The Devil s Arithmetic By Jane Yolen
It is difficult for anyone to truly understand devastating situations that occur in our history unless
we actually experience them ourselves. No matter how much we research, how many pictures we
observe, or even the personal stories from the individuals who endure those hard times. We can
imagine the pain and tragedy of it, however, can we truly understand it? In The Devil s Arithmetic
by Jane Yolen, is a character named Hannah Stern who undergoes a glimpse of such a tragedy and
completely shifts her outlook on her family s history in the Holocaust. Throughout the story,
Hannah depicts an unappreciative hora towards remembering the past of her family, subsequently
she receives the glimpse of the past and completely transforms her attitude. Hannah attended a
Seder that her grandparents performed for Passover. Before she arrived, Hannah made excuses that
she did not know it was Passover, or that she forgot about it, and how she already ate to be excused
from it. Her mother explained the importance of remembering to her, which Hannah replied with,
All Jewish holidays are about remembering, Mama. I m tired of remembering (Yolen 4). Already
demonstrating her indifference about remembering what took place so long ago, one receives the
sense that Hannah is simply another teenager that is ignorant towards such important events in life.
Her ignorance is also demonstrated when Hannah had been younger and took a fascination in the
number on her grandpa s arm, therefore she thought

Q 1: In 1642 Berkeley was greeted with open arms by Virginia important planters who were
alarmed about the possibility of the Virginia Company coming back which in turn would
threaten property titles set after the company s end in 1624. Upon arrival Berkeley comforted
the people that the company would not come to be again which resulted in him gaining two
houses and an orchard by a grateful assembly. His reputation gained more height once he faced a
threat on the colony from the Powhatan Indians, who had delivered the lethal blow on the
Virginia Company when they attacked the colonists in 1622. Although after the second attack
in 1644 Berkeley led a military force to squash the Powatans resistance, and in turn made a treaty
that ended the bad blood for a generation. Berkeley a loyal follower of the Crown even during the
English civil war payed off for Berkeley when they gained back power in 1660 and was named

My Wrestling Experience
Wrestling has been a huge aspect and a great experience of my high school career. Wrestling has
taught me a lot over the past three years from hard work all the way to ethics. But the most
important thing has taught me morph my failure into success. That with hard work anything may
be achieved. My freshman year I was really overweight and could not keep up with any of the
intense exercises we would do. I did not win a single match all year and basically did not improve
all year. The worst part is that some of my wrestlingpeers told me to just quit. That I would never
improve and not do well at the sport.I seriously contemplated every day during wrestling season
and after if I wanted to continue the sport. I would constantly hear my peers you... Show more

But those remarks are what motivated me to improve. I did have good friends who actually
believed in me and told me to not quit it will pay off. Sophomore year comes around and we start
to practice in the room. I had improved a bit because I had gone to the summer practices. They
had given mi endurance so that I could keep up with the intensive exercises. It felt amazing to be
able to keep up with everything. First tournament comes around and I am pumped because I had
put in all the work and pushed myself everyday. First day I lose both of my matches and puts me
into the loser s bracket. The next day I lose 3 straight matches. I had become really frustrated
because I was giving it my all and I still couldn t win a single match. My final match comes up
and I win it. I had this surge of joy jumping inside of me but on the outside I still had my
wrestling face on. My coach taught me to always get up and shake your opponent s hand even if
you lose. I had that down. But he also taught me that when you win you act as if you had done it
a thousand times. I headed back to the stands and my whole team was congratulating me. That
was an amazing feeling, finally being able to celebrate a win. My friends were right after all. I
am currently in my fourth year in wrestling and I have improved drastically. All the failure I had
experienced as a beginner, taught me a life lesson. That failure is a vital step to success. Without
the experience of wrestling I would have never learned this valuable

The Causes of the Seven Years War
The French and Indian war represents the generic notion for what is known in the history of the
European continent as the Seven Years War. This war represented an important moment in the
history of the United States, despite the fact that the actual confrontation and the political disputes
had included the French and the British. Although the political matters were related to the colonial
issues the two sides had on the European continent, the major battlefield in this sense were disputed
in the American colonies. It marked a crucial point in the creation of the United Statesand in
defining the territorial identity of the country.
Causes of the Seven Years War
There are numerous causes that can be stated to justify the war and discussions over the causes of
the war have been vast (Ropes, 1889). Two of the most important however focus on the historical
background on the one hand and the geopolitical control over colonies on the other hand (Evera
n.d) .
The war was a crucial moment in the history of the colonial relations because it codified the total
control of Britain over the sea trade as well as the sovereignty over most part of the North American
continent through the Treaty of Paris.
During the 18th century there was a fierce competition between the British and the French colonial
empires that ultimately led to The Seven Years War. The final result of the conflict favored the
English who, nonetheless, were forced to make appeal to the force of the American

Coca Col A Soft Drink Invented By John Pemberton
TV ads back in the day would try to sell you a product and say why you should buy it. As time
goes on, companies got created with their advertisements, Some added edgy humor in order to
sell to a younger audience. Some even hired celebrities to be in the ad for the appeal. Also, if
something becomes mainstream, companies will take advantage of it by incorporating it in their
products. For example, Marvel became mainstream thanks to their cinematic universe movies.
Their movies became so successful that companies like Coke would ask to use their intellectual
property in their ads. Coca Cola is a soft drink invented by John Pemberton on January 29, 1892.
Before Pemberton died, the drink didn t reach any success because it was not marketed... Show

It is also a bit cheaper to buy. In the ad,it featured the Hulk and the Ant Man from Marvel. Both of
those characters are well known in the Marvel universe. Coke wanted to include those characters
because of their mainstream popularity. The Hulk had his own movie that came out in 2008 and
was a main character in the Avengersmovies which, made more than a billion dollars world wide.
The Ant Man movie came out last year and was a box office success. Since then, these characters
became mainstream to the public. Coke wanted to take advantage of the characters because they
know that they will sell more Coke if they had the characters in their ad. It will make people
want to buy coke since their favorite superheroes are associated with the soft drink. For example,
a kid might think Hey the Hulk is drinking coke, I can be as strong as him if I drink Coke. this
makes the audience want to become like their favorite heroes. According to Signs of Life, Linda
Serger wrote that Many of these most successful films are based on...we identify with the heroes
because...we wish we could do what the hero does. (Serger pg. 387). Serger wrote that if the
viewer is fascinated with the character in film or tv and wants to be that character, the media is
successful on what it wants to do. In the ad, it opens up with Ant Man sneaking into Bruce Banner
s (the human form of the Hulk) lab to steal his last Coke Mini.

Art Form Of Music
Music is art form that doubles up as a form of expression. Depending on where you are from and
or where you live the music that is readily available will vary. For example, the most popular
genres around where I live go from country music to rap and hip hop. One of the biggest factors
of how music is developed is the cultural background that it comes from. Ancient tribal societies
have used music as a foundation for gatherings and to express history. In reality, music has been
around for thousands of years and people were expressing it way before the 21st century.
Music helps define character and allows self expression in a more unique matter. For instance, folk
music, this type of music originates in traditional popular culture and is typically of unknown
authorship. Most rap artists nowadays write about drugs and making money but others are just
using it as a reflection of what s going on around them. There is a rap artist named J Cole who
particularly raps about real life problems and what s going on around him in the city where he s
from. To people who don t live in the ghetto or a poverty struck area, living in the hood isn t as
bad as it seems, but for people that live there, it s terrifying real. J Cole takes elements of what s
going on around him, what he grew up around and personal experiences he s faced. In addition
there is a song called Immortal by J Cole which was released on his new album 4 Your Eyez Only.
In the song, Jermaine (J Cole) examines the gravity

