This document discusses bipolar disorder and the pain of depression. It suggests that genetics and experiences of overreaching and failure can reinforce bipolar disorder. Those suffering from depression experience pain in their brain similarly to physical pain, but it has no clear source or way to describe it, causing extreme uncertainty and discomfort. To try to end this pain, some turn to drugs, alcohol, risky projects, or in some cases suicide, as the pain of depression feels just as real and inescapable as physical pain.
