3. The Death Of My Life
The mudded earth grasps at my martial boots. Perspiration seeps from my grimy
pores. The humid air slithers across my skin. My palpitating heart aches from the
adrenaline. Our offense under the shadow of the night we made has been
counteracted.
The German roaches fire their weapons, illuminating no man s land with cones of
ugly light revealing the lakes of crimson, the bottomless pits, the wandering limbs,
the grey sleepers all of it.
The contorted screams of my wounded comrades fall past me as I run.
I see a wounded man praying. A futility. The gods are indifferent to our suffering. As

Thus, I do not dare leave the confines of this shell hole.
I no longer hear the steps of my comrades, the gunfire becomes sparse and a relative
placidity takes no man s land. Though I dare not move. As I can feel the roacheseyes

consciousness. The nauseating moans of the dying pervade the stagnant air.

physically feeble, cold; as if I can see myself in the reflection of death s scythe.
I shiver.
I feel a dreaded moisture on my arm. Where I lay a nightly liquid, tugs at the arm of
my martial coat. It cannot be.
A piercing pain cements itself, and my body convulses in agony. It s gushing from
my stomach I have been wounded. I feel it rising. My mouth becomes a cesspool of
blood; and I struggle not to drown in it.
Vibrant birds sing their elegant melodies. The boughs and branches of the old oak

filling the living room of my father s apartment with oscillating lights and elegant
shades. Below us the hustling of the crowded streets can be heard. The torrent of

thoughts, and attitudes.

4. The Conflict Between The Hutu And Tutsi Tribes In Rwanda
Rivalries between neighboring areas have historically led to violent altercations. This
is especially the case in Rwanda, between the Hutu and Tutsi tribes that founded the
nation. Their relationship was not like that at first the tensions seemed to increase
when European powers intervened with the tribes. When Rwandabecame
independent, the malicious competition continued because the tribes had become
accustomed to it and adopted it on their own. It is so implanted in their culture that
even the leaders have been promoting the separation. The biggest challenge facing
present Rwanda is trying to unite the people as a whole and forget about the hateful
rivalry between the founding Hutuand Tutsitribes. Their once feudal division has
evolved into a destructive competition over ethnic superiority as the nation gained
power and eventually became independent.
Originally, the relationship between the Hutu and Tutsi tribes was not hostile it was a
contractual agreement based on skill. The Hutus, who had settled in Rwanda first,
were mainly involved in small scale agriculture. The Tutsis were more advanced
socially and politically and took over control once they migrated to the area. Tutsi
people were cattle herders and soon developed a client patron like arrangement with
the Hutus, called Ubhuahke. In this agreement, Hutus provided personal services and
allegiance in exchange for Tutsis providing them cattle, land, and protection (Rwanda,
UPenn). Although they were the minority

A host in an Ethernet network can communicate with another host, only if it knows
the Ethernet address (MAC address) of that host. The higher level protocols like IP
use a different kind of addressing scheme like (IP address) from the lower level
hardware addressing scheme like MAC address.ARP is used to get the Ethernet

6. Should Schools Get Rid Of Dress Codes
Lately, being dress coded has led to kids being sent home or, kids having to change
into their PE clothes. Has anyone else ever noticed how dress codes are more
targeted towards girls or, limit their freedom of expression? Or, how teachers and
staff label girls as distractions? The dress code implies that boys can t stop
themselves from looking at girls bodies, so, it s the girls fault when boys can t pay
attention in math. It s the girls who are taken out of class to change their clothes.
Getting rid of dress codes would give kids more freedom of expression, getting rid of
dress codes would make the girls feel free, instead, of making them feel like
distractions, and getting rid of dress codes would make the girls feel more
comfortable. All schools should get rid of dress codes.... Show more content on

appearance is an important component in that training if their graduates are to be
truly employable. Dressed for Future Success? Community College Dress Codes
(Chen 2017). Yes, of course there is some truth to this because if you know the dress
code to your school and really follow it then it might actually work because in work
environments you have to follow it or you might get in trouble, Although this
might be true there is always another side to every story. So, Most people really
don t follow the dress code and usually they get away with it. Some dress codes are
stringent and ridiculous. Like this one a Massachusetts charter school made
headlines for penalizing two African American sisters for violating their school

dialogue between the counselor and the client. It is considered as a cooperative
process that the counselor help assists the client to identify any problems,
difficulties, or concerns they may have experienced in their life. The process can be
broken down into five stages: pre group issues, initial stage exploration, transition
stage, working stage, and the final stage consolidation and termination. My session

Again, I did not imagine the group members engaging at the level they did with
this activity because I included a prop. I was unsure how they were going to
respond to a prop in the session or would they find this activity beneficial.
Honestly, I really believe that I over analyzed my activities and my own ability to
fully connect the activities for the group members to understand and relate to
themselves. I felt good and proud of myself for implementing the activities because
they worked well with the group. In fact, some of the responses I got from members
I was not expecting it became authentic rather than role playing for some. Group
members were then asked to write down the three things that influenced their
thoughts about themselves and place them on an index card. Preceding the writing I
informed members that we were writing away our negative thoughts that defined
our perception of us as an individual. I believe all group members begin to feel a
sense of empowerment or a sense of hope of changing their negative thoughts to
positives. The next part of my session I gave the group members information sheets
that listed positive traits so they can begin to think about themselves in a positive
manner and pick out the good they see in themselves rather the negative. Lastly, I
wrapped up the session by summarizing our activities we completed and going over a
homework assignment they can complete to encourage and motivate themselves
daily. We

