day basis.

The Dissection Of A Poorly Defined Concept In searching for understanding in nursing, the dissection of a poorly defined concept often results in subsequent reflection and action toward comprehension (Bousso, Poles, De Almeida Lopes Monteiro Da Cruz, 2014). Greater nursing knowledge is gained through the clarification of ambiguous concepts by exhaustive examination of particularly clinically relevant phenomenon. This knowledge can then be later extrapolated to develop new theories or simply be reformulated to refine concepts (Bousso et al., 2014). The subjective factors focused primarily on perceptions of cognitive appreciation, emotional states and the presence of meaning and purpose (Eurostat, 2015). The United States Environmental Protection Agency defines and measures the QOL as happiness and subjective expression of well being with a focus on life satisfaction, positive experiences and emotions and the absence of negative experiences and emotions (Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development [OEDC], n.d.). Finally, a systemic review of the analysis of QOL in nursing yields no specific definition, but rather alludes to particular dimensions and facets that, when combined, comprise QOL (Fulton, Miller, Otte, 2012). Many themes from the bible are found in the Chronicles of Narnia, but throughout The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the biggest symbol of Christianity is Narnia s king, Aslan ( A Fairy Tale... 3). Although he is a lion, he represents Christ in almost every way. Lewis chose to use a lion because the animal itself is said to be the king of beasts and in the bible, Jesus is referred to as The Lion of Judah (Baehr 3). In comparison of Aslan to Christ, it is noticeable that there are certain similarities in the way that they were both selfless leaders of their lands. Christ s crucifixion was a big part of the novel because Aslan gave his life so that Edmund, who had given into temptation, didn t have to; much like Christ gave his life for his people. The next day, Aslan rose from the dead, brought his warriors back to life and defeated evil and created a new Narnia. Victoria started to plan Shelly s murder once she walked on her husband cheating on her with Shelly. Second degree murder, however, is different. • 17. All Quiet On The Western Front Analysis In the novel All Quiet On The Western Front written by Erich Remarque, the protagonist Paul deal s with the new ways of fighting in world war 1 as this war introduced multiple new ways to bring death and violence. He needs to adapt to living in the trenches, machine gun fire, and the constant fear of a shell landing on him. This novel portrays the ways in which living styles and weapons in war changed warfare for the worst, drastically increasing the brutality. During world war one, the soldiers would have to fight on the battlefield and needed to find a way to stay there without immediately dying. The military found that digging up a system of ditches in the ground would keep the soldiers alive long enough to fight. These ditches, named trenches, changed the men inside of them. The men would live in some of the cruelest conditions within a base than any other previous war. Men within the trench had to deal with a foot disease known as trench foot along with constant splinters, which both caused major damage to feet. When Paul s within the trench heading to the hospital area, he says My thoughts become confused. This atmosphere of carbolic and gangrene clogs the lungs, it is a thick gruel, it suffocates (Remarque 2.37). There have been several influential missionaries in modern day America such as William Carey, George Müller, David Livingstone, Lottie Moon, and Amy Carmichael. William Carey was an English Baptist missionary. He was born on 17 August 1761 in Paulerspury, England. As a child he was known for his ability to learn languages. He even taught himself Latin. The man s son, Carey s friend, denied that his father made the comment. In 1789 Carey became the main pastor of a church in Leicester. A few years later he published an enquiry that had five different parts. In part one he used scripture in order to convince people that they had a duty as a Christian to spread the gospel throughout the world. The second part contained the history of missions. Part three was just statistics in order to show how many people need to be reached. The fourth part covered the dangers and struggles one might face as a missionary. The fifth part talks about the need for a Baptist Mission Society and how it could possibly be supported. After this pamphlet was made Carey preached a sermon about missionaries where he used his most famous quote: Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God. On October 1792 Carey, Andrew Fuller, John Ryland, and John Sutcliff participated in the founding of the Baptist Missionary Society. While looking for missionaries they could support and ways to earn funds, Carey found a medical missionary named Dr. John Thomas who was in England raising funds. Not only did they decide to ... The transcontinental railroad created a vast amount of jobs for people working on the railroads as well as for people working to feed, clothe, and house these railroad workers. 