Extinction De-Extinction
De extinction offers the possibility for extinct species to be brought back to life by reproductive
cloning. Critics argue that de extinction will reduce the will of society to protect endangered
species, as well as harm the existing ecosystem upon species reintroduction. However, supporters
argue that many species would be great candidates for de extinctionand will possibly be beneficial to
the ecosystem. I will argue that de extinction should not be pursued. I will argue that reintroduction
of unextinct species could cause humanity to become disinterested in protecting endangered species
due to the loss of finality of extinction. Furthermore, re introduction of extinct species into
ecosystems would negatively shift the balance, and may cause endangerment and potential
extinction of otherwise unharmed populations.
Some supporters of de extinction believe it to be reasonable for reviving recently extinct species
as a last resort in their conservation. However, it is a common belief among critics that it is of
greater import to protect endangered species and reduce human impact so as to prevent extinction.
Shapiro, a supporter of de extinction, argues that de extinction should not compete for funding with
measures for protection of endangered species. However, she argues that both extinct and extant
species have valuable roles in maintenance of the ecosystem (2015, p. 195). In the same paper, she
admits that fears for an increase in the rate of extinction are valid for

Development of Apple Inc. on a Time Sequence Basis

This assignment is examining the development of Apple.inc on a time sequence basis. Its
objective is not to make a list of this American multinational corporation technological products.
Many people interested in technology already know that! More importantly, this assignment
focuses on Apple s ideas, visions, communication, challenges, competition, deals, sales and
financial aspects. Once it grasps a good knowledge of the development of this company, the
assignment tries to analyse this company in a more economic related approach. But why have I
chosen Apple? To tell you the truth, up till a few years ago, to me Apple was just a fruit. It all
changed where at one point in time, I was tired with my Windows desktop PC. It was slow,
crashed all the time and full of unwanted viruses. A friend of mine suggested buying an Apple
desktop computer. To this day I m still excited of owning this technology as if it is first day that I
bought it!

Christianity In American Education In The 1920 s
Christianity has a history of being laced with education in the United States. From colonization of
the United States with Christian textbooks, to laws written to maintain Christianity in schools, and
to now with Supreme Court cases banning Christianity from schools; it has always been a persistent
force in America s education. The foundation of the entanglement of religionand education began
with the creation of the nation s first universities. After that, laws were mandated to maintain the
religious mix, like the Northwest Ordinance. Significantly, the New England Primer and the
McGuffey Readers were the basis of all basic education, as the religious contents influenced

The 1920 s witnessed social change dramatically change the common culture of the United States.
Sinful speakeasies, flappers, and jazz were sweeping the nation, and religious conservatives
were not happy with it. The scientific theory of evolution founded by Charles Darwin was
spreading throughout the world, and into the classrooms of America (Margulies, et al. 70). In
1925, Tennessee passed the Butler Law, prohibiting the teaching of evolution in the state. The
law would ve been passed unnoticed if not for Lucile Milner, executive secretary of the ACLU
discovering it. The American Civil Liberties Union, or ACLU, was created in 1920 to defend
men who refused to fight in World War I (Margulies, et al.74). Upon recognition of the Butler
Law, the ACLU decided to fight the law by advertising for teacher who taught evolution to
represent the case. Dayton, Tennessee was where they found the teacher to testify against the law.
Dayton was economically struggling, and needed the boost from a major event to help benefit it.
Under George Rappelyea s leadership, the town and John Thomas Scopes agreed to represent the
case. Equally important, William Jennings Bryan was a popular politician of the time, who was
the leader of the Populist Party, supported bimetallism, ran for President three times, served as
Secretary of State under Woodrow Wilson, and was an evangelist (Margulies, et al. 78). Bryan
decided to represent the World Christian Fundamentalist in the case, drawing more national
attention to the impending trial. Conversely, Clarence Darrow sided with Scopes. Darrow was
eighty years old and one of the most renowned lawyers in the country, always winning for the
underdog. Initially, the ACLU was apprehensive to Darrow representing the case, but since Scopes
wanted his representation, they had no room

Importance Of Human Interaction In The Novel The Fault In...
In today s society, human interaction is a must. People crave relationships to fill a void in life,
feeding off of others in order to succeed as well as develop the social skills needed to persevere
in the world. Human interaction (such as building relationships with loved ones) is a very critical
and crucial part in life. In 1932, an experiment by Harry Frederick Harlow a well known
psychologist involving rhesus monkeys was conducted. In this experiment, Harlow and his
colleagues separated newborn rhesus monkeys from their mothers, holding each one in isolation
chambers. The study showed that when placed in total isolation for the first eights months of life,
denying all contact with other infants or with either type of surrogate mother, they were
permanently damaged. The need to be accepted and cared for by another person (or in this case
primate) is inevitable. In the novel, The Fault In Our Stars , a theme surrounding relationships is
present and plays a major role in developing the story. John Green not only shows the effects of
cancer and its side effects, he also shows how those detriments on the one fighting the battle can
affect friends and family around them, as well as the importance of building relationships while
you still can. The protagonist, Hazel Grace Lancaster, closes out the world and everyone in it, in
hopes of minimizing her path of destruction that will be made after she dies. On the other hand,

What Is Electromyography Is A Method For Evaluate Levels...
Abstract: Electromyography is a method to evaluate levels of muscular activity. When a muscle
fiber contracts, an action potential is generated and this circulates along the muscular fibers. In
electromyography, electrodes are connected to the skin and the electrical activity of muscles is
measured and graph is plotted. The surface electromyographysignals selected during the muscular
activity are interfaced with a system. The EMG signals from individual suffering from Neuropathy
and healthy individual, so obtained, are processed and analyzed using signal processing techniques.
This project includes the investigation and interpretation of EMG signals of healthy and
Neuropathic individuals using MATLAB. The prospective utilization of this study is in developing
the prosthetic device for the people with Neuropathic disability.

Compare And Contrast Martin Luther Vs Machiavelli
Man of Politics and Man of Faith
When someone asks what should an individual do? , everyone is bound to have different answers
due to the nature of the question, because each answers would be on the basis of his or her own
philosophy and language he or she uses while explaining. The philosophy makes a point and that
synthesized with the language, one makes a direction of his or her argument. To point out for the
two men, Niccolo Machiavelli starts with a philosophy that people are gullible and wicked
(Chapter XVIII), and Martin Luther starts with a philosophy that people can be born again from

answers and directions on the question, especially on how to deal with others. In summary, two
men are mostly not similar in subject of treatment of others; Machiavelli preaches one to work for
calculated self interest even if it accompanies using deceit strategically, when Luther preaches one
to work for selflessness and faithfulness to achieve inner greatness and concordance with neighbors
when interacting. First, Machiavelli and Luther differ in that former teaches that deceit is
permissible for greater good and the latter teaches that truly and selflessly is essential for the same
reason. Machiavelli in Chapter XVIII talks about how good prince should have both humanistic

Theme Of Spring Fever And Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
The purpose of films is to entertain an audience through the appeal of its characters and the plot.
In many cases, most people overlook the setting which plays a major role in the experience. The
choice of location/city by the writer is also a protagonist which can mold the events within the
story. More often than not, creators romanticize the cities by masking the location with their
twisted plots subsiding the presence of the setting. The reader will view an in depth comparison of

Spring Fever released in 2009 and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World released in 2010, side by side these

the ideal Masculine image as suave, successful, refined, wise, fearless, well traveled, and as the

When presented with the character of The Most Interesting Man in the World in the commercial,
masculinity is defined as suave, refined, and successful through one s physical presentation. His

Organs are more viable when they are taken from a body that was continually pumping blood and
nutrients up until the harvest. In past years, movies and media have portrayed medical
professionals harvesting organs from living or brain active people. While this is just an
exaggeration playing on most people s common fears, it is not a total misinterpretation. The organ
market is in dire need of healthy, fresh organs and since demand is higher than supply a group of
people are being discriminated against when it comes to receiving organs they need. The number of
waitlisted patients over 65 years of age has tripled. Unfortunately, the transplant wait‐list has
increased far more quickly than the supply of deceased‐donor kidneys (Curtis). This increase of
older patients in need of kidneys leads to medial professionals making independent utilitarian
judgements on who deserves them most. The nation s organ transplant network is considering
giving younger, healthier people preference over older, sicker patients for the best kidneys.
Instead of giving priority primarily to patients who have been on the waiting list longest, the new
rules would match recipients and organs to a greater extent based on factors such as age and health
to try to maximize the number of years provided by each kidney the most sought after organ for

