Bill Of Rights Essay
Writing an essay on the subject can prove to be quite challenging, primarily because of the
breadth and depth of the topic. The Bill of Rights encompasses a range of constitutional
principles and legal concepts that require thorough research and analysis to effectively cover in
an essay.
Firstly, understanding the historical context and significance of the Bill of Rights is crucial. This
involves delving into the circumstances surrounding its creation, the debates among the framers,
and its role in shaping American democracy.
Additionally, dissecting each amendment within the Bill of Rights demands careful examination.
Each amendment presents its own set of complexities, interpretations, and implications, which
must be thoroughly explored and synthesized to provide a comprehensive understanding.
Moreover, addressing contemporary issues and debates related to the Bill of Rights adds another
layer of complexity. Analyzing how these amendments apply in modern contexts, such as
privacy rights, freedom of speech, gun control, and due process, requires critical thinking and
nuanced argumentation.
Furthermore, crafting a coherent and persuasive essay necessitates organizing thoughts logically,
providing sufficient evidence and examples to support arguments, and engaging with opposing
viewpoints effectively.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on the Bill of Rights is undoubtedly challenging, it is also
intellectually stimulating and rewarding. It demands a deep understanding of history, law, and
contemporary society, as well as strong analytical and writing skills to effectively convey
complex ideas.

The cultivation manufacturing would create a higher quality and capacity which
means a maximization of potency. If the animal and agriculture commodity
productions concentrated on competence, such ability could be very advantageous to
the producer, purchasers, and environment as a totality. Genetically altered foods
enable biotech corporations to form a collaboration with tenants by utilizing the
technology accessible on our support. If these businesses were to use genetically

nutritious vitamins for all. Much of the extensive deliberations on farming

I Am A Brother Of The Great Pharaoh
My name is Meritamen. I am the daughter of the great Pharaoh, Rameses II or
otherwise known as Rameses the Great. It is said that though I am only eleven
years old, my father greatly favors me. Many tell me of my beauty and how lucky I
am to be such a great man s daughter. I am told that I am even more lucky than my
other siblings because my father likes me so much, and out of the hundreds of
children he has, I am a favorite! Today, I wake up to my ladies rushing me to get
dressed. I look around and see that they have some of my nicer gowns laid out, as
well as my favorite wig and my more exquisite jewelry on display. What s going
on? I wonder if we have guests coming. As I step out of bed, I hear my ladies
whispering. We can never be sure, but why not have her look her best, just in case
the rumors are true? You hold a valid point, but if the rumors aren t true, don t you
think Rameses will be suspicious? Suspicious of what? This is all so confusing.
Am I not as beautiful as people tell me? No, people do not lie to royalty. Wise
people dare not, at least. How can they not be true? He looks at her with real favor,
and she would be a good queen to Egypt. Ah. So there have been more rumors that
my father wishes to wed me, though I doubt they have any real backing to them.
While its not exactly ideal to marry your father, I can t argue that being a queen
wouldn t have its perks. As for now, I m not going to concern myself with it. I have
some studying to do, and I have
Alvarez
Alvarez: A Case Study
I. Executive Summary
Alvarez, a mechanic in Canalven, has been with the company for 25 years and is
five years away from retirement. He is good at his tasks and has a good
understanding of the machineries, displayed by his ability to develop high quality
machines for the plant use. He is very energetic and very proud of his job and his
capabilities, so proud that he inscribes his name in bright yellow to every machine
that he developed and assembled. This caught the attention of Stone, a young but
experienced engineer who was new to the company and was assigned to supervise
the skilled workers, including Alvarez. Alvarez did not believe in the leadership and
abilities of Stone, who made mistakes and delays in ... Show more content on

Point of View
The group have adopted Pinto s point of view given that he is the one tasked to make
the decision concerning Alvarez.
V. Areas of Consideration A. Alvarez s performance and past contributions to the
company B. The existing policies of the company in relation to rewards and
recognition for the workers C. The economic cost of the decision to the company D.
The effect of the decision to Alvarez and to the other workers E. The effect of the
decision to the integrity of the management F. The effect of the decision to the overall
business productivity and competitiveness
VI. Analysis / Assumptions * Alvarez identifies himself with Canalven as
evidenced by the length of time he has worked for the company. It is possible that
Canalvens may be the reason he was working in Venezula instead of Columbia.
The pride he felt in being so good at building and fixing machines also indicates
that his work holds a big part of his identity, his personal definition of who he was.
* Alvarez is a person with high narcissism, that is, he has a grandiose of his own
importance and requires excessive admiration. He has a sense of entitlement and
tends to be arrogant as portrayed in his reaction when a welder asked him if he was
not afraid of being fired. He is often difficult to work with and may have a false
sense of his effectiveness as manifested by his sustained grumbling. *
Autism Spectrum Analysis
Autism can be a mysterious topic, with a black box of information scientists have
been trying to open for years. But today, people know a lot more about the inner
workings of ASD. Some interesting facts and statistics are that the most obvious
signs of autism occur at a very young age, usually 2 3 years old, and 1 in every 68
children have been diagnosed with it (What is autism?). The cause of this disorder is
found in the brain, where their mind map is scrambled. This means that there are
abnormalities in the cerebellum, brain stem, limbic system, and frontal cortex
(Albano). In addition, the word autism comes from the greek word autos , which
means self. This is due to the fact that autistic people seem self absorbed (Autism
Spectrum... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their actions are described in area one: but the causes of these social behaviors are
harder to find out. It is known that when they re pushed beyond the limits, or have
overloaded senses, they can in a way start to ignore the world around them. Albano
describes Grandin s own personal experience on this same topic, saying, I pulled
away when people tried to hug me, because being touched sent an overwhelming
tidal wave of stimulation through my body...when noise and sensory over
stimulation became too intense, I was able to shut off my hearing and retreat into
my own world. There s a possibility that another reason why autistic people have
foreign reactions is that their vision might be distorted. While autistic humans are
certainly nowhere near being blind otherwise they wouldn t be visual learners they
do feel objects a lot, to understand what the boundaries are in our complex world
(Albano). As has been said, people with autism don t understand things like puns and
metaphors. This is because they like logic and when things are cogent. Jeff Hudale
claims to like numbers, namely math computations, which is common in autistic
people, especially those with Asperger s. This is because of that logical thinking. It
is also why social interactions are such a struggle for people with autism: There are
no rules applied (Hamilton). Since it s so hard to communicate, autistic people try to
say what they mean in other ways. To illustrate, when someone with ASD starts
having a meltdown, one can try to find the source of their upset mood, therefore
understanding what s bothering them without the person even having to explain what
s wrong. The result is an outburst instead. Every action for autistic people is a form
of communication that they can t say with words. It may only be a small inkling of
what they mean, but if one notices something that usually happens before a
Why Should Child Beauty Pageants Be Banned
It s on you, the whole thing, all the money, all the work. It s on you . This is what
one mother said to her 4 year old daughter before sending her on stage. Imagine if
you had a beautiful little girl and you decided to spray tan her, dress her
provocatively, tweeze her eyebrows, give her fake hair, nails, teeth and pounds of
makeup. Is this really how a little girl should be raised? A childbeauty pageant is a
beauty contestfor children younger than 16. The girls are judged based on
individuality in looks, capability, poise, perfection and confidence, which the judges
call, the complete package . The contestants compete to win a variety of prizes and
trophies: the trophies being taller than the girls themselves. In my opinion, child
beauty pageants should be banned, as they are destructive to childhoods and futures.
Pageants teach young contestants to value physical beauty over inner beauty. They

So much poison goes into these young bodies both orally and topically. In order for
mums to keep their princesses from becoming sleeping beauties a pageant
necessity is sugar, commonly referred to as pageant crack . The extent to which
mums go to to keep their daughter energised is shocking. For example, one 6 year
old contestant has been seen drinking a mixture of mountain dew and red bull while
another was having plain sugar packets dumped down her throat. These poor pre
schoolers are also subjected to many unhealthy chemicals, including hair spray, make
up and fake tan. Two year old Paten has been spray tanned 50 times in her short life.
A childhood of this pattern can lead to many devastating effects down the road,
such as chemical exposure and eating disorders. I need to watch what I eat, but
sometimes I do get hungry , claims an 8 year old contestant. Studies show that girls
as young as seven years old have been diagnosed with anorexia and some pageant
girls reporting high ratings in body
Jimmy Cross Analysis
In the war, it often thought that soldiers, go to a country to keep peace in that part
of the world. Unfortunately that is not always the case;during these tours ,soldiers
die everyday from cultural violence, and misguided information by their superiors
and in this story that has occurred. Jimmy Cross is characterized as a man who is
filled with emotion and the loss of one of his men. Cross carried a compass,

