1. Bowling Alone Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic "Bowling Alone" presents a unique set of challenges, as it requires
a comprehensive understanding of Robert D. Putnam's seminal work and the broader social
issues it addresses. The essay necessitates a careful examination of the decline in social capital,
the impact of individualism on community engagement, and the various factors contributing to
the phenomenon of "bowling alone."
To start, one must delve into Putnam's arguments and analyze the evidence he presents to
support his claims. This involves critically evaluating the statistical data, case studies, and
historical examples that form the foundation of Putnam's thesis. Additionally, it requires a
nuanced exploration of the cultural and societal shifts that may have led to the observed decline
in social connectedness.
Furthermore, writing an essay on this topic demands the ability to connect Putnam's ideas with
broader sociological concepts, such as social cohesion, civic participation, and the role of
technology in shaping modern communities. This interdisciplinary approach adds complexity to
the task, as it necessitates a synthesis of ideas from sociology, political science, and cultural
studies.
Addressing counterarguments and alternative perspectives is another layer of difficulty.
Effective essays on "Bowling Alone" should not only present Putnam's viewpoint but also
engage with critiques and alternative theories. This requires a thorough literature review and the
ability to weigh the strengths and weaknesses of competing perspectives.
Moreover, the essay must be structured in a coherent and logical manner. The writer needs to
organize the content in a way that allows for a smooth flow of ideas, starting with an
introduction that sets the stage, followed by well-organized body paragraphs, and concluding
with a thought-provoking summary.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Bowling Alone" demands a combination of research skills,
critical thinking, and the ability to synthesize information from various disciplines. It is a task
that requires a deep understanding of the topic, the capacity to analyze complex social issues,
and the skill to communicate these ideas effectively in writing.

4. Functional Properties Of The Soy Protein
Abstract: Functional properties of the soy protein need to improve to have better
applications in food industry. Alkali extracted and acid precipitated soy protein
isolate (SPI) was glycosylated using D glucose (G) and Xanthan gum (X) via
Maillard reaction to improve solubility. The effects of SPI to G and SPI to X ratios
(SPI:G = 2:1, 1:1, and 1:2; SPI:X = 100:1 and 10:1) and incubation time (0, 6, 12, and
24 h) on the solubility and functional properties of glycosylated SPI were
evaluated. The SPI:G ratio of 1:2 yielded a maximum degree of glycosylation of
71.1%. The solubility of SPI after glycosylation significantly increased (P 0.05) at
pH 4.0 8.0 compared to SPI alone. Although the emulsion stability of glycosylated

In the food industry, soybean protein has wide range of applications especially in the
processed foods (meat, milk, beverage, and bakery products), due to its nutritional
and functional benefits (Liu 1999). The functional properties of proteins such as
solubility, gelation, emulsification, foaming, and viscosity are playing a major role
in the food systems. It is a common practice to modify those functional properties for
effective application to improve food flavor, texture, color, and storage stability
(Zhang et al 2007). The improved functionalities of soy protein isolate will expand its
usage in food processing since most of commercially available soy protein isolates
have undesirable functionalities due to poor solubility (Zhang et al 2007). Chemical
and enzymatic methods are commonly used for proteins modifications because of its
cost effective procedures. The chemical modifications (glycosylation, acetylation,
alkylation, esterification, amidination, and deamination) have been extensively
studied for protein functionality improvements (Aminlari et al 2005).
Among the various chemical modifications, glycosylation describes the covalent
coupling reactions between the Оµ or N terminal amino group of proteins and the
carbonyl group of polysaccharide chains (Aminlari et al 2005). Various proteins such
as ovalbumin, soy protein isolate, whey protein isolate, and peanut protein isolate
have been evaluated for glycosylation process and shown to
5. The Endocrine System And Its Normal Physiology
The endocrine system is a biological system of complex organisms that involves
sending chemical signals from one gland to another part of the body through blood.
The endocrine system involves the use of several chemicals produced in the body at
different parts sent to other parts of the body to trigger function of that that organ. It
is a well synchronized circus of chemicals in the body to communicate the needs from
one organ to the another for the efficient functioning and reproduction of the
organism. Scientifically, endocrinologyis defined as a study of endocrine glands and
their secretions [12]. The human body has a lot of hormones that are released into
the blood. In the following paper, endocrinology will be mainly addressed from a
toxicological perspective. The toxicological impact of endocrine disrupting
chemicals, specifically, Bisphenol A (BPA) will be discussed, following an
introduction of the general endocrine systemand its normal physiology.
Endocrinology is the study of the endocrine system. While there is a significant
amount of endocrine signaling have been exhibited in several multicellular
organisms, this paper will specifically focus on vertebrates. Hormones are basically
composed of either amino acids or fatty acids or both. Hormones work in a cascade
to affect a certain system to produce an effect from that system.
The outcome from the system is also regulated by a feedback mechanism. In essence,
the quantity of these hormones is in homeostasis
6. Dental Fluoridation
In the early 1900s, dentist Frederick McKay began to see a trend in the patients he
was seeing in Colorado Springs, Colorado (NIDR, 2014). The majority of his patients
were showing signs of dental fluorosis, brown spots on permanent teeth, with no
explanation (NIDR, 2014). Surprisingly, Dr. McKay found that those with dental
fluorosiswere also resistant to tooth decay (McClure, 1970). There was very little
known about this condition, so Dr. McKay took it upon himself to do some research.
After looking at trends, he discovered that the areas where dental fluorosis was
prominent were also areas where there was naturally occurring fluoridein the drinking
water (McClure, 1970). The first water fluoridationproject began in 1945 in Grand...

