This document discusses opportunities in big data for the digitally transforming football (soccer) industry. It summarizes that football is a major business with revenue opportunities globally but also threats from piracy. Digital transformation is enabling football clubs to have more direct relationships with fans as customers. Big data can help football clubs improve revenue streams through dynamic pricing, brand management, and analyzing where and when to tour. It can also help optimize expenses like player wages and valuations. Data-driven insights can enhance net investment decisions around player valuation and transfers.

The past few years have been tumultuous for the European travel marketplace. Yet despite a lingering debt crisis and continued uncertainty in markets such as Spain, Italy and Greece, the region’s travel industry is beginning to show signs of life. Millions of European travelers who passed on vacations during the depth of the recession returned to the traveler pool in 2013. France, Germany, the U.K. and others are paving the way to recovery, and consumer confidence is on the upswing.

Strata 2014 Talk:Tracking a Soccer Game with Big DataSrinath Perera
Mobile devices, sensors and GPS are driving the demand to handle big data in both batch and real time. This presentation discusses how we used complex event processing (CEP) and MapReduce based technologies to track and process data from a soccer match as part of the annual DEBS event processing challenge. In 2013, the challenge included a data set generated by a real soccer match in which sensors were placed in the soccer ball and players’ shoes. This session will review how we used CEP to implement DESB challenge and achieved throughput in excess of 100,000 events/sec. It also will examine how we extended the solution to conduct batch processing using business activity monitoring (BAM) using the same framework, enabling users to obtain both instant analytics as well as more detailed batch processing based results.

16 exploring capital markes final post malmo_6 sept 2018Antonio Boccia
The worldwide broadcasting of sport events by global media conglomerates and the rapid acceptance and development of sport sponsorship have changed the traditional business model of football clubs, which historically has relied on match day revenues. Football clubs now must commercialize in order to remain financially competitive and sustainable in light of increased costs. Reaching these objectives may require investment in new technologies, personnel, manufacturing, new or renovated venues and marketing initiatives. A primary question for many football clubs is where to obtain the additional capital needed for these specific investments? There is a variety of options available to clubs interested in raising capital, including those potentially offered by the capital markets, such as: (1) Issuing corporate bonds; (2) Initiating an IPO (Initial Public Offering); (3) Integrating a football club’s fan base into a shareholder structure.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Football: The rules of the Business
1) Football has social value, and business value too
2) The better players the team has (measured by market wage), the better the team does on the
pitch
3) Revenue drives long-term team’s performance
4) Commercial the most important source of revenue: larger and growing faster
5) Matchday revenue drivers: Stadium ownership, VIP
6) Broadcast revenue drivers: domestic league value and team distribution, and success on
international tournaments
7) Commercial: Big-ticket contracts (dependant on TV audience) are key. Stadium naming rights will
bring significant growth soon
8) Main cost driver is team wages. It determines (un)profitability

Threat of media content piracy: Use Social Tech when it is
strategic for you to be closer to your end-customers
Low
•The sports industry is about to be seriously threatened by Internet piracy.
•Getting closer to the end-user would help clubs to gain insights and knowledge of the
customer, and to react and change value propositions to fight piracy.
•Also social technologies can create value-added, harder to be copied, services to bundle
with the base product.