The first layer was the necessities, such as food, lighters, canteens full of water, and
clean clothes. Necessities are very important when thinking about how the soldiers
kept up with their physiological needs. The next layer of the types of objects they
carried, would be their weapons and safety equipment. These are significant
because it not only kept them safe but, helped them feel safety and security
emotionally. The next layer consists of objects that are best described as personal.
These items are, but not limited to photos, good luck charms, and other items that
have an emotional toll on the person who the item belongs to. These items are
significant because it shows their humanity toward others and to themselves. The
last layer and by far the heaviest burden the men carried, were their emotional
baggage. They carried all the emotional baggage of men who might die. Grief,
terror, love, longing these were intangibles .(O brien,pg.9) Jimmy Cross, held and

Human Exploration Vs Space Exploration
Only recently I saw Elon Musk s speech about the future of SpaceX and theirs plans
on sending manned mission to Mars in a decade or less. This got me thinking on the
achievements of mankind in exploring the universe in the last 30 or more years.
What I thought was completely different than what my grandpa was thinking about
the future when the Apollo Mission was landing into the moon. It is easy to realize
how space explorationis deepened on two factors, cost and geopolitical reasons[1],
maybe the second one affects the first one in a way, but this is a different story. At
the end, I came up with a big debate on my mind. This is humanexploration vs robotic
exploration. It is obvious how the second one has dominated the field for years now
and I totally agree with that. However, at some point in the future both human and
robotic exploration should be combined. As mentioned earlier, many experts claim
that space exploration is depended on geopolitical reasons. The money governments
will spend is thus, in a way, not depended on curiosity about the universe or any
other reason, but in the rivalry between countries. As a result, cost is a primary factor
of space exploration. NASAback in the 60s rejected a manned mission to mars due to
the extreme cost, and has been rejecting it since now based on the same old
calculations[2]. On the other hand, robotic exploration is much cheaper. There have
been notable examples such as Cassini, Pathfinder, Curiosity etc. All these missions
The Attitude of a Hacker in Kevin Mitnick s The Art of...
Kevin Mitnick, The Condor, The Darkside Hacker, The greatest hacker alive,
whatever name he was given that pins him down as a perpetrator of the law, Kevin
Mitnick still serves as an educator to enthusiasts in the world of Information Security.
He unveils many secrets of the hacker in The Art of Deception. The Art of Intrusion
takes a different twist from its predecessor. It looks at the attitude of the hacker and
what drives them.
Personally the book lacked the full degree of intrusions one is capable of. Looking at
the resume Kevin Mitnick has, successful intruder, phenomenal social engineer, most
wanted of the law, caught and convicted criminal, security consultant and finally
company CEO, one would have expected his personal experiences and intrusions that
finally landed him as the greatest hacker ever known by the media. With this the
book lacked some sort of uniqueness because it was based on other stories of
intrusions.
Mitnick took different stories and merged lots of information through them which
in turn ended up being more of an introduction course to types of security breaches
than an in depth look at how hackers can breach security. This showed some form
of incompleteness especially to a technical audience. For the non technical it serves
as a good read but not much is learnt and gained by the technical audience so I feel
the target audience was blurred out. The stories seemed very fictional which again
raised the suspicion of whether they were really true or

How Chik Shampoo was born
He named it Chik Shampoo after my father. The product did not succeed
immediately; they learnt many things during the process. In the first month, they
could sell 20,000 sachets and from the second year, they started making profits.
He moved to Chennai in 1989 but their manufacturing unit continued to be in
Cuddalore. It took him three years to get the first loan because banks asked for
collateral. He did not have any. But one particular bank gave him a loan of Rs 25,000
which we rotated and later upgraded to Rs 400,000, Rs 15 lakh (Rs 1.5 million), etc.
The bank manager wrote in their loan application This person does not have any
collateral to offer but there is something interesting about this SSI unit. Unlike others,
this company pays income tax!
His business never looked back because he was very particular about paying income
tax.
Strategies that made Chik Shampoo No. 1 in South India
When Chik entered the market, Velvette Shampoo was being marketed aggressively
by Godrej . But a scheme of theirs became extremely successful they exchanged five
sachets of any shampoo for a Chik Shampoo sachet, free.
Later, they altered the scheme they started giving one free Chik Shampoo sachet in
lieu of five Chik Shampoo sachets only. Soon, consumers started asking for Chik
sachets only. Their sales went up from Rs 35,000 to Rs
Why Were Thales Able To Measure Triangles
Thales had a variety of interest and had created theorems and other rules that are
now used in today s world. He was mostly known for being a mathematician and
astrologist he was also a genius in these fields of work. He is also known as the
Seven Greek Sages which are men known throughout history for their knowledge
and wisdom. He was also known for his hypothesis that he tested and turned out to
be experimented with ending with being theories. He was also a well known genius
in the mathematics field for his work in how to measure triangles. In this essay
Thales will be introduced from his backstory, his mathematics achievements, and
what he was mostly known for throughout his whole life. Thales came from Miletus,
Turkey in 624 B.C.; his father and mother were well known throughout where he
lived. There is not much backstory known of Thales so there is not much
information to be given. He was mostly seen as a mathematician and astrology;
however, his actual career was a successful engineer. He had made many theories that

He worked mostly on the different types of triangles and was inspired to work with
these shapes because of the pyramids of Egypt. He was interested in measuring the
height, width, and how to measure the pyramids of Egypt s shadows and how it
changes. He then started using formulas that are now known as Pythagorean
theorem and started working on how to measure the pyramids. With these
inventions and rules created by Thales, it has helped the Math field in today s
world by making life easier. These rules have made us discovered how to work
smarter, it has helped us measure the pyramids and other architecture s. Another
example, was that he went to visit the pyramids of Egypt to begin his idea of the
equation and he began measuring what he needed to. He used geometry to solve the
measurement of the pyramids by measuring the height and
Racism Today in the United States
Racism Today in the United States After living in a place like Bend Oregon for 18
years I haven t ever noticed a difference between blacks and whites. Bend has been
said to be one of the whitest places to live , yet I never viewed a city by its race.
Being racist to me meant that it was the whites who had a problem with the blacks
and whites didn t want anything to do with blacks. I hadn t actually seen racismin
action from anyone here. Now, after watching the film Crash and reading the essays

It s almost as if racism is becoming a huge excuse for problems that are happening
in this world. Racism is the belief that race accounts for differences in human
character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others (Dictionary). I
never viewed racism as blaming things on skin color but that s what it is. Racism is
based on a skin color and culture, not on school shootings and world events. To say
that two African Americanteens organized a school shooting because all the people
in his school were being racist towards him and everyone noticed those racist acts
that would make sense. To say that when two white teens started acting differently
and everyone still saw them as normal would have been caught if they were black,
doesn t make sense. Those teens, whether their skin color was black or white, still
would have been viewed as teens just going through a phase .
With the stereotype that teenagers fall into no matter what their skin color, people
will jump to conclusions and suspect them of something. When it comes to that
particular age group they are in the process of trying to find who they really are, all
teens start acting differently. They go through these phases trying to find which
phase or lifestyle fits who they feel they truly
Yeats And The Salley Garden Essay
They (the great writers) were national first ... and it was the intensity of their own
nationalism which made them international. (Power 65) As Maud Gonne said
without Yeats there would have been no Literary Revival in Ireland. Without the
inspiration of that revival and glorification of beauty and heroic virtue I doubt there
would have been an Easter week (24). Yeats was born in 1865 near Dublin in Ireland
and through his literary work contributed in the cultural nationalism of Ireland. He
imagined an Ireland that took shape as modern Ireland. He tried to unify the nation
by substituting religious beliefs of the sectarian and class loyalties with the
nationalistic sentiment. He tried to define the importance of love and death in

Yeats edited by John P. Frayne. To define Irish literature, the first article begins thus:
Some of my countrymen include among (sic) national writers born in Ireland but I
prefer, though it greatly takes from the importance of our literature, to include and
of Irish subjects, when once a country was given perfect expression to itself in
literature, has carried to maturity its literary tradition, its writers, no matter what
they write of, carry its influence with them, just as Carlyle remained a Scotsman
when he wrote of German kings or French, and Shakespeare an Elizabethan
Englishman when he told of Coriolanus or Cressida. (Frayne 360) In his youth he
excluded Swift, Sterne, Burke and Berkeley from his list of Irish tradition but
afterward he declared them as his predecessors. He favoured genuine literature but
was against any kind of propaganda. He excluded Thomas Moore, Thomas Davis
and John Mitchel inspite of the presence of nationalism in their poetry because they
used English method in their poetry and did not contributed in enriching Irish literary
tradition. He praised Callanan for developing a new kind of verse with its source
from the Irish tradition. The poets who contributed in enriching Irish tradition were

Judgment of Io and Callisto
The uncompassionate nature of the mighty Olympian Gods leads to the hardships of
two maidens; Io and Callisto as described in Ovid s Metamorphosis. The struggles of
both maidens; one a mortal and the other a divine nymph are fairly similar but have
subtle differences. Bothwere victims of a sexual violence committed by Jupiter; were
punished by his jealous wife Juno; were changed into animals by the Gods. The
terrible treatment by the Gods and the uncompassionate attitude of the divine towards
them is a theme shared in the two stories. Helpless, Io and