society s collective social values, and therefore considers crimestatistics generated by
the criminal justice system and governmental agencies such as Statistics Canada
unbiased measures of societal crime and criminality (Morden, H. K. and Palys, T.,

trend in crime is going down, but the Uniform Crime Report has its weaknesses, and
there are other ways of measuring the crime trends.
The statistics reported in the 2015 and 2016 Uniform Crime Report would be
quantitative data, because it is represented in numeric form and generated by
methods that are highly structured and seek to aggregate as many cases as possible
(Morden, H. K. and Palys, T., 2015). Quantitative data show overall patterns, and
their consistent structure allows for comparison to be made between groups, times,
and places (Morden, H. K. and Palys, T., 2015).
Based on the 2015 and 2016 Uniform Crime Report surveys, the overall trend of

Alan Mann s Life Story
Alan Mann
Southeastern Oklahoma State University
Alan Mann s Life Story Alan Mann was born in 1974 in the city of Monroe,
Michigan. Monroe is about 40 miles South of Detroit on Lake Erie. He has two
older brothers named Jason and Michael. Alan s parents met when they were in the
Navy. His father changed services to the Army and was stationed in Monroe as a
recruiter after returning from the Vietnam War. Being born the son of an Army
member makes one an Army Brat which means moving very often and attending
several schools over one s lifetime (Baker, 2015). One of his earliest memories is of
his mother bundling him up to go outside in the heavy snows of a Michigan winter
storm. In 1978, the family moved to Mainz, Germany where he attended the first
grade. While stationed there, the family visited many German castles, learned a lot
of German history, went on Volksmarches which were noncompetitive walkathons
(AVA) and met a lot of interesting people. In 1981, the family moved back to the
United States to Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. There, Alan attended Logan Heights
Elementary School. His house was on a street that had a dead end. Beyond the dead
end was literally the desert complete with cactuses, tumbleweeds, horned frogs, and
tarantulas. He loved going over the border to Juarez, Mexico with the family and
haggling with the merchants for items. Finally, in 1982 the family moved to Ft. Polk,
Louisiana for his last move which is where his father retired from the military. In
Louisiana, Alan attended Leesville Junior High and High School. He graduated with
honors in 1992. He enrolled at Northwestern State University for the fall semester.
However, he was working full time, had an hour long commute to classes, and a
new girlfriend that would soon be his wife. His grades weren t very good. Alan
decided perhaps he was ready for a break from school and was ready to do a little
growing up . Having a long history of military service in his family, he looked to do
his duty and serve also. After talking with the recruiters in his home town, the Air
Force seemed to have the jobs he found most interesting. He took the ASVAB test
and scored high enough to select any job the Air Force had to

Abstract
The research question of this extended essay is: To what extend the need of being
perfect leads man to its own destruction? It is an analysis of perfection through the
film The Black Swan. In the film the main character, Nina, is an obsessed ballerina
who at the end destroyed her own life. I began the essay trying to prove that her
obsession with being perfect is what leaded her to her destruction and death, but after
analyzing the movie it all turned around.
I based my investigation in reviews of the film, different type of ... Show more

Or should the question be: which meaning does it have in our society? Is it even
possible to reach perfection, or is it something out of the hands of a human being?
It is true that perfection is something everybody strives for, to help them succeed in
the things they propose for their lives. Many people aspire to be perfect in
different ways, it could be a mother, a student, a teacher or even an artist with that
desire of reaching perfection, but do we know the real meaning of this word?
According to the dictionary one of its meanings is a quality, trait, or feature of the
highest degree of excellence. (Dictionary, 2013) Excellence and perfection are far
from being the same; which is why many people say it is impossible to be perfect
but possible to reach Excellency, because perfection is supposed to exist as an
abstraction of our minds, but not to be attainable in the physical world. (Wais, 2010)
As well as there is people who believe perfection is not attainable, there is also
people who believe that it is possible to reach that, when they give everything they
have. It is a much divided opinion, which will perhaps never come to one only
general conclusion. To succeed in life people must always work hard and sometimes
sacrifice some things they think are important, but putting them in front of another
type of situations they would not be taken as a priority. The majority of these people
who believe in perfection
11. Black Holes, By John Archibald Wheeler
Black holes are one of the most mysterious aspects of the Universe. Scientists know
that black holes contain an insane amount of matter packed into a small space with a
gravitational field so intense that not even light can escape it. This review will focus
primarily on what is known about black holes, how scientists know black holes exist,
current studies and experiments, and why they are studied. Based off the knowledge
humans have already uncovered about black holes, they could change the future.
Black holes could realistically be used to power starships, enabling humans to travel
at near light speed to explore the Cosmos. Humans would be able to conquer the most
unknown frontier yet.
It was not until 1916 that black holes were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Gamma ray bursts from collisions or collapses signify the birth of a new black hole.
Immense amounts of energy are released during formations, and it is at the center
of a black hole, its singularity, that the laws of physics break down. As claimed by
NASA, during each formation of a black hole, the black hole will reach an event
horizon , where time appears to slow to an outside observer. See Figure 1 to view
the parts of a black hole. Eventually during formation, time will stop, the star will
not collapse anymore, and it will be frozen. To an outside observer, an object that
reaches the event horizon and falls into a black hole would appear to never fully
go in. This is because of the process called Spaghettification , which explains that if
a human were to fall in, the force of gravity of their feet would be millions of times
greater than the force on their head, so in a literal sense, they would stretch out
and become flat before going in. It would literally appear to be an illusion because
to the human falling in, time passes normally, yet slows for an outside observer.
Time was discovered to slow near black holes when it was observed that light
curves and bends when nearing a black hole. The only way to explain this bend is
with Einstein s theory of general relativity and his concept of space time. Space time
is the idea that space is actually a fabric that is warped by gravity. Einstein concluded
that space and time cannot be effected without