Deborah Zlotsky Rembrandt Analysis
Deborah Zlotsky is known for her excellence in the artistic world. Her remarkable work of art and
style has officially encouraged viewers to associate her style of artwork and compare its similarities
to past artists such as the Dutch painter, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn and the Italian Baroque
painter, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Beginning with the similarities Zlotsky shares with
Rembrandt. Both paintings share a theme of performing some sort surgery in a way for the
practice of medicine. As you see in Zlotskys art work Promissory Note, the rabbit is being hanged
from its back legs while dripping blood due to some sort of incision for a pregnancy test.
Rembrandt can relate with the theme because of his most famous art piece Dr.... Show more content

For example, the rabbit in Promissory Note. While brightening the lighting on only the rabbit and
the hand holding the litmus paper, Zlotsky dimmed everything else out in the background, which is
also an example of chiaroscuro. One last similarity between Zlotsky and Rembrandt is that in both
paintings, there is a sacrifice happening in some way. Obviously for Zlotsky it s the rabbit, but with
Rembrandts painting, the cadaver on the table was an executed thief named Adriaen, whose body
was sacrificed for the medicine field. Now, the similarities between Zlotsky and Caravaggio.
These two artist share similar characteristics such as using the effect of chiaroscuro, but they
both also have an example of trompe l oeil. Trompe l oeil is a technique that artist use to display
a visual illusion in art by making it three diemensional. Notice how both the sword and blood in
Caravaggios work, Judith Beheading Holofernes, seems to be well detailed and projecting
outwards and in Promissory Note, both the rabbit and the hand holding the litmus note are also well
defined and given that three diemensional look that gives the visual illusion of coming out of the

Self Perception
When we look at the sky the first thing we wish to see are the stars, those
amazing shinning objects everyone talks about, but not all see. Self concept and
perception work the same way. Through interpersonal communication we relate,
communicate and evolve with other people physically and emotionally and it s affected
by one s self concept, perception and emotion.
Self concept is a term used to refer to how someone thinks about or perceives
themselves. How we think about and evaluate ourselves and how aware we are of
ourselves as a concept to be. A more stable definition is, as Baumeister provides, the
individual s belief about himself or herself, including the person s attributes and who and
what the self is .

The simpler the message, the easier the
other person will get it. You can have a simple discussion by asking straight questions
to someone and having direct and concrete responses. When you have a hard time
discussing an issue that you not know exactly how to express, your recipient might
loose himself in the conversation. Like in any type of communication, there s a chance
that the intended meaning is lost. Specially, when people try to express their feelings
the meanings get wrongly perceived. A person might want to break up a relationship but
in a nice and mature way, so they try to smooth the situation and be sensitive about not
saying something dry that can hurt its partner. But, if it is too sensitive and too nice, the
meaning could get wrongly perceived and the recipient might think its just an issue they
will get over easily, when the point totally was not that.
Perception is someone s reality, it determines how they perceive information from
another person and how the perception of others is the product of how you view
yourself. Perception can be learned, physical or cultural depending on your
environment.
They type of learned perception is formed with someone s personality, from the
thoughts, ideas and beliefs that are taught. For example, when a child communicates
and transmits information with his parents, the parent s personality traits, beliefs and
ethics of life will reflect in the kid. He

Digital Dark Age Essays
Digital Dark Age For thousands of years, we humans have kept records. We have carved on walls
and rocks, carved on tablets and stones, and written on leaves. Many of these records have
survived to this day; as we have used them to read, learn about, and understand our history and
ancestors. The invention of printing made writing records much easier and faster. Information that
changed the world had been printed on paper, and some of this information too survived till this
day. In the 20th century, we began keeping records and saving information in a different way:
technological, computerized and digital format. This way of keeping information included media
such as pictures or films. Henceforth, different programs have been made and... Show more content

Some programs made to read digital information no longer run. Nowadays, you rarely find drives
that read 8 floppy disks or floppy disks from 2000. If a program that reads a certain type of
information saving device is no longer available, the information on that device may disappear
forever. Some family information may be lost, information held sacred by the family members. And
not only such information, but also data from pivotal scientific research, theories and discoveries
may be lost too.
Many people believe that a digital dark age has already begun. These observations about the present
times form the basis for this conclusion:
Enormous amounts of digital information are already lost forever. Digital historycannot be
recreated by individuals and organizations cannot recreate a digital historybecause it was not
archived or managed properly or it resides in formats that cannot beaccessed because the
information is on out dated word processor files.
Information technologies are essentially obsolete every 18 months.
There is a proliferation of document and media formats, each one potentially carrying their own
hardware and software dependencies (Kuny).
Before this digital form of a dark age takes over, what must be done to preserve our digital
information and records and keep them from disappearing? Foremost, we need to boost

The Industries Experiment on the Planet
Data was collected in several locations: a natural forest, a clear cut, and a plantation. Within these
spaces, the five bodily senses sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste helped to identify how each
location felt overall. In addition to the raw data collected, further analysis was undertaken using
information obtained in class. Ideas within the course were applied to the three locations, and an
analysis of the course content was applied to everyday problems concerning environmental issues
that stem from greenhouse gas emissions caused by mega industries. The world s largest and most

Greed is the main driving force behind industries that profit from deforestation, damage to the
natural world and climate are the collateral damage. The clear cut area lacked both fauna and
flora. In the distance, the chirping of birds could be heard, but it was quite faint. The smell of
trees and fresh dirt lingered slightly; it was dry on the ground, and the area felt as though it was
barely hanging on to any semblance of its former life. There was a great feeling of emptiness and
sadness. The point of herbicides is to kill off the broad leaf trees, so that the needle trees would not
be required to fight for space and survival. (Davies, 2016)
Plantation UNB Woodlot The plantation was difficult to spot amongst the many other trees. A
search throughout a thin trail system was needed in order to locate one. Whilst stepping into the
plantation, there was a great probability of overlooking it as simply another section of natural
forest. Although there were many trees that resembled one another, it was surrounded by
natural forest, so it blended in. The three ways to tell that an area has been converted into a
plantation are: (a) if the trees are quite evenly spaced, (b) if there are more of one species of tree
than others, and (c) if there are no broadleaf trees or they are sparse and very small. One could
hear the sounds of birds chirping and woodpeckers nearby, and the smell was strong of pine, as it
was a pine plantation. The general

A Comparison of the Methods of the Suffragists and the Suffragettes
There were two main groups in Britain during the early 20th century who were both fighting for the
same cause, women s suffrage. Although in the end they both wanted the same outcome, they went
about trying to win the vote in completely different ways. the first group to be established lead by
Millicent Fawcett were the suffragists, they were made up of mainly middle class well educated
women, and the suffragists believed the best way to get the vote was through peaceful tactics such
as petitions and peaceful marches. Groups began to set up all over the country showing their
support for this movement, and eventually the unified in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They had completely different ideas about how to gain suffrage for women; they believed that
the peaceful, very proper campaign being used by the suffragists was going nowhere fast. So
they believed that they needed to do something different they chose to try and gain suffrage by
any means possible whether it was legal or illegal, as they felt any actions were justifiable in
their fight for the suffrage they felt women deserved. A significant example of this is when
Emmeline s daughter christabel spat in a policeman s face, she was subsequently arrested tried
and sentenced to a custodial sentence which is what she wanted as it gained huge publicity for
their cause but it was bad publicity society in general was outraged at what this woman had done.
They saw any publicity as good publicity, as it put their issue in the public eye.
The suffragists always used the same method, a peaceful protest. They would create petitions, hand
out leaflets, they would politely ask MP s to attend their lobbies and meetings and listen to their
thoughts. They believed their peaceful protest and strength of argument would win over the support
of the men in high up places and therefore give them what they wanted.
On the other hand the suffragettes had a much more intense way

