Blu-ray is a new high-definition optical disc format that can store large amounts of video and audio content. It was developed by a consortium of 10 major electronics companies to succeed DVD. Blu-ray discs have significantly more storage capacity than DVDs, allowing for higher resolution video and extra features like internet access. While Blu-ray is poised to replace DVDs, it still faces competition from other new disc formats in the marketplace.
