I was responsible for the operational and financial management of the reablement
service within the borough. I was also responsible for recruiting and supervising staff
across a multidisciplinary team as well as deputising for the service manager in their
absence. I managed a budget of approximately 2.5 million and authorised invoices
that fell within my scheme of delegation. I led on ensuring that the service was
compliant with CQC regulations and acted within the legislative and policy context by
ensuring that community care assessments were robust and signed off, that service
users were reviewed in a timely manner and any clinical or practice governance issues
were resolved appropriately. I developed a robust screening process for all the
referrals and was the on call manager, adjudicating on complex cases that the
programme managers were unable to make decisions on.
April 2011 – October 2011 Team Manager. Intermediate Care/Step
Down. Bracknell Forest Council
I led on restructuring the Intermediate/Rehabilitation Care Unit and was responsible
for the operational and financial management of the service. I managed a multi-
disciplinary team made up of health and social care staff. A key aspect of the role
required that I be responsible for ensuring the that admission and discharge processes
were robust and provision of rehabilitation services for users with enduring mental
illness, elderly and physically frail was seamless upon discharge. I was also
responsible for carrying out provider inspection visits on behalf of the local authority,
ensuring that they were compliant with regulatory bodies. Supervision, recruitment
and induction of staff.

Within this role I managed a restructure of the service to ensure that it was compliant
with the legislative and policy context. I was responsible for the financial and
operational management of 13 registered homes and House Managers within the
Learning Disabilities Service. This included carrying out inspection visits with view
to monitoring compliance and ensuring that the houses were operating at their
optimum, thus leading and overseeing services in the learning/physical disabilities
and mental health section of the Adults Health and Wellbeing Directorate. I led on
development and implementation of long and short term placements as well as
monitoring and reviewing service users. I also chaired the Community Care Funding
Panel, managing a budget of approximately £3 million.

This role entailed operational management of the service by ensuring shifts are
covered adequately, carrying out risk assessments on service users using the person
centred approach as well as that the service was adhering to government legislation by
embedding best practice within the social care setting. I was also responsible for
liaising with hospital team, inputting and retrieving information from “cold harbour”
system and all general office duties.

Community Medway
I was responsible for the operational management of social care provision across 80
services in Medway, ensuring robust systems were for recruitment and selection of
staff, training as well as ensuring that assessments and reviews were carried out
effectively and were congruent with the eligibility criteria. I managed a budget of £3
million and was accountable to the Chief Executive Officer of the organisation for
ensuring that services operated within set budget. I was directly responsible for
tendering for services such as, supporting people, registration of services with CQC,
domiciliary care for mental health, substance misuse sensory impairment,
physical/learning disabilities user group. I acted on behalf of the service by attending
internal and external meetings with stakeholders, thus developing effective
relationships with varied organisations such as, local authority, health authority,
housing associations and voluntary organisations.
My role also entailed providing front-line care services for complex cases where users
had mental health, substance misuse, learning disability needs as well as ensuring that
vulnerable adults were protected through the process of assessment case formulation,
planning and implementation of care plans.

I was originally brought in to reconfigure a mental health service from a supported
housing scheme to a registered care provider. Following this i was responsible for the
financial and operational management of the service, ensuring that the service
operated within their budget and that they were compliant with the commissioned
performance indicators. I was directly responsible for ensuring that staff kept abreast
of new developments in legislation, policy and practice, as well as ensuring that any
changes to policy or legislation were reflected in practice. I developed effective
relationships with other agencies including the Local Authority, Housing Associations
and other voluntary organisations. I facilitated timely hospital discharge by attending
CPA meetings, applying for appropriate funding for service users. My managerial role
encompassed recruitment, training, supervision, appraisal and development of staff. I
also prepared rotas for staff and managed the on-call system for the services and
attended relevant meetings on behalf of the service.

Southside partnership was a project whose function was to support Afro-Caribbean
clients with mental illness and homeless needs. I was directly responsible for
restructuring a day centre to a resource centre and the financial and operational
management of the service within the new structure. This included recruitment and
selection of two deputy managers and 10 project staff through regular supervision,
annual appraisal and provision of training for individual development. I also carried
out front-line care work assessing and formulating care plans for service users with
severe and enduring mental illness, older adults and service users with learning
disabilities. Developing effective relationships with other agencies including the
local authority, health authority, housing associations and other voluntary
organisations. Within this I also ensured that staff kept abreast of new developments
in legislation, policy and practice and how it may affect the organisation. Maintaining

In July 2002, I started as a project worker, key working clients, co-ordinating shifts,
attending reviews and CPA’s, mental health tribunals etc. In August 2002, I was
appointed as Senior Project Worker with additional responsibilities of recruiting and
supervising 4 staff. I was promoted to Deputy Manager with the responsibility of
supervising 10 staff members in December 2002. This role involved attending
meetings with external agencies, liaising with stakeholders, managing a 6 bed unit for
mentally disordered offenders. I facilitated hospital discharge by applying for funding,
attending CPA discharge meetings, follow up plan, front-line service for the care of
mental health, older people, learning disability, dual diagnosis etc by carrying out
their needs assessment.
In May 2003, I became the Project Manager for a 15 bed unit and floating support
units (high support-mentally disordered offenders). This was a new project that I set
up and involved refurbishment; staff recruitment, selection and induction;
implementing systems; dealing with referrals, front line service such as assessments
thereby reporting to the care team etc; attending meetings; staff supervision and
training (currently 15 members of staff excluding locum staff). Managing the on-call
system and preparation of staff rotas. Carrying out health and safety checks. I was
also responsible for the management of the Outreach Team which consists of 5
projects and 2 members of staff from the maintenance team. Responsible for the
annual preparation of budget of 1.2million pounds. Monitoring and controlling
expenditure expending against budget and to ensure that the projects operates within
the set budget and acted as a deputy in the absence of the Services Manager.
