What Is The Importance Of Memory In Our Lives
The Importance of Memory in Our Lives Memory is a process that involves retention, retrieval, and
using the information that is taken in by the senses and stored. Memory can be compared to a time
machine that allows you to go back into any moment in time. Memory can also be used by students to
remember material for exams, their daily schedule, names, phone numbers, and directions to places.
There are other things that students are not aware we use memory for such things are having
conversations because memory is needed to track how the conversation is flowing as well as finding a
class because it is necessary to remember the spatial layout of campus. Studying Memory Richard
Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin (1968) proposed a model called the modal model of memory and was
sort of a compilation of many features of models that were being proposed at that time. The model has
structural features which are three stages. The first state is sensory memory which is where all
information that is being taken in is held for a couple of seconds. The second stage is the short term
memory which can hold 5 to 7 items for 15 to 30 seconds. The last stage is long term memory can
hold a large amount of information that can be stored for years or decades. This memory system is
described as a control process because it is active and is controlled by the individual and differs from
person to person. Control process includes rehearsal which is the repetition of a stimulus in order to
keep it in your

The Case of American Apparel(a Clothing Manufacturer)
Two Practices in Business related to the topic from Business Magazines. The case of American
Apparel(a clothing manufacturer): Charney squarely declares : I ve had relationships, loving
relationships, that I m proud of. I think it s a First Amendment right to pursue one s affection for
another human being. And he is talking about his staff. He has admitted to having numerous love
affairs with colleagues in the past. He is even known to work at office dressed in nothing other than
underwear. This attitude in fact percolates to American Apparel s culture, is almost second nature for
most of the employees and is visible even in the decor of its stores. The stores white walls are dotted

Though not a legal requirement for any business(yet), these programs do tend to serve as an assurance
in the minds of the employers that should there be a case of sexual harassment at work, they do have a
recourse, a channel to address it. And to protect them in case a lawsuit is filed. Some reports suggest
that sexual harassment cases are increasingly on the rise. Not only this, the reports also suggest that
the harassment has reached the higher levels of management, as in the case of American Apparel.
Keeping this in mind, it becomes all the more imperative and necessary for a firm to adopt a sexual
harassment prevention policy. It is imperative that an employee is provided a safe and comfortable
environment to work in. In Sexual Harassment in the Workplace: A Primer , Barry Roberts and
Richard Mann recommend that businesses need to understand sexual harassment; communicate a
policy; enforce a policy; establish procedures; and enforce policy. In that respect, a sexual harassment
training program plays an all important role. For a policy or set of grievance procedures to be
effective, all employees, from supervisors to line workers, administrators to custodial staff, need to be
knowledgeable about the company s policy and grievance procedures. Sexual harassment training
needs to be very explicit in

South China Sea Between The People s Republic Of China Essay
INTRODUCTION
The ongoing dispute in the South China Sea between the People s Republic of China (PRC), and the
various littoral states (Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and the Philippines) has been a topic of intense
debate and observation in the international community. While each of the littoral states attempts to
enforce and control the 200 nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) allotted to them by the
United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the PRC is claiming much of the South
China Sea for itself roughly 90 percent on the basis of a Kuomintang map from 1947 (Fensom, 2016).
This nine dash line extends well beyond the 200 nm limit and into the EEZ s of the respective littoral
states. These claims include the Paracel Islands, which the PRC clashed with Vietnam over in the
1970s; Scarborough Shoal, a coral atoll and lagoon west of the Philippines; and the Spratly Islands, a
large collection of small, uninhabited islands, reefs, and sandbars on the southern edge of the South
China Sea. Additionally, the PRC claims EEZs on its occupied features, despite the Permanent Court
of Arbitration s (PCA) ruling that all the Spratly Island features are rocks and therefore are not entitled
to EEZs (Permanent Court of Arbitration, 2016). Chinese control of these features would allow them
to effectively control the entire South China Sea. A third of all global maritime trade over 5 trillion
dollars annually passes through this region, along with over 60% of Japan s