Over 100 Health organizations recognize water fluoridation as a healthy and safe
preventative measure to control the cases of tooth decay in different populations
(CDC, 1999). Just similar to fortifying foods, like cereal with iron, milk with vitamin
D, and bread with folic acid, public health association s claim that water with fluoride
provides a specific benefit with minimal health risks.
Recent research, however, has consistently shown it to be an insufficient and not an
effective form of prevention to tooth decay. In the most largely conducted
longitudinal study following infants through childhood, there has been no correlation
with increased fluorine concentration in water and decreased tooth decay (Warren,
2008). Yet, there was a correlation between increased water fluoridation and
increased dental fluorosis (Warren, 2008). These results align closely with that of the
National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDR) study conducted in
1986 1987. When water fluoride concentration was less than 0.3mg/L, 55.5%
children were shown to have tooth decay, while the children with dental fluorosis
was 14.6% (Yiamouyiannnis, 1990). However, as the water fluoride concentration
increased to over 1.2mg/L, the incidence of children with tooth decay was 56.4%,
while the incidence of children with fluorosis rose significantly to 40.5%
(Yiamouyiannnis, 1990). Fluoridation of water has also been shown to be
7. Importance And Importance Of Assembly Line
Importance of the Moving Assembly Line and the Model T Ford Before the world
entered into the Industrial Revolution, all goods were made by hand and took
weeks to months to produce. After the Industrial Revolution had begun, the first
concept of the assembly line was created. The assembly line was comprised of each
individual worker doing a certain job of producing a single part of the final product.
Prior to Henry Ford, assembly lines involved horses carrying parts from one worker
to the next to create the end product. The implementation of Ford s moving assembly
lineestablished a world where mass production found widespread popularity for
being the dawn of the automotive industry due to its many benefits. Prior to Ford s
moving assembly line, the Model T was a luxury only accessible to the wealthy,
yet it later became a car for all. The Model T was a car that followed the production
of the Model N both of which were meant to be cheap in comparison to earlier
automobiles. From its inception, the Model T has been meant to be the first car
readily available to the masses. Before the moving assembly line was implemented,
the Model T was already a sturdy and relatively inexpensive automobile yet, not
inexpensive enough for Ford who was determined to build motor... Show more

An example of mass production meeting those needs is the modern cell phone of
which Samsung has been able to sell and produce about 300 million phones per year
(Anon). Without the use of the assembly line, mass production would not be a thing.
The definition of mass production is producing something in large quantities,
therefore a product can not be produced in large amounts without an assembly line
automating the task at hand. The task of mass production can only ever be achieved
through efficient methods and a working team of machines or people specializing at
each specific

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States of America, aptly defined
democracy as a government of the people, by the people and for the people. This
definition clearly underlines the basic tenet that, in this form of government, people
are supreme. The ultimate power is in their hands and they exercise it in the form of
electing their representatives at the time of elections. In modern times this type of
democracy, which is representative in nature, is most suitable. The other type, the

They help in the formation of public opinion as well. Thus, political parties see that
there is nothing against the spirit of democracy, freedom, equality and social justice.
In the absence of political parties, we cannot think of smooth and effective
functioning of a democracy. Different political parties may have different ideologies
but they all aim at the good of the people and the country. The party system in India
has been a great factor in giving meaning and life to democracy. With the passage of
time, a new and healthy relationship has developed between the ruling party and the
opposition parties on the one hand and between the public and the political parties
on the other. It is because of the enlightened Indian voters and political parties in
opposition that the government and the party in power have been more responsive
and accountable to the people and their representatives. Obviously, democracy is not
a one sided game and it needs two or more players in the form of ruling party, parties
in opposition and the electorate.
Liberty, equality, justice and fraternity are the very cornerstones of democracy. They
are not available under dictatorship and utilitarian forms of government. Without
freedom of speech, expression of faith, profession, and association, etc. democracy is
meaningless. Similarly, right to own property is one of the fundamental rights under
democracy. The Indian Constitution offers all the

Introduction:
The objective of this lab was to determine the concentration of iron (Fe+2) in an
unknown substance using a spectrophotometer. Spectrophotometry is a process that
uses a sample solution to determine how much light a chemical substance absorbs by
measuring the intensity of a beam of light passing through the solution. Every
substance transmits light over a specific wavelength range, so spectrophotometry is
often used to measure the amount of a known chemical in an unknown substance.

