Bringing it all together! Building a citywide intelligence hub to support the development of a place-based joint strategic needs assessment. Presentation to the Local Area Research and Intelligence Association (Laria) Annual Conference, 13 May 2019.
The Report analyzes from a human development perspective the opportunities and constraints that today face Egypt’s sizeable youth population, where 25 percent of Egyptians are between the ages of 18 and 29. It examines the role of youth in Egypt’s development process looking at issues including education, health, gender, poverty, employment, housing, and participation in society. The Report also showcases success stories of youth-centred initiatives, programmes, and projects, calling for greater consultation and communication between young people, the Government and civil society. In conclusion, the Report highlights nine main messages to ensure youth’s inclusion and full participation in society.

What do Young people care about in Politics? My ManifestoBite The Ballot
What do Young people care about in Politics?
My Manifesto is not a representative sample of
the youth vote in the UK. Our resources were
limited, and as such many hurdles were met
along the way – however, over 5000 young
people, most of whom were not previously
interested or engaging in politics at all, have
helped shape this booklet through surveys,
focus groups and our Rock Enrol national tour.
It is built with their life experiences, our
experiences in the sector, and the experience
of our collaborators, in mind.
We hope more than anything that this is food
for thought, and can inspire everyone to see
the true value of the youth vote.
Bite the Ballot aims to encourage young
people to make informed decisions at the
ballot box. We want to inspire young people
to take ownership of their individual and
collective futures and become the generation
that champions change in politics.
We aspire to reverse the pattern of poor
electoral turnout, and in giving young people
a voice, we hope to make their votes and
opinions count in the political arena.

The State of the World’s Children 2014 In Numbers: Every Child Counts highlights the critical role data and monitoring play in realizing children’s rights. They make change possible – by identifying needs, supporting advocacy, gauging progress and holding duty bearers to account. Making the possible real is up to decision makers.

The city’s Family Hubs is a place where children,

to identify and provide early intervention to
vulnerable families.
A Universal Credit working group and a Welfare
Reform working together group brings together
advice agencies working to support the most
vulnerable across the city to share updates,
learning and collaborate on best practice.
The Time Union gives an opportunity for adults in the
city to share their time and skills with one another.
Lots of examples... however growing greater capacity for greater
social action requires greater connectivity.
There are opportunities to: make social action more visible; shift to
an enabling leadership style; do more to improve connectivity; pool
engagement resources e.g. out of hospital work and Council’s social
care.
Have we really invested enough resources to enable our
communities to do more?

However people feel increasingly unsafe –
particularly young people
Majority of residents live within
a 20-minute walk of shops,
public transport, parks, pubs,
GP, place of worship
House prices in the city are
lower than the regional
average... but rent is slightly
higher.
At 74%, fewer adults feel safe in the city.
And amongst young people, only 17% feel
safe in the city.
This may reflect the national and local
surge in recorded violent crime – as well
as the effects of social media coverage.
Volunteers from a

The local library
improved perceptions
of a local park: bringing
books, maintaining a local presence
and keeping out gangs.
To address County Lines, substance
misuse, knife crime and criminal
exploitation, the city needs to provide
more opportunities
for people to shape
services (e.g. young people, people with
lived experiences).
The city is
developing a
public health
approach to tackling knife crime.
It also needs to make better use of
social media to engage young people as
well as young families.

16. Healthandwellbeing
Life expectancy in Coventry remain consistenly below
England but healthy life expectancy is similar to England.
Health outcomes are worse in the most deprived areas, where
people not only live shorter lives, but spend a bigger portion of
their years in poor health, and are more likely to die of
preventable causes.
A&E attendance rates are not out of the ordinary BUT
vulnerable groups appear to be relatively heavy users of
emergency admitted care services
Coventry falls behind national levels in screening and
vaccinations: this is important to shift focus onto
prevention.
National data suggests that between 2012-2014 and 2015-
2017, life expectancy between the rich and poor further
increased. In particular, there was a decrease in life
expectancy for females in poorer areas – resulting in a
widening of inequality in life expectancy gap amongst
females (7.4 years), although the gap for males (9.4 years)
remain larger.
Early mortality

Vulnerable groups living in Coventry (i.e. young people,
older people, people with mental health / behavioural risk
issues) appear to be relatively heavy users of emergency
admitted care services when compared both nationally and
regionally.
Population vaccination coverage for a significant number of
vaccinations are lower in Coventry than
regionally/nationally.
Cancer screening, HIV testing, genital herpes diagnosis and
STI diagnosis/testing also appear to trail
regionally/nationally.
It is important to consider the
whole social gradient –
continue looking at the most
deprived areas, but also
engaging less deprived areas.Building a network to help
them stay in touch and help
residents access them.
A lot of community initiatives
and activities are happening.