Throughout the two myths it is clear that the Gods have no regards for these two
maiden s lives and morals. They have an uncompassionate attitude towards Io and
Callisto. As leader of the Gods and having no one to hold him accountable for his
actions, Jupiter rapes both maidens with no regard to what the consequences his
actions will have on Io and Callisto. Jupiter, seeing her there weary and
unprotected, said Here, surely, my wife will not see my cunning, or if she does find
out it is, oh it is, worth a quarrel!? (prior to the rape of Callisto). However,
Jupiter is not the only one who displays that same attitude toward the maidens.
Juno s jealousy and frustration in her inability to control her husband s infidelities
leads her to alter Io and Callisto s fates by punishing them for her husband s
actions. She is vengeful with no regard to those she punishes. The Gods, Jupiter
and more specifically Juno display a cruel mind set toward these women. When
Jupiter transforms Io into a heifer, she is still able to remember her former life as a
human: she licked her father s hand and kissed his palm, could not hold back her
tears, and if only words could have come she would have begged for help, telling
Battle Of Stalingrad Turning Point
The Battle of Stalingrad was the successful Soviet defense of the city of Stalingrad
(present day Volgograd) in the U.S.S.R during World War II. The battle for
Stalingrad was fought between the Soviet Union and the Axis of Germany, Romania,
Italy, Hungary, and Croatia from August 23, 1942 to February 2, 1943. The major
parts of the battle occurred in Eastern Europe in present day Ukraine and into the
Soviet Unionup to the Volga River which splits the city of Stalingrad. The battle of
Stalingradonly occurred because of Adolf Hitler s hatred for Soviet President
Joseph Stalin and the city being named after him. The city was not of importance,
as the German Sixth Army s mission was to seize the oil fields in the Caucuses to
the south of Stalingrad. Many historians consider the battle to be the single biggest
turning point of World War II as well as the deadliest battle in the history of warfare.

The Battle of Stalingrad was the most important battle on the eastern front that
ultimately changed Germany s momentum. Germany never won another battle for
the remainder of the war. It became known as the single biggest defeat of the

casualties in the history of warfare and produced more civilian casualties than the
civilian death toll from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There are
many lessons to be learned from this battle. Trusting your military commanders to

and Stalin and their Military Commanders. Had they left the political aspect of the
military decision making process, military commanders may have been able to run

The second model of culture usually assumes that there are several more fundamental
conflicts in the social order levels but still views the cultural system to be still

The third model is the columnisation that describes the fundamental antagonism that

Golden Booklet Of The True Christian Life Summary
Should a Believer s Life Evidence Growth?
John Calvin makes the assertion throughout his Golden Booklet of the True
Christian Life that a believer s life should show growth and spiritual progress.
According to the Christian teachings, Calvin s assertions are correct. Calvin argues
that because Christians believe that their lives belong to the Lord, they are to follow
His plan for their lives, strive to better the lives of others, and show appreciation for
God s blessings. The central idea that Calvin bases most of his claims on in his
booklet is the idea that Christians should walk in the beauty of God s law , so that
the claims of belief and trust in God that Christians make are exhibited outwardly in
the way that they live their lives (15). In theory, if believers do conduct their lives in
an effort to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is very clear that this includes both friend and foe (37). This is in itself an
embodiment of the first argument that people should live in an effort to fulfill
God s plan. If a person strives to encourage and help their fellow humans, Calvin
would argue that this is the very will of God. The outcome of their good intentions
should display relational growth in both their community and their personal lives.
By showing good will toward others, humans are displaying their appreciation for
God s creation, for He himself created humans. Calvin even goes so far as to say
that Christians should do more than just be nice to people; he says that they should
sympathize with them, and so their best to offer assistance or condolence in times of

Jared Diamond Collapse Summary
Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail Or Succeed Author: Jared Diamond
Published in New York, 2005 Pages: 570 Summary: This book follows the events of
several civilizations from the past and present, and how they either failed or
succeeded to survive. The book starts with the author talking about the Huls and
Gardar Farm, and how even though they were thousands of miles apart, they had
many similar strengths which made them the superior farm in the area. The author
then reveals that the Huls farm was a growing farm in the modern U.S. and the
Gardar Farm was a Norse farm in greenland that was abandoned over 500 years ago.
After revealing the differences between the two farms, Diamond then states that any

If we return to our five point checklist of factors to be considered in connection
with environmental collapses, two of those factors attacks by neighboring enemy
societies, and loss of support from neighboring friendly societies played no role in
Easter s collapse, because there is no evidence that there were any enemies or
friends in contact with Easter Island society after its founding.... For a role of a
third factor, climate change, we also have no evidence at present, though it may
emerge in the future. That leaves us with just two main sets of factors behind Easter
s collapse: human environmental impacts, especially deforestation and destruction of
bird populations; and the political, social, and religious factors behind the impacts,
such as the impossibility of emigration as an escape valve because of Easter s
isolation, a focus on statue construction for reasons already discussed, and
competition between clans and chiefs driving the erection of bigger statues requiring
more wood, rope, and food. (Jared Diamond, Pg.
Mere Christian Life
have often wondered throughout my life, as my literature and film interests grew
and expanded, where my lines should be drawn. How far is too far, and where do
excursions into more adult fiction turn from innocent interest into sin? I know that I
have fairly strict lines on when sexual content or humor becomes inappropriate, and
this is assisted by my lake of interest in the majority of genres that typically
showcase such things. Additionally, my interest in genres that showcase gratuitous
violence or cursing is also fairly minimal. However, I have always loved works of
fantasy, mythology, and even supernatural, which has, on occasion, upset my
grandparents. They would much prefer that my brother and I forgo Greek mythology
in favor of C.S. Lewis.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in my class at the same Christian school, I had friends who watching such
movies before middle school as well as friends who were not allowed to read Harry

that should be given for the comfort level of a person and their circumstances, I can t
imagine that there shouldn t be boundaries that a Christian puts in place for
themselves. Boundaries set up by the culture or time period are so changeable. When
my grandparents were young the church frowned upon playing cards, dancing,
attending the movies, and women wearing pants. Now, although remnants of those
beliefs remain, much of the Christian community in America has vastly different
opinions. If moral standards have changed in such things, how have they changed in
relation to the literature and media we consume? What is and isn t appropriate to set

The French and Indian War was also known as the Seven Years war. It started in
1756 and ended in 1763, the French and Indian war created a chapter in the
imperial struggle with France and Britain which was given the name of the Second

Impact Of ISIS On Society
It s hard to imagine how anyone reasonably well off in Australia will ever think to
join a terrorist organisation like ISIS. Yet, it turns out that this viral disease has
spread into the minds of too many people and many have taken themselves over to
Syria to fight for a group that regularly beheads people. ISIS has managed to recruit
people, mostly young Muslims and persuaded them that the regular beheading of
people is better than anything western society stands for. But how?
The answer isn t as simple as mental illness, awesome twitter brainwash techniques or
the irrefutable promise of cookies. That may be a part of it, but it goes much deeper
than that to the fundamental cause common to all young people joining radical
terrorist movements. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ragtime Vs. The Blues
В¬Ragtime vs. The Blues
In the city of New Orleans emerged one of the most influential music genres in
U.S. history. At the time, New Orleans was known for being a melting pot of
people or rather, a region where people from all over the world came together in
one place. This city served as a key seaport in the U.S. allowing for goods to be
imported and exported. The purpose of this city was not only strategic to the growth
of the country, but also, the atmosphere allowed for the incredible mixing of cultures,
customs, and traditions that led to the creation of one of our nations most cherished
genres of music: jazz.
Jazz emerged towards the beginning of the 20th century, but didn t just spring up out
of nowhere. Instead, it was a creation that developed from popular music styles of the
19th century that were blended and combined to entertain not only the social dancers,
but also, the nation as a whole. The two main music styles that jazz evolved from
were ragtime and the blues. Both ragtime and the blues had their beginnings in
African American communities. While both of these music styles strongly
contributed to the creation of jazz and have a lot of similarities, they do have their
differences. These differences lie within their origins, their instruments, the elements
of the music styles and how these elements influenced jazz, and their artists and
composers.
First of all, ragtime and the blues are similar in that they both originated in the United
States. While the
Ethics in International Business
Ethics is an incredibly important aspect of domestic business. Companies and
their employees need to be mindful of their decisions and actions, and how they
affect others. But when business is taken to the international and global level,
being conscious of ethics becomes absolutely vital. In order to be successful long
term, ethical practices must be followed, as well as having a level of social
responsibility. Companies or individuals who do not have a laid out, defined set of
values may find themselves compromising and taking unethical shortcuts to a profit.
Unethical business practices can seem like the easy way to reach goals, if looked at
with only short term perception. But when values are compromised, it often leads to
disaster in the long run. Richard Rudden, managing partner as Target Rock Advisors
in New York, is quoted saying, Ethicsand integrity are at the core of sustainable long
term success, without them, no strategy can work and, as Enron has demonstrated,
enterprises will fail. That s despite having some of the smartest guys in the room
(Silverstein, 2013). The United States has stricter laws governing business practices
considered unethical. For example, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)
prohibits payment of bribes to foreign government officials by US companies
(Griffin Pustay, 2013). Other first world countries, such as the United Kingdom, also
have laws governing business practices. These laws serve as guidelines making it