Absorbance and concentration provide a starting point for an analysis of many
substances. The absorbencies of solutions of known concentrations are plotted on a
Beer s law plot. Then, using absorbencies calculated and dilution factors, one can
calculate the concentration of a substance in a solution. In this lab, I was able to
successfully use spectrophotometry to calculate the average concentration of iron in
an unknown solution.
Methods:
In order to calculate the concentration of iron in an unknown substance, many steps
had to be taken. First, a stock iron solution was prepared by measuring exactly
0.0135g of ferrous ammonium sulfate [Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2В·6H2O], mixing it with
approximately 5.2mL of 2.0 M H2SO4, and diluting the solution to 200mL.
Following this, a diluted 1,10 phenanthroline solution was prepared by obtaining
approximately 50.0mL of 1,10 phenanthroline monohydrate in ethanol solution and
diluting it to 200mL with deionized (DI) water. Then 9 200 mL volumetric flasks
were cleaned and labeled A I. Flasks B F were filled with exactly 2.00, 5.00, 10.00,
25.00, and 50.00 mL of the stock iron solution respectively. Flask A was used as a
control and was instead filled with 100mL of DI water. Flasks G,H, and I were
filled with exactly 25.00mL of Unknown Iron Solution E0717. Then all flasks A I
received approximately 2.0mL of hydroxylammonium chloride solution,

Think again. Poorland s cost of producing wine, although higher than Richland s in
terms of hours of labor, is lower in terms of bread. For every bottle produced,
Poorland gives up half of a loaf, while Richland has to give up three loaves to make a
bottle of wine. Therefore, Poorland has a comparative advantage in producing wine.
Similarly, for every loaf of bread it produces, Poorland gives up two bottles of wine,
but Richland gives up only a third of a bottle. Therefore, Richland has a comparative
advantage in producing bread.
If they exchange wine and bread one for one, Poorland can specialize in producing
wine and trading some of it to Richland, and Richland can specialize in producing
bread. Both Richland and Poorland will be better off than if they had not traded.
By shifting, say, ten hours of labor out of producing bread, Poorland gives up the
one loaf that this labor could have produced. But the reallocated labor produces
two bottles of wine, which will trade for two loaves of bread. Result: trade nets
Poorland one additional loaf of bread. Nor does Poorland s gain come at Richland

of producing wine, Richland cuts wine production by one bottle but increases bread
production by three loaves. It trades two of these loaves for Poorland s two bottles of

Homeschool First time I heard about homeschooling, I had tons of question about it. I
was wondering. What are some requirement that parents have go through to be able to
teach their children? Why parents choose homeschool rather then let s their children
go to compound school, and how they manage their schedule? What are some
approach that parents use to teach? However, after question myself; the image of

family used to do homeschool. My dad provide chalks, blackboard, and textbooks.
My uncle and my brother were teachers. They taught my sibling and me math,

homeschool is not school at home and some people say that it is a school at home.
Anyway, my definition of homeschool is school that educate with everything that we

15. The Picture Of Dorian Gray
Twice used by the renowned author, Oscar Wilde, in his novel The Picture of Dorian
Gray as well as in his drama Lady Windermere s Fan, the cynical notion that
nowadays, people know the price of everything and the value of nothing has pervaded
our undeniably quantitatively driven society. Certainly, the monetary view of things
cannot replace aesthetic, moral or rational conscience. However, attempting to
separate the pursuit of absolute truth from economic endeavors altogether is equally
as detrimental as judging significance based on a price tag. Evidently, this
discrepancy beckons drastic revisions of conventional economic notions resolving the
major questions concerning the nature and origin of value. Marilynne Robinson in her
piece, Night Thoughts of Baffled Humanist, supports the popular idea that value in
the universe is created through sentient mind to mind humanrelations. Conversely,
Mary Midgley in her article, Duties Concerning Islands: Of Rights Obligations, finds
fault with this convention suggesting that non human entities have intrinsic value in
themselves. Although these two seemingly differ in their respective conclusions,
Midgley and Robinson can be harmonized by the fact that both their theories suggest
that value genesis is designated by individuals in accordance to their personal moral
context.
Placing emphasis on human minds as the agents of constructing value, Robinson s
argument makes the most logical sense with our own human perspective. The

Fulgencio Batista was president of Cuba from 1940 to 1944. During his time in
office he expanded the educational system, sponsored a huge program of public
works, and brought up the growth of the economy (Britannica). In 1952 he ran for
president again but this time put together a coup because he believed he wouldn t
win. The coup overthrew the current president, Carlos Prio Socarras, and made
Batista dictator. As Fulgencio Batistagained more power he became more corrupt,
forgetting his roots, and negatively impacting the poor of Cuba.
Batista was born into a life of poverty on January 16, 1901 (Rutgers). He was the

17. Mortgage Crisis Essays
Abstract

domino effect that will be created on and for the economy. I will also speak on the
foreclosure rates caused by sub prime loans and no fall back plan to help in the case

The Mortgage Crisis
Thesis Statement:
The mortgage crisis that has caused house prices to fall and foreclosures to occur
across the United States will create the need to alter the financial mortgage industry
policies; as the impact it has can go as far as causing a consumer recession due to the
low unemployment rate, rising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mortgage crisis is simply one side of the coin.
The main cause of the mortgage crisis is the changes in policy for the mortgage
industry. In the past, a fixed mortgage was the prime form of lending. All mortgages
have the same payments for the mortgage duration and a large down payment was
essential. The calculation of the mortgage was based on the initial amount borrowed,
and house assessment rather than the rising value of the income and the house over
the years.
In order to encourage people to buy more houses and boost the real estate market, the
homebuilders, financial lenders, and the government created new financial
instruments of calculation that were not researched properly. Lenders sold
mortgages to investors that allowed the risk of default to be covered even though
the mortgage was in a financial stretch for the borrower. Borrowers did not read the
fine print and made decisions that they could not afford. The major banks Federal and
otherwise, kept the interest rates low causing investors to take risks to get high
returns in the short term, disregarding the long terms security of the whole process.
The result was sub prime borrowers could buy houses they could not afford and
prime borrowers could have extra cash flow that in normal circumstances would not
have been possible, allowing lenders to make bigger plans in terms of growth etc.
The housing epidemic created a false market boom that drove prices up as consumer
demands grew.

