E-learning refers to learning utilizing electronic technologies like computers and the internet. There are two types: synchronous which allows real-time interaction and asynchronous which allows learning at one's own pace without live interaction. E-learning provides benefits like flexibility, lower costs, faster delivery, and effective learning. It also has disadvantages like being technology dependent, unsuitable for certain skills/learners, expensive to develop, and requiring human support. Overall, e-learning bridges the gap between teachers and students and personalizes learning.

South Devon College developed programs to support students' core curriculum and help them achieve their full potential despite funding cuts. This included implementing a centralized tutorial system called LEAP to track student progress, and dedicating weekly periods for independent learning supervised by staff. Technology played a key role, including an online booking system for IT resources and a learning management system to deliver course materials. As a result, student success rates increased, retention improved, and the college saw higher enrollment and savings of over £126,000. The initiatives were shared with other colleges as an effective model for curriculum delivery.

Student and external feedback has been positive about the quality and benefits of the PDE program.
The whole aim of a learning process is to help the learner move from Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) to Zone of Achieved Development (ZAD). Most of us are aware of these terms from Lev Vygotsky's theory of learning and development. From unknowing to known, the distance between the current developmental level and potential development can be covered through guidance as per Lev Vygotsky’s theory.
But how do we know that this distance has been traversed by the learner?
The answer is performance assessment.

I started teaching the course Professional English for Master students of
Heat power engineering this year. Now I have printed (books) and digital
(video, presentations) materials to support this course.
I plan to implement e-Learning technologies to increase students’ interest
to the course and improve their language skills in the area of Heat power
engineering.

During this course I hope to improve plans for my own course by
learning new ways to deliver information, assess students and work with
different digital resources.
My final goal is to provide ideal combination of online and face-to-face
education for my course and to improve uptake of content by the students.