In The Skin Of A Lion Essay
What is history? Who gets to writes it? Can you be a part of it? History is an array
of fragmented stories clustered together to form a whole and power is the driving
force of storytelling, that is, those with a voice can be part of history. Michael
Ondaatje s 1987 novel, In the Skin of a Lion, challenges the notion that our great
human narrative is just singular written story and suggests, through a post colonial
context, that it is actually the micro narratives that create our collective history.
In the Skin of a Lion explores the importance of achieving a voice and how it
promotes individuals to challenge the dominant metanarrative allowing it to be re
written. Never again will a single story be told as though it were the only one ,

The fragmented structure of the novel emphasises the interconnectedness between
each individual setting and each individual character revealing the true
multidimensional structure of history. The marginalisation of immigrant workers
who are forbidden to speak their native tongue and their lack of power is
highlighted metaphorically in, perhaps they are not mute at all , emphasising the
initial dominance of the metanarrative. The notion of the helplessness of those
without a voice, is metaphorically depicted by Alice Gull s puppet show, it
stamped a foot to try and bring out a language , allegorically demonstrating the
impact of the power of language on the notion of storytelling. Patrick Lewis
develops his voice by recognising his role as a storyteller, depicted in the authorial
intrusion, his own life was no longer a single story but part of a mural , signifying
the relevance and necessity of micro narratives upon identity and the consequential
reshaping of the hegemonic metanarrative. Nicholas Temelcoff, a daredevil bridge
worker, is painfully aware of his anonymity to history until Patrick shows him a
photograph and he symbolically becomes aware of himself standing there within the
pleasure of recall... Patrick s gift...shows him...how he has been sewn into history , his
Juvenile Crimes Face Harsh Punishments
There are serious flaws with the way the US judicial system prosecutes juveniles.
Although there is a juvenile court system in place to try youth offenders, the way it is
being implemented is different between each state. In addition, some states even go
further and try youth offenders, depending on the crimethey committed, in an adult
criminal court. In recent years, juvenile crimes face harsh punishments in the US,
and the number of juvenile offenders sent to youth courts is decreasing, based on
the data ( The Sentencing Project Juvenile Justice, 2015). This decline of cases
being sent to the juvenile courts indicates that more cases of youth crime are being
transferred to adult courts. Trying a child as an adult contradicts to UN s rights of
the child as listed on FACT SHEET: A summary of the rights under the Convention
on the Rights of the Child (p.1 4), which shows that by transferring a child to an adult
correction facility, we are denying that child of his/her rights.
A child has a limited understanding of how the world functions. It is difficult for a
child to distinguish right from wrong. Therefore, it would be common sense to try a
child, under the age of 18, differently than an adult, with some exceptions being
made to frequent offenders and very serious crimes. But that is not the way it is
being implemented in the US. There are three ways a youth offender can be
transferred from a juvenile court to an adult court in the US. Brink (2004) lists the

Merchant Of Venice Stereotypes
Anti semitic is defined as having hostility or prejudice against Jews. The Merchant of
Venice exhibits both of these themes. The Merchant of Venice, a play written by
William Shakespeare in 1596 follows Antonio, a Christian merchant, and Shylock a
Jewish banker. Their journey starts when Shylock and Antonio make a deal. Shylock
loans Antonio three thousand ducats, in return, Antonio needs to pay Shylock back
in three months or Shylock gets to cut off a pound of flesh from Antonio s body.
Throughout this play, Jewish people are stereotyped as wanting to kill Christians and
are treated very poorly because of their religious beliefs.

them. Shakespeare portrays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They treated them as if they were inferior. For example, Jessica and Launcelot are
arguing whether Jessica would go to heaven. She says to Launcelot, I shall be
saved by my husband; he hath made me a Christian (3.5. ). Jessica is saying that
she will go to heaven because she converted to Christianity in order to marry her
husband. Launcelot and Jessica s argument shows that only Christians can go to
heaven. Another example of this is when Antonio says to Shylock, I am as like to
call thee so again,/To spet on thee again, to spurn thee too (1.3.456 457). Antonio is
saying that he has treated Shylock poorly in the past, and he will do it again.
Antonio does not like Shylock because he is Jewish. Shakespeare also reflects anti
semitic behavior through a character named Lancelot. Lancelot is a Christian who
does not like working for Shylock. He says, I should stay with the Jew my master,
who, God bless/ the mark! is a kind of devil; and, to run away from the Jew, I
should/ be ruled by the fiend, who, saving your reverence! is the devil/ himself
(2.2.585 587). Lancelot is debating with himself on whether he should flee with
Lorenzo and Jessica or stay and work for Shylock. Lancelot says that Shylock is the
devil, therefore he leaves. Shakespeare is showing that even Christians who weren t
wealthy disliked jews. In conclusion, The Merchant of Veniceshows how anti semitic
the Elizabethans were to those who had a different religion than them. Shakespeare
shows this perspective through the characters of Antonio, Lancelot, and Portia. In
contrast with this, Shakespeare also argues in support of the people the Elizabethans
dislike. He shows this perspective through Shylock and Morocco and how they want
to be treated with respect. This play is still important today because there are still
people today who are
The Importance of Securing Sensitive Items Essay example
Sensitive items are anything that is considered classified or a mission essential
item. These items can include protective gear, maps, or a piece of paper
designating patrol routes. The importance of securing sensitive items comes down

St. Louis Art Museum Analysis
Whether pride, fear, or peace, art is intended to make the viewer feel an emotion.
The visit to the St. Louis Art Museum had me excited to discover a new revelation.
Being the second time that I had visited in two semesters, I was looking forward to
a new angle to take, writing about some of my favorite pieces I was unable to
include in my last paper. This semester we have been focusing on the Renaissanceera
(1300 1700), also known as the Rebirth. During this time, scholars and artists looked
back towards the classical learning. Purposefully looking past the middle ages, they
focused on the classical past of Rome and Greece. During this time period many
works of art were created, however, throughout this semester every major artist we

man has not already adulterated the path to Christ. I have only been to the Art
Museum twice, and both times with a purpose. And while each of the assignments
involves different works and time periods, they both end in the same way. No matter
the art work, sculpture, painting, or buildings each are created with an intent and
today we cannot ask the artists why they did what they did. It is our job to really

Over The Past 1500 Years Human Kind Has Used Animals
For
Over the past 1500 years human kind has used animals for testing and they still use
animals for testing today. Most experiments made on animals are for medical and
cosmetic purposes. People that are for testing on animals usually argue that we
would not be where we are today if we didn t experiment on animals. Others that are
against it say that these experiments and methods weren t always necessary for
everything we have accomplished. Now with all of our modern technology, science,
and research do we still need to take trials and tests on animals? Testing on animals is
immoral and no longer needed with today s technology.

physicians conducting experiments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cosmetics and household products can be tested on these rather than the skin of live
rabbits. This is a huge development in human kind where the need for testing can
slowly be eliminated. When people go into surgery and have skin removed or parts
of their body, with permission, they can be used in such testing s. We do not have to
use live animals for testing procedures with so many different alternatives coming
into place.
Another alternative is obvious, human volunteers. Animals cannot volunteer and are
forced to participate in experiments. This is called microdosing. Minuscule amounts
of a test substance much smaller than typical doses used for medical purposes are
given to human volunteers so that researchers can track how the substances are
transported and absorbed throughout the body. (Barnard, 2007) No big experiments
are conducted on the volunteers, but just a small enough procedure where no harm
comes to any such volunteer. These small procedures are just enough for research and
progression.
The main reason so many are against animal testing is because they believe that it is
cruel and inhumane.
According to Humane Society International, animals used in experiments are
commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation,
prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds to
study the healing process, the infliction of pain to study its effects and
The Synoptic Gospels Were Based On The Life, And Death
The synoptic gospels were based on the life, and death of Jesus Christ; however, there
are numerous examples that the gospels had economic concepts, and financial
thoughts that were surrounded around the idea of investments. The Parables of the
Kingdom were all centered on the idea of investments, and the topic of what to do
with wealth. The specific parable, within the kingdom I analyzed was the Parable of
Talents, as it has the most economic concepts throughout it. A sum of Matthew, since
Matthew was a tax collector for the Roman government, had some financial ties to it.
Luke takes into account economicsthrough the use of judgment, and sympathy.