Pragmatic pacifism and peacemaking must be seen as parts of a broad framework
for building cultures of Peace at individual and community levels. But how exactly
can individuals make a difference? Scholars of Peace such as John Paul Lederach
[Led er rack] have identified three levels of leadership that are essential to
peacebuilding. First is the top level leadership which includes military, political,
religious leaders with high visibility involved in high level negotiations to resolve
conflicts. Second, are middle ranged leaders respected in various sectors: ethnic and
religious leaders, academics, intellectuals and humanitarian leaders involved in
interventions such as problem solving workshops, training in conflict resolution, and

So, it would be safer for both sides to oppose war despite both believing they are on
that side which should resort to force in the quest for peace.
Herein lies the central dilemma of deploying armed force in humanitarian
interventions for peace. I have talked about the good that can be brought about by
peacekeeping forces, even suggesting that the United Nations Peacekeeping force in
Rwanda should have intervened more proactively to prevent the genocide in 1994.
But we also know that military humanitarian interventions in the name bringing
peace to a country in conflict can go horribly wrong. In 1994 President Clinton
withdrew all US forces from the UN peacekeeping force in Somalia after eighteen
US soldiers were killed and images of their dead bodies being dragged through the
streets of Mogadishu were broadcast on television, horrifying and infuriating the
American public. For those too young to remember this tragic episode, it is well
documented in the Hollywood movie Black Hawk Down. All UN forces in Somalia
were subsequently withdrawn in 1995 leaving that country to spiral into two decades
of chaos and lawlessness. Today, Somalia remains effectively a failed state.
The Americans were not the only ones scarred by the well intentioned international
efforts to bring peace to Somalia. Here in Canada, we soon learned of the brutal
beating to death of a Somali teenager at the hands of

London because he wanted to try freelancing. While there, Handel composed the
opera Rinaldo upon request from the manager of the King s Theatre. This opera is
what gained [Handel] the widespread recognition that he would maintain
throughout the rest of his career (George). His next few years were spent working
for English royalty. In 1719, Handel was offered the position of the Master of the
Orchestra at the Royal Academy of Music, which he was happy to accept.
Unfortunately, the opera he composed while there were not that helpful to the
academy. In 1726, Handel decided to become a British citizen and make London
his home. Slowly but surely, opera started to lose popularity after a rivalry broke
out between two lead actresses (George). During their time, Handel s operas were
praised; however, some twenty five years after his death, they were no longer a
part of the current repertoire. In fact, it has been over one hundred years since any
of them except for Almira in 1874 were performed publicly. Despite popular belief to
the contrary, Handel s works were more than solos and duets. In Alcina, Handel freely
used the chorus during the scenes that involved Alcina s victims;
20. Facing The Loss Of A Loved One And The Grieving Process
Facing the Loss of a Loved One and the Grieving Process
Introduction
From the moment we come in this world grief becomes an inevitable part of our
lives. We grief for various reasons, the loss of loved ones, diagnosis of a terminal
illness, loss of a job, relationships, property among other things we deem important to
us.
Medicinenet.com defines grief as the normal reaction to a loss. Emotional reactions
of grief can include anger, guilt, anxiety, sadness, and despair, while physical
reactions can include sleeping problems, changes in appetite, physical problems, and
or illness.
While grieving is a natural emotional reaction to loss, grief can be functional or
dysfunctional. During the grieving process the intense pain of the loss gradually
fades and allows the person to begin to heal and return to his or her regular life. This
process may take a few months, this however, is normal and is considered
uncomplicated or functional grief. Complicated grief or dysfunctional happens when
the individual experiences the pain and intense sadness for a prolong period of time,
this usually results in the individual s inability to function. This may also manifest
itself in actual physical symptoms.

The beautiful city of Cambridge has an enviable reputation as one of the world s
greatest universities as well as being an agreeable place to live and work. The
inhabitants enjoy low unemployment, a cluster of good schools and plenty of green
spacious parkland. The river Cam provides a focal point in the summer with its
flotilla of punts gliding around gentle bends overhung with lush willows.
Two vibrant communities
Cambridge is a city of two vibrant communities, that despite a chequered past of
friction and confrontation now seem to co exist with ease. Both the students and
locals go about their business, almost independent of each other. Many scholars are
completely unaware of the delights the city has to offer away from the seclusion of
their learned places and locals would be hard pressed to tell you where any university
building was apart from King s College Chapel and maybe the University Library,
with its huge soaring tower. Most central colleges face inward to courtyards hidden
behind castle like buildings, giving no clue to the enclosed delights (that can include
a lake with huge fish). Secret and enchanting places only accessed by gatehouses
guarded by porters keepers of the portcullis. Within the city boundaries are a dense
collection of architectural styles ranging from medieval, Jacobean, classical and
Victorian. This city is an architectural historians paradise where examples of one style
evolving into another are abundant.