HAITI : A GOVERNMENT OF THIEVES PRESIDENT WANTS POLICE BRASS

Haitian President Jovenel Moise, a political novice sought to sag 14 high officials of
the Haitian Police Department. This news comes on the hill of an attack on the
President s motorcade in the north side of Haiti a few days ago where the people threw
rocks at the president s motorcade a la Maduro. The chief of the police, Mr. Michel
Ange Gedeon was summoned to the Haitian National Palace in Port au Prince
accompanied by two aides. Mr. Gedeon was received by President Moise flanked
by Wilson Laleau and Ardouin Zephirin, two of his senior advisors. The Chief of
the Police was presented with a list of people the president demanded that he fire
immediately, or else he would ask the Haitian Senate to terminate him. The president
reportedly told the chief: I control the majority of the Senate and I will see to it that
you are gone pronto.
This political faux pas by Jovenel Moise has raised eyes brows among international
observers especially members of the CORE Group, (a de facto caretaker of the
Haitian Government) whose members sought clarification from the President. Not

13. An Article About Public Defenders
Alexa Van Brunt, an attorney with the Roderick and Solange MacArthur Justice
Center at Northwestern Law School, wrote an article about public defenders. In it
she describes why those who cannot afford good lawyers are being misrepresented
by public defenders. The main idea she wants to drive home is that public
defenders are underfunded and extremely overworked by excessive caseloads.
Hence, they are providing a weaker defense for their clients. The US Department of
Justice indicates that in 2007 and about 73% of county public defender offices
exceed the maximum limit of cases (Brunt, 2015, para. 2). Public defenders are so
overwhelmed by cases that in some instances they can spend less than an hour per
case (Brunt, 2015, para. 3).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The justice system is designed in a way that the prosecutor and defense both
present their case to best of their capabilities. If people believe that they had the
opportunity to present their side of the story, then they tend to feel more positive
about the justice system as a whole. However, if one side is lacking resources to
afford good representation, then the court appoints an attorney, usually a public
defender. This defender ends up misrepresenting the defendant because of the lack of
resources to investigate each case properly and time to spear per case. Looking at the
first choice which talks about the rights of the individual versus the common good we
conclude that United States operate under the Crime Control Model which advocates
for swift prosecution of defendant in attempts to stop criminal activities from
reoccurring. However, if one is clearly misrepresented, then justice cannot be served.
In many cases individuals and their families lose faith in the justice system because
they see how insufficient it is. Such disbelief might correlate with increased
recidivism rates and national crime rates in general. The third point talks about the
choice whether to discover the truth or to resolve conflict. Here we touch upon
justice and representation as a whole, however, there cannot be justice for all if
certain groups of individuals are
14. Jack And Ralph In Lord Of The Flies
Imagine being stranded on an island with a group of people that you don t know.
Fighting for survival, what would you do? Would you try to create an organized
society or would you leave everyone to fend for themselves and make a chaotic
island? Similarly, in the Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of British
schoolboys gets stranded on an island when their airplane to safety from war crashes.
On the island, the boys are pulled between two very different leaders; Jack and
Ralph. Ralph tries to create a civilized island. He has meetings every day and gives
every boy a role or a job. At first he is the only leader as he is charismatic and
everyone likes him. However, as the other boys realize that there are no adults on the
island to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Golding demonstrates this in the text by creating a symbol that represented order,
morals and society, the conch shell. The conch was the main item holding the boys
together. In the beginning, when the boy s first landed, Ralph blows it and brings
the boys all to him. Also, the conch was one of the main reasons Ralph was initially
chosen as a chief. At the daily discussions that Ralph held, only someone who held
the conch could speak. However, as the book goes on the boys begin to disregard
the value of the conch more and more until they break it and kill a boy, Piggy,
along with it. In the scene, Piggy and Ralph go to Jack s tribe to ask them to return
Piggy s glasses which Jack stole from them. Jack becomes increasingly angry at the
accusation and throws a boulder at Piggy who is speaking with the conch, trying to
extract the last drop of the boy s moral duty, using the pure and shining white conch
as a beacon for their pity. It is described that when the conch breaks it exploded into a
thousand white fragments (Golding 181). As the conch is shattered, it represents the
complete and absolute destruction of society and order. It shows that the boys have
truly become savages . Golding wants to depict that anybody, even seemingly
innocent little children are capable of such acts of savagery. Golding agrees with the
enlightenment age thinker, Hobbes. Hobbes thought that humans in a state of nature
were naturally evil. Like Golding he thought in a place without society, people would
make a chaotic and primitive society, where everyone would fend for themselves and
do anything to survive. Moreover, Golding further demonstrates his point by creating
an argument between Ralph and Jack where they discuss whether they should
abandon the fire and hunt, or tend the

see children on the side of the road, smaller than my eight year old self and

children on this rural, high speed road? The likelihood of anyone pausing to answer
their plea is close to zero. Their dark faces soon vanish as the car rounds another

Did Thomas Jefferson give up his deeply held political values in order to purchase the
Louisiana Territory from the French (P. 2)? This is the major question that has led to
much debate within the early history of America (P. 1). Some historians argue that
Thomas Jefferson did, in fact, throw away his commitment to states rights and
constructionism by the large purchase of Louisiana for the U.S. (P.1). On the other
hand, some believe that President Jefferson supported his political beliefs, the
fortification of the republican government, with the Louisiana Purchase(P. 1).

