10Tips on Creating Content People
Want to Read
#1 Ideas File
Keep ideas as they come to you. Jot down ideas
on:
• Whiteboard
• Excel Spreadsheet or Google Docs
• A book with scribbled notes in it
#2 Seek inspiration
Find inspiration by following and reading other
blogs.
Borrow ideas but don’t plagiarise as this scores
poorly with search engines (and the person’s
whose work you have nicked!)
#3 Ask your Audience
As your blog builds followers, ask your audience
what they would like to read and why.
The response can be surprising, as much as it is
challenging.
#4 Ask the Internet & Social Media
• As well as asking followers of your blog, ask
your social media audience
• Use the ‘survey’ facility onTwitter to engage
your followers by giving them three options
on what to write on next, for example
#5 Expand your Best Content
• Choose the blog post that got most likes,
shares and comments
• Expand on this – write Part 2 or expand a point
from the main article
• Re-share the original article before you post
the related content
#6 Follow trends or news stories
• When there is a news story or trend that can
be linked to your business or blog matter,
create something around it
• Be careful with controversial content – be
ready to manage comments and discussion
#7The Story so Far
• Personality is key to blog posts
• Write an update on where your business
started – and where it is now
• Talk about the pitfalls and hard lessons
• Ask people to share their experiences too
#8 A ‘How to’ Guide
• It can be anything from ‘how to’ open a
Twitter account to how to improve domain
authority
• Clear, concise guides are popular
#9 Hire a BlogWriter
• From one-off posts to writing a series of
articles, professional blog writers can create
fantastic content from seemingly nothing…
#10 Interview someone
• Approach someone for an interview
• Do this online or meet them personally
• It can be a promotional piece or a hard-hitting
piece of online journalism
• Often, interviews and content is mutually
beneficial