3.Introduction to the Right of Setoff
The right of setoff is a vitally important right that gives a creditor (such as a lender
under a credit agreement) the authority to seize and apply deposits of a debtor (such
as a borrower under such a credit agreement) to reduce the amount that such debtor
owes to such creditor. The right of setoff exists by way of (i) common law, (ii) statute
or (iii) contractual agreement.
Creditors, particularly banks, have long relied on the right of setoff as a self help
remedy in commercial transactions. Setoff, which is an equitable remedy, allows a
creditor to offset a debt owing by such creditor to a debtor in a mutual obligation
relationship. Setoff rights exist in state statutes and in common law, being recognized
by all fifty states, however such rights are limited in certain respects. Thus, generally,
parties to a credit agreement could seek to contractually agree for such a settlement of
mutual obligations involving unrelated transactions that would occur through
offsetting transactions outside of a court proceeding. Lenders will typically negotiate
credit agreements to include applicable setoff provisions to clarify the right. In the
particular context of a credit agreement, the right of setoff gives a lender greater
ability to collect larger amounts from a borrower under a contract than

Pliny the Elder (23 79) left medieval and renaissance thinkers with a large
assortment of beasts who shared certain human aspects. This belief in monsters
formed part of the basis for European conceptions of natives in the New World.
When Pliny had a thought, idea or something just to put down he would a document
regardless if it was true or not. This leads to the conclusion that he wasn t always
right about what he had written in his natural history. Too much writing lead to
Pliny not being able to check his own work. For this is when social construct was
somewhat created as an idea put into the minds of Greeks and the romans. Ideas such
as evil eyed Illyrians, one legged monocoli and animal humanhybrids. He suspected

At the edge of the 19th century, Galveston, Texas was roaring with a occupancy of
roughly 40,000 residents. Galveston had become a flourishing commercial port since
the city s founding in 1839. The Island had surmounted countless tropical storms,
which the city survived each time but on September 8, 1900, the storm that would

The 1900 s storm came to town with devastating winds reaching up to 130 140 miles

Many colleges that offer Hospitality Management may also include the option to
enroll within a specific concentration, so that you may gain a specialty . Therefore
it s important to have a sense of what area of hospitality you are interested in, so
that you enroll yourself into an appropriate program, including programs where
graduates have been able to secure employment in your interested field and location.
For example, if you have the desire to work as a ski lodge manager, you may want to
make sure you enroll into a school that provides the focus of the hotel industry and
potential internship opportunities within ski country vs. the beaches in Florida.

Since the beginning of time there has been prejudice and hate. Adam and Eve hated
snakes. Jews hated Jesus. Sugar Ray Leonard hated Tommy Hearns. Prejudice is
caused by two things: ignorance and hate. Prejudice and mistreatment has existed in
this country, first with American Indians and then later with African Americans and
many other minorities.
The selling and trading of slaves is a shadow that has been hanging over the heads of
white Americans for two centuries. Some people feel that it is the white American s

According to Juliane O Gara, Affirmative Action does not mean hiring unqualified
women or minorities over qualified white male applicants, nor does it mean quotas.
In fact, hiring somebody solely on the basis of race or gender without concern for
merit is the very definition of discrimination, be it against women or men, whites or
minorities.
The courts have said repeatedly that the purpose of Affirmative Action programs is
to create an environment where merit can prevail (O Gara 25, my emphasis). This
states in not so many words how Affirmative Action is considered reverse
discrimination. Many people believe that the hiring of unqualified employees is
actually how Affirmative Action works; giving jobs to those who are unqualified
strictly because they are a minority. Those that believe in the idea behind
Affirmative Action actually believe that jobs should be given based on merit not
just the idea of hiring anyone that happens to be of a different color or be a minority.
But if the opportunity arises where there is an equally qualified minority and a white
male some believe that the minority should be given the job.
Juliane O Gara gives an example of this in one of her articles: Discrimination in the

Designers put so much work into their clothing. But most people don t even
recognize how much detail or even what kind of material the designer uses to
create the article. Often time s people just buy a certain piece of clothing because it

time and effort the designer has put into the design, even more so they buy them just

Fashion Designing is a very cutthroat and limited job, so there isn t much room for
new designers to get hired. One article states that, The fashion design world is

The researchers will conduct match to sample behavioral experiments to assess
color vision of spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi; n=4). The animals abilities to
discriminate two test apparatus of varying color (red, green, and blue) and their
abilities to correctly choose the sample that matches the original color will be tested.
Additionally, the gender link component in color perception of primates will be

at rate greater than that of chance, each monkeys individual color vision will be

Color vision is an evolutionary trait that provides primates with significant
reproductive and survival value (Gomes, Pessoa, Suganuma, Tomaz, Pessoa, 2002).
Fascinatingly, humans and apes share over 99% of their genetic makeup (Wildman,

vision varies within and between species in the primate world. Primates are divided
into two groups, the Old World and the New World. The New World primates are
located in the rainforests of South America and surrounding areas, while the Old

