Management of Broilers
1)Cage preparation
 Cleaning- pen and other equipment
 Dusting/ Web removal
 Disinfection done 3 days before arrival of
chicks
 New litter material add
 Equipment testing
 Arrival of chicks
2)Brooding management
 Paddy husk was added to the cages as a litter (thickness of
the paddy husk- 3to 5 cm)
 Adjust the lighting system
- Provide light whole day during the brooding period
3) Space requirement
Total cage area = 25ft2
Number of birds=25
Space per bird = 25ft2/25= 1ft2
Space required for one bird is satisfied in this cage .
FeedersDrinkers
4)Feeders and Drinkers
Feeders and drinkers were adjusted to the
bird’s back height
5) Litter management
 Paddy husks were used as litter materials. At the
first day 5cm deep litter was prepared; with the
growth of the birds litter depth was also
increased.
 Stir the litter daily to avoid cake formation.
 Replace wet litter around the drinkers.
 Remove the full litter twice a week.
 25-30% moisture content is ideal
To control temperature
13
•As the heat source in the pen 60W bulb
was used
•Brooding period – whole day
•After Brooding –only at night
6)Lighting
7)Administration of medicine
Vitamin B administration with water.
 Coccid administration with water to control
the coccidiosis.
Chick tonic supply
as a liquid dietary
supplement.

Problems
 Fatigue or Stress among birds
• Due to higher growth rate of broilers, they
show fatigue in high temperatures.
• Also the high humid condition in tropical
climate increases that.
• Special care should be taken:
 Provision of cool water frequently.
 During day time remove the artificial light provided in
the cage.
 Supply vitamins according to the needs of the birds.
 Supply enough space for birds.

  • 3. Introduction Broiler chicken Fast growth rates & Higher feed conversion ratio Sound management practices are important Life span:- 28-42 days (depends on strain) Raised specifically for meat production. Usually grown as mixed-sex flocks in large sheds under intensive conditions.
  • 4. Arrival of chicks  Strain-Cobb 500  Hatchery –Our Lady of Loudes Poultry Breeding Farm Pvt Ltd.  Date of handovering- 16th of November 2018  Number of day old chicks received-25  Initial total weight-3.77 Kg  Initial average weight- 0.1508kg  Price of one chick- Rs.125/=
  • 5. Broiler management practices Cage preparation Brooding management Space management Feeding and watering Litter management Lighting Administration of medicine Weighing Slaughtering and processing
  • 6. Cleaning & disinfection of the pen End of brooding adequate Space was given Broiler starter(0-3 wks) Broiler finisher (3-5wks) Brooding Arrival of chicks Starter Ration Clean water With Chick tonic+ glucos Processing Finisher Ration Litter management Supply water 6
  • 7. Management of Broilers 1)Cage preparation  Cleaning- pen and other equipment  Dusting/ Web removal  Disinfection done 3 days before arrival of chicks  New litter material add  Equipment testing  Arrival of chicks
  • 8. 2)Brooding management  Paddy husk was added to the cages as a litter (thickness of the paddy husk- 3to 5 cm)  Adjust the lighting system - Provide light whole day during the brooding period
  • 9. 3) Space requirement Total cage area = 25ft2 Number of birds=25 Space per bird = 25ft2/25= 1ft2 Space required for one bird is satisfied in this cage .
  • 11. Feeders and drinkers were adjusted to the bird’s back height
  • 12. 5) Litter management  Paddy husks were used as litter materials. At the first day 5cm deep litter was prepared; with the growth of the birds litter depth was also increased.  Stir the litter daily to avoid cake formation.  Replace wet litter around the drinkers.  Remove the full litter twice a week.  25-30% moisture content is ideal
  • 13. To control temperature 13 •As the heat source in the pen 60W bulb was used •Brooding period – whole day •After Brooding –only at night 6)Lighting
  • 14. 7)Administration of medicine Vitamin B administration with water.  Coccid administration with water to control the coccidiosis. Chick tonic supply as a liquid dietary supplement.

  • 40. Problems  Fatigue or Stress among birds • Due to higher growth rate of broilers, they show fatigue in high temperatures. • Also the high humid condition in tropical climate increases that. • Special care should be taken:  Provision of cool water frequently.  During day time remove the artificial light provided in the cage.  Supply vitamins according to the needs of the birds.  Supply enough space for birds.
