This document discusses the history and evolution of feminism through three waves. The first wave in the late 19th/early 20th century focused on legal rights like voting and property ownership. The second wave in the 1960s-70s aimed to radically change society and culture by critiquing patriarchal systems. Second wave feminists believed gender was socially constructed. The third wave from the 1990s addressed limitations of previous waves by recognizing diversity among women. Art history has also evolved, from ignoring or objectifying women, to critiquing the "male gaze" and elevating women artists.