2) U.S. industry grew and agriculture expanded westward to feed the growing populations of industrial cities. The United States was the largest free trade market in the world. Northern and Midwestern populations grew much faster than those of the South and the expansion of the nation s railroad system tied those two regions closely together. After taking a few running records I found out that she is at a level H reading level which would be the equivalent of a high first grade reader. To get to know my student I printed out a reading survey and a get to know you worksheet. The reading survey was asking questions about what genres of books she likes, what are some of her favorite things (books, tv shows, animals, sports, characters, jobs, activities), if reading is fun for her, if reading is easy for her, if she reads at home, and how she likes to read. The get to know you worksheet had her color her own person based on some of her favorite things like her favorite color, if she likes to read, her favorite subject, the color of her eyes, and how many siblings she has. These helped me get to know her as a reader and as a person by knowing how she reads and what interests her. One assessment that I did with my student was three running records. I did a Level J book, a Level I, and a Level H book. For the first book, Level J, she got an 85% which was not high enough to be her reading level. Please be advised good cash flow systems are necessary for effective operation in the Motor Vehicles Dealers industry. As it is expected, companies in this industry have expensive purchases that, when combined with low turnover, can lead to liquidity problems. Liquidity refers to the availability of cash in the near future after taking account of immediate financial commitments (also known as current liabilities). Cash in the near future will be available from bank deposits, cash released by sale of stocks and cash collected from customers. Immediate financial commitments are shown in current liabilities. The first ratio of liquidity is the current ratio, which is a simple comparison of current assets with current liabilities. As per IbisWorld, the industry benchmark for current ratio is 1.3 to 1 (7), which means that for every dollar committed in liabilities, companies have 1.3 in their assets. Companies which generate cash on a daily basis, such as car retailers, can therefore operate on a lower current ratio. With the ulumas desire to purify Islam from the occult, and contemplating that talisman would lead to idolatry, surely then it would be inaccurate to conclusively claim that the occult science deteriorated during the MamlÅ«k period as has been the conventional historical paradigm. Michael Dols, through an analysis of numerous sources, has contended that the use of the occult science in Medieval Islam was more prevalent than previously acknowledged in the scholastic field. Al Saleh corroborates with Dols, by arguing that the continuous conquests in the name of Islam engendered an increase in Islamic magical beliefs, because cultural encounter and exchange were inevitable. Similarly, to the refutation of astrology, the discontentment shown towards talisman by the traditionalist implies that the practice and belief of talisman had reached levels of apprehension for the traditionalist. Livingston acknowledges this by highlighting that in the 14th century, a popular belief in the occult science had been seen by some to endanger the religious foundation of Islamic MamlÅ«k. Lady Alice, Raoul s mother, Bernier, Raoul s vassal, and Count Ybert, family member to Bernier, see Christianity as a valuable resource when making arguments or trying to persuade someone. However, Christianity is not seen as a positive to everyone, especially Raoul. As Raoul s feud with King Louis and his quest to take over a fief goes on, his interactions with Christian figures and symbols illustrate his eventual downfall. So, exactly how is Christianity depicted in Raoul of Cambrai and what is the purpose of characters faith? Christianity is depicted as a downfall for Raoul, and the purpose of characters faith is to foreshadow. In the epic, characters whose faith is substantial and positive often are able to foreshadow what happens. For Raoul, whose faith is fragile, Christianity becomes his downfall to his inevitable death at the hands of Bernier. Christianity is first depicted in Raoul of Cambrai when Raoul is baptized. • 36. The For The Local Business Opportunity Act citationmachine.net This is a really simple website that converts website URLs to APA format for our works cited page. As far as in text citations go, remember it is (author, year published). Intro: The argument comes up that the Protecting the Local Business Opportunity Act (PLBOA) as last proposed in 2015 should be passed by congress and signed into law. We are against this and we as a team are linking with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). This bill amends the National Labor Relations Act to allow two or more employers to be considered joint employers for purposes of the Act only if each employer shares and exercises control over essential terms and conditions of employment and such control over these matters is actual, direct, and immediate. Our first argument is that it is a good business strategy for the parent company to oversee and assume responsibility of all subset operations. • 40. Essay about Copmaring Shakespeare s Sonnets 116 and 147 Copmaring Shakespeare s Sonnets 116 and 147 Light/Dark. Comfort/Despair. Love/Hate. These three pairs of words manage to sum up William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 and Sonnet 147, while also demonstrating the duality of Shakespeare s heart. Sonnet 116 reveals to a careful reader the aspects of Shakespeare s concept of what ideal love is. However, Sonnet 147 shows the danger of believing in this ideal form of love. These two sonnets perfectly complement and clarify each other while also giving the reader insight into William Shakespeare s life. To understand these two sonnets completely, one must first have a little background information concerning the sequence of the Sonnets and