Pathologists
A study by Skahan, Watson Lof (2007) examined the assessment methods used by
speech language pathologists (SLPs) when assessing children with suspected speech
sound disorders (SSD). Through a national survey, the study also examined the
assessment of non native English speakers and the length of the assessment process
(Skahan, Watson Lof, 2007). The study was pursued due to a lack of research
regarding the assessment methods used by SLPs to identify children with SSD.
Previous research by Tyler et al. (2002) discussed a variety of standardized and non
standardized assessments for SSDs. While the general areas of assessment were
similar, the specific assessment procedures varied according to the clinicians
theoretical perspective. Thus, the purpose of the study was to provide information
about the current assessment methods used by SLPs in diagnosing children with
suspected SSD (Skahan, Watson Lof, 2007). The findings will allow clinicians to
compare their own assessment methods with the participants of the study (Skahan,
Watson Lof, 2007). The study was conducted through a survey that was mailed to
participants and consisted of 51 questions including multiple choice, fill in the blank,
and forced choice questions. The survey questions focused on the clinician s use of
formal and informal measures in assessment, data analysis, length of procedure, and
assessment of non native English speakers (Skahan, Watson Lof, 2007). The

Shakespeare wrote his play in accordance with the conventions of an easily

For centuries, William Shakespeare has been a beacon of storytelling genius. He has
the ability to tell timeless stories that can be classified within the genres comedy,
tragedy and history. Proving as relevant today as they were 500 years ago, these
stories conform to certain elements that define what genre the story falls under.
Comedies such as The Taming of the Shrew and A Midsummer Night s Dream,
Tragedies such as Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet and Histories such as King John

(Act 3, Scene 2, Line 91)
From these two examples, it is obviously evident how Shakespeare implements the
mistaken identity element within his comedy Much Ado About Nothing, this element
in particular generally gels with the other comedic element: Young Lovers working to
overcome obstacles.
Much Ado about Nothing predominately revolves around the endeavours of two
couples, the younger of which in more distinction; Claudio and Hero. As many
could say that another element of Shakespearean comedies could be love, it would
seem a more defined term is the love between two younger people, this young
couple in particular then faces hindrances that are thrown their way, eventually
working through them. Whereas there is still Beatrice and Benedick who work to
overcome their egomaniacal ways and eventually initiate a romance, it would seem
Claudio and Hero s complications seem to have more significance to the storyline of
the play. This is also due to the fact that the elements of comedy and key plot points
are in relation to their complications, such as being the younger couple and facing the
mistaken identity ordeal. Nevertheless, Hero and Claudio, being the young couple,
face a string of tribulations in which define them as a couple, the majority of these,

in this movie. The issues presented in Chasing Amy are directly related to the
discussions of Politics of Sexuality as well as everyday life in our culture. Our

society has elevated it to the expression of a person s identity and moral code.

can include academic English, scientific English, or possibly medical English. I

My speaking philosophy is composed of five main principles. These beliefs have been
established through time spent in classes with reflection on theories, and through
personal experiences in interacting with ESL students.
1.My first belief is that students should use the language authentically.
Students enjoy genuine interactions with people, and that is why they are often

In order to combat that, the classroom should be comfortable and inviting to every
student. It is vital that students are given opportunities to speak with each other

40. The Energy Supply Of India Essay
Abstract The development of a nation is also measured on the parameters like the
adequacy of electrical energy. To make a nation as the developed nation, the
energy supply should have a reach to the extreme parts too. As India is an
agricultural nation and so sorts of agricultural left outs are accessible here. Along
these lines, this immense measure of agricultural wastes can be an input resource
for power production in Indian villages. Rice husk is one of the potential
agricultural wastes which can be utilized as an input source to generate electricity,
conditioned that it will be handled and processed effectively. The reason for this
paper is to bring the focus on the alternative power generation methods in the rural
part. The rice husk plants are generally small and medium scaled efficient enough
to supply or to meet the basic need of a village. In this piece, the main focus is to
show the available rice husk in India, the distinctive possibilities and the procedure
with which it can be utilized to generate power. Finally, a decrease in competition
in supply by the larger plant may lead to the decrease in the cost. But various issues
related to investment as the risk of failing of plant, monopoly on the supply side of
husk from various rice mills, institutional challenges related to the distributional area.
1. Introduction Even with the increase in the demand for electricity globally, India s
peak demand of electricity is 165253 MW and we have a surplus supply.

Under Armour Case Study
Today s companies may struggle with developing and maintaining a strategy to
ensure long term success in the current global marketplace. Under Armour is no
exception, they desire to challenge industry titans, Nike and Adidas, and seize market
share in the demanding sports apparel arena. Explored in detail, Under Armour s
strategy through examination of the company s history, mission, influences, and