Good Digestion Is The Foundation Of Good Health
Good digestion is the foundation of good health; for instance, one could theoretically eat a perfect diet
and take a multivitamin, but if these nutrients aren t optimally absorbed all that s left is wasted time.
The stomach isn t just one giant food processor and storage system, when you really think about it, the
stomach is also the barrier between the outside world and your internal physiology.
Digestive disorders, treatments, causes, etc. is an expansive topic. For the sake of time, I am going to
focus primarily on treating an increasingly common condition called leaky gut syndrome , as it can
lead to many serious complications down the road. The strategies you ll use to help fight this, will also
serve to increase your body s digestive capacity. Simply put, we need to remove this roadblock to
ensure optimal digestion and absorption of nutrients. Leaky gut syndrome is a condition where
damaged bowel lining leads to increased permeability of the gut wall to substances that shouldn t be
going into your blood or interstitial areas. Certain things like bad bacteria, and foreign invaders do not
get blocked from being absorbed through your intestinal membrane, and things that should get
absorbed don t. I also want to emphasize that leaky gut is common in irritable bowel diseases such as
celiac disease, crohn s disease, allergies, and many other things. This is why I want to focus so much
on this aspect.
So what are the symptoms? Diarrhea, chronic joint pain, chronic

Mermaid Observation
Today was a special day to do my observation paper because it is my anniversary. I got to spend time
with my husband and the share the hands on experience together. We spent almost 2 ½ hours at the
Virginia Aquarium Marine Science Center, located in Virginia Beach, on Saturday, May 6, 2017. This
was a perfect day to observe different ethnicity s groups because it was nice outside with a cool breeze
that blew the crowd into the aquarium. We started our visiting the center ourselves before observing
the different people and their families.
In the beginning, we were undecided on which would a be great place to start to observe without
looking suspicious. Therefore, I choose the Loggerhead Sea Turtles (Caretta caretta) that swam in the
same tank as some baby sharks. The reason why I picked this particular section out of the entire
aquarium was because it had the most beautiful creature that caught your eyes as you walked by. The
Loggerhead sea turtle was a must picture taking while posing in front of the glass exhibit. The
children eyes lit up as this huge sea creature came towards that glass.

The Importance Of The Human Genome Project
Building off of the work conducted by the Human Genome Project to sequence the entire human
genome, the ENCODE Project seeks to delineate the function of the elements identified within the
project. Through the collaboration of many different institutions, scientists, and laboratories, the
ENCODE Project has been able to identify and assign functions to numerous, including previously
unstudied, elements within the genome and further genome wide understanding beyond just that of
protein coding sequences. Utilizing different biological assays, scientists systematically mapped areas
of transcription, chromatin structure, histone modification, and transcription factor association
(ENCODE Project Consortium 2012). ENCODE focused on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, it also illuminated the gaps in understanding that still exist, such as organizational and
mechanistic features. The large amount of data covering numerous cell types from the ENCODE
Project creates a resource to be used in the studies of genetic disorders and illnesses and provide
testable hypotheses for experimental analysis. ENCODE focused on a limited number of cell types
and factors. Future studies could further understanding of the genome and potentially fill in the gaps
by expanding the number of cell types and factors examined (ENCODE Project Consortium 2012).
Discussion
The ENCODE Project seeks to determine the functionality of the elements of the human genome.
ENCODE has their own definition of functionality, which includes any discrete genome segment that
encodes a defined product or displays a reproducible biochemical signature. With the rapidly
degrading definition of the gene in recent years due to insights from projects like ENCODE and the
discovery of pervasive genomic transcription, the ENCODE definition of functionality could be the
key to determining the new definition of a gene. Historically, a gene indicated a piece of DNA which
ultimately had a protein product,

political conflict, military coalitions, and numerous competitions of brain rather than brawn. Among
these competitions is the most famous Space Race. Although the Cold War commenced in 1947, the

Essay on Police Brutality and the Use of Force
There are very few careers with as high demands for an ethical standard as law enforcement. Although
there are many careers, which require a dedication to doing the right thing, it is undeniable that there
is a tremendous degree of responsibility and expectations placed on the police officer. While most
professions allow for careful thought and planning, a police officer is often thrust into a situation with
little advanced intelligence about what is occurring. Often an officer is involved in a situation which
has the potential to turn violent. Relying on training allows the officer to successfully navigate a
variety of situations. After a few years on the job, even the rookie police officer is aware that they live

The application of force is often considered ethically neutral it can, under a variety of circumstances,
constitute an abuse of authority. The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) defines the
use of force as that amount of effort required by police to compel compliance from an unwilling
subject (Police Use of Force in America 2001, n.d, p. 1). The IACP defines the use of excessive force
as the application of an amount and/or frequency of force greater than that required to compel
compliance from a willing or unwilling subject (Police Use of Force in America 2001, n.d, p. 1).
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (n.d.), in 2005 19% of U.S. residents 16 and over had
contact with a police officer. Of these contacts, 9 in 10 felt the police acted properly. During these
contacts with approximately 43.5 million persons, an estimated 1.6% had force used against them or
threatened to be used (Bureau of Justice Statistics, n.d.). A study by the International Association of
Chiefs of Police (as cited in Police Use of Force in America 2001, n.d.) shows that force was used 3.6
times for every 10,000 (police/citizen) encounters this suggests that force was not used in 99% of all
cases. Statistical data for excessive force is lacking as there is no standard measure in place. Given
these figures it is safe to suggest that

