US Ignite is a public-private partnership that aims to foster the development of next-generation Internet applications. It plans to accomplish this by assembling partners from government, academia and industry; raising awareness of its initiatives; and stimulating the creation of compelling applications in areas like healthcare, education, transportation and more. US Ignite will coordinate test beds and share best practices to help pioneers create transformative applications that push the boundaries of what is possible on ultra-high-speed networks.

- We’re at a time in our country’s history when we need to build the interstate system all over again. But if we truly built the internet’s ultrafast interstate now, it would be like having an auto interstate for a population that only drives horses and buggies or Tin Lizzies. We aim to “ignite” and connect the various parties in building truly compelling, next-gen applications that can run on top of the ultra-fast networks. To do this, US Ignite is the “+”s in this equation. We are the conveners of the communities and their needs with the providers of new technologies that address those needs – and we coordinate to help match the right resources to create the applicationsUS Ignite’s priority areas are healthcare, education, advanced manufacturing, energy, and
- Ecosystem: We use five approaches to facilitate creation of next-generation applications, including: 1. University applications funded by NSF grants over the past four years.2. Corporate lab or value-added developer initiatives.3. Community-led apps to meet specific community problems.4. US-Ignite-generated ideas that have evolved as a result of its clearinghouse role. 5.
