Binge eating disorder can indirectly lead to renal failure. Binge eating causes an imbalance of solutes and water in the blood, making kidney stones more likely to form. If a kidney stone blocks the ureter, it can destroy the kidney tissue over time, progressing to renal failure. Left untreated, renal failure is life-threatening as the body becomes poisoned by built-up waste products that cannot be filtered from the blood by failed kidneys. The only treatment option at this stage may be a kidney transplant.