Essay On The Trojan War
During the time of the ancient Greeks, there was much tension between the Trojans and the Greeks,
leading to the famous Trojan War. It all started when Paris, the prince of the magnificent city of Troy,
abducted a woman after making a deal with the goddess of love, Aphrodite. There are many variations
on how the war began and the battles that took place during it, but one event stayed for certain: The
story of the large, wooden horse that lead to the downfall of Troy. Most of the information about this
historical event was recorded in Homer s famous works, The Iliad and The Odyssey. The Trojan War
was started by a petty feud between three goddesses, fought by brave warriors, and recorded in Homer
s Iliad and Odyssey.
Conflicts began between the Trojans and the Greeks began long ago when King Peleus, who later on
became the father of the Trojan War hero, Achilles, married Thetis, a sea nymph. Their marriage was
celebrated by the all of the gods except for the goddess of discord and strife, Eris, who was not
included in the celebration, (History.com). Infuriated, Eris threw her gift, a golden apple who was to
be gifted to the fairest, amongst the guest. This wedding lead to the Trojan War because of the feud
between the three goddesses, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, that occurred next. They quarreled over the
apple and the title of it possessed and decided to ask Paris, a mortal prince, who truly was the fairest,
most magnificent, goddess. They then bribed Paris with riches

Concentration Camps Of The Second Anglo-Boer War
One of many forms of oppression the British practiced during the Second Anglo Boer War was the use
of concentration camps. Both blacks and whites were placed in the camps, and were required to
perform unpaid labor. However, the black and white camps were segregated, and the treatment of the
inmates in the black concentration camps was vastly different from the white camps. Less rations were
given, and less maintenance was performed on the camps, leading to starvation and poor living
conditions. Even after the war, when the white concentration camps had been transferred to civilian
control, the black concentration camps still remained under military command (Pretorius). Though
many Boers and British believed the war to be a white man s war , blacks continued to be segregated
and oppressed in order to profit off of their labor and gain advantage in battle. Many blacks fought on
the side of the British, believing they would receive education and more economic opportunities with
a victory by England ( Role ). Regardless of what side the natives took, the eventual outcomes of the
war still prevented them from reaching true equality with the soldiers they fought with at the turn of
the twentieth century. Subtle rules and regulations were implemented as a treaty between the English
and Boers prevented blacks from ever escaping the European induced living conditions. The
stipulation in the Treaty of Vereeniging that schools continue to teach in Dutch, and conduct court in

Hydrochloric Acid And Acetone Lab Report
Abstract
This experiment was conducted to find the rate law for the reaction of iodine with acetone. This was
found by using the method rates. The orders of acetone and hydrochloric acid is one while the order of
iodine is zero. The procedure was meant to notice the disappearance of one reactant, Iodine.
Introduction
A chemical reaction is when chemical substances are changed into other substances. When a chemical
reaction takes place, chemical bonds break and new ones are formed. Kinetics is the study of the rate
and mechanism of chemical reactions. Reaction mechanism is a series of individual chemical steps by
which an overall chemical reaction occurs 1. These mechanisms are important in deciding what is the
most efficient way of causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The method of initial rates is a common way to find the order. For this experiment, the time it takes
for the color of iodine to disappear is measured as the initial rate of reaction. HCl was used as the acid
catalyst. An acid catalyst makes a reaction happen faster, but does not get consumed in the process.
The purpose of this experiment is to find the rate law for the reaction of iodine with acetone by using
the method rates.
Experimental
First, the following materials were gathered: Four fifty milliliter beakers, four pipets, four graduated
cylinders, about 30 mL of 4.0 M Acetone, 1.0 M HCl, and 0.005 M Iodine, a squeeze bottle filled with
distilled water, a spectrometer, and a tablet that displays the data from the spectrometer. The acetone,
hydrochloric acid, and iodine were put into three of the fifty milliliter beakers. The tablet was
connected to the spectrometer via Bluetooth. The spectrometer was calibrated for a wavelength of 410
nm. It was calibrated by filling a cuvette with water and placing it inside the spectrometer. The room
temperature was recorded. Reaction number one started off the experiment. For reaction one, as
recorded in Table 1, 3 mL of Acetone, 3 mL of HCl, 8 mL of water, and 4 mL of Iodine were measured
out into the four graduated cylinders. Then, the acetone, hydrochloric acid, and water were combined
into the last remaining fifty milliliter beaker. At the same time, the