The Crisis Center For South Suburbia Essay
This past week at the Crisis Center for South Suburbia was not as eventful as the past two weeks.
The clients that were causing frequent verbal altercations have either exited on their own, exited
involuntarily, or been given a written warning in which they are following the conditions of. I
now have only one client on my caseload, since the other had voluntarily exited herself and her
son. On Monday, 10/31/16, I was able to help the children in shelter celebrate Halloween. We set
up trick or treating spots throughout the shelter and I also was able to handout treat bags that
were donated to the shelter. The kids seemed to have some fun with the little celebration we were
able to give to them. Also on that day, I worked my first evening shift. The evening definitely has
a lot more activity since most clients are back from work or other commitments during the day.
During this time, it was just myself and D working. In the midst of all the activity, we had a
medical emergency that I was able to respond to. Tiffany* had been discharged from hospital with
the understanding that she had a mild heart attack and would need to have a stent put in later. Upon
arriving back from the shelter, something was just not right with her. Myself along with another

Comparing Islam And Radical Islam
Islam and radical Islam are a hot topic among media outlets and dinner tables, often being confused
that they are either two different things or derivatives of early Christianity. The fact remains that
Islam and radical Islam are one and the same and, though there may be some early similarities to the
Old Testament, Islamand Christianity are as different as the clouds in the sky to a deep, barbed
pit. Though I will not be covering every facet that exists between the Bible and the Qur an, I will
be covering the so called difference between radical Islam and its moderate counterpart, abrogation
and how it works within Islam, differences between Jesusand Muhammadas figure heads, and the
ethical behavior between neighbors in relation to Islamic and Christian beliefs. Radical Islam is
a relatively new term that mainstream media, and empathizers of the Muslim faith, have
adopted to defend the ideals of Islam without calling it Islam. Radical, in this sense, would mean
either extreme or differing from the majority of the Muslim population. However, if we take a
look into the roots of Islam and the laws put in place by Muhammad hundreds of years ago, we
notice that the moderates are the true anomaly, as detailed in the non partisan work Is the Quran
Hate Propaganda (TheReligionofPeace [TROP] 2002 2006). The Qur an lists several books
pertaining to the rules of government, military, and social laws of the Muslim people, however, it

Animal Pollution
The environment which we live in is polluted every single day. The carelessness of humans today is
further damaging the ecosystem in some ways, more identifiable than others. Factory farming is a
system of rearing livestock using intensive methods, by which poultry pigs, or cattle are confined
indoors under strictly controlled conditions (Merriam webster). The animals are forced into the
participation of the supply and demand through cities and towns. Many may be oblivious to the fact
that the animalindustry is a leading factor of pollution. The global movement of intense meat
production is negatively affecting climate changes, ocean pollution and the animal food chain.
The process of meat production is causing the earth s climate to unnaturally change. Factory farms
use a variety of toxic chemicals to feed, grow and execute the animals. One of the chemicals used
on factory farms is Carbon Dioxide. Burning fossil fuel (oil and gasoline) releases a considerable
amount of carbon dioxide. Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons, primarily coal, fuel, oil or natural gas,
formed from the remains of dead plants and animals. It takes, on average 11 times as much fossil
fuel to produce a calorie of animal protein as it does to produce a calorie of grain protein. In the
end, more carbon dioxide is released during the production of meat rather than the manufacturing of
vegetables and plants (Peta, p.1) Another toxic chemical that is often released into the atmosphere
because of factory

Global Effects of Ozone Depletion Essay
Global Effects of Ozone Depletion
Ozone depletion in the earth s atmosphere is under constant scrutiny by the American press and
people. Perhaps the concern is warranted; the ozone layer protects life on earth by absorbing 97
99% of the damaging ultraviolet radiation from the sun (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
2006). Over the past twenty years, the stratospheric ozone has decreased approximately 3% per
decade. Possible concerns have been raised about loss of polar caps, DNA damage, increased
human health risks, and environmental process disturbance. Emerging research has helped clarify
effects of global ozone depletion. Three areas that have received recent scientific attention include

al., 2004). However, approximately 90% of chloroform comes from natural sources. Therefore, if
increased UV radiation has a similar effect on other natural chloroform emitting sources, the
increase in organohalogens could be much more significant. If such an increase were significant, it
would create a vicious circle increased UV radiation causes stress to living organisms; increased
stress causes a higher production of organohalogens; organohalogens breakdown stratospheric
ozone; lower levels of ozone increase earth s surface radiation.
Increased surface radiation has also been linked indirectly to increased decomposition time.
Barley that has been exposed to increased levels of UV B radiation has been shown to have
increased levels of lignin (a binding agent) and cellulose (Pancotto, et. al., 2005). Microbes are
unable to breakdown lignin and cellulose as quickly as soluble carbohydrates. As a result,
decomposition takes longer. Scientists speculated that barley litter exposed to higher levels of UV
radiation would decompose quicker than barley exposed to ambient levels of radiation (regardless
of exposure to UV radiation during growth). However, a group of American and Argentine scientists
found the slight decrease in decomposition time to be insignificant compared to the overall increase
due to higher levels of cellulose and lignin. It is important to note, however, that the

Jerusalem By Saladin
The Capture of Jerusalem by Saladin A Crusade is military excursions made by Western European
Christians during the late eleventh century through the late thirteenth century. Crusades offered
peasants an escape from the brutal Feudal System, because peasants who took up the cross were
freed from feudal obligations. Pope Urban II sought to unite the European Christians, to increase
personal power, to counter the rising power of Seljuk Turks, and to provide pilgrimage to the Holy
Land. Peter the Hermit, instigator of the Crusades, spread Crusade fever preaching all over France
which, attracted outcasts, criminals, beggars, and thieves. Additionally, the nobles wanted to

with the crusaders. However, a series of provocations by the Crusaders broke the truce by attacking
trade caravans under the protection of the treaty. This enraged Saladin and triggered the invasion of
the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Although the Crusader army was similar in size to Saladin s army,
Saladin had various advantages because he knew the climate and terrain, used better tactics, and
was militarily organized. On the other hand, The Crusades were divided and the King was easily
persuaded by bad counsel. In addition, The Crusaders were too weak to fight due to the
unfamiliar conditions such as the weather (too hot), long distance journeys, lack of water, and
were also saddened by the capture of the True Cross, the King, and Reynald of Chatillon. The
capture of Jerusalem is historically important because it led to the end of first kingdom of the
Jerusalem. This would also cause a European comeback with the third crusade in

These algorithms have their own positives and negatives. New algorithms are evolving day by
day. Two algorithms listed below are discussed in this essay. a)Quantum Key Distribution
b)Honey Encryption. QUANTUM KEY DISTRIBUTION: This algorithm uses photons to
transfer the data. Each data is represented by a single photon. There are two states of photon
namely, polarization and spin. If the bit equals 1, then it is polarization and if the bit value
equals 0, it is spin. A sequence of laser beam is generated in horizontal or vertical direction at the
sender s end. It is then transmitted and the receiver measures the rate of polarization. If the rate of
error is too high, then the receiver can identify that somebody tries to hack the data. If a person
tries to intercept the data, the photon gets destroyed and the interceptor must generate a duplicate
photon. The properties of photon make the user impossible to generate an accurate duplicate. This
increases the error. The zero error represents that the transmission is secure. Benefits of QKD:
1.Highly secure. 2.Data hacking is easily detectable. 3.Transmission over air is also possible.
4.Simple usage. 5.Easy maintenance. Limitations of QKD: 1.Expensive. 2.Cannot be used for long
distance higher than 90 miles. 3.Ideal air condition is mandatory to transfer via air. Applications of

Intersectionality Essay
Women s history is a history of oppression. Throughout time, women have faced systematic
domination, which has ultimately informed women s identities and shaped their roles in society.
However, the oppression of women is not uniform and different groups of women have
experienced sexist oppression to different degrees and in vastly different ways. This is largely due
to intersectionality, which is the idea that the convergence and interaction of various oppressed
aspects of one s identity uniquely affect individuals and social systems. As KimberlГ© Crenshaw
discusses in Intersectionality and Identity Politics: Learning from Violence Against Women of
Color , women of color are situated in such a way that they belong to at least two subjugated
groups. Their particular position exemplifies intersectionality because they are victims of
overlapping patterns of sexismand racism, leaving them completely marginalized. Furthermore,
intersectionality highlights the interconnectedness and multiplicity of oppression in society. In her
essay Intersectionality is a Big Fancy Word for My Life , Mia Mingus explains how the oppressed
can also contribute to oppression. This concept in culmination with discrepancies in discrimination
within communities leads to a fraught and complex dynamic that has lasting impacts. Societies
must recognize intersectionality in women history in order to fully comprehend and rectify the
oppression of today.

