In India, broiler chicken
raising is one of the most
profitable animal ventures.
Broiler farming can range
from a small-scale chicken
operation to a large-scale
industrial operation.
Scope of Broiler
farming in India
In terms of broiler production, India is the
world's fifth largest producer. Farmers no
longer have difficulty marketing broilers since
numerous corporate organisations have
provided them with a proper growing
environment. There are various institutes that
offer entrepreneur training. Furthermore,
because broilers are given such a high priority
in national strategy, there appears to be
plenty of room for growth.
Broiler Chicken Breeds

Dual purpose
broiler breeds
Since broiler breeds are reared chiefly for meat purposes they are divided into 2 categories:
Commercial broiler
breeds
Commercial
broiler breeds
They are reared for the chicken meat alone and
are slaughtered when they attain 6-8 weeks of
age. There are genetically modified commercial
broiler breeds available. These are modified
genetically to produce meat rather than egg.
Such breeds have increased meat production
and a higher conversion rate.
Dual purpose
broiler breeds

Breeds that are raised for both eggs and
meat are known as dual purpose breeds. The
majority of them are of the 'backyard' sort.
They have a larger physique, are self-
sufficient, and are resilient. The shells of the
eggs they lay are brown in hue. Rhode Island
Red, New Hampshire, White Plymouth Rock,
Gramapriya, Red Vanaraja, and others are
examples of this breed.
Design of a Poultry House
The houses must be built in a north-south
orientation. They would be exposed to the
sun if built in an East-West direction. It is
preferable to create the home out of
locally available resources such as mud,
bamboo, and so on than than investing in
supplies for the coop. Breeds, feed, and
other items can be purchased with the
money invested.