Images are More Powerful than Words
The American Heritage College Dictionary defines the term image as An optically or electronically
formed representative reproduction of an object, esp. an optical reproduction formed by a lens or a
mirror. This is what is more commonly referred to as a picture. The definition of a word is a sound or
combination of sounds, or its representation in writing or printing that symbolizes and communicates a

Even though both the tour guide and a pamphlet told everyone exactly what the organization s purpose
was, the Mural actually said more than needed to be said, without the aid of any words. One can agree
with Mitchell Stephens statement in By Means of the Visible: A Picture s Worth that certain pictures
can put most sentences to shame (486), because the images illustrated in this Mural put, every single
word that was written in the UN pamphlet or spoken by the tour guide, to shame. They gave a deeper

words used, both written and spoken.

books about Operation Fortitude, the colossal allied deception operation aimed at preventing Germany

Mary Kathryn Barbier in 2007 and focuses on Operation Fortitude and the Normandy Invasion.

Based on earlier attempts at deception the LCS had a general idea of where their false landing sites
should be (Barbier 8). This was by all means a united Anglo American effort, unlike Operation
Mincemeat which was a solely British endeavor, many American units, like the American 23rd
Headquarters Special Troops, who for example, played a role in Operation Fortitude (Barbier 9). In
November of 1943 the main objectives of the deception operation were planned. A deception
operation for the invasion of France should have three objectives. First, to convince the Germans the
attack was coming in the Pas de Calais region or east of there. Second, to keep the Germans doubting
the real date and time of the attack and third, during and after the invasion contain as many German
troops as possible in or east of the Pas de Calais for fourteen days (Barbier 13). Recognizing that the
deception had to be as realistic as possible it was decided that dummy aircraft, antiaircraft, tanks,
artillery, and landing boats would be assembled in South East England while wireless communication
to simulate a command center were also fabricated by several people with radios in South East
England (Barbier 14 15). Operation Fortitude was divided into two parts, Fortitude North and South.
Fortitude North was dedicated to faking an invasion of Norway, which managed to tie down 250,000

note, measure after measure. I, eventually, devolved into a coffee fueled musical robot addicted to the
sharp smell of varnish, the sight of rosin flying, and the sound of strings singing. My journey was long
and hard, all the while working towards a greater goal. Finally looking at a letter, We apologize, but
we were unable to find a seat for your excellent efforts and talents, I was proud, oddly enough. I was
proud of the letter I was holding, for it defined my determination, hard work, and advancement. I was
proud of the opportunity I seized with both hands. I was proud of the fearless jump I had taken. In my
failure I found that I, as a person, am defined by my success, but only I can define what success is for
myself. Failure could be my definition of success. Hard work and determination could be my
definition of success. Through my failure I learned there was no failure, only success. One tritone

Amyloid Synthesis Essay
Most of the lesions in the brain of an AD patient are from plaques, which consist of beta amyloid
peptides that are derived from APP (amyloid precursor protein) 7. APP (amyloid precursor protein) is
located on the cell membrane and consists of N extracellular terminal, short C intracellular terminal, a
single hydrophobic transmembrane domain and a metal binding site 16, and there are two ways for
APP cleaving (figure 2): The first one is non amyloidogenic pathway which is done by α secretase to
form the soluble sAPPα and the membrane bound C83, and then γ secretase cut the residue of the
membrane part to get p3 and AICD protein 7,17. The second one is amyloidogenic pathway in which
it starts when β secretase cut the APP to shorter sAPPβ than sAPPα and C99 terminal then γ secretase
cut the c99 to Aβ: Amyloid β (40 42 amino acids), and ACID protein (plays an important role in gene
transcription of the protein that responsible for degradation of the beta amyloid monomer) then beta
amyloid is normally degraded by zinc metalloproteases (NEP, IDE ) 7,17 (see figure 2) and then LRP1
protein escorts amyloid beta proteins out of the brain through BBB24. Whereas when the
concentration of the mis regulated metals

