Presentation made at the EMINENT Project Event 2018 on the topic 'How to assess, certify and recognize learning in open online teacher professional development?'
Recently Adrienne van As presented a paper at ICICTE 2011 (International Conference of Information and Communication Technologies in Education) in Rhodes, Greece. The paper is a proposal for her doctorate thesis.
Mantras for making eLearning experience effectiveMagic Marks
Among the key advantages of an eLearning program is the fact that it can be taken by the student at his own pace and convenience. This aspect has made it popular in all segments of education including technical programs like engineering.

This session will pull together lessons learned for HMI work with colleges over the period of remote learning. It will examine the changes, and strong practices identified. This session will also be supported by Dumfries and Galloway College who developed a strong CPD programme reflecting the different levels of skill within the staff on use of technologies for remote learning.

Academic Integrity is an issue that affects us all. DCU is a partner in an Erasmus plus funded project led by Ilia State University in Georgia. The purpose of this project is to investigate the whole area of academic integrity and to investigate ways to address the challenge of this very relevant topic. This paper will highlight the opportunities available through both Moodle and Mahara, essentially taking a “prevention is better than cure” approach.

Enabling and enhancing student learning and support through technologyJisc
A presentation from Connect More 2020 by Peter Francis, deputy vice-chancellor, Northumbria University.
In recent months universities have rapidly implemented significant and often unplanned changes to the ways in which education is delivered. In large part, the nature of such changes will be temporary, although the significance of such changes may be longer lasting.
But this has also allowed universities to explore opportunities that otherwise may not have been considered. One can foresee that many universities will need to focus more time and energy on their approach to technology for student learning, and as a result their digital leadership. Yet technology on its own is not the solution; it is an enabler.
In this session Peter will reflect briefly on his own institution's journey towards technology-enhanced learning and support, one that encompasses a broad array of technological developments, and involved many colleagues and students, the aim of which is the delivery of a high-quality and inclusive student experience for all.

Technology-Enhanced Learning in Higher Education
5. I N T R O D U C T I O N
UCD embarked on an expansive project to review and
refresh the University’s eLearning environment to
enrich the student, faculty and staff experience.
To ensure the smooth transition to the new platform a comprehensive
training programme was delivered to enhance the digital skills of faculty
and staff. Aligning with the IUA Enhancing Digital Skills Initiative a pilot
project was developed to train tutors and demonstrators specifically in the
area of assessment and feedback in the College of Science.
We identified gaps in our Educational Technology support in the College of
Science and the College of Engineering and our project will focus on
enhancing digital T&L in these disciplines. We are in the process of
recruiting two Educational Technologists to support staff in designing and
developing digital aspects of programmes and this is timely as it coincides
with our switch to a new virtual learning environment- Brightspace.

7. Digital Peer Review Assignments and
Student Produced Animated Videos
The autumn semester 2019 pilot project at the University of Limerick (UL) consisted of participating educators from the
School of Engineering and the School of Allied Health.
Educators from the School of Allied Health piloted
a new digital assessment initiative to build
learners’ digital competence.
Students taking a Therapies & Technologies
module over a 6-week academic block of study
were tasked with developing a 2-3 minute
Information Sharing Animation (ISA) on a
specified Speech and Language Therapy (SLT)
area that they chose from a list of relevant topics.
Educators from the School of Engineering piloted two different approaches to conducting
digital peer review assignments.
1 – Using the Turnitin.com website to conduct peer and self-review assignments with students.
2 – Using the built-in Turnitin assignment functionality within a tool on ULs institutionally
supported virtual learning environment (VLE), Sulis.