How would the bacterium use its flagellum for chemotaxis?
Bacillus is a rod shaped cell. The flagellum on the surface of the bacterium can detect nutrients in
the environment and they are drawn to it when the nutrient concentration is high. It spins its

Violations Of HIPAA
HIPAA is the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. The primary
goal of the law is to make it easier for people to keep health insurance, protect the confidentiality
and security of healthcare information and help the healthcare industry control administrative
costs. Under HIPAA, patients have the right to access and control their health records. In order to
safeguard protected health information (PHI, or patients individually identifiable information),
health care providers must restrict access to the information and have patients permission to
disclose it. Federal and state governments enact HIPPA. HIPPA is a federal law and therefore the
rules apply to all states. The state government handles violations until the federal government
needs to step in. Some things to keep in mind when employed by places of health care are,
always keep the patients information confidential unless privacy release forms are signed. Never
talk about a patient with another coworker or someone outside of work. The only time it is ok to

Charles I, Louis Xiv, And Peter The Great
In the latter half of the 1600 s, monarchial systems of both England and France were changing.
Three royal figure throughout history who all tried to establish a role of absolutism in their
societies all of them had varying factors with the greatest success from least to greatest being
Charles I, Louis XIV, and Peter the Great. Absolutism is a form of government where a king or
queen rules with unrestricted powers. They are often followed in heredity by passing on the
leadership through bloodlines. All over the world these bloodlines still exist except, that most
of them only remain as a symbolic figure or a person of fame. A couple of monarchs that still
rule are Brunei, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Swaziland, the emirates comprising the UAE, and
Vatican City. The English had been under the combined rule of both the king and the assembly
for so long that they were not ready to give all the power of government to a single person. The
least influential, Charles I, was born in 1600 and died 1649 when he inherited the throne
parliament was very upset with the monarchy and sought to lessen the power of the monarchy.
Charles I tried to rule without consenting Parliament, but Parliament had so much control at the
time that he failed to decrease its power. However, Charles believed in the divine rights of kings.
Charles went on to oppress his people by levying taxes without the consent of the parliament. Many
of his subjects saw him as a tyrannically oppressive leader. He created

She was listed as a soloist but called herself a principal. I believe that is a matter of the Russian
vs. English nomenclature. I have no doubt she wold like to show the Bolshoi what she can do.
That would be quite understandable under the circumstances. Joy s dancing has improved
dramatically. I believe she deserves acknowledgement for that. In the end, no matter what her
motivation has been for entering the various competitions, she has done very well in them. That
says something about her talent. Top professionals from all over the world are judges. She has
also been keeping some impressive company (on tour with Ivan Vasiliev s group/Spain), danced
with principal of Royal Ballet in Australia, danced as Gamzati opposite Herman Cornejo as Solar
at the Kremlin Ballet Festival, often partners with an amazing Kazan principal dancer, Oleg
Ivenko, the lead in Ralph Fiennes movie about Nureyev, both Yulia Makhalina and her Bolshoi
teacher highly praised her after a performance. She has gone out of her way to obtain visibility.
Nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately, she has no guidance in what is appropriate to say and
what is not; and that circles round to jeopardize her chances.

Jacob Riis Research Paper
One evidence I used was how tenement life was before Jacob Riis and other reformers patched
things up. Living in tenements was extremely unformatable. Tenements were dirty and crowded.
Another evidence I used was how Jacob Riis fought for city dwellers. He wrote books and took
picture and published them so the public can see exactly what city dwellers went through. My
third piece of evidence is that our life is significantly better than the life of city dwellers in the late
1800s. These three evidence support my thesis statement. They shows that life was difficult back in
the late 1800s but improved due to Jacob Riis writing and photographs. To develop my thesis
statement, I used many different resources to gather my evidence. Today our... Show more content

Before Riis picked up his pen and camera, our city was a very nasty place to live in. Garbage
filled the streets and children who didn t work or attend school roamed around in the midst of it,
catching bacteria or viruses. For them, it wasn t much better at home, where they most likely
lived in a cramped, dark room with another family. Because people were paid low wages, many
young children had to take on jobs, that usually took advantage of them, to support their family.
Many people don t realize it, but without Jacob Riis, our city would still be the way as I
previously described. New York would be known, not for it s beautiful city lights, busy streets,
and other attractions but for the nasty environment that envelops it. Thankfully, this is not the
case and change in our society has occurred. Jacob Riis is a photographer, news reporter, and
author. By using his skills, Riis crafted books and newspaper articles, completed with pictures to
inform the public about the terrible conditions immigrants and city dwellers suffered in. He also
gave lectures to the public that aimed towards getting the government and upper class involved in
changing the city. Riis wrote and took pictures about child labor. He depicted children working in
unsafe conditions and were paid low wages. He wrote about tenement life and the darkness and
dirtiness that came with it. He also wrote about the dirty water supply and

Kops Argument Against Racial Profiling
Racial Profiling has been in the practice of Law Enforcement since the 1940 s. The use of Racial
Profiling should be eradicated because of the effect it has in the court system, discrimination,
excessive brutality, and the change in lifestyle. Racial Profiling is an unnecessary practice, there are
alternatives to the practice.
Racial profiling is when a police officer uses an individual s race for foundation to question he/she
with the expectation of he/she committing a crime. Copious amounts of minority races are prone to
this practice that such law enforcement use, such as African Americans, Latinos, and Middle
Eastern Americans. Levels of racial profiling are exercised by certain law enforcers. Consequently,
there are various factors that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brock Turner and Cory Batey were both found guilty for their crimes in the court system. The
only difference is Brock Turner whom is a privileged Caucasian received a lower sentence than
Cory Batey. Cory Batey is an African American male who received a fifteen year sentence for
committing aggravating rape. Both Brock and Cory were attending prestigious colleges
Stanford and Vanderbilt, and were nineteen years of age. Brock was an exceptional Stanford
swimmer who was sentenced six months jail time and was able to get out earlier with good
behavior. Cory Batey was a remarkable football player who was on a scholarship. In the Brock
Turner there was a substantial amount of evidence including eyewitnesses catching him in the
act of raping an unconscious woman behind a dumpster. However, in the Cory Batey there was
ample evidence as well as security cameras that exposes Batey and others carrying an
unconscious woman into a dorm room. In addition, in the Batey incident the evidence involves
photos and videos of the uncalled for act. Consequently, Corey and Brock received different
sentences for the same crime. Corey Batey an African American man is spending most of his
premier life locked up whereas Brock Turner received a slap on the wrist for his crimes. Aaron
Persky who was the judge for the Brock Turner case was very similar to Brock Turner for the
reason that he as well was an impressive Caucasian athlete at Stanford.