The Long Road Of Recovery For A Lawyer
The first step in the long road to recovery for a lawyer is to first confide in others their plight, thus
nourishing a sense of group synergy that can carry them out of an alcoholic abyss. This group synergy
comes in the form of a Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP). With its main tagline being, Created by
lawyers for lawyers, a LAP functions as both a confidential hotline and a support group. There, trained
experts offer heartfelt counseling to lawyers losing a case against alcoholism, addiction, depression,
stress, and other mental health issues. Operating on a 24 hour hotline, the LAP is the perfect third
party between the lawyer and the liquor bottle. It should also be the premier answer to lawyers battling
a potential death sentence by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If not a fellow colleague, then a personal friend or family member will make an excellent surrogate for
communication. When alcoholism and other stress related disorders has a lawyer under heavy scrutiny
from his or her own personal jury, an LAP and other forms of group synergy is the perfect trump card
to battle back and prove that great strength comes not from their own determination, but through the
support of their friends and family. Substance abuse is just one of the many problems that lawyers face
every day when it comes to clients, colleagues, and courtroom dramas. However, it is by far the direst,
and in desperate need of attention. Having this competitive mentality when it comes to the legal
profession provides a toxic environment for both the lawyer and the client. The primary difference
between the push for more LAPs and the court mandated hearings is quite simple: action over
inaction. The court hearings exemplify the age old adage to do as they say, not as they do. The other
gives the lawyer the power to ask for help, and that help shall be given. Telling a lawyer the path to
overcoming their personal demons is not the same as showing them the people whose personal and
work lives were devastated in their wake of self destruction. A lawyer cannot simply get over it,
without understanding how to get over it. That can only be accomplished when the attorney reaches

Synthesis Essay Snowboarding is a great way to stay in shape, relieve stress, and it floods one s body
with joy and happiness; and if something makes you happy, engage in it till it doesn t bring happiness
to you anymore. The benefits of snowboarding are exponential when it comes to the performance of
your mental and physical capacity. Mentally, snowboarding triggers the parts of the brain that feel the
sensation of being happy. Physically, one will reach peak physical condition. One must be warned that
there is an apparent danger when snowboarding. Snowboarding provides benefits to increase the
health status of one s mental state. WebMD shows the prosperity in snowboarding, but Jonathan

On the topic of weight loss Fitdaily claims, snowboarding is an aerobic exercise that offers an average
of up to 450 calories per hour. When I lived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, no one could take me off the
slopes, if I was given free time I was snowboarding, and every time I would receive an amazing
workout. Snowboarding works out all major muscle groups... like the ones in your feet and ankles.
You ll use your quads, hamstrings, and claves to ride the board, your ankles and feet will help steer the
board, and your core will get stronger as you use it for balance, based on an article on Fitdaily.com.
Training and strengthening all of these muscles, makes the possibility of muscle failure irrelevant, and
giving one more control over their body s functions. Jonathan Chang elaborates on the idea that, many
snowboarders get great cardio benefits and calorie burning from the extended exercise... When
exercising outdoors, such as snowboarding, one is gifted with cardiovascular gain, ultimately making
the heart stronger and able to perform excellently until one is to pass

How Did The Reaganomics Affect The Economy
From a liberal perspective, the Reagan Revolution was insignificant for the United States. For
example, Reagan s plan was to stimulate the economy by introducing the Reaganomics. He lowered
tax rates, which left more money for individuals and businesses to spend, save, or invest. President
Reagan cut federal taxes by 25 percent over a three year period, but the economy continued to struggle
for two years and the unemployment rate rose. Although, the personal income grew in the 1980s, the
income gap between the rich and poor widened. The Reaganomics assisted the rich, but hurt the poor.
These tax cuts would raise wealth among the rich and then would trickle down to all Americans. The
problem with that is that the middle class Americans would have to wait for trickle effect. ... Show

In addition to Reaganomics, the federal budget deficits climbed in his years in office. Before President
Reagan was in office the budget deficits were below $75 billion and then from 1982 to 1989 the
annual deficit surpassed $100 billion. The Department of Defense annual budget increased
approximately 85 percent. During his presidency the national debt tripled from $908 billion in 1980 to
$2.6 trillion in 1988. Liberals believed that the debt was acceptable if the government invested in
education, transportation, healthcare, and other economic and social issues. When President Reagan
was in office, he cut most of the programs that President Johnson had created to benefit the low
income families. The government spending did not make all Americans prosper. The social issues
were not solved because the government spent the money other issues like to pay for the interest on
the debt. Today, these social problems still remain a problem in the United