William Shakespeare s life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each poem reflects the emotions that Shakespeare experiences with the duality of his love. Although each of these poems only show one half of this duality, Sonnet 144 expresses both while giving a further basis for the understanding of Sonnet 116 and Sonnet 147. Sonnet 144 opens with the line Two loves I have of comfort and despair, (1). When used as a foundation, this opening line reveals that the reader can expect one of the two sonnets to deal with the comfort of love while the other deals with the despair of love. Shakespeare goes on to say, The better angel is a man right fair, / The worser spirit a woman, colored ill. (144.3 4) which shows that he considers his young friend to be the comfort aspect of love and his dark woman to be the despair aspect of love. Shakespeare goes on to say that the dark woman tempted his young friend from his side. This shows that an affair has occurred between the young man and the dark woman. Taking this poem as a basis, the reader can better understand how Sonnet 116 deals with the comfort of love and how Sonnet 147 deals with the despair of love. Sonnet 116 can be viewed by the reader in two different ways. It can be seen as a soliloquy by the author written to his young friend about their friendship or it can be seen as a letter written to the young friend about Shakespeare s view of what ideal love is. While a good bedtime story, anyone with knowledge of the Cold War will immediately pick up the similarities between this book and the actual war, along with Dr.Seuss s message behind the text. His excellent use of craft puts his view across and solidifies what he believes about the Cold War. Dr.Seuss uses allusions, irony, and hyperboles to portray his beliefs about how silly the Cold War really was. Dr.Seuss has written books of many colors. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During his allusions to the real world, he constantly slides in just a hint of irony that helps bring out the main theme he s trying to pass. The first example, You just run to the wall like a nice little man. Drop this bomb on the Zooks just as fast as you can (Seuss 49), is a crystal clear sense of irony. In this line the leader of the Yooks tells the guard to, as a any gentleman would, calmly drop a bomb on the enemy. This bit of irony stands out and makes one think about the actual calamity dropping a bomb would do. The second major piece of irony is different, but has the same meaning overall, That was a pretty sour flight that you flew. And the Chief Yookeroo has been looking for you! (Seuss 47). In this, the lead drummer calls the Yook guard s flight a failure, but was it really? He only stepped down in the book because if he attacked the Zooks his people would have gotten attacked as well, so it was success in some ways. This irony does the same as the first, forces the reader to think about the consequences of attacking with retaliation. The white people wanted the Indians to be exterminated. An example of this happened in Colorado, when some Indian chiefs had sought peace and negotiation. In this negotiation, they had army protection, however, they were killed in their sleep. The Indians were also treated poorly as they suffered from the white Americans racism, their belief that they owned all the land, and paternalism. Essay on The Easter Uprising of 1916 The Easter Uprising of 1916 The Easter Uprising of 1916 was an event that happened at the tail end of a long list of events that would forever change Ireland. The Uprising or Rising, as some call it, took place mostly in Dublin but was felt throughout Ireland. The point was to gain independence from Great Britain who had ruled Ireland for the past couple hundred years. At the turn of the 19th century England believed that Ireland had too much independence and made the Act of Union. The result was the Act of Union of 1801: the Irish parliament voted itself out of existence and England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales were formally politically unified for the first time (Hegarty 2). This modest promise was swept away the Easter Uprising of 1916, when a small band of rebels paralyzed the city and the Irish Republic was proclaimed from the steps of the GPO (Hegarty). Padhraic Pearse led about 2000 people into the Easter Revolution, only a small fraction of the people that had lived in Dublin at the time. Most of the Irish were involved in World War I. They had little support many Irish volunteers had joined the war effort and the rebels were perceived to be traitors to the great cause (Hegarty). It would take more violence and rebellion against the British to bring attention to their cause both locally and abroad. The Easter Rising led to the arrests of approximately 3500 people. Although more than half were released after they were questioned; many received unfair trials or no trial at all. When the news broke to the Irish public about the treatment of the rebels, they also found out that there were 15 fifteen secret executions, of the leaders of the Uprising. There are two different methods of medical abortion available: mifepristone followed by misoprostol and methotrexate followed by misoprostol. Mifepristone is a pill that is swallowed by the patient. It interferes with a woman s ability to produce a hormone called progesterone, which is needed for the fetus to grow. MTX or methotrexate is a drug or injection that stops embryonic cell growth and stops from growing outside the uterus. Misoprostol is either swallowed by the patient or placed in the vagina by the doctor. The second type of abortion is surgical abortion, also known as vacuum aspiration.
