Founded in 1984 by Mike Lazaridis, Blackberry became a global leader in the smartphone market with over 79 million users by 2012. However, Blackberry began losing market share to Apple and Android devices. The company transitioned to developing secure enterprise software and services, as well as introducing new phone models like the Blackberry 10 to try and regain market share, but has struggled to compete in the consumer market.