The Importance Of Identity In My Life
What is Identity? For almost everyone, they would say that it is who you are. But, it means so much
more. Identity is the experiences that will influence your life. Your identity is who you are and the
decisions you make. Without identity, you wouldn t be who you are today. Your identity can change in
a matter of seconds, and there is no way to ensure one s outcome
In my life, I have had various events that contribute to my identity. One of the biggest events that have
affected my life is when I had my first seizure. I was around the age of five. It was around 5 at night,
and I was at my babysitter s house. That night when we were eating dinner, I know that I didn t like
the type of pizza it was because it was supreme. Once I had finished my breadstick, I was going to
grab another one. In an instant, my babysitter, Laurie, had slapped my hand. I didn t cry, but it did
make me upset because she could have said no. After a couple of minutes, my vision became very
blurry, and all I could hear was a ringing noise. My body went numb, and all of a sudden everything
went black. When I came to I was on the floor with a throbbing headache. My babysitter had already
called my mother, and she was already on her way to the house. She only worked a couple minutes
away from her house so it didn t take very long for her to arrive there. When she came inside the
house, she looked scared. She kept asking me what happened, but I had no idea. She then grabbed my
shoes and took me to the

followed by a critique of the work, and then an examination of the author s qualifications and

Community Policing Issues
Police administrators have to hold their officers to a high ethical standard and the officials themselves
must be held to a high moral level, if law enforcement agencies and community relationships are
going to be strengthened. According to Rukus, Warner, and Zhang, Community policing strategies
were designed to give residents greater empowerment by allowing them to participate in deliberations
on policing and work more closely with officers on the street (Community Oriented Policing Services,
2014). In order for officers ethics to be shown, they must communicate and bond with the citizens in
the communities that they serve. Today, many people just believe that police officers are bad because
officers have been portrayed as individuals who just arrest and shoot people. Police officers should
communicate with people every day, not just when they are arresting someone or serving warrants.
Overall, the article by Rukus was very informative. It highlighted the pros of law enforcement
agencies, building community relationships and the citizen s roles in establishing those relationships.
According to Hickman, Powell, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the command staff will require officers to park their cruisers and talk to people in the
community for a decent amount of time, weekly. Organizations that have a lot of racism throughout
their ranks, have a difficult time with getting and maintaining the trust of everyone in the community.
This is because if a certain race can t trust that officers are going to be fair when policing, then they
can be intimidated by the officers and have a distrust for the agency as a whole. The second is this,
Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself (Mark 12:31). The Bible suggests that an agency who has
police officers who are racist in their ranks are offending God. God calls all of His children to love
one another, regardless of what they might look

Similarities Between Gilgamesh And Noah
The Epic of Gilgamesh and Noah and the Ark are two very famous stories that contain a variety of
similarities and differences. The story of Gilgamesh, dating back to the third millennium B.C.E., tells
the story of the hero, Gilgamesh, trying to find a way to become immortal after the death of his friend,
Enkidu. He confides in and listens to the story of Utnapishtim, a former mortal whom the gods granted
eternal life to after he was chosen to survive the wrath that was brought down upon mankind. The
story of Noah, which dates back to around 2349 B.C.E. 2348 B.C.E., tells the story of a man named
Noah who was spared by God after He also exterminated mankind. There are many comparisons for
these stories, including the floods used for human punishment, the release of birds once the flood
ended, and the underlying fact that both protagonists, Utnapishtim and Noah, were righteous heroes.
However, these stories do contain differences, such as the dates of when the stories took place, the
length of both the floods, and the landing location of their boats. One of the main similarities between
The Epic of Gilgamesh and Noah and the Ark was the floods used for human punishment. In the story
of Gilgamesh, the god Enil heard the clamor of humans and was aroused by the noise, becoming
frustrated with mankind since he was not able to sleep. He went to the gods in council to beg his case,
which led to everyone coming in agreement to exterminating mankind using a flood. The god Ea