The servants who received 5, and 2 talents went out and used those talents as
investments, and later returned with double what they had been first given. The
servant who received 1 talent was so scared to lose what he had been given, that he
hid it by burying it in the dirt. When he returns with only the sole talent, his master
gets angry with him for his lack of willingness to take a risk. The parable is an
exhortation to take risks in using one s gifts for the kingdom of God (Lin 794). The
master was overly pleased with the first two servants due to the fact they were
willing to take a risk.
The parable engages with several economic concepts at various stages of its
narrative. The approach to taking risk in managing assets in a conceivably market
economy is central to the moral of the story with the intention of growing the
portfolio (Miranda). This idea supports the notion that the master wanted his slaves
to take advantage of a market economy that was available to them, to grow what he
had already given them. He felt offended when the third slave was unwilling to grow
what he had been given, out of fear.
Continually, the Parables of Talents provides us a key example illuminating the
principles of investments (Lin 793). The first key is the idea of profit making. The
standout message is that profit arising from productivity is to be rewarded, while
opportunity costs arising from lack of enterprise will inevitably be punished
My Fear Of Math
My math level before reading this book was a little bit rough. I have always had a
hard time doing math in school. Most of the things I had trouble with was the
fractions, percents, and word problems. I think this is because of these problems, I
have always had a fear of math and wanted to stay away from math. Everything I
tried to do to help with these fears either worked for a little while or it just never
stuck with me. no matter how hard I tried to succeed in math, I always needed
extra help from other people to get me through math. This book was about how to
face our fears of math. It gives us different topics and problems about math to try
and help us become better in math. The problems in the book are on real life
situations which makes it easier for us to see how we use math in our everyday
life. The book then goes from talking about simple arithmetic and other areas of
math to talking about teaching it. This book gives messages and tells you how to
solve your phobia of math with simple strategies that you can do. I would
recommend this book to a colleague because I feel this book has helped me to
understand math and become better at doing math. It has not changed my whole
phobia of math completely, but it has helped me to sharpen my math skills in the
areas I struggle with the most. I am hoping that when I recommend this book to
another colleague who struggles as much as me or even someone who excels in math,
they will also learn new things and help them become

This activates an internal self justification process to occur. When a person
internally processes self justification, it creates a larger and much more powerful
effect on a person s long held beliefs or morals than if any external justification is
evident. When person advocates publically for something that is a counter belief
to their true ideals, also known as counter attitudinal advocacy, the person will feel
a certain level of dissonance. A clever application of cognitive dissonance theory is
to get someone to like you by having them do you a favor. The reason this works is
that the person needs to internally justify the fact that they did something nice for
you. The converse is true as well. If you harm another person, to reduce the threat
to your self image that could come from doing a bad deed, you will tend to justify
what you did by denigrating your victim: the person deserved it, or he or she is not
one of us anyway. In extreme cases such as conflict and war, many people will
embrace the cognition that the victim or enemy deserved everything they got because
they are less than human. Chapter 7 One way that attitudes can change is when a
group of people or persons participate in counter attitudinal advocacy while having
little to no external justification for it. When this happens people will

Then there is their common way of self provision for their basic needs through
agriculture. Rice, potatoes, peanuts, fruits, eggs, cotton, corn, wheat, tomatoes,
tobacco, tea, sweet potatoes, and soybeans are the staples of agriculture, also to
include beef and dairy cattle, chicken, and hogs (Julia Furtaw and Carol Nagel, 2009).
The most common culture characteristic across China is their language, which is
Mandarin, also known as Putonghua. Mandarin is spoken in different ways in
different areas, yet it is Chinas official language and is now taught in all the schools.
China is the third largest country in the world and is located in eastern Asia. With a
land mass of 3,692,674 square miles, the extreme differences of Chinas climates and
terrain through its regions range from long and bitterly cold winters in Northern and
Western China, too mild to warm winters in central and southern China (World Book,
Inc., 2009). Eastern China and southern Manchuria summers are hot and humid,
while summer temperatures are extremely hot and dry in the northwestern deserts.
Winter temperatures average from 0 degrees F in Manchuria and Tibet through
January, and July temperatures average about 80 degrees F through much of China
but may reach over 100 degrees F in the northwestern deserts. Rainfall ranges from
light in the northern deserts to heavy in the southeast (World Book, Inc., 2015).

Methods Notation, definition, and effect decomposition for dichotomous outcome
Let A denote the exposure, Y a dichotomous outcome, M1 the first mediator, M2
the second mediator, and C a set of baseline covariates. For example, A may denote
body mass index (BMI), Y event of chronic heart failure (CHF) at by the end of
follow up, M1 cholesterol level, and M2 systolic blood pressure (SBP). We
compare two hypothetical levels of exposure: BMI = 25 and BMI = 21, which are
denoted as A =1 and A = 0, respectively. The causal relation among A, Y, M1, M2,
and C is illustrated graphically in Figure 1. There may be moreTheoretically, it
allows more than two mediators as well as time varying mediator outcome
confounders which are affected by exposure, such as the case shown in Figure 2.
However, for simplicity, we assume that no time varying confounder exists and
only two orderingordered mediators are of interest. The question of interest in this
paper may beis the extent of to which the effect of BMI (A) on event of CHF (Y) is
mediated by cholesterol level change (M1) and SBP (M2). The standard approach
is to decompose the overall effect of A on Y into four paths: the path not via M1 or
M2, the path via M1 only, the path via M2 only, and path via M1 and followed by
M2. Counterfactual outcome models are used to define four paths based on causal
theory 2 6, 16, 25. This model denotes the hypothetical outcome (in this article it is
also called counterfactual level of a certain
Visual Cue Music Analysis
The current study aimed to examine the effects of different types of music genres on
the motor reaction rate response to a visual cue. We hypothesized a calming ambient
genre song would create less distractibility and thus significantly produce faster
motor reaction rates to a visual cue given by the examiner. Our hypothesis was not
confirmed as no differences between the mean motor reaction time the ambient genre
song and the intense heavy metal song were found. There were actually instances
where the intense heavy metal genre song produced faster reaction rates in over half
of our participants. This improvement may indicate the presence of an enabling
factor influencing the somatosensory cortex that leads to faster motor response in
the presence of higher stimuli (Prasad, 2014, p. 124). For example, a study by Гњnal,
Steg and Epstude found that background music had no effect on driving performance
compared to driving without music, and remarkably, there were also cases of driving
improvement while listening to background music (2012, p. 271).... Show more

This effect inhibited us from finding significant differences and correlations
between the two different songs and the reaction rate. Since our sample size was
comprised of only nine people, and consisted mostly of White students from a
Midwestern university, it would be wrong of us to generalize our findings to the rest
of the population. Although our data showed some trends of minor differences in
reaction rates to different songs, further research must be done with a larger and
more representative sample to facilitate generalizing to the rest of the population and
to make our results applicable. Also, future research should include a control variable
that excludes listening to music while performing a visual motor response test. It
would be interesting to see the difference between subject preferred music versus not
preferred or no music at
Diaphragmatic Hernia Research Paper
The birth of a child is a time of joy and of endless possibilities; parents begin to plan

I was born with a diaphragmatic hernia. A diaphragmatic hernia is a birth defect in
which there is an abnormal opening in the diaphragm. In 1997, only 1% of the babies
born with the defect were able to survive the condition; shockingly, I was part of the
1%. After finding out that I had the condition, I had to be shipped to a hospital on the
other side of the state of Rhode Island. So one of my father s friends was a police

was very unlikely that I would last 3 days. I was a very small baby, only weighing 3

The Concept of Intelligence Essay
The Concept of Intelligence
ABSTRACT: Gilbert Ryle s dispositional analysis of the concept of intelligence
makes the error of assimilating intelligence to the category of dispositional or semi
dispositional concepts. Far from being a dispositional concept, intelligence is an
episodic concept that refers neither to dispositions nor to knowing how, but to a
fashion or style of proceeding whose significance is adverbial. Being derivative from
the function of the adverb intelligently, the concept of intelligence does not have
essential reference to specific verbs but rather to the manner or style of proceeding
of nearly any verb that is descriptive of the proceedings of an agent. Intelligence
words are expressive of a manner of doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The dualist s reaction was to withdraw from the dispositional analysis and to claim
that intelligence can only make sense when it is ultimately linked to an alternative
concept which presumably has reference to a process (the existence of which may be
ascertained by a subjective avowal: intent, deliberation, reflective choice, etc.).
Whether this maneuver avoids the Rylean critique is subject to serious doubt. Each
new term may itself have a problem concerning the metaphysical status of its
referent: whether it is a physical or a spiritual process.
Another problem with this approach is that it often makes the concept of intelligence
dependent on factors that may have no more than a casual relation to its meaning: a
contextual connection, for example.
While a dispositional analysis of intelligence would effectively rescue it from
entrapment inside the ghost in the machine it would fail to do the concept the justice
that the dualist seeks for it, and that is to make the observation that it appears to be
more an episodic than a dispositional concept.
It is in this connection that some philosophers take a critical view of Ryle s analysis.
Peter Thomas Geach, for instance, claims that reports of mental acts are categorical
and are not hypothetical or semi hypothetical statements about overt behavior. He
believes the dispositional account of psychological concepts to be on a level with the
statement that opium puts people to sleep