Persuasive Speech On Overfishing
Today I will be talking about over fishing, Over Fishing is the over exploitation of fish to below
acceptable levels. This can occur in most bodies of water, such as the oceans, rivers, lakes and
even ponds. In over fishing we are going to be talking about shark finning, Shark finning is the
practice of slicing off the shark s fins while the shark is still alive and throwing the rest of its
body back into the ocean where it can take days to die what must be an agonizing death. Shark
finning is very common in Asia as it is a delicacy and a prime ingredient in shark fin soup.
Overfishing is very bad problem that is occurring more and more in the world today. The core of
overfishing comes from commercial fishing. Commercial fishing is the activity of catching fish and
other seafood for commercial profit. The reasons for overfishing vary, but the main reason for
overfishing is that the more fish equals the more profit. Over fishing is also very bad for the
environment, it has allot of bad affects, one of these bad affects are the destruction of the
environment. Ecosystem destruction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Coastal inhabitants all around the globe live on fish as their primary source of protein.
Overfishing threatens the food security in developing countries. There are still people out there

Altruism in Contemporary Young Adult Literature
The Harry Potter series is an international literature phenomenon that is both criticised and
cherished. Penned by renowned author J.K. Rowling the story of the boy wizard seems to break
the barriers of age, race, religion and gender with the range of its fans. This investigation focuses
on the Harry Potter series and intends to answer the question of Harry Potter: Selfish or Selfless
under the topic of Altruism in Contemporary Young Adult Literature. This investigation is a

It is indicated through a prophecy within the Harry Potter series that
Neither can live while the other survives. (Rowling, 2003: 841).
Harry is told, and deduces on his own, that if Lord Voldemort is ever to perish then he must also
die, giving the impression that without his own death Lord Voldemort can never be destroyed.
This information directly effects Harry s final decision to die without a fight at Lord Voldemort
s hand. It can be argued that due to the information that is provided by the prophecy, Harry s
option on whether or not to sacrifice himself where striped; and with the lack of options came a
lack of choice, and therefore a lack of willingness. This suggests that by Campbell s statement
Harry is not a hero, as his self sacrifice was not willing. Paula Soares Faria, PhD in English
Studies, states in her PhD thesis that
The difference between the villain and the hero can be seen here, not in the act of the sacrifice
itself, but in the purpose it serves. (Faria 2008:85; emphasis Faria)
When taking this into account it can be argued that it was not the Harry s choice or the actual
sacrifice itself that should be considered, but rather what this choice achieved; which was the
death of the section Voldemort s soul that resided within Harry, and by extension, Voldemort s
demise. This suggests that by Faria s statement Harry is a hero, as regardless of why he chose to
sacrifice

The Theme Of Inequality In The United States
Some people experience life harder than others. Many people have to work extra hard to get the
same recognition or respect than their peers. Whether someone has a disadvantage due to their
race, sex, economic position, religious affiliation, disability, employment status, etc., they suffer
prejudice due to this and, therefore, must find a way to get their voices heard and flee from
bigoted hate. While this prevailed more during the last centuries and decreased since the 1960 s,
intolerance still exists on a worldwide level, especially anti black racism in the USA. It prevailed
as one of the most predominant types of inequality in the USA. As a result, many African
Americans tried as hard as they could to get recognized and demonstrate that they provided enough
capability to triumph similarly to their white... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Emily Bernard Letter To My Son Summary
The author, Emily Bernard, is a professor of English and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies at the
University of Vermont. She has experience teaching several courses related to African American
Literature and Race and Ethnicity. The author was motivated to reflect on this topic in response
to The Atlantic article Letter to My Son , written by Ta Nehisi Coates. However, instead of
addressing the fear and danger behind raising African American sons, she instead voices out her
worries of raising African American daughters and her disbelief over the fact that her daughters
can feel protected or safe simply because of their difference in gender. Her ultimate goal in
writing this piece is to inform the audience of the rage and worries she has over raising her
daughters in this society, and that maintaining hope is what allows her to provide [her] children
safety without suffocation. Given that this article was published in July of 2015 and the topic she
is addressing is still extremely relevant to our world today, this conversation is of immediate
political importance as the author is crying out to the world about the relentlessness of Black
American Motherhood and how fearful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end, she is indicating her devotion to keeping hope as it is what allows her to release her
daughters into the world without unleashing her inner rage to the world over the daily trauma

realm of ideas, as she is using Coates article as a foundation for her to publicize the fears of Black
American mothers that have been swept under the rug for so long. This is why she ultimately
attempts to culminate her emotions and inner feelings into a piece of writing for readers around the
world to gain a better sense of understanding

Esperanza Rising Quotes
The main character of the book, Esperanza Rising, is a young girl named Esperanza. The story
begins in Aguascalientes, Mexico on a beautiful ranch owned by Esperanza s father. However,
Esperanza and her family are forced to immigrate to America. Throughout the journey, Esperanza
reveals several of her personality traits. All of these traits can be represented by symbols. First, a
bag of coins can symbolize Esperanza s selfishness and arrogance in the beginning of the story. I
chose this because a selfish and conceited person would want more of something and believe he
or she is superior to other people. Esperanza s selfishness shines through on page 69 where the
author writes, Mona, she said, and reached up to touch the doll. Esperanza quickly jerked it
away and put it back in the valise, covering it with the old clothes. Also, her arrogance is shown
on page 67 when Esperanza is boarding a train filled with peasants and she says, We can t travel in
this car. It s not clean and the people don t look trustworthy. These quotes clearly suggests that
Esperanza dislikes sharing her possessions with the less fortunate, wants more for herself, and
believes that she is too... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her hard work can be signified by a shovel. I chose this object because many jobs that involve
shovels, such as constructing, require great effort and persistence. Esperanza shows her great
work ethic on page 166 when she says, I could work in the fields or in the sheds and Melina and
Irene have already offered to watch Pepe and Lupe. Her hard work is also displayed on page 182
where the author writes, She put her hands under the faucet, rinsed off the avocado, and patted
them dry. They felt better, but still looked red and weathered. She took another avocado, cut it in
half, swung the knife into the pit and pulled it from the flesh. These quotes suggest that Esperanza
is willing to work hard to support her

Jefferson Airplane Thesis
Patrick Burke s thesis is found towards the end of the first section. He stated he will argue that the
Airplane s references to black culture and politics were multifaceted and involved both
condescending or naГЇve radical posturing and sincere respect for African American music. (66)
He discussed the first part of his thesis in the majority of his article. In one example of this, Burke
states it was difficult to tell if Jefferson Airplane were making fun of stereotypes or simply
perpetuating them. (74) In another example, Burke stated that Airplane would casually refer to
African Americans as a derogatory term in their interviews. His explanation for this was it may
have reflected a hip, ironic sense of superiority to racism, or perhaps... Show more content on

(62) It was not, as many people first believed it to be, a simple replication of earlier minstrelsy.
(62) Burke argued against this point by stating that Slick was instead influenced by other rock
artists of the time. They cast themselves as political revolutionaries by enacting a romanticized
vision of African Americanidentity. (63) Burke s final statement on the subject was that Slick s
blackface may have seemed to play at revolutionary policies by imitating African American radicals,
but instead exemplified the frequent emptiness and arrogance of rock s politics.

What Is The Social Class Status In Pride And Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice A classical, romantic satire set during the Georgian era, Pride and Prejudice,
dives deeper than the surface of love and daily life among upper class English citizens. Pride and
Prejudice was written by Jane Austen in 1797, and published in 1813. Austen wrote the story based
on her own opportunities and experiences as the society she lived in progressed from the
Enlightenment to the Romanticism era. Pride and Prejudiceis full of rich historical context. As
readers, we are able to analyze the social classsystem of the British Regency, how wealth is passed
on, and the contrast between men and women during the era.
Social class was of utmost importance throughout the time the novel was written and published.