  • 2. What Is The Importance Of Memory In Our Lives The Importance of Memory in Our Lives Memory is a process that involves retention, retrieval, and using the information that is taken in by the senses and stored. Memory can be compared to a time machine that allows you to go back into any moment in time. Memory can also be used by students to remember material for exams, their daily schedule, names, phone numbers, and directions to places. There are other things that students are not aware we use memory for such things are having conversations because memory is needed to track how the conversation is flowing as well as finding a class because it is necessary to remember the spatial layout of campus. Studying Memory Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin (1968) proposed a model called the modal model of memory and was sort of a compilation of many features of models that were being proposed at that time. The model has structural features which are three stages. The first state is sensory memory which is where all information that is being taken in is held for a couple of seconds. The second stage is the short term memory which can hold 5 to 7 items for 15 to 30 seconds. The last stage is long term memory can hold a large amount of information that can be stored for years or decades. This memory system is described as a control process because it is active and is controlled by the individual and differs from person to person. Control process includes rehearsal which is the repetition of a stimulus in order to keep it in your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The case of American Apparel(a clothing manufacturer): Charney squarely declares : I ve had relationships, loving relationships, that I m proud of. I think it s a First Amendment right to pursue one s affection for another human being. And he is talking about his staff. He has admitted to having numerous love affairs with colleagues in the past. He is even known to work at office dressed in nothing other than underwear. This attitude in fact percolates to American Apparel s culture, is almost second nature for most of the employees and is visible even in the decor of its stores. The stores white walls are dotted with product shots. Like the company s signature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though not a legal requirement for any business(yet), these programs do tend to serve as an assurance in the minds of the employers that should there be a case of sexual harassment at work, they do have a recourse, a channel to address it. And to protect them in case a lawsuit is filed. Some reports suggest that sexual harassment cases are increasingly on the rise. Not only this, the reports also suggest that the harassment has reached the higher levels of management, as in the case of American Apparel. Keeping this in mind, it becomes all the more imperative and necessary for a firm to adopt a sexual harassment prevention policy. It is imperative that an employee is provided a safe and comfortable environment to work in. In Sexual Harassment in the Workplace: A Primer , Barry Roberts and Richard Mann recommend that businesses need to understand sexual harassment; communicate a policy; enforce a policy; establish procedures; and enforce policy. In that respect, a sexual harassment training program plays an all important role. For a policy or set of grievance procedures to be effective, all employees, from supervisors to line workers, administrators to custodial staff, need to be knowledgeable about the company s policy and grievance procedures. Sexual harassment training needs to be very explicit in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. South China Sea Between The People s Republic Of China Essay INTRODUCTION The ongoing dispute in the South China Sea between the People s Republic of China (PRC), and the various littoral states (Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and the Philippines) has been a topic of intense debate and observation in the international community. While each of the littoral states attempts to enforce and control the 200 nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) allotted to them by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the PRC is claiming much of the South China Sea for itself roughly 90 percent on the basis of a Kuomintang map from 1947 (Fensom, 2016). This nine dash line extends well beyond the 200 nm limit and into the EEZ s of the respective littoral states. These claims include the Paracel Islands, which the PRC clashed with Vietnam over in the 1970s; Scarborough Shoal, a coral atoll and lagoon west of the Philippines; and the Spratly Islands, a large collection of small, uninhabited islands, reefs, and sandbars on the southern edge of the South China Sea. Additionally, the PRC claims EEZs on its occupied features, despite the Permanent Court of Arbitration s (PCA) ruling that all the Spratly Island features are rocks and therefore are not entitled to EEZs (Permanent Court of Arbitration, 2016). Chinese control of these features would allow them to effectively control the entire South China Sea. Good Digestion Is The Foundation Of Good Health Good digestion is the foundation of good health; for instance, one could theoretically eat a perfect diet and take a multivitamin, but if these nutrients aren t optimally absorbed all that s left is wasted time. The stomach isn t just one giant food processor and storage system, when you really think about it, the stomach is also the barrier between the outside world and your internal physiology. Digestive disorders, treatments, causes, etc. is an expansive topic. For the sake of time, I am going to focus primarily on treating an increasingly common condition called leaky gut syndrome , as it can lead to many serious complications down the road. The strategies you ll use to help fight this, will also serve to increase your body s digestive capacity. Simply put, we need to remove this roadblock to ensure optimal digestion and absorption of nutrients. Leaky gut syndrome is a condition where damaged bowel lining leads to increased permeability of the gut wall to substances that shouldn t be going into your blood or interstitial areas. Certain things like bad bacteria, and foreign invaders do not get blocked from being absorbed through your intestinal membrane, and things that should get absorbed don t. I also want to emphasize that leaky gut is common in irritable bowel diseases such as celiac disease, crohn s disease, allergies, and many other things. This is why I want to focus so much on this aspect. So what are the symptoms? Diarrhea, chronic joint pain, chronic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We spent almost 2 ½ hours at the Virginia Aquarium Marine Science Center, located in Virginia Beach, on Saturday, May 6, 2017. This was a perfect day to observe different ethnicity s groups