Cambodia has a growth rate of 3% per year and GDP per capita 735 (2010).
[pic] In 2004, Cambodia was the second least developed country to join the World
Trade Organization. Tourism comprises about 17.5 percent of Cambodia GDP in
2009, and 13.7 percent of total employment during this same time span(2009).
Cambodia per capita income is rapidly growing due to their agriculture and major
exports of rice, fish, garments and rubber (2010). The social development of
Cambodia is also on the rise. Under the Khmer Rouge regime; more than 2 million
people were shot, strangled, beheaded, or starved to death in the 20th century. Many
of the skilled and educated people of Cambodia were killed during this time and
Cambodia is still attempting to recover both from an economic, educational, and
social standpoint.
Education Education in Cambodia is in a dismal array. Modern education in
Cambodia has progressed gradually. The first high school in Cambodia did not open
until the late 1930 s (2001). Manual labor and political correctness was emphasized
in the educational system over knowledge by the Khmer. The Khmer Rouge claimed
that rice fields were books, and hoes were pencils (2001). A deliberate attempt was
made to destroy the foundations of a modern education system by the Khmer Rouge
as they killed any with a higher education such as doctors, lawyers, teachers, and
former college students. If the Khmer Rouge did not kill them, they

July 21, 2011 Merit or Mistake In today s society one of the most important factors
in selecting a career field is rate of pay. No matter whether the profession maybe,
the dollar figure must be within a range that allows the employee to maintain a
substantial lifestyle. The debate of teacher pay scales has raged on for years. Many
argue that the current pay scale for teachers is a scale which rewards teachers merely
for seniority. They argue that the current pay scale overlooks those educators which
demonstrate exceptional performance. Teacher merit pay systems have been the most
popular suggestions made to remedy the problems seen with the current pay scale.

Hess. Merit pay systems create unhealthy competition between educators which
should be working together to ensure that the best possible educational is being given
to every student. If one observes an effective educational institution in operation, one
will notice those institutions that are highly rated are essentially partnerships
between various educators with various teaching styles and personalities teaming
together to impart wisdom on young minds primed for educational molding. The
general concept behind merit pay systems makes this type of partnership unattainable.
In an article published in Education Week Kim Marshall stated that When individuals
are rewarded, collaboration suffers . Educators become more concerned with
outperforming their counter parts to gain pay raises then working together to educate
young minds. Those who are in favor of teacher merit pay systems feel as though the
use of this system can eliminate the possibility of seniority outweighing high
performance. They believe that those teachers in merit pay systems would be made to
perform better in the classroom and demonstrate great teaching skills. Although there
is some truth to this idea, it should not be accepted in the argument of teacher merit
pay. In the Christian Science Monitor Reg Weaver stated merit pay systems would
warrant an adherence to some type of evaluative standard This means that teacher
evaluations would consists mainly of the scores from

Animal Cruelty And Its Effects On Society
For years, animals have been a form of entertainment whether it has been in
movies, shows, circuses, or for a romantic night out. Most families love this type
of entertainment because it is kid friendly and believe it is cool to watch animals
do all kinds of tricks. But do they ever wonder what really goes on behind closed
doors? Entertainment animals have had to endure a lot of pain, depression, and
torture in the process; aside from that not all of them have that happy ending. No
one enjoys pain, this includes humans and animals, and so no one should have be
force to go through it. Each year hundreds of animals die from animal cruelty.
Animals used for entertainment have to endure pain in various ways this can be
anything from being whipped to being electrocuted. Animals have no way of saying

leg problems. Countless other incidents have occurred in which humans and horses
were involved, especially in the city; many of which humans were at fault either for
driving carelessly or impatiently. The local animal control officials are the ones who

Wizard Of Oz Goal And Journey
People have always prayed to the Gods to ask for less problems in life, yet there

own jobs that require more responsible. In fact, working, studying or fulfilling any
duties are the preexisted problems that are waiting people to solve, but everything
can be solved if they are willing to do that. It depends on how patient and assiduous
they are with those obstacles along the way to reach what they need. Since the goal
and journey are always turned out to be an issue in reality, most authors often implant
the idea of goal and journey in their books. Among them, The Wonderful Wizard of

Firstly, the Scarecrow and the Lion aimed to go to the same place to achieve their
goal, since the Oz ordered all companions to kill wicked witch of the west. Among
of them, Scarecrow had agreed the Oz s command, and continued the journey with
his friend in order to get brain from the Oz. He needed to go to the west where the
wicked witch s land is (Baum, 2013, pp. 76 80). This means that the Scarecrow had
the willingness to achieve his goal. Similarly, in order to get courage from the Oz,
the Lion wanted to kill the wicked witch as well (Baum, 2013, pp. 78 80).
Afterward, the Scarecrow and the Lion faced different conflicts along the journey
to achieve their goal. While they were going to the west, the Scarecrow and the
Lion faced many strange circumstances, which were created by the wicked witch.
The Scarecrow fought against those conflicts such as scarring all crows,
commanded by the wicked witch, to fly away in order to protect his companions
from danger; sadly, he has been destroyed by winged monkeys, the supporters of
wicked witch that was more superior and stronger (Baum, 2013, pp. 78 80). On the

Severe Acne Vulgaris
In today s day and age, many people, from infants to young children to middle aged
adults, suffer from acne. According to the Canadian Dermatology Association, acne
is the most common skincare problem addressed by doctors (2016). Generally
speaking, acne comes in many different forms such as white heads, black heads,
cysts, pimples, and different bumps on the skin affecting people of all ages.
Acne Vulgaris, otherwise understood as the medical name of acne, is a well known
chronic disorder that is associated with increased sebum secretion, according to the
National Library of Medicine (2013).
Obstruction of the sebaceous follicle is the primary pathologic event in acne, giving

This finally leads to an inflammatory response seen as papules, pustules, and nodules.
The bacterium also causes the formation of free fatty acids, which are irritants,
increasing the inflammatory process in the follicle (EFPIA, 2016)
Severe acne with associated systemic signs and symptoms, such as fever, is referred
to as acne fulminans. Severe acne, characterized by multiple comedones, without the
presence of systemic symptoms, is known as acne conglobata. This severe form of
acne typically heals with lasting scars. Local symptoms of acne vulgaris may include
pain, tenderness, or even erythema (Informed Health, 2013).
Although acne is seen to only affect the main organ, the skin, different systems of the
body are affected in unison, including the endocrine system, immune system,
circulatory system, nervous system and the digestive system. The long term
complications of acne remain as psychological damage. Many can develop lasting
scarring from the skin irritations including atrophic scars, hypertrophic scars, and
keloid scars. While the experience of acne may not be deemed as life threatening, it
does carry with it significant psychological disability (Rubin, Kim, Logan, 2008).
The psychological aspect of acne includes higher rates
Reflection Of The Film Juno Directed By Jason Reitman
The film Juno directed by Jason Reitman is intriguing in terms of general vision and
viewpoint. Reitman uses a variety of different aspects to convey the vision and
viewpoint, such as the plot, imaginative language and imagery, and superb
characterization. Through these Juno , despite having its dark moments, elicits an
overall feeling of positivity and optimism.
A positive feeling emanates from the opening scenes of Juno . Set in 2006 in
Minnesota, the film opens in warm autumnal sunshine. The love scene between the
eponymous 16 year old Juno and her boyfriend, Paulie Bleeker, is shot in soft focus
and subdued lighting, conveying a sense of tender affection. In an animated sequence
we see Juno walk in a confident carefree manner accompanied by an upbeat song on
the soundtrack. The mood is decidedly optimistic, generating a feeling of positive
anticipation in the viewer.
The first key moment in the plot casts an ominous shadow. In the drugstore, Juno s
pregnancy test proves positive. The shopkeeper treats her with an attitude of
contempt and inevitably a rancorous exchange occurs. Outside of the drugstore she
holds the urine test in one hand and a rope of liquorice in the other. The juxtaposition
of adolescence and adulthood is striking in this creative image. Juno is plunged into
the world of adulthood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In terms of general vision and viewpoint both texts are strikingly similar in eliciting a
feeling of distinct pessimism from the reader. LG presents us with a general vision of
lives that are emotionally wounded, frustrated, troubled and lacking in personal
fulfillment. Similarly in ADH, the play is dominated by conflict, intrigue, fierce
emotional pain and the disintegration of a marriage. These bleak viewpoints are
conveyed through the plot, characterization of the protagonists, and creative language