She expressed her views through her writing and characters in all of her novels, noticeably in Pride
and Prejudice. Courtship became the most important task of a woman, as it was for all the
Bennet daughters. Once the women married, their most important role was to produce male
heirs. By law and tradition, women could not receive any money or property themselves. All the
land and belongings of the family were required to be in the man s name. It was a law that all
women obtained a sum of money or a dowrie from their families once they got married or their
father passed. If the woman married, which was the only socially acceptable option, she would
pass along the money to her husband. If she remained single, she would use that money and only
that money to pay for her living expenses (ВЁHistorical Context Pride PrejudiceВЁ). In the novel,
Elizabeth was close friends with a women who was near the age of thirty, Miss Charlotte Lucas.
Mr. Collins proposed to Elizabeth in chapter nineteen of the novel, within one day of meeting each

Identification of critical information is the process of identifying what information is needed by the
enemy, not so much protecting everything that is classified or sensitive unclassified, but protecting
what is more vital and would be more useful to the enemy. Analysis of threats is the research and
analysis of intelligence, counterintelligence and open source information on the likely enemies of a
planned operation. Analysis of vulnerabilities is to examine each and every aspect of the planned
operation and try to identify certain OPSEC indicators that could reveal critical information and
then compare those indicators with the enemy intelligence collection capabilities used in the
previous actions that they have taken in the past. Assessment of risk is where they first analyze the
vulnerabilities identified in the previous action and see what OPSEC measures can be taken to
prevent the opportunity of the enemy getting information, and then those measures are selected for
execution based upon a risk assessment done by the commander and staff. Application of
appropriate OPSEC measures is when the command implements the OPSEC measures selected in
the assessment of risk, action, or in the case of planned future operations and activities, which
includes the measures in specific OPSEC plans. Assessment of Insider Knowledge is assessing and