because it was nice outside with a cool breeze that blew the crowd into the aquarium. We started our visiting the center ourselves before observing the different people and their families. In the beginning, we were undecided on which would a be great place to start to observe without looking suspicious. Therefore, I choose the Loggerhead Sea Turtles (Caretta caretta) that swam in the same tank as some baby sharks. The reason why I picked this particular section out of the entire aquarium was because it had the most beautiful creature that caught your eyes as you walked by. The large amount of data covering numerous cell types from the ENCODE Project creates a resource to be used in the studies of genetic disorders and illnesses and provide testable hypotheses for experimental analysis. ENCODE focused on a limited number of cell types and factors. Future studies could further understanding of the genome and potentially fill in the gaps by expanding the number of cell types and factors examined (ENCODE Project Consortium 2012). Discussion The ENCODE Project seeks to determine the functionality of the elements of the human genome. ENCODE has their own definition of functionality, which includes any discrete genome segment that encodes a defined product or displays a reproducible biochemical signature. With the rapidly degrading definition of the gene in recent years due to insights from projects like ENCODE and the discovery of pervasive genomic transcription, the ENCODE definition of functionality could be the key to determining the new definition of a gene. Although there are many careers, which require a dedication to doing the right thing, it is undeniable that there is a tremendous degree of responsibility and expectations placed on the police officer. While most professions allow for careful thought and planning, a police officer is often thrust into a situation with little advanced intelligence about what is occurring. The IACP defines the use of excessive force as the application of an amount and/or frequency of force greater than that required to compel compliance from a willing or unwilling subject (Police Use of Force in America 2001, n.d, p. 1). According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (n.d.), in 2005 19% of U.S. residents 16 and over had contact with a police officer. Of these contacts, 9 in 10 felt the police acted properly. During these contacts with approximately 43.5 million persons, an estimated 1.6% had force used against them or threatened to be used (Bureau of Justice Statistics, n.d.). • 14. Essay On The Trojan War During the time of the ancient Greeks, there was much tension between the Trojans and the Greeks, leading to the famous Trojan War. It all started when Paris, the prince of the magnificent city of Troy, abducted a woman after making a deal with the goddess of love, Aphrodite. There are many variations on how the war began and the battles that took place during it, but one event stayed for certain: The story of the large, wooden horse that lead to the downfall of Troy. Most of the information about this historical event was recorded in Homer s famous works, The Iliad and The Odyssey. The Trojan War was started by a petty feud between three goddesses, fought by brave warriors, and recorded in Homer s Iliad and Odyssey. Conflicts began between the Trojans and the Greeks began long ago when King Peleus, who later on became the father of the Trojan War hero, Achilles, married Thetis, a sea nymph. Their marriage was celebrated by the all of the gods except for the goddess of discord and strife, Eris, who was not included in the celebration, (History.com). Infuriated, Eris threw her gift, a golden apple who was to be gifted to the fairest, amongst the guest. This wedding lead to the Trojan War because of the feud between the three goddesses, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, that occurred next. They quarreled over the apple and the title of it possessed and decided to ask Paris, a mortal prince, who truly was the fairest, most magnificent, goddess. They then bribed Paris with riches ... • 15. Concentration Camps Of The Second Anglo-Boer War One of many forms of oppression the British practiced during the Second Anglo Boer War was the use of concentration camps. Both blacks and whites were placed in the camps, and were required to perform unpaid labor. However, the black and white camps were segregated, and the treatment of the inmates in the black concentration camps was vastly different from the white camps. Less rations were given, and less maintenance was performed on the camps, leading to starvation and poor living conditions. Even after the war, when the white concentration camps had been transferred to civilian control, the black concentration camps still remained under military command (Pretorius). Though many Boers and British believed the war to be a white man s war , blacks continued to be segregated and oppressed in order to profit off of their labor and gain advantage in battle. Many blacks fought on the side of the British, believing they would receive education and more economic opportunities with a victory by England ( Role ). Regardless of what side the natives took, the eventual outcomes of the war still prevented them from reaching true equality with the soldiers they fought with at the turn of the twentieth century. Subtle rules and regulations were implemented as a treaty between the English and Boers prevented blacks from ever escaping the European induced living conditions. For this experiment, the time it takes for the color of iodine to disappear is measured as the initial rate of reaction. HCl was used as the acid catalyst. An acid catalyst makes a reaction happen faster, but does not get consumed in the process. The purpose of this experiment is to find the rate law for the reaction of iodine with acetone by using the method rates. Experimental First, the following materials were gathered: Four fifty milliliter beakers, four pipets, four graduated cylinders, about 30 mL of 4.0 M Acetone, 1.0 M HCl, and 0.005 M Iodine, a squeeze bottle filled with distilled water, a spectrometer, and a tablet that displays the data from the spectrometer. The acetone, hydrochloric acid, and iodine were put into three of the fifty milliliter beakers. The tablet was connected to the spectrometer via Bluetooth. The spectrometer was calibrated for a wavelength of 410 nm. It was calibrated by filling a cuvette with water and placing it inside the spectrometer. The room temperature was recorded. Reaction number one started off the experiment. For reaction one, as recorded in Table 1, 3 mL of Acetone, 3 mL of HCl, 8 mL of water, and 4 mL of Iodine were measured out into the four graduated cylinders. In November of 1943 the main objectives of the deception operation were planned. A deception operation for the invasion of France should have three objectives.
