A SMALL LEAK CAN SINK A GREAT SHIP
Memory plays an important role in making an Android application famous. Lesser the memory requirement, the application will run faster on the Android ecosystem.
Android ecosystem tries to keep as many applications in memory as possible to enable quicker & smoother switching between applications and tasks, keeping a device feel “snappy” to the end user.
So, the lesser the memory requirement, the faster the app will run on a device.
So to enhance the user experience and to strengthen the Android ecosystem, memory pressure will be directly proportional to app stability, thus bringing memory leaks into the picture.
High memory leaks lead to sluggy apps or skipping frames during its execution or even termination of your application in the middle of critical work. And finally, you may end up with a crash report that doesn't appear to be memory related.
Most developers do not focus on memory leaks till they are noticeable due to ANR / Out of memory errors, at which point they require a major rewrite. During development and testing, using tools such as LeakCanary can help you detect and resolve memory leaks.
But now it's time to explore LeakCanary 2 & Integration with a dashboard like Firebase to analyse memory pitfalls for apps. Just a simplified way to detect memory leaks during development and testing automation.
How to prioritise bugs by the collection of all memory leaks in a dashboard (Not all bugs are worth fixing. Only fix the ones that matter.
So let's fix the leak in this great ship to sail high !!

Metadata and archival discoverability / Getaneh Alemu (Solent University)CILIP MDG
Metadata plays a key role in describing and enhancing archival collections. This presentation covers the standards, metadata elements and tools chosen to describe two unique archival collections at Solent University Library. Using the International Standard Archival Description (General) (ISAD (G)), as a framework for the creation and management of archival descriptions, EAD as a serialisation format and the Jisc’s Archives Hub Editor as an application, the archival works of Philip Mackie and Ken Russell were described. A decision was made to comply with ISAD(G)’s mandatory elements such as Reference code, Title, Name of Creator, Dates of Creation, Extent of the Unit of Description and Level of description. Other metadata elements were also identified to record context, provenance, and access points. Because of this work, the library saw noticeable increase in the interest of its archival collections both within and outside the university. This presentation includes a step-by-step explanation of how the Archives Hub Editor was used to describe the works of Philip Mackie and the works of Ken Russell which includes scripts, photographs, scripts, correspondence, and other documents.

The document discusses object-oriented programming concepts including:
1. Classes define common attributes and behaviors for objects through templates, while objects are unique instances of classes with specific attribute values.
2. An object bundles both state in the form of data/attributes and behavior through functions/methods.
3. The advantages of the object-oriented approach include focusing first on data structure and encapsulating data within objects, which reduces effects of changes and isolates errors.
Roll out of a LMS (Moodle) in a secondary School Nathan Hutchings
This document outlines the steps taken to roll out a learning management system (LMS) called Moodle at a secondary school over four years. It discusses installing Moodle, creating course categories and courses, setting up user groups for classes, assigning user roles, uploading student accounts, and encouraging teachers to create and upload learning content. The key aspects are thorough training for teachers, one-on-one support for those struggling, and promoting successes to encourage continued use of the new LMS.
During this workshop, participants will learn how to use various tools in Blackboard 9.1 to support different learning styles, including SafeAssign, Assignments, Journals, Blogs, Wikis, Videos, and Discussion Boards. The presenter provides examples of how to use each tool and potential assignments involving the tools.
Records Management for Microsoft Teams and GroupsRecordPoint
Microsoft Teams and Groups provide a powerful solution for cross-silo collaboration. Yet, these tools can create a challenge for records management. How can we maintain a manageable file plan and compliance strategy when anyone can provision a workspace? In this presentation, we will discuss compliance features provided in Office 365 for Microsoft Teams and how you can use them to manage Teams and Groups content for compliance purposes.
The document describes eLESOFT, an open source learning management software created by students to design and manage online courses. It allows administrators to manage users, courses, and content while teachers can add lessons, quizzes, and assignments. Students can access materials, submit assignments, and view their grades. The software uses Java technologies like servlets and JSP for platform independence and security. It is intended to provide a low-cost alternative to commercial LMS with an intuitive interface.
Standards (or lack thereof) in Institutional Repositories. Presentation for t...Sarah Shreeves
This document summarizes some of the challenges faced by institutional repositories in managing metadata. It notes the diverse types of materials and lack of standardized metadata practices across disciplines. The repository discussed relies on Dublin Core and has few required metadata fields. Controlled vocabularies are not used and metadata quality and consistency can vary. The document outlines some efforts to address these issues, such as developing shared subject terms and reusable metadata templates for collections.
Blackboard Learn is a student-centered learning management system (LMS) that provides tools to support learning. It features a global navigation menu for easy access to course materials and grades. It also offers notifications, collaborative spaces for communication, and mobile access. The "My Blackboard" feature consolidates critical information in a simple format to avoid visiting multiple areas of the LMS. It includes profiles, connections to other users, posts from all courses, and centralized grades. Blackboard Learn supports features like wikis, blogs, and discussions to enable active collaboration. It also improves teaching tasks through real-time feedback, easy content and assessment management, and discussion boards.
LOR Characteristics and ConsiderationsScott Leslie
The document summarizes the findings of a research project that evaluated 6 different learning object repository (LOR) products. It discusses some of the issues with LORs, such as their immaturity as a technology and market. It provides high-level summaries of the 6 products reviewed, noting their main strengths and weaknesses. Overall, it finds the products generally support search/browse but lack features like syndication, community/evaluation, and content aggregation. It concludes that the best LOR solution depends on how the problem is defined and what existing systems are in place.

Ask Not What AI Can Do For You - Nov 2023 - Slideshare.pptxD2L Barry
This document discusses the potential roles of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. It begins with a survey asking readers about their role, experience with distance education and AI tools. It then discusses how AI could be used to assist educators by automating certain repetitive tasks like writing quiz questions, lesson plans, letters of reference, and grading assignments. This would allow educators to focus on relationship building and creative thinking. The document also discusses concerns about AI and argues it is best used to enhance rather than replace human roles. It shares D2L's views that learning is a human experience that can be supported by technology.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Create a LOR. Riverland has two types:
Organization - all faculty at Riverland are able to publish to it and
share learning objects
Department – only faculty teaching courses within that department
have access and can share learning objects
For each, you need to establish Trusts, which
controls who has access
Trusts can be based on existing roles or customized
Department – by restricting it to a particular department, it will only
be visible to instructors of courses in that department