Thomas Jefferson s presidency (P. 14). With the addition of the new territory to the
United States, President Jefferson secured the nation for generations, if not centuries
to come (P. 14). Jefferson was confident that purchasing the Louisiana Territory would
encourage the development of an upright Republican populace (P. 14). Surprisingly,
he had many reservations about his authority to purchase Louisiana, but that did not
stop him from laying the treaty before Congress (P. 19). He also knew that, by
purchasing Louisiana, the Federalists power might be lost, but he still pushed
forward with the treaty (P. 19). Although many historians criticize President Jefferson
for giving up his most visible political convictions by purchasing Louisiana, he knew
that it would double the size of the United States and ensure much land expansion for
the country (P. 20). He strongly believed that the new territory was essential to
national security (P. 21). In President Jefferson s mind, purchasing Louisiana secured
the virtues of Republicanism in an Empire of Liberty (P. 22). The Louisiana

Throughout this past summer I had the opportunity to work at a daycare. Although I
occasionally worked with the infants and toddlers and regularly watched the school
age children, the vast majority of my time was spent with a class of fifteen
preschoolers. Over the three months I spent with them, I watched them grow and
develop, learningfrom their teachers, peers, and own experiences. Although the
summer break meant that the children s learning experiences were less regulated
and rigorous than during other times of the year, they still developed socially and
cognitively. This allowed me to observe Vygotsky s theories being used both in
play and in a classroom setting. My charges would learn in the pattern explained by
Vygotsky s Zone of Proximal Development. Additionally, they would often use

The concept, which is quite intertwined with his concept of a More Knowledgeable
Other and is almost synonymous with the term scaffolding, describes the difference
between what a child can accomplish independently and what a child can
accomplish with assistance and reinforcement from a knowledgeable mentor. There
are three basic levels a child experiences as they learn a new skill. There is the
information they already know and fully understand, the material they are in the
process in learning and with which they need assistance, and the information they do
not know and are, perhaps, not ready to obtain. Vygotsky sees the Zone of Proximal
Development as the area where the most sensitive instruction or guidance should be
given allowing the child to develop skills they will then use on their own developing
higher mental functions. Vygotsky also views interaction with peers as an effective
way of developing skills and strategies

prosthetics will combine body, mind and machine to fix the broken. The goal of the
science of prosthetics is to restore the independence of amputees and allow them to
do everyday tasks necessary for life that we all take for granted. In the movie Star
Wars Episode V, Luke Skywalker replaced his amputated arm with a perfect bionic

However, now thirty years later the ideas are now a reality and the advances of this

look like an American girl. Amy s mother says that you may not look like an
American girl on the outside for Robert to like her, but if Robert really likes her,
he shouldn t care about appearances or how a girl looks, he should focus on
differences that s what makes a person unique as what her mother says to her

inviting Robert s family over for dinner, Amy, your favorite, he said, offering me the

insecure about her culture because, during dinner, Amy s mother hands her, her

Bengal army to fire a shot at a British soldier setting off a revolt against the British.
However, the circumstances of the events that unfolded are greatly debated as to
whether he was drunk when he shot the soldier and so on (209). However, for
Samad, Pande represents an unsung hero of eastern culture, preserving the culture of
Bengalfrom the British (215). Samad also views Pande as a name that he must live

live to the name and be successful in the military (76/77).

used him as a way of getting away from her old family and as a way of living a
double life; the life she lived at home (around her mother) and the life she lived

eventually becomes enamored with the idea of the rapture and being saved from
Gods fury and takes up the beliefs of Jehovah s Witness. He soon joins forces with
Clara s mother in an effort to bring Clara back to God in a last effort to save her. This
in turn drives Clara completely away from Ryan and her family (36). It was after all
this loss that she met Archie and for her, it seems he was her last man on Earth (38).

has his own signature drumstick and Vic Firth Harvey Mason Chameleon signature

musician to master all those instruments.
Since a young age Harvey Mason never had a problem picking up beats. He
remembers lying in bed at night, locking into the rolling groove of his mother s
washing machine, fluffing his pillow into a ball and playing along to it with his
fingers. Harvey started taking formal drum lessons at age 7, playing in school
groups eventually purchasing his first drum set at 16 years old. He played so
amazingly well that Atlantic City s Wonder Gardens Club proprietor, Sonny McCall,
got a unique permit just so the teenaged Mason could play there without any trouble.
Harvey proceeded with his musical training first at the Berklee School of Music, then

Everyone loves a freebie , from sweepstakes prizes to high street store coupons,
anything that s free is tends to find an audience. The realm of sports betting is no

across the Internet, but all may not what it seems. While on paper these offers may
seem all sweetness and light, given the sheer amount available and their often
sneaky terms and conditions, not all sportsbook bonuses are the same, nor do they
all represent a win win situation for players. Here in this article we are going to take