Social Construction Of Nature And Environmental Change
The assignment this week challenged us to utilize our course objectives to address
the requirements of the assignment. The objectives include how to apply the
concepts of political ecology to environmental concerns, analyze the link between
social, cultural, geographic, cultural, political factors, and environmental change, as
well as assess methodological approaches used for research in political ecology. In
addition, this assignment will discuss how reserves and national parks have been
socially constructed/produced to be protected areas. Following this discussion, the
conversation will include an overview of how this construction of national parks and
reserves may result in the property rights reconstructing the resource into a rival
good. Moreover, I will provide a brief discussion on the relationship between social
construction of nature and environmental change. In conclusion, I will briefly review
case studies and frameworks that are related to the conservation of biodiversity.
The ability to apply concepts of political ecology to environmental concerns enables
one to understand why national parks and reserves have been socially constructed
/produced. These protected areas are legally protected to ensure their conservation
because of the presence of given environmental concerns. The article Ways of Seeing

Norman Schwarzkopf was one of the greatest leaders in American history. He was
destined to be a leader of men from birth. Schwarzkopf was born on 22 August
1934 in Trenton, New Jersey. He grew up as an Army brat, living on bases all
around the world. His father who is credited for the founding of the New Jersey
state police, was honorably discharged from the army as a Brigadier General after
had served in both World War I and World War II. Norman tried hard to follow in
his father s footsteps. Like his father, Norman graduated from West Point University
in 1956 with a Bachelor s degree in Engineering. While attending West Point he was a

Eventually Schwarzkopf, returned home in a body cast that covered him from his
shoulders all the way down to his hips. For his time served during the war
Schwarzkopf received numerous awards and medals. Once he was well enough to
speak to the public about his experiences he was shocked by how hostile many
were about the war and that the public was directing their anger towards the
military. Schwarzkopf assumed that this wrath from the community had been
spawned by the realities that the government went into the war without clear
intentions. This appeared to cause a great personal conflict for Schwarzkopf who
contemplated hanging up his uniform. After much thought and consideration
Schwarzkopf came to the conclusion that he would stay in the fight but that as
long as he was in command his soldiers would never fight in a war like Vietnam
again. The Vietnam War was coming to an end and the soldiers were back to their
families, who s had been waiting and praying stateside for their safe return. But
that didn t mean complacency for Schwarzkopf he continued to rise up the ranks
taking on more responsibilities with each promotion. He received his first star in
the 70 s and would successfully lead troops during the invasion of Grenada in 1983.
Five more time would pass and General Schwarzkopf would finally receive his fourth
star in 1988. He was assigned as the commander of the Central Command. While

  • 3. I Am A Brother Of The Great Pharaoh My name is Meritamen. I am the daughter of the great Pharaoh, Rameses II or otherwise known as Rameses the Great. It is said that though I am only eleven years old, my father greatly favors me. Many tell me of my beauty and how lucky I am to be such a great man s daughter. I am told that I am even more lucky than my other siblings because my father likes me so much, and out of the hundreds of children he has, I am a favorite! Today, I wake up to my ladies rushing me to get dressed. I look around and see that they have some of my nicer gowns laid out, as well as my favorite wig and my more exquisite jewelry on display. What s going on? I wonder if we have guests coming. As I step out of bed, I hear my ladies whispering. We can never be sure, but why not have her look her best, just in case the rumors are true? You hold a valid point, but if the rumors aren t true, don t you think Rameses will be suspicious? Suspicious of what? This is all so confusing. Am I not as beautiful as people tell me? No, people do not lie to royalty. Wise people dare not, at least. How can they not be true? He looks at her with real favor, and she would be a good queen to Egypt. Ah. So there have been more rumors that my father wishes to wed me, though I doubt they have any real backing to them. While its not exactly ideal to marry your father, I can t argue that being a queen wouldn t have its perks. As for now, I m not going to concern myself with it. I have some studying to do, and I have

He is good at his tasks and has a good understanding of the machineries, displayed by his ability to develop high quality machines for the plant use. He is very energetic and very proud of his job and his capabilities, so proud that he inscribes his name in bright yellow to every machine that he developed and assembled. This caught the attention of Stone, a young but experienced engineer who was new to the company and was assigned to supervise the skilled workers, including Alvarez. Point of View The group have adopted Pinto s point of view given that he is the one tasked to make the decision concerning Alvarez. V. Areas of Consideration A. Alvarez s performance and past contributions to the company B. The existing policies of the company in relation to rewards and recognition for the workers C. The economic cost of the decision to the company D. The effect of the decision to Alvarez and to the other workers E. The effect of the decision to the integrity of the management F. The effect of the decision to the overall business productivity and competitiveness VI. Analysis / Assumptions * Alvarez identifies himself with Canalven as evidenced by the length of time he has worked for the company. It is possible that Canalvens may be the reason he was working in Venezula instead of Columbia. The pride he felt in being so good at building and fixing machines also indicates that his work holds a big part of his identity, his personal definition of who he was. * Alvarez is a person with high narcissism, that is, he has a grandiose of his own importance and requires excessive admiration. He has a sense of entitlement and tends to be arrogant as portrayed in his reaction when a welder asked him if he was not afraid of being fired. He is often difficult to work with and may have a false sense of his effectiveness as manifested by his sustained grumbling. *
  • 5. Autism Spectrum Analysis Autism can be a mysterious topic, with a black box of information scientists have been trying to open for years. But today, people know a lot more about the inner workings of ASD. Some interesting facts and statistics are that the most obvious signs of autism occur at a very young age, usually 2 3 years old, and 1 in every 68 children have been diagnosed with it (What is autism?). The cause of this disorder is found in the brain, where their mind map is scrambled. This means that there are abnormalities in the cerebellum, brain stem, limbic system, and frontal cortex (Albano). In addition, the word autism comes from the greek word autos , which means self. This is due to the fact that autistic people seem self absorbed (Autism Spectrum... It is known that when they re pushed beyond the limits, or have overloaded senses, they can in a way start to ignore the world around them. Albano describes Grandin s own personal experience on this same topic, saying, I pulled away when people tried to hug me, because being touched sent an overwhelming tidal wave of stimulation through my body...when noise and sensory over stimulation became too intense, I was able to shut off my hearing and retreat into my own world. There s a possibility that another reason why autistic people have foreign reactions is that their vision might be distorted. While autistic humans are certainly nowhere near being blind otherwise they wouldn t be visual learners they do feel objects a lot, to understand what the boundaries are in our complex world (Albano). As has been said, people with autism don t understand things like puns and metaphors. This is because they like logic and when things are cogent. Jeff Hudale claims to like numbers, namely math computations, which is common in autistic people, especially those with Asperger s. This is because of that logical thinking. It is also why social interactions are such a struggle for people with autism: There are no rules applied (Hamilton). Since it s so hard to communicate, autistic people try to say what they mean in other ways. To illustrate, when someone with ASD starts having a meltdown, one can try to find the source of their upset mood, therefore understanding what s bothering them without the person even having to explain what s wrong. The result is an outburst instead. Every action for autistic people is a form of communication that they can t say with words. It may only be a small inkling of what they mean, but if one notices something that usually happens before a

This is what one mother said to her 4 year old daughter before sending her on stage. Imagine if you had a beautiful little girl and you decided to spray tan her, dress her provocatively, tweeze her eyebrows, give her fake hair, nails, teeth and pounds of makeup. Is this really how a little girl should be raised? A childbeauty pageant is a beauty contestfor children younger than 16. The girls are judged based on individuality in looks, capability, poise, perfection and confidence, which the judges call, the complete package . The contestants compete to win a variety of prizes and trophies: the trophies being taller than the girls themselves. This got me thinking on the achievements of mankind in exploring the universe in the last 30 or more years. What I thought was completely different than what my grandpa was thinking about the future when the Apollo Mission was landing into the moon. It is easy to realize how space explorationis deepened on two factors, cost and geopolitical reasons[1], maybe the second one affects the first one in a way, but this is a different story. At the end, I came up with a big debate on my mind. This is humanexploration vs robotic exploration. It is obvious how the second one has dominated the field for years now and I totally agree with that. However, at some point in the future both human and robotic exploration should be combined. As mentioned earlier, many experts claim that space exploration is depended on geopolitical reasons. The money governments will spend is thus, in a way, not depended on curiosity about the universe or any other reason, but in the rivalry between countries. As a result, cost is a primary factor of space exploration. NASAback in the 60s rejected a manned mission to mars due to the extreme cost, and has been rejecting it since now based on the same old calculations[2]. On the other hand, robotic exploration is much cheaper. There have been notable examples such as Cassini, Pathfinder, Curiosity etc. All these missions

