In this document, Jordan Wardle evaluates their remake music video of the song "Breezeblocks" by Alt-J. Some aspects of the video went well, such as the editing fitting the pace and tone of the music. However, filming the scenes was difficult due to limitations, and some clips needed to be re-recorded or cut due to issues like shaking or blurriness. If doing the project again, Jordan would plan the filming more carefully to avoid issues that wasted time during editing.

Our groupresearchedBreezeblocksbyAlt- Jandfoundoutthe song wasabout a man whohad killed
a womenwhokidnappedhiswife.The actual videowasinrewindwhichmade youmisunderstand
the story until the end.Idecidedtochange the story slightlysothatthe man wasmurderinghiswife.
I didthisbecause itmade it| easiertounderstandandstill workedwiththe song.Iplayedthe scenes
ina normal manner(withoutrewind) asthenitwouldnotconfuse the audience. Lookingat
commentsof the actual musicvideoIsaw that most people didnotunderstandthe storyline well;
thiswas one of my reasonsto change it.
In my remake of the song“Breezeblocks”by
Alt- J, some thingswentwell andsome
unfortunatelydidnotgoasplanned.
Aspectsof the musicvideothatwentwell
are thingslike the editingaspect.The edited
videodidfitintothe songwell,forexample
whenthe songwas calmso was the footage
and whenitbecame fasterpacedthe video
became more violentandactive.After
editingthe entire videoitdidlooklikea
musicvideoandnot justa bunchof clips.
Certainpartsof the editingwentbetter
than othersforexample Ireallylikedthe
flashingof the victimwhich didfitintothe
style of the songat that pointandalsothe endingasthe screenwentblack.Thiswasto add
suspense andgetthe audience wonderingwhatisgoingtohappen andjustas the last noise was
aboutto be made the scene poppedupandthendisappearedstraightafter.ThisIthinkreally
workedwell asitfittedwiththe musicwell. The premiereimage wasaprintscreen;thisshowedthat
once the songgot to certainparts the musicthe videostartedtoflashand or wentblackdepending
on if there wassilence.The Image of the deadvictimhada colourcorrectionthat I addedandmade
myself.Igave ita red tint to showbloodandanger,as redismost commonlyassociatedwiththese
emotions.

From lookingatthe peaksinthe musicmedia
sectionyoucan tell thatthe song became faster
pacedand louder,atthispoint I usedall the fight
scenesasit workedwell withthe music.Itwould
not workwell if Ihad the fightscene whilstthe
musicwas quietasit wouldnotmatch.There was a
brief chase scene alsoandthiswas alsousedwhen
the song wasfast passedaswe were movingfaster
comparedto the sad, pastscenes.Throughoutthe
videoIkeptusingthe reddeathscene as I thought
it wouldkeepremindingthe audienceonthe murdererandto helpthemunderstand.The verylast

scene wasthe endingwhere I(the murderer) hitAlesha(victim) onthe headwithabreezeblock.This
lookednice asthe endingof the musicfinishedwithasuddenbangandI usedthis as the noise of
the breezeblockshittingthe victim.Ilikedhow thislookedandalthoughitmeanthavingabrief
blankscene itstill lookednice.Thisblankscene however lookednice andIthoughtitadded
emphasis tothe importance of the followingscene.
Some thingshoweverdidnotgoto plan.The recordingof the sceneswasdifficultaswe couldnot
have anyone inthe scenesthatwere nota part of our group (teacherswalkingpastetc.).Alsosome
sceneswere blurredandthese neededtobe re-recordedandalsosome were shaky.These clipsI did
not use inmy videoasI believeitwouldmake itlookworse soIdecidedtocut the song shorter.
WhenI cut the song I didit soit doesnot feel likeitisthe middle of the videobutthenendandthis
wentwell howeverIthinkinthe future Iwouldtryto get more clipsso I wouldnotneed tocut it and
use the entire song. There were some minorthingsthatdidnotwork like whenwe filmedAlesha
runningthrougha door,we did nottake intoaccount that the glass doorwouldgive areflectionof
boththe cameraand the personusingitin shot.
If I were todo thisagain,I wouldtake more care inthe capturingof certainclipssowe will nothave
to re-recordit,wastingtime thatcouldbe spentonother clipsof editing.Iwouldmake sure you
wouldnotbe able to see anyreflectionsof the camerateamby changingthe angle of the camera
and alsothe positionof the team.DoingthisI wouldalsoneedtotake intoaccount the sunas we
can’t have the sunsglare in the wayof the camera. I wouldalso make sure whenfilmingtomake it
stable andnot shaky. The editingwentwell howeverwe didnothave alot of time to editas mostof
it wasspentre-recordingwhichthenmeantitwasrushed. Iwouldtake more care in the original
filmingtomake sure thatthisproblemwouldnotoccur again. I wouldmake sure I planmore
effectivelyandschedulewhatdifferentscenesthatare goingtobe usedsothat I wouldknow
exactlywhatiscomingnextandmake sure thatthe whole songwouldbe able tobe accompaniedby
video.