Under Armour History
Founded in 1996, Under Armour was the brainchild of Kevin Plank, a former
University of Maryland football player. Kevin Plank understood that today s
athletes required performance apparel beyond the ordinary cotton T shirt, a
performance shirt that would allow them to remain cool, dry, and light during long
workouts and games. Kevin s plan was to develop a T shirt that provided a tight,
comfortable fit and transferred perspiration and moisture away from the athlete s
body to evaporate quickly, thus regulating the wearer s body temperature. After
developing a prototype T shirt, with the newly obtainable polyester blend, moisture
wicking fabric, Mr. Plank formed an S corporation in Maryland named KP Sports
(Thompson A. A., 2014).
Under Armour s mission has always been clear and focused, to make all athletes
better through passion, design, and the relentless pursuit of innovation (Under Armour
42. The Negative and Positive Benefits of Fluoride
The ingestion of fluoride has been associated to benefits for the teeth. According to
some observers in the past, fluoride strengthens the enamel of the teeth making it
not so susceptible to cavities. From this hypothesis the fluoridation of water had its
start and until today it is believed to be one of the most responsible sources for
reducing cavities in the population (Graham Morin, 1999). In some author s view the
fluoridation of the water implies a significant change and the positive effects can
been seen in the so called post fluoridegeneration. In this generation the number of
adults without any teethhas dramatically declined and similar improvements can be
observed in the periodontal health в€’ related to gums and supporting structures of
teeth в€’ (Milgrom Reisine, 2000). However the lack of consideration of fluoride s
potential to be harmful to human s health is questionable and studies have pointed
out the dark side of this compound (Bryson, 2006). A study conducted in the cities of
Newburgh and Kingston, in New York have shown that the prevalence of cavities in
the population is similar or even less in communities that doesn t have artificial
fluoridated water compared to the ones that have fluoride add to the water. This study
conducted forty years ago is one considerable evidence that fluoridating the water isn
t strongly necessary nowadays to prevent tooth decay, considering that the access to
fluoridated products, such as toothpaste, mouthwash and

Including everything from a hero with a secret identity, to a dying passion The
Scarlet Pimpernel written by Emmuska Orczy, is a classic that doesn t bore you to
death. The Scarlet Pimpernel is the first novel in a series of historical fiction,
written by Emmuska Orczy. First published in 1905 it proved popular with its
English audience, unlike its several sequels. No matter what genre you prefer I m
sure anyone would enjoy this piece of work. It s difficult not to get hooked on the
first line: surging, seething, murmuring crowd, of beings that are only human in
name, for to the eye and ear they seem naught but savage creatures, animated by
vile passions and by the lust of vengeance and of hate. The story is set in 1792

Englishmen defies the French Republic, by endangering their lives to save

Having a disorder could lead to people abusing their own dogs, but people must

one world, one ecosystem, one planet, and one galaxy. People need to learn to treat

45. Disparity Between Passion of the Christ and the Bible Essay
The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson, recounts the last twelve hours of the life of
Jesus of Nazareth, portraying his arrest, trial, crucifixion and death. One of the most
anticipated and popular religious movies in modern society, it therefore becomes
susceptible to criticism. Although the film is based upon the stories within the four
gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, there are many exaggerations and non
biblical elements present in the movie. This is not unexpected, since it is a movie, but
the vivid detail of the brutality in the movie as well as the Anti Semitic theme are the
most publicly criticized themes and concepts present in the movie. The Passion

In the scenes of the movie, he is preaching his peace and ideas of independence, but
the high priests and the Jewish people do not show him any mercy or respect. Even
at the voice of the governor Pontius Pilate, who several times mentions that he doesn
t find any guilt or reason to persecute Jesus, the people still wish for his crucifixion.
The movie did not really make sense of the motivation of the Jewish high priests or
the Jewish people, and it was not explained in the gospels either. However, in Mark
15; 10 11, it suggests that Pontius Pilate realized that it was out of jealousy that the
chief priests had handed Jesus over. The chief priests, however, had incited the
crowd to demand that he should release Barabbas for them instead . Therefore,
according to the Bible, the chief priests were envious of Jesus, and that is why
they condemned him to be crucified. It was an act of panic more than anything
else. The people, fearing to be considered outcasts, therefore agreed with whatever
the high priests would say. This still does not explain why the Jewish people were
so quick to have their savior and messiah killed. The movie suggests that they all felt
passionately about this themselves, because all the people in the scenes are
adamantly screaming for his death, but the gospels do not explain it. The appearance
of Satan within several important scenes of the movie is also something that is not
found within the Bible. Satan appears
46. To Build A Fire By Jack London
You should never dive into life or death situations unprepared and ill informed on
how to take action given a common problem you could come across because it
really could be your life on the line. Actions are the main factor in your survival and
because of that fact, survival is your own responsibility. Alternatively, there are some
situations where you really have no control and are at the mercy of nature. But,
regardless people should be held accountable for their actions in situations that deal
with life and death because your actions directly affect you. Your decisions also
affect other people, for instance, in a storywhere a German caver needed to be saved

someone could say that even being alert and having a partner with him the man

that you are the one who is accountable for whatever happens to yourself in
47. John D. Rockefeller
Introduction John D. Rockefeller was born on July 8, 1839, and has had a huge
impact on the course of American history. His reputation spans from being a
ruthlessly powerful businessman to an intelligent philanthropist. He came from a
family with not much and lived the American dream, rising to success with his own
genius, all by himself. His legacy is unforgettable, gaining the greatest wealth of
anyone in history. Rockefeller s influence on America has been both a positive and a
negative one. He revolutionized the petroleumindustry and donated huge amounts of
money to various institutions. Although Rockefeller had many positive effects to
this country, he also had many negative ones as well, such as gaining his wealth by
creating an illegitimate monopoly that often grew by using illegal methods, by
giving American s (and the rest of the world) a reason to dislike capitalism, and by
damaging small businesses. Part 1
One positive effect of John D. Rockefeller was that he donated huge amounts of
money to various institutions. During his life, Rockefeller donated 540 million
dollars. Most of his donations were given after leaving Standard Oil, the oil
company that he founded, that quickly became the largest oil factory in the world.
He donated to churches, colleges, and to hospitals. Rockefeller s son, Frederick
Gates, who appointed by Rockefeller himself, was put in charge of giving out these
donations. These donations helped many people and also made America a better

