3. Introduction
Action Against Hunger(AAH) is a global humanitarian organization that takes
decisive action against the causes and effects of hunger.
Their staff of nearly 8000 people served 14 .7 million people in 50 countries
last year.
They dedicated as much of their funding as possible to their lifesaving
humanitarian programs.
In 2015, the organization spent $0.93 of every donated dollar on program
activities
4. Introduction
About 815 million people go to bed hungry every night, and one in three children in low- and middle-
income countries suffers from chronic undernutrition. Nearly half of all child deaths worldwide are
from causes related to undernutrition, even though it’s:
1. PREDICTABLE: AAH knows where and when to expect acute undernutrition
2. PREVENTABLE: AAH knows how to help children stay healthy
3. TREATABLE: Community-based outpatient programs and therapeutic ready-to-
use foods can help save millions, and just $45 can provide a child with lifesaving
treatment
They know how to save undernourished children. However, they might not be able to reach them.
5. History
For almost 40 years, across nearly 50 countries, they have led the global fight
against hunger. They have saved the lives of children and their families. They
are there for them before and after disaster strikes, enable people to provide
for themselves, see their children grow up strong, and for whole communities
to prosper. They constantly search for more effective solutions, while sharing
their knowledge and expertise with the world. They push for long-term change
and will never give up, until the world is free from hunger.
6. Impact
In 2016, AAH improved access to food and income for 2.6 million people
around the world. They also managed and reduced the risk of disaster for 217,
635 people. Examples of their impact in improving food security and
livelihoods include:
117,936 people in South Sudan
331,670 people in Malawi
198,138 people in Iraq