  • 2. The Devil s Arithmetic By Jane Yolen It is difficult for anyone to truly understand devastating situations that occur in our history unless we actually experience them ourselves. No matter how much we research, how many pictures we observe, or even the personal stories from the individuals who endure those hard times. We can imagine the pain and tragedy of it, however, can we truly understand it? In The Devil s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen, is a character named Hannah Stern who undergoes a glimpse of such a tragedy and completely shifts her outlook on her family s history in the Holocaust. Throughout the story, Hannah depicts an unappreciative hora towards remembering the past of her family, subsequently she receives the glimpse of the past and completely transforms her attitude. Hannah attended a Seder that her grandparents performed for Passover. Before she arrived, Hannah made excuses that she did not know it was Passover, or that she forgot about it, and how she already ate to be excused from it. Her mother explained the importance of remembering to her, which Hannah replied with, All Jewish holidays are about remembering, Mama. I m tired of remembering (Yolen 4). Already demonstrating her indifference about remembering what took place so long ago, one receives the sense that Hannah is simply another teenager that is ignorant towards such important events in life. Her ignorance is also demonstrated when Hannah had been younger and took a fascination in the number on her grandpa s arm, therefore she thought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. My Wrestling Experience Wrestling has been a huge aspect and a great experience of my high school career. Wrestling has taught me a lot over the past three years from hard work all the way to ethics. But the most important thing has taught me morph my failure into success. That with hard work anything may be achieved. My freshman year I was really overweight and could not keep up with any of the intense exercises we would do. I did not win a single match all year and basically did not improve all year. The worst part is that some of my wrestlingpeers told me to just quit. That I would never improve and not do well at the sport.I seriously contemplated every day during wrestling season and after if I wanted to continue the sport. I would constantly hear my peers you... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But those remarks are what motivated me to improve. I did have good friends who actually believed in me and told me to not quit it will pay off. Sophomore year comes around and we start to practice in the room. I had improved a bit because I had gone to the summer practices. They had given mi endurance so that I could keep up with the intensive exercises. It felt amazing to be able to keep up with everything. First tournament comes around and I am pumped because I had put in all the work and pushed myself everyday. First day I lose both of my matches and puts me into the loser s bracket. The next day I lose 3 straight matches. I had become really frustrated because I was giving it my all and I still couldn t win a single match. My final match comes up and I win it. I had this surge of joy jumping inside of me but on the outside I still had my wrestling face on. My coach taught me to always get up and shake your opponent s hand even if you lose. I had that down. But he also taught me that when you win you act as if you had done it a thousand times. I headed back to the stands and my whole team was congratulating me. That was an amazing feeling, finally being able to celebrate a win. My friends were right after all. I am currently in my fourth year in wrestling and I have improved drastically. All the failure I had experienced as a beginner, taught me a life lesson. That failure is a vital step to success. Without the experience of wrestling I would have never learned this valuable ... • 5. The Causes of the Seven Years War The French and Indian war represents the generic notion for what is known in the history of the European continent as the Seven Years War. This war represented an important moment in the history of the United States, despite the fact that the actual confrontation and the political disputes had included the French and the British. Although the political matters were related to the colonial issues the two sides had on the European continent, the major battlefield in this sense were disputed in the American colonies. It marked a crucial point in the creation of the United Statesand in defining the territorial identity of the country. Causes of the Seven Years War There are numerous causes that can be stated to justify the war and discussions over the causes of the war have been vast (Ropes, 1889). Two of the most important however focus on the historical background on the one hand and the geopolitical control over colonies on the other hand (Evera n.d) . The war was a crucial moment in the history of the colonial relations because it codified the total control of Britain over the sea trade as well as the sovereignty over most part of the North American continent through the Treaty of Paris. During the 18th century there was a fierce competition between the British and the French colonial empires that ultimately led to The Seven Years War. • 7. Art Form Of Music Music is art form that doubles up as a form of expression. Depending on where you are from and or where you live the music that is readily available will vary. For example, the most popular genres around where I live go from country music to rap and hip hop. One of the biggest factors of how music is developed is the cultural background that it comes from. Ancient tribal societies have used music as a foundation for gatherings and to express history. In reality, music has been around for thousands of years and people were expressing it way before the 21st century. Music helps define character and allows self expression in a more unique matter. For instance, folk music, this type of music originates in traditional popular culture and is typically of unknown authorship. Most rap artists nowadays write about drugs and making money but others are just using it as a reflection of what s going on around them. Critics argue that de extinction will reduce the will of society to protect endangered species, as well as harm the existing ecosystem upon species reintroduction. However, supporters argue that many species would be great candidates for de extinctionand will possibly be beneficial to the ecosystem. I will argue that de extinction should not be pursued. I will argue that reintroduction of unextinct species could cause humanity to become disinterested in protecting endangered species due to the loss of finality of extinction. Furthermore, re introduction of extinct species into ecosystems would negatively shift the balance, and may cause endangerment and potential extinction of otherwise unharmed populations. Some supporters of de extinction believe it to be reasonable for reviving recently extinct species as a last resort in their conservation. However, it is a common belief among critics that it is of greater import to protect endangered species and reduce human impact so as to prevent extinction. The law would ve been passed unnoticed if not for Lucile Milner, executive secretary of the ACLU discovering it. People crave relationships to fill a void in life, feeding off of others in order to succeed as well as develop the social skills needed to persevere in the world. Human interaction (such as building relationships with loved ones) is a very critical and crucial part in life. In 1932, an experiment by Harry Frederick Harlow a well known psychologist involving rhesus monkeys was conducted. In this experiment, Harlow and his colleagues separated newborn rhesus monkeys from their mothers, holding each one in isolation chambers. The study showed that when placed in total isolation for the first eights months of life, denying all contact with other infants or with either type of surrogate mother, they were permanently damaged. The need to be accepted and cared for by another person (or in this case primate) is inevitable. In the novel, The Fault In Our Stars , a theme surrounding relationships is present and plays a major role in developing the story. John Green not only shows the effects of cancer and its side effects, he also shows how those detriments on the one fighting the battle can affect friends and family around them, as well as the importance of building relationships while you still can. The number of waitlisted patients over 65 years of age has tripled. Unfortunately, the transplant wait‐list has increased far more quickly than the supply of deceased‐donor kidneys (Curtis). This increase of older patients in need of kidneys leads to medial professionals making independent utilitarian judgements on who deserves them most. The nation s organ transplant network is considering giving younger, healthier people preference over older, sicker patients for the best kidneys. Instead of giving priority primarily to patients who have been on the waiting list longest, the new rules would match recipients and organs to a greater extent based on factors such as age and health to try to maximize the number of years provided by each kidney the most sought after organ for transplants (Stein). Her remarkable work of art and style has officially encouraged viewers to associate her style of artwork and compare its similarities to past artists such as the Dutch painter, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn and the Italian Baroque painter, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Beginning with the similarities Zlotsky shares with Rembrandt. Both paintings share a theme of performing some sort surgery in a way for the practice of medicine. Obviously for Zlotsky it s the rabbit, but with Rembrandts painting, the cadaver on the table was an executed thief named Adriaen, whose body was sacrificed for the medicine field. Now, the similarities between Zlotsky and Caravaggio. These two artist share similar characteristics such as using the effect of chiaroscuro, but they both also have an example of trompe l oeil. Factory farming is a system of rearing livestock using intensive methods, by which poultry pigs, or cattle are confined indoors under strictly controlled conditions (Merriam webster). The animals are forced into the participation of the supply and demand through cities and towns. Many may be oblivious to the fact that the animalindustry is a leading factor of pollution. The global movement of intense meat production is negatively affecting climate changes, ocean pollution and the animal food chain. The process of meat production is causing the earth s climate to unnaturally change. Factory farms use a variety of toxic chemicals to feed, grow and execute the animals. One of the chemicals used on factory farms is Carbon Dioxide. Burning fossil fuel (oil and gasoline) releases a considerable amount of carbon dioxide. Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons, primarily coal, fuel, oil or natural gas, formed from the remains of dead plants and animals. It takes, on average 11 times as much fossil fuel to produce a calorie of animal protein as it does to produce a calorie of grain protein. Increased surface radiation has also been linked indirectly to increased decomposition time. Barley that has been exposed to increased levels of UV B radiation has been shown to have increased levels of lignin (a binding agent) and cellulose (Pancotto, et. al., 2005). Microbes are unable to breakdown lignin and cellulose as quickly as soluble carbohydrates. As a result, decomposition takes longer. Scientists speculated that barley litter exposed to higher levels of UV radiation would decompose quicker than barley exposed to ambient levels of radiation (regardless of exposure to UV radiation during growth). However, a group of American and Argentine scientists found the slight decrease in decomposition time to be insignificant compared to the overall increase due to higher levels of cellulose and lignin. These algorithms have their own positives and negatives. New algorithms are evolving day by day. Two algorithms listed below are discussed in this essay. a)Quantum Key Distribution b)Honey Encryption. QUANTUM KEY DISTRIBUTION: This algorithm uses photons to transfer the data. Each data is represented by a single photon. There are two states of photon namely, polarization and spin. If the bit equals 1, then it is polarization and if the bit value equals 0, it is spin. A sequence of laser beam is generated in horizontal or vertical direction at the sender s end. It is then transmitted and the receiver measures the rate of polarization. If the rate of error is too high, then the receiver can identify that somebody tries to hack the data. If a person tries to intercept the data, the photon gets destroyed and the interceptor must generate a duplicate photon. The properties of photon make the user impossible to generate an accurate duplicate. This increases the error. The zero error represents that the transmission is secure. Benefits of QKD: 1.Highly secure. 2.Data hacking is easily detectable. 3.Transmission over air is also possible. 4.Simple usage. 5.Easy maintenance. Limitations of QKD: 1.Expensive. 2.Cannot be used for long distance higher than 90 miles. 3.Ideal air condition is mandatory to transfer via air. Applications of QKD: ... Throughout time, women have faced systematic domination, which has ultimately informed women s identities and shaped their roles in society. However, the oppression of women is not uniform and different groups of women have experienced sexist oppression to different degrees and in vastly different ways. This is largely due to intersectionality, which is the idea that the convergence and interaction of various oppressed aspects of one s identity uniquely affect individuals and social systems. As KimberlГ© Crenshaw discusses in Intersectionality and Identity Politics: Learning from Violence Against Women of Color , women of color are situated in such a way that they belong to at least two subjugated groups. Their particular position exemplifies intersectionality because they are victims of overlapping patterns of sexismand racism, leaving them completely marginalized. Furthermore, intersectionality highlights the interconnectedness and multiplicity of oppression in society. In her essay Intersectionality is a Big Fancy Word for My Life , Mia Mingus explains how the oppressed can also contribute to oppression. This concept in culmination with discrepancies in discrimination within communities leads to a fraught and complex dynamic that has lasting impacts. • 42. Jacob Riis Research Paper One evidence I used was how tenement life was before Jacob Riis and other reformers patched things up. Living in tenements was extremely unformatable. Tenements were dirty and crowded. Another evidence I used was how Jacob Riis fought for city dwellers. He wrote books and took picture and published them so the public can see exactly what city dwellers went through. My third piece of evidence is that our life is significantly better than the life of city dwellers in the late 1800s. These three evidence support my thesis statement. They shows that life was difficult back in the late 1800s but improved due to Jacob Riis writing and photographs. Before Riis picked up his pen and camera, our city was a very nasty place to live in. Garbage filled the streets and children who didn t work or attend school roamed around in the midst of it, catching bacteria or viruses. For them, it wasn t much better at home, where they most likely lived in a cramped, dark room with another family. Because people were paid low wages, many young children had to take on jobs, that usually took advantage of them, to support their family. Many people don t realize it, but without Jacob Riis, our city would still be the way as I previously described. New York would be known, not for it s beautiful city lights, busy streets, and other attractions but for the nasty environment that envelops it. Thankfully, this is not the case and change in our society has occurred. Jacob Riis is a photographer, news reporter, and author. By using his skills, Riis crafted books and newspaper articles, completed with pictures to inform the public about the terrible conditions immigrants and city dwellers suffered in. He also gave lectures to the public that aimed towards getting the government and upper class involved in changing the city. Riis wrote and took pictures about child labor. He depicted children working in unsafe conditions and were paid low wages. He wrote about tenement life and the darkness and dirtiness that came with it. It is indicated through a prophecy within the Harry Potter series that Neither can live while the other survives. (Rowling, 2003: 841). Harry is told, and deduces on his own, that if Lord Voldemort is ever to perish then he must also die, giving the impression that without his own death Lord Voldemort can never be destroyed. This information directly effects Harry s final decision to die without a fight at Lord Voldemort s hand. It can be argued that due to the information that is provided by the prophecy, Harry s option on whether or not to sacrifice himself where striped; and with the lack of options came a lack of choice, and therefore a lack of willingness. This suggests that by Campbell s statement Harry is not a hero, as his self sacrifice was not willing. Paula Soares Faria, PhD in English Studies, states in her PhD thesis that The difference between the villain and the hero can be seen here, not in the act of the sacrifice itself, but in the purpose it serves. However, instead of addressing the fear and danger behind raising African American sons, she instead voices out her worries of raising African American daughters and her disbelief over the fact that her daughters can feel protected or safe simply because of their difference in gender. The story begins in Aguascalientes, Mexico on a beautiful ranch owned by Esperanza s father. However, Esperanza and her family are forced to immigrate to America. Throughout the journey, Esperanza reveals several of her personality traits. All of these traits can be represented by symbols. First, a bag of coins can symbolize Esperanza s selfishness and arrogance in the beginning of the story. I chose this because a selfish and conceited person would want more of something and believe he or she is superior to other people. Esperanza s selfishness shines through on page 69 where the author writes, Mona, she said, and reached up to touch the doll. Also, her arrogance is shown on page 67 when Esperanza is boarding a train filled with peasants and she says, We can t travel in this car. It s not clean and the people don t look trustworthy.