He unveils many secrets of the hacker in The Art of Deception. The Art of Intrusion takes a different twist from its predecessor. It looks at the attitude of the hacker and what drives them. Personally the book lacked the full degree of intrusions one is capable of. Looking at the resume Kevin Mitnick has, successful intruder, phenomenal social engineer, most wanted of the law, caught and convicted criminal, security consultant and finally company CEO, one would have expected his personal experiences and intrusions that finally landed him as the greatest hacker ever known by the media. With this the book lacked some sort of uniqueness because it was based on other stories of intrusions. Mitnick took different stories and merged lots of information through them which in turn ended up being more of an introduction course to types of security breaches than an in depth look at how hackers can breach security. This showed some form of incompleteness especially to a technical audience. For the non technical it serves as a good read but not much is learnt and gained by the technical audience so I feel the target audience was blurred out. The stories seemed very fictional which again raised the suspicion of whether they were really true or

Juno s jealousy and frustration in her inability to control her husband s infidelities leads her to alter Io and Callisto s fates by punishing them for her husband s actions. She is vengeful with no regard to those she punishes. The Gods, Jupiter and more specifically Juno display a cruel mind set toward these women. The central idea that Calvin bases most of his claims on in his booklet is the idea that Christians should walk in the beauty of God s law , so that the claims of belief and trust in God that Christians make are exhibited outwardly in the way that they live their lives (15). Although there is a juvenile court system in place to try youth offenders, the way it is being implemented is different between each state. In addition, some states even go further and try youth offenders, depending on the crimethey committed, in an adult criminal court. In recent years, juvenile crimes face harsh punishments in the US, and the number of juvenile offenders sent to youth courts is decreasing, based on the data ( The Sentencing Project Juvenile Justice, 2015). This decline of cases being sent to the juvenile courts indicates that more cases of youth crime are being transferred to adult courts. Therefore, it would be common sense to try a child, under the age of 18, differently than an adult, with some exceptions being made to frequent offenders and very serious crimes. But that is not the way it is being implemented in the US. There are three ways a youth offender can be transferred from a juvenile court to an adult court in the US. Brink (2004) lists the

  • 30. Merchant Of Venice Stereotypes Anti semitic is defined as having hostility or prejudice against Jews. The Merchant of Venice exhibits both of these themes. The Merchant of Venice, a play written by William Shakespeare in 1596 follows Antonio, a Christian merchant, and Shylock a Jewish banker. Their journey starts when Shylock and Antonio make a deal. Shylock loans Antonio three thousand ducats, in return, Antonio needs to pay Shylock back in three months or Shylock gets to cut off a pound of flesh from Antonio s body. Throughout this play, Jewish people are stereotyped as wanting to kill Christians and are treated very poorly because of their religious beliefs. For example, Jessica and Launcelot are arguing whether Jessica would go to heaven. She says to Launcelot, I shall be saved by my husband; he hath made me a Christian (3.5. ). Jessica is saying that she will go to heaven because she converted to Christianity in order to marry her husband. Launcelot and Jessica s argument shows that only Christians can go to heaven. Another example of this is when Antonio says to Shylock, I am as like to call thee so again,/To spet on thee again, to spurn thee too (1.3.456 457). Antonio is saying that he has treated Shylock poorly in the past, and he will do it again. Antonio does not like Shylock because he is Jewish. Shakespeare also reflects anti semitic behavior through a character named Lancelot. Lancelot is a Christian who does not like working for Shylock. He says, I should stay with the Jew my master, who, God bless/ the mark! is a kind of devil; and, to run away from the Jew, I should/ be ruled by the fiend, who, saving your reverence! is the devil/ himself (2.2.585 587). Lancelot is debating with himself on whether he should flee with Lorenzo and Jessica or stay and work for Shylock. Lancelot says that Shylock is the devil, therefore he leaves. Shakespeare is showing that even Christians who weren t wealthy disliked jews. In conclusion, The Merchant of Veniceshows how anti semitic the Elizabethans were to those who had a different religion than them. Shakespeare shows this perspective through the characters of Antonio, Lancelot, and Portia. In contrast with this, Shakespeare also argues in support of the people the Elizabethans dislike. He shows this perspective through Shylock and Morocco and how they want to be treated with respect. This play is still important today because there are still people today who are

Others that are against it say that these experiments and methods weren t always necessary for everything we have accomplished. We do not have to use live animals for testing procedures with so many different alternatives coming into place. Another alternative is obvious, human volunteers. Animals cannot volunteer and are forced to participate in experiments. This is called microdosing. Minuscule amounts of a test substance much smaller than typical doses used for medical purposes are given to human volunteers so that researchers can track how the substances are transported and absorbed throughout the body. (Barnard, 2007) No big experiments are conducted on the volunteers, but just a small enough procedure where no harm comes to any such volunteer. These small procedures are just enough for research and progression. The main reason so many are against animal testing is because they believe that it is cruel and inhumane. According to Humane Society International, animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing process, the infliction of pain to study its effects and

The Synoptic Gospels Were Based On The Life, And Death The synoptic gospels were based on the life, and death of Jesus Christ; however, there are numerous examples that the gospels had economic concepts, and financial thoughts that were surrounded around the idea of investments. The specific parable, within the kingdom I analyzed was the Parable of Talents, as it has the most economic concepts throughout it. The servants who received 5, and 2 talents went out and used those talents as investments, and later returned with double what they had been first given. The servant who received 1 talent was so scared to lose what he had been given, that he hid it by burying it in the dirt. When he returns with only the sole talent, his master gets angry with him for his lack of willingness to take a risk. The parable is an exhortation to take risks in using one s gifts for the kingdom of God (Lin 794). The master was overly pleased with the first two servants due to the fact they were willing to take a risk. The parable engages with several economic concepts at various stages of its narrative. The approach to taking risk in managing assets in a conceivably market economy is central to the moral of the story with the intention of growing the portfolio (Miranda). This idea supports the notion that the master wanted his slaves to take advantage of a market economy that was available to them, to grow what he had already given them. He felt offended when the third slave was unwilling to grow what he had been given, out of fear. Continually, the Parables of Talents provides us a key example illuminating the principles of investments (Lin 793). The first key is the idea of profit making. The standout message is that profit arising from productivity is to be rewarded, while opportunity costs arising from lack of enterprise will inevitably be punished

When a person internally processes self justification, it creates a larger and much more powerful effect on a person s long held beliefs or morals than if any external justification is evident. When person advocates publically for something that is a counter belief to their true ideals, also known as counter attitudinal advocacy, the person will feel a certain level of dissonance. A clever application of cognitive dissonance theory is to get someone to like you by having them do you a favor. The reason this works is that the person needs to internally justify the fact that they did something nice for you. The converse is true as well. If you harm another person, to reduce the threat to your self image that could come from doing a bad deed, you will tend to justify what you did by denigrating your victim: the person deserved it, or he or she is not one of us anyway. In extreme cases such as conflict and war, many people will embrace the cognition that the victim or enemy deserved everything they got because they are less than human. Chapter 7 One way that attitudes can change is when a group of people or persons participate in counter attitudinal advocacy while having little to no external justification for it. Our hypothesis was not confirmed as no differences between the mean motor reaction time the ambient genre song and the intense heavy metal song were found. There were actually instances where the intense heavy metal genre song produced faster reaction rates in over half of our participants. This improvement may indicate the presence of an enabling factor influencing the somatosensory cortex that leads to faster motor response in the presence of higher stimuli (Prasad, 2014, p. 124). The Concept of Intelligence Essay The Concept of Intelligence ABSTRACT: Gilbert Ryle s dispositional analysis of the concept of intelligence makes the error of assimilating intelligence to the category of dispositional or semi dispositional concepts. Far from being a dispositional concept, intelligence is an episodic concept that refers neither to dispositions nor to knowing how, but to a fashion or style of proceeding whose significance is adverbial. Being derivative from the function of the adverb intelligently, the concept of intelligence does not have essential reference to specific verbs but rather to the manner or style of proceeding of nearly any verb that is descriptive of the proceedings of an agent. Intelligence words are expressive of a manner of doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dualist s reaction was to withdraw from the dispositional analysis and to claim that intelligence can only make sense when it is ultimately linked to an alternative concept which presumably has reference to a process (the existence of which may be ascertained by a subjective avowal: intent, deliberation, reflective choice, etc.). Whether this maneuver avoids the Rylean critique is subject to serious doubt. Each new term may itself have a problem concerning the metaphysical status of its referent: whether it is a physical or a spiritual process. Another problem with this approach is that it often makes the concept of intelligence dependent on factors that may have no more than a casual relation to its meaning: a contextual connection, for example. While a dispositional analysis of intelligence would effectively rescue it from entrapment inside the ghost in the machine it would fail to do the concept the justice that the dualist seeks for it, and that is to make the observation that it appears to be more an episodic than a dispositional concept. It is in this connection that some philosophers take a critical view of Ryle s analysis. Peter Thomas Geach, for instance, claims that reports of mental acts are categorical and are not hypothetical or semi hypothetical statements about overt behavior. He believes the dispositional account of psychological concepts to be on a level with the statement that opium puts people to sleep