Sign up Bonus (also known as a Initial Deposit Bonus or Registration Bonus)
Sign up sportsbook bonuses are by far the most common form of sportsbook bonus.
Pretty much every online bookmaker offers them year round, and given the current
membership levels of many, they seem to work to entice new players. When a new
punter signs up for an online sportsbook operator they will hand out a bonus that
relates to a percentage of their first deposit. The percentage offered usually falls
between 50% and 200% and is of use most when it is fully maximised. This is
because seldom offer bonus provide players with the chance to claim as much.
Reload Bonuses
Reloaded bonuses can be seen as the type of bonus that allows winners to bounce
back and losers to keep losing. Working in a similar fashion to the previously
mentioned sign up sportsbook bonus, they reward players who continuously deposit
after registration. For example, should your bankroll be fast approaching zero,
making another deposit could provide you with a reload bonus that will help further
your game time. The catch with reload bonuses is that your bankroll often needs to
be below a certain threshold for them to come into effect.
Refer a Friend Bonuses

31. Natural Theology Was Under Deep Debate
In the 20th century the question of natural theology was under deep debate. While
the enlightenment had a deep confidence in gaining knowledge of God through
observation of the natural world, this attitude was deeply criticised in both
philosophy and theology. On the one hand Heidegger criticized this project as deeply
ontotheological confusing the distinction between beings and the Being of beings.
Moreover as a result of this enterprise, one was left with the philosopher s Godat best,
a god to which one could not praise, pray to or sacrifice. On the other hand Barth
lambasted it as denying the subjectivity of God, and submitting God to the same
kind of being as humans, reducing the creator to the realm of the created while
simultaneous denying the finitude and falleness of human rationality. For Barth
there could be no point of contact and the analogy of being of the medieval period
must be scrapped for the analogy of faith, an inbreaking from the top down miracle
of grace . But while Barth claims Natural theologyas an irrelevant for revelation,
Natural theology is the condition of possibility of the human side of revelation. This
will be shown through a critical examination of Barth s doctrine of revelation, an
appropriation of Jean Luc Marions phenomenology of revelation and an exploration
of Pannenberg s theological method.
In beginning to explore the possibility for a natural theology one must overcome its
most powerful opponent the theology of Karl Barth. As

IN NIGERIA BANKS (A CASE STUDY OF DIAMOND BANK PLC NIGERIA)
CHAPTER ONE
1.1BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Before the emergence of modern banking
system, banking operation was manually done which lead to a slow down in
settlement of transactions. This manual system involves posting transactions from
one ledger to another which human handles. Figures or counting of money which
should be done through computers or electronic machine were computed and counted
manually which were not 100% accurate thereby resulting to human errors. Most bank
then use only one computer in carrying out transactions which ameliorate the

Adoption of electronic banking which suppose to ease banking transactions rather
resulted to woes to customer. Most people complain of time wasted in banks. This
occurs when there is power failure in banks resulting to slow down in operation.
Another problem that emerged was that banks do not have information backup to
fall back on should there be any computer break down. In investing in electronic
banking, the country will need a large amount of financial resources in computer
technology, obviously, the resource is in short supply in Nigeria, couple with high
level of poverty. For an efficient functioning of electronic payment system, there
must be availability of infrastructural facilities such as electricity and
telecommunication network, however, power supply fluctuates and there is still
constant failure links in networks. Since early 2000s banks have been developing
and introducing payment cards for their customers as well as deploy ATM s cards.
Usage was however low due to lack of interconnectivity i.e. switching platform to
interconnect the ATM s for card holders.
1.3OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY This research work intends to assess the extent
of electronic payment in banking activities as well as identify the various types of
electronic banking. The researcher will also evaluate the major problems associated
with the development of

If you walk along Charing Cross Road from Tottenham Court Road you will come

tourist attraction in Central London. The Square is situated in the city of
Westminster and at its center is Nelson s column, which is surrounded by four lion
statues at its base. In the area there are a number of commemorative statues and
sculptures within the Square. Just as you reach the square on the left is a church
called St. Martin in the Fields. James Gibbs built the church from 1722 1724, in
honor of Saint Martin of Tours. It directly faces Trafalgar Squareand is separated from
the square by Charing CrossRoad. The church stands tall and is surrounded by

Some of the earliest information on the church dates back to 1222 over a dispute
between the Abbot of Westminster and the Bishop of Londonover who had sole
control over the church. The Archbishop decided in favor of Westminster so the
monks of Westminster Abbey began to use the church for their own personal use.
In 1542, Henry VIII rebuilt the church to keep plague victims from the area from
having to pass through his Palace of Whitehall. At this time in history, the church
isolated between the cities of Westminster and London so it was a good place to
keep the plague victims away from the rest of society. In 1606, James granted an
acre of land for a new churchyard. The building was enlarged eastwards, increasing
the length of the church by about half its original size (McMaster 105). The church
was built of brick and covered with stone facings. The roof was tiled and there was
now a stone tower with buttresses protruding from the back of the church. The
ceiling was slightly arched while the interior was filled with galleries on the north,
south, and west sides. In 1720, Parliament passed an act for the rebuilding of the
church allowing for a sum of up to 22,000 pounds to be raised to rebuild it (McMaster
50). A temporary church was constructed on the churchyard and partly on the ground
for the reformation of the church. The rebuilding commissioners selected