Introduction How successful were Bill Clinton s involvements in Cuba and Haiti?
The start of Bill Clinton s presidency is particularly interesting in where it coincides
with the timing of the fall of the soviet union; leaving the United States as the sole
super power. The whole premise of Bill Clinton s campaign against George H.W
Bush was that he was going to focus on the domestic issues at home rather than
foreign affairs. However, The foreign affairs that took place truly shapes modern
American foreign policy. I would first assess Clinton s administration s actions in
both Cubaand Haitiand answer the question on the motivations behind both countries.
As I continue my research, I will talk about the similarities between both countries in
the administration s motivations and the message that the administration was trying
to deliver to the public. As well as paying particular focus on immigration.
Additionally, I will also proceed to talk about the correlation with what unfolded in
each country, hoping to answer my research question. Cuba/Haiti Similarities Before
indulging in the actions of Clinton s administration, one must first look into the
motivations/reasonings. With the coincidental fall of the Soviet Union, it leaves the
United Statesas the sole superpower. In order for the country to maintain its role in
the world, it must not lose control over the western hemisphere. In the cases of Cuba
and Haiti, one important similarity to be noted is the close
50. An Analysis Of Merlin s Rape
Arthur is conceived through trickery. The King Uther Pendragon commits rape
through deception by masquerading of the Duke of Cornwall in order to sleep
with his wife Igrayne. Since Igrayne later marries Uther this act could be seen as
acceptable since rape can be excused if the rapist marries their victim. The fact that
Merlin facilitates it means that it serves a greater purpose or will at least helps
Merlin to fulfill his own agenda. Arthur s nativity associated with the prophecy of
the sword makes him seem younger in age and not very kinglike. On the other hand
the fact that Arthur pulls the sword out so he can generously give it to Kay instead
of thinking of himself does show some kingly qualities like generosity, charity, and

Lyra s traits as depicted from this book are somehow paradoxical; she is described
as, coarse, greedy, and savage (Pullman 2015, pp.). Since she comes from a stable

She likes telling stories some of which are amplifications and overstated, yet she has a

mysterious hence justifying her heroines. Another instance is when she is
represented as the person who is going to determine the fate of the humankind
through protecting Dust. But according to the master, Lyra must get out of her
destiny for her to achieve the mission. She will have to go against her destiny without
realizing that

Free speech on college campuses has been a widely debated topic in recent years.
Because of this, the opinions held on this subject vary. In the editorial, Defending
Free Speech on College Campuses , the Editorial Board of the Chicago Tribune
defends the idea of education and free speech. The Editorial Board states that students
today are not receiving as useful of an educationbecause of the barriers put on free
speech. In addition, they argue that in not allowing students to feel uncomfortable,
they are not receiving a true education. [A little more summary here would be helpful
how does the author support these claims?] The editorial, Defending Free Speech on
College Campuses, introduces a valid logical argumenton education through
describing instances in which students experience uncomfortable learning situations,
and the ways in which they were handled. [Hannah, your reasons here are about
content, not about rhetoric what rhetorical reasons is the argument strong?]
The true substance of this editorial comes from the authors use of logical appeals
and its relatability to students. [These are two different ideas which is going to make
your paragraph rather jumbled. How could you reorganize to make sure each
paragraph is focused on a single unified idea?] The author argues the importance in
not going so far in protecting undergraduates (n.p.) from controversial or touchy
subjects. A substantial part of education consists of understanding your opinion, as
well as, the
53. Examples Of Dysfunctional Relationships
Dysfunctional People in Relationships
Have you ever wondered why some people stay in a dysfunctional relationship?
Dysfunctional relationships are relationships that do not perform their appropriate
function. In The Yellow Wallpaper, The narrator is a doctor who although probably
filled with good intentions, comes off seeming domineering. The narrator and her
husband move into a manor for the summer to help her with her temporary nervous
depression a slight hysterical tendency. Female patients were not to listened to by
male patients, but because back then women were not in positions of power. The two
main reasons why their relationship is dysfunctional is the way John treats the
narrator and the fact that she has postpartum depression so she is not herself.
The medical world has changed a lot since back then. For instance, there were no
female doctors at that time. In the 1800 s, much was unknown in the terms of
health. The mortality rate was high and life expectancy was low. Parents, rich or
poor, had no way of combating the deadly diseases and infections that often took
their children s lives. Deadly outbreaks of cholera ( an infection in the small
intestine) to the flu were, understandably, a leading cause of death in children at the
time. After all, children s immune systems are not fully developed and are therefore
weaker in the terms of fighting off these fatal diseases. Medicine has advanced
dramatically from the 1800 s to the present.Today, although not all children are
healthy if any, foods available to them, the overall diet of children has improved.
Also, with what is known
about diseases and transmission, many deadly diseases are under control. Luckily,
today it is much more common for people also have regular checkups with the doctor,
from the time they are in the womb through adulthood.
One reason why John and the narrator s relationship is dysfunctional is that John
treats the narrator like a child. The relationship between the narrator and John is not
overly loving, but unlike many people, I do not believe that John was intentionally
trying to hurt her. John cares about his wife, he just refuses to admit that his own
prescribed treatment may, in fact, be the wrong treatment. John
