Hunger is the world's top health concern, killing more people annually than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. Over 840 million people suffer from malnutrition according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. Three-quarters of hungry people live in rural areas, and malnutrition causes over 3 million child deaths each year. Several organizations work to alleviate hunger including Stop Hunger Now, The Hunger Project, and Food for the Hungry which take grassroots and emergency relief approaches. While the number of undernourished people has declined from over 1 billion in 1990 to 868 million in 2012, hunger remains a severe global problem.