The Taming of the Shrew is a comedy/love story written by Shakespeare between
1590 and 1592. However, in the current era with new beliefs of men and women s
roles, The Taming of The Shrew is seen as pure misogyny. The plot of the play
follows the idea that Bianca, the youngest daughter, is a beautiful young girl with
lots of male attention and is eager to wed, though her wealthy father will not allow
it until her older hot tempered sister also has a suitor. Many modern films has been
made on this famous Shakespearean play, including; Taming of the Shrew directed

marriage and attempts to say no at the wedding although he kisses her before she

After reading further, I have noticed the use of onomatopoeia, which are words that
sound like what they signify. As a five year old you often are learning a lot about

Ma goes knock knock on the leg of the bed, then flomf flomf on the pillows, we use

uses his senses to create a new understanding of the world. I have also noticed the use
of analogies. An analogy is an extended comparison between two things, typically

Holland has a lot of windmills. But, little do you know they have a lot more

I m honestly just stunned with the work she has done. She came to Moore without

38. Religion In Metropolis
The mass industrialization of the Western World following the Great War and the
resulting rapid expansion in technological advancement is reflected in Lang s 1927
Metropolis through filmic techniques and deliberate symbolism. The use of these
techniques enhances the exploration of the tension between a utopian aspiration for a
mythical cohesion between man and machines, and its unachievable reality. The
industrial nature of the filmis first illustrated in the opening sequence, with a multiple
exposure shot highlighting the vast number of machines and their prevalence within
the film s context. This opening shot establishes an industrial basis for the film,
reflecting the increasing dependence of technology within an industrialist society....

This film reflects this tension through Maria and the imagery of the 2 deadly sins,
with the film s didactic nature challenging the removal of faith and religion from
society. Maria, pivotal to the plot of the film, is used as a symbol of religious
purity, her characterization deliberately challenged from other females in the film.
She appears through large doors, surrounded by run down children. Her light
clothing juxtaposes with the dark clothes of the orphans, furthering her symbol of
purity. She is given a Madonna like status, with her modest and plain costume while
the holds hands with the orphans furthers her Mother Mary like character. The
tension between religious faith and secularism is explored through the 7 deadly sins,
and the dance performed by these characters. Through the inclusion of these figures,
Lang is able to didactically explore the negative religious connotations of modernism
and the increasing prevalence of industrialization of the society of the time. As such,
the religious imagery of Maria and the inclusion of the 7 deadly sins furthers the
challenge of the secularistic society in 1920 s Post War developed

Summary
Artwork 1, The Coronation of the Virgin and Artwork 2, Christ Crucified were
created by Velazquez. Both pieces explore aspects of religion and spirituality.
Artwork 1 depicts the scene when Mary was crowned Queen of Heaven and Earth.
Mary is the mother of the King and the most highly favoured daughter of God. She
always obeyed God with her humbleness therefore Mary received the promised
Crown of glory that will never fade away, (Peter 5:4) as she shared in all His
sufferings. This can be seen as a reward for her holiness and perfection of virtues. In
Artwork 2, the image focuses on the crucifixion of Jesus, reminding the viewer of the
sacrifice he made for this sins of humanity.
In Artwork 1, Mary is placed in the centre of the image between Christ who is on the
left and God who is on the right. The Holy Spirit is between the two which forms the
Holy Trinity. The composition can be viewed as forming an inverted triangle or
heart shape. Mary is the focal figure with an attitude of modesty, reverence and
tranquil emotion with her right hand placed upon her heart in which reinforces
this. God is expressed as a picture of wisdom as He is crowning the head of Mary
with a garland of roses, along side Jesus. The Holy Spirit is present in the image
above Mary and is portrayed in the traditional form of a white dove. Cherubs,
angelic beings, are visible at the base of the painting which can be interpreted as
guards. The use of blue in their garments symbolising heavenly grace in

The marble statue of Diadoumenos is a copy of the original bronze statue
displaying a young man tying a fillet around his head. The original was created in
c.a. 430 B.C. by a man called Polykleitos of Argos. Polykleitos was a Greek sculptor
who worked during the mid fifth century B.C. . he was one of the most famous artists
of the ancient world. Polykleitos figures are carefully designed with special attention
to bodily proportions and stance. The statue of Diadoumenos has its thorax and pelvis
tilt in opposite directions, setting up rythmic contrasts in the torso that create an
impression of organic vitality. The position of the feet, (poised between walking and

Polykleitos sculpture of Diadoumenos similarly relates to some of the most famous
sculptors, like Praxitiles statue of Hermes amp; Dionysos, in that they both display

sculpture that they are balancing and supporting, dont fall off, since marble is very
heavy and can easily break apart in bad weather or with physical contact.
The two statues of Diadoumenos and Hermes amp; Dionysos differ in that all
Polykleitos sculptures were 8 heads tall, where as all Praxiltiles sculptures were 9 10

Praxitiles sculpture of Hermes amp; Dionysos.

