Ah certainty and transparency, but also ah garbage in and garbage out. Are some contractual terms not amenable to smart contracting? And are smart contracts necessarily contracts? If not, can they still be useful? If a smart contract is a contract, what is the governing document? Is it the words business people and lawyers use, or is it the code that is supposed to reflect the words?

Introduction to Blockchain Technology
Blockchain technology has the potential to build trust in IoT systems by providing identity and reputation for participants, controlling access to information, and enabling efficient actions even when connectivity is intermittent. However, challenges include the need for reversibility of actions and accommodating privacy regulations, as immutability is a core blockchain principle. Overall, blockchain characteristics could help address security and data sharing issues in increasingly complex IoT ecosystems.
Blockchain technology
Blockchain technology provides a decentralized, distributed, and digital ledger for recording transactions across many computers so that the record cannot be altered retroactively. The seminar presentation covered the history of blockchain from 1991 to present, described blockchain architecture including its layers and use of cryptography, and discussed various blockchain types and applications beyond cryptocurrencies such as in music, storage, healthcare, and elections. Advantages include transparency, security, and traceability while disadvantages include complexity, slow transaction times, and increasing storage needs as the blockchain grows.

Abstract: The first global blockchain benchmarking study presents a systematic and comprehensive picture of a rapidly evolving industry, examining how blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT) are being used in the public sector and enterprise. The study analysed non-publicly available data gathered from over 200 central banks, other public sector institutions, DLT start-ups, and established companies. Findings from the study include which protocols central banks and are testing (57% of surveyed central banks are experimenting with the Ethereum codebase), targeted use cases, emerging revenue models, timing of deployment, and key challenges.

Introduction to Blockchain Technology
Blockchain technology has the potential to build trust in IoT systems by providing identity and reputation for participants, controlling access to information, and enabling efficient actions even when connectivity is intermittent. However, challenges include the need for reversibility of actions and accommodating privacy regulations, as immutability is a core blockchain principle. Overall, blockchain characteristics could help address security and data sharing issues in increasingly complex IoT ecosystems.
Blockchain technology
Blockchain technology provides a decentralized, distributed, and digital ledger for recording transactions across many computers so that the record cannot be altered retroactively. The seminar presentation covered the history of blockchain from 1991 to present, described blockchain architecture including its layers and use of cryptography, and discussed various blockchain types and applications beyond cryptocurrencies such as in music, storage, healthcare, and elections. Advantages include transparency, security, and traceability while disadvantages include complexity, slow transaction times, and increasing storage needs as the blockchain grows.
Real world
Its origins may be traced all the way back to the blockchain technology. There are decentralized blockchain networks. Blockchain technology is a wonderful innovation of the twenty-first century.

Abstract: The first global blockchain benchmarking study presents a systematic and comprehensive picture of a rapidly evolving industry, examining how blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT) are being used in the public sector and enterprise. The study analysed non-publicly available data gathered from over 200 central banks, other public sector institutions, DLT start-ups, and established companies. Findings from the study include which protocols central banks and are testing (57% of surveyed central banks are experimenting with the Ethereum codebase), targeted use cases, emerging revenue models, timing of deployment, and key challenges.

When the Bitcoin cryptocurrency was released in 2009, its underpinning, the blockchain distributed ledger system was the real technological breakthrough, a formulation that promises to change the basis of all types of transactions globally.
Blockchain technology has paved the way for an Internet of Transactions. Blockchain technology has already proved its worth in such areas as means of payment, interbank exchanges and international remittances. Touted as the next digital revolution, blockchain technology has the potential to transform traditional industries and alter society through disintermediation of trade. Any situation that involves an intermediary that is expensive or fallible represents an opportunity to create a blockchain application case. No industry is immune to the blockchain’s disruption potential.
In 2017, the blockchain technology is at an inflection point. The industry is in a state of transition and must move to Blockchain 2.0, which means the adoption of more sophisticated applications, such as micro-payments and smart contracts. Having outgrown its original bitcoin community, the majority of blockchain applications have yet to pass beyond the prototype stage to make blockchain technology the greatest restructuring technology of the next decade.

How does the Blockchain Work?
A blockchain is a distributed, peer-to-peer database that hosts a continuously growing number of transactions. Each transaction, referred to as a “block,” is secured through cryptography, timestamped, and validated by every authorized member of the database using consensus algorithms (i.e., a set of rules). A transaction that is not validated by all members of the database is not added to the database. Every transaction is attached to the previous transaction in sequential order, creating a chain of transactions (or blocks). A transaction cannot be deleted or edited, thereby creating an immutable audit trial. A transaction can only be changed by adding another transaction to the chain.

What is Blockchain?
The ownership record of digital assets is kept on a decentralized, distributed ledger using blockchain technology. Blockchain technology is a viable disruptor for markets including payments, cybersecurity, and healthcare because no data stored there can be changed.
It’s easy to understand how blockchain technology works by making the comparison to a Google Docs page. A Google Doc is not duplicated or transferred when it is shared with a group of people; rather, it is simply distributed. As a result, a decentralized distribution network is established, allowing everyone to simultaneously access the basic document.
IoT and Blockchain Challenges and Risks
The biggest challenge facing IoT security is coming from the very architecture of the current IoT ecosystem; it’s all based on a centralized model known as the server/client model. All devices are identified, authenticated and connected through cloud servers that support huge processing and storage capacities. The connection between devices will have to go through the cloud, even if they happen to be a few feet apart. While this model has connected computing devices for decades and will continue to support today IoT networks, it will not be able to respond to the growing needs of the huge IoT ecosystems of tomorrow.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

In precedenza ha lavorato a migrazioni e corsi di formazione su LibreOffice per diverse amministrazioni pubbliche e privati. Da gennaio 2020 lavora in SUSE come Software Release Engineer per Uyuni e SUSE Manager e quando non segue la sua passione per i computer e per Geeko coltiva la sua curiosità per l'astronomia (da cui deriva il suo nickname deneb_alpha).

- 4. Properties of blockchain • Data once entered cannot be changed by anybody. • It is an open transparent ledger with the transactions being visible to all participants. • It uses strong military grade cryptography. • Blockchains use peer 2 peer (p2p) communications.
- 5. Properties of blockchain • They can be public/permission-less OR they can be configured to be private. • Consensus is achieved via different algorithms. The most popular consensus algorithms are "Proof of Wok" and "Proof of Stake". • Blockchain applications and data cannot be shut done or censored. • Can be used for value transfer.
- 6. Bitcoin is by far the most popular application of blockchain technolgy as of today. But that will rapidly change as more industries are being disrupted by blockchain.
- 7. Another popular adoption of blockchain technology is being done by Ethereum which can be used to pass on value just like bitcoin but provides additional features like smart contract built into it.
