In any social science, it is hard to find a concept that has a single, universally accepted definition. Any scholar has a vision of what
characteristics are inherent to this or that phenomenon. The concept of populism is not an exception. It is one of the most difficult in this
respect, as many researchers at different times have used this term to refer to different phenomena: starting from the style of speech and
ending with a certain stage of development in the process of modernization of the state.
In my paper, the concept of populism is defined by Kurt Weyland as a specific political strategy when the charismatic leader is directly
appealing to the masses, "populism is best defined as a political strategy through which a personalistic leader seeks or exercises government
power based on direct, unmediated, uninstitutionalized support from large numbers of mostly unorganized followers". The concept of
populism as a political strategy is usually used in relation to Latin America. This continent has a long history of populism, beginning with the

the parameters of communitarian justice in indigenous areas (Crabtree and Chaplin 2013:25).
Regarding the economical standpoint, while the average income has soared, the Morales administration has not been able to radically change
the economy; rather it has followed a neo–extractivist model due to the lingering reliance on gas and other resources. Although this means a
larger role for the state, it also means that Bolivia is even more dependent on its natural resources (Farthing and Kohl 2014:79). With so

Martín Sivak seeks to project a direct and straight forward perspective in his study of Evo, whom he knew quite well for some time. The

region of Bolivia, the indigenous organizations that grow the plant joined together to contest the government in what is known as the

suppress cultivation of the Coca plant due to its role in making Cocaine does not serve as a suitable rationale of eradicating its production

New York Times reporter who commented that the election of the Uruguayan Leader was "not so much a red tide but more of a pink one"