A Ponzi Scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of alleged returns
to existing investors from funds contributed by new investors. Ponzi scheme
organizers often seek new investors by showing potential in their company; they
entice investors to invest funds in opportunities claimed to generate high returns with
little or no risk. In many Ponzi schemes, the fraudsters focus on attracting new
money to make promised payments to earlier stage investors and to use for personal
expenses, instead of engaging in any legal investment activity. The system is destined
to collapse because the earnings are less than the payments to investors. Ponzi
schemes tend to collapse when it becomes difficult to recruit new investors or when a

Second, the scheme will begin to collapse under its own weight as the investment
slows and the promoter starts having problems paying the promised returns, the
higher the return on investment the greater is the risk of the Ponzi scheme
collapsing. Such crises often trigger panics, as more people start asking for their
money. Third, the external market forces, such as a sharp decline in the economy,
may cause many investors to withdraw part or all of their funds; not necessarily
due to loss of confidence in the investment, but simply due to the market meltdown.
The SEC investigates and prosecutes many Ponzi scheme cases each year both to
prevent new victims from being harmed and to maximize the recovery of assets to
investors. During 2009, the SEC filed 60 enforcement actions involving Ponzi
schemes or Ponzi like payments. Two recent popular Ponzi schemes are, first,
Robert Allen Stanford and his companies with allegedly conducting an $8 billion
Ponzi scheme. And second, Bernard L. Madoff, who orchestrated a multi billion

Stanford was a prominent financier, philanthropist, and sponsor of professional

46. Early Renaissance Vs. Renaissance Architecture
Early Renaissance architecture began in the early years from 1400 1500. During this
era, classicism played a huge role in architectural ideas as well as religious,
secularization, and humanist influences. This differed architecture from that time
period to later mannerist architecture. Mannerism derived from late renaissance
architecture and continued through the early Baroque era in the years 1520 1600.
The influences that changed the views on early architecture were the Sack of Rome,
the Copernican model of the universe, and the Protestant Reformation. The view in
architecture during these two time periods were quite different yet contained
similarities due to the emerging work that was inspired from early renaissance and
into later mannerism.
The spirit of their revolutionary painting, sculpture, and architecture arose from the
new Renaissance worldview of humanism (and its accompanying condition of
secularization), which celebrated rationality and individuality and mankind s ability
to make an act upon empirical observations of the physical world. Humanist scholars

Early Renaissance means rebirth, in this case rebirth of Greek and Roman culture.
The traditional views of the Renaissance emerged as a result of the fall of
Constantinople in 1453. If the fall of Constantinople would not have occurred,
47. Henry Jenkin s Transmedia Storytelling
Riverdale is a television series that is based on the Archie comic books and can be
considered an example of transmedia storytelling according to Henry Jenkin s
criteria in his article Transmedia Storytelling 101. The series follows Archie
Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Jughead, characters from the Archie
comic books, as the town of Riverdale is dealing with the aftermath of Jason
Blossom s death. Riverdale puts a mysterious and dark twist on the Archie comic
books. However, the characters and setting carryover from the comic books, which
creates the argument that Riverdale could be considered an example of transmedia
storytelling. Riverdale is an example of Henry Jenkin s transmedia storytelling as it
expands the market for Archie... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The show permits people who have never read the Archie comic books to enjoy it,
but it still has elements from the comic books that people will enjoy too. Henry
Jenkin s in his blogpost Transmedia Storytelling 101 states, Transmedia storytelling
practices may expand the potential market for a property by creating different
points of entry for different audience segments (Jenkins). As seen in the case of
Riverdale, the market surrounding the Archie comic books is expanding from the
comic books to a television series based on the comic books. Riverdale appeals to a
teen and young adult demographic and this allows for people who may not have
grown up with the Archie comics to become familiar with the characters. It also
provides a darker series of events than what was portrayed in the Archie comics
which may appeal to a different audience than the comics. Additionally, viewers of
the television series who have never read the comic books may start reading them
because of their interest in the television show. Accordingly, people who are fans
of the comic books may be drawn to Riverdale because it is based on the comic
books. Therefore, this creates several entry points for people to become involved in
Riverdale and the Archie comic

49. Essay On Sri Aurobindo
Political Life
Sri Aurobindo s life can be divided into two clear phases. The first relates to political
activism and the second to spiritual activism.
Aurobindo s political career lasted only four years, from 1906 to 1910. Though he
had been active behind the scene surveying, organizing and supporting the nationalist
cause, ever since his return to India, especially during his excursions to Bengal.
In 1905 an event occurred that changed the course of Indian history and the freedom
movement. This was the Partition of Bengal by Lord Curzon, known as Banga
bhanga, which immediately created a tremendous reaction in the whole of India and
particularly in Bengal. The whole of Bengal galvanised into activity.
Sri Aurobindo resigned his job in Baroda and moved to Calcutta. For five years, from
1905 to 1910, he shone like a meteor in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having returned to India to join the Baroda service, Sri Aurobindo immediately set
about writing on politics. A brilliant writer, his first series of articles was published
in a journal called Indu Prakash, in which he castigated the moderate leadership of
the Congress. He said that their policy of prayer, petition and protest would lead
nowhere. What was needed was a revolutionary movement against the British. A born
revolutionary, Sri Aurobindo revolted against the British and the Congress leadership
This change was affected by the advent of the aggressive nationalist thought of
Lokmanya Tilak who declared that swaraj was his birthright and Bipin Chandra Pal
who demanded complete autonomy from Britain. However none went as far as
Aurobindo in articulating the legitimacy and necessity of complete independence. He
based his claim for freedom for India on the inherent right to freedom, not on any
charge of misgovernment or
50. Critical View Of The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter from a Freudian Psychoanalytical Point of View When looking at
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne from a Freudian psychoanalytical critical
view, it can be seen that Pearl represents the id, Dimmesdale represents the superego
and Hester represents the ego. The id is the aspect in a literary piece that urges
immediate gratification and does not always act consciously. Pearl represents the id
because her naГЇve inner child prevents her from realizing right from wrong and she
acts without thinking. The superego is the character that reflects all the behaviors
and fears of society. Dimmesdale represents the superego as he punishes himself
beyond what is necessary as a result of his fear of what society will think of... Show

Hester represents the ego because she is the balance between right and wrong and
the balance between people in her life. Pearl represents the id because she is a
child and does not realize evil or the extent of her actions. The id is the
subconscience desire of what is want the most because it is the inner child who does
whatever it wants where ever it wants and it has no sense of conscience. Pearl acts in
naГЇve ways without recognizing actions as right or wrong. Pearl shows this when
she does not identify the A on Hester s chest as a bad thing. In one incident, Pearl is
playing in the water with eelgrass, and she makes an A with it. When her mother
tries to explain the symbol of the A, Pearl does not understand. Instead of relating the
A to sin, she relates it to Dimmesdale. Though Hester tries, it is the naГЇve conscious
of Pearl that keeps her from understanding the evil that the A represents. As
representing the id, Pearl shows little sign of a conscious. When she is upset she
cries and she lets her emotions take over, sometimes in violent ways. When Hester
brings Pearl to the governor s house, she sees other children on her way. These
children agitate Pearl. Pearl reacts in an approach that shows that she does not think
before she acts;
51. Blood Of Plasma And Formed Elements
Conclusion:
Blood consists of plasma and formed elements. Erythrocytes transport mainly
oxygen to all body tissues. Leukocytes protect the body against pathogens by direct
attack or by forming antibodies. Platelets play an important role in blood clot
formation. The heart is divided into four chambers. It acts as a double pump system.
The pulmonary circuit, which provides for gas exchange, is served by the right
atrium and right ventricle of the heart. The systematic circuit, which supplies blood to
all body tissues, is served by the left atrium and left ventricle of the heart. For each
heartbeat, the P wave indicates the atrial depolarization, the QRS complex reflects the
ventricular depolarization, and the T wave reflects the ... Show more content on

Discussion:
Lab 4: blood consists of two major components: plasma, which is 90% water and
nonliving fluid matrix, and formed elements, which are living cells suspended in the
plasma. Erythrocytes, Leukocytes, and platelets are the three types of the formed
elements. Erythrocytes, or red blood cells, contains hemoglobin molecules and plays
an important role in oxygen (and small amount of carbon dioxide) transportation.
Leukocytes, or white blood cells, helps defending the body and are part of the
immune system; there are five types of Leukocytes: neutrophils, eosinophils,
basophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes. Each type has a unique function in
defending the body against any pathogens. Neutrophils are the most abundant,
monocytes are the largest, lymphocytes are the smallest, and basophils are the least
abundant leukocytes. Platelets play an important role in blood clot formation. The
heart consists of four chambers: right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium, and left
ventricle. The heart acts as a double pump. The pulmonary circuit is served by the
right atrium and ventricle, they pump the deoxygenated blood, coming from all body
tissues through the superior vena cava and inferior vena cava, to the lungs to unload
carbon dioxide and upload oxygen, and then enter the left atrium of the heart. The
main function of the pulmonary circulation is to allow for gas exchange. The
systematic circulation carries the oxygenated blood from the left side of the heart and

52. Flex Crew Essay
In a large city, full of diverse people, finding a musical performance is not hard to
come by. Luckily, as I was searching online for different performances I ran across
The Flex Crew performing at Skully s music diner. I have been to Skully s once
before to watch a folk band perform. The atmosphere was a lot different than when
we saw The Flex Crew. Obviously, the genre of musicwas a lot different, along with
the atmosphere of the crowd. I was very surprised by the number of people in the
bar that evening. Mostly, because the performance started at 11PM and the world
series was on. On top of this, online their website said the show began at 10PM, but
like a very great band they came out at their own pace. In the meantime, there was
a DJ performing to keep the crowd alive. The Flex Crew is a reggae band from the
Columbus area. After doing a little research I learned they are known as the best
reggae band in the Midwest.
A friend and I went to Skully s Music Diner on Sunday night to watch The Flex
Crew. Their band consisted of seven members, and they all varied on the different
type of instruments. Some were strictly on vocals, while others were on guitars,
drums, pianos, etc. On top of this, the band was very diverse in regards to their
playing and singing. Yes, there was a main guitarist and a main singer, but throughout
the songs they all grabbed different instruments and sang different pieces of the
songs. I also learned they originated from Columbus and have been
53. Taking a Look at Joan of Arc
For centuries women have been discriminated against and perceived as either
housewives or maids. There have been so many stereotypes suggesting that some
women actually believe they are inferior to men. The actuality of this is women are
capable of most things men can do and even more. One of the absolute greatest
examples of this theory was Joan of Arc. She started a movement that most men
could never dream of creating. Without her France might have submitted to
English rule centuries ago. Joan of Arc was a courageous, divine woman who
altered French history and even influenced many of today s events. FIrst, before
comprehending Joan s significance one must understand the environment in
which she grew up. Almost eighty years before Joan was born, Edward III of
England refused to give respects to Phillip VI of France. As a result of this
intolerable act Phillip VI withdrew the lands of Aquitaine, which were given as a
gift, from the English. When news of this thievery reached Edward III he angrily
claimed himself king of the French. Conflicts between the Kingdom of England
and the French Empire escalated. By 1337 war was declared and the Hundred
Years War began. The Hundred Years War is divided into three different phases
resulting from treaties and conflicts. These three phases are The Edwardian Era War,
The Caroline War, and The Lancastrian War. Joan spent most of her life during The
Lancastrian War (English decline in France). In 1415, King Henry V of England
