Julie Zehner Personal Response
It is my distinct pleasure to recommend Julie Zehner as a candidate for your scholarship. For the past
three years, Julie has been one of my students of the yearbook class at John Glenn High School, and
through my interactions with her I have found Julie to be a student of very high caliber. Two of Julie s
outstanding qualities are her responsibility and her work ethic. I know that, without a doubt, Julie will
follow through with her assignments (and will often voluntarily go above and beyond the required for
helping assemble the yearbook), and her sense of responsibility and the trust I have in her skills led me
to ask her to be the yearbook editor this year. In fact, Julie is enrolled in this class as an independent
study of sorts, meaning

Population Genetics Lab
The Effect of Natural Selection, Heterozygote Advantage, and Genetic Drift on the Allele Frequencies
Over Time
Purpose: The purpose of the Population Genetics Lab was to use the Hardy Weinberg theory of genetic
equilibrium and examine the relationship between evolution and allele frequencies. Additionally this
lab allowed us to examine how microevolution factors such as natural selection, heterozygote
advantage, and genetic drift affected the genotype and allele frequencies. Finally the population
genetics lab permitted us to become masters of finding allele frequencies and establishing a better
knowledge on evolution in populations and how we can calculate if that occurred using the Hardy
Weinberg equations. This experiment is relevant because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cafe Mueller Dance Analysis
Dance Review
The dance review consisted of watching two dance videos posted on the internet via YouTube titled,
Cafe Mueller. 1978 by Pina Bausch and One Flat Thing Reproduced by William Forsythe. Each of
these dance videos is unique and similar with its own story behind the dance movements and settings.
The video, Café Mueller, performed in 1978 by Pina Bausch, was very interesting to watch but
confusing to determine the actual story plot. In the beginning, a woman enters through a revolving
door and hurries around a dark room of chairs. She appears to be confused, scurrying in many
directions, almost like the quickness of life in a dark empty world. As she leaves, another woman
dressed in white almost looking angel like begins to slowly walk around the room very distracted and
helpless as she stumbles around the chairs. The setting of the dance and music selection resembles ...

In the beginning, the video provided mystery and suspense as the two dancers were crawling in a
tunnel like area. Then suddenly the room was overtaken by several dancers dragging flat tables and
placing them with perfection in the middle of the room. After which they returned to the back of the
room and systematically became part of the dance increasing in number starting with 2, 4, and 6 and
so on. There also appeared to be a division of groups and the dancers displayed fighting amongst these
groups in their movements. The music of this video was powerful and spooky as to the quick action of
the dancers. The performance appeared to represent a jazz, lyrical interpretative manner. The outfits
also portrayed that to be contemporary and even futuristic. The movements of the dancers was very
precise, quick and multiple, while occurring at the same time. The most interesting thing while
watching the video was, the dancers were playing off of one another in a very timely

Communication Theories That Are Apart Of Interpersonal...
There are a number of communication theories that are apart of interpersonal communication. Today I
will be using the cognitive dissonance theory, social judgement theory, and the organizational theory
when convincing three people to attend the sport management alumni tailgate. The three people I am
looking to persuade are my uncle Dave, my younger cousin Ryan, and one of my closest friends
named Wes. When deciding on who I wanted to persuade I looked for three people who vary in age as
my uncle is in his 40 s, my cousin is a sophomore in high school, and my friend Wes is 21, the same
age as me. I also wanted to choose three people who I am close with and will trust what I am selling to
them. This paper not only examines the theories that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before I attempt to persuade him, I first wanted to ask him some questions and figure out exactly why
he does not ever attend football games on any level. According to my uncle, he doesn t like the fact
that a football game is an all day event. He mentioned the average cost for a family of four in 2016 to
attend a game was $503. This cost includes what the average family of four spends on parking, tickets,
food and drinks, souvenirs, and programs. Finally, his main reason for not wanting to attend a football
game was that if he was interested in watching a football game he was much more comfortable staying
home and watching it in his basement on his flat screen television with the added benefit of being able
to watch re plays. After reviewing his answers, I realized that it sounded like his reasons were based
off how he visualized an NFL experience due to his reasons being the cost and because it was an all
day event. I assumed that he was not referring to a college football experience. Based off his
responses, I wanted to create reasons that went against what he said that would make it uncomfortable
and hard for him to say no. As the experience of dissonance is unpleasant, we are motivated to reduce
or eliminate it, and achieve consonance (i.e. agreement) (McLeod 2008). My goal was to make his
reasons irrelevant to this event. If a person is induced to do or say something which is contrary to his
private opinion, there

Reflection Paper On Fine Arts
For my second fine arts lesson deconstruction paper, I observed an hour long art class instructed by
Laura Calder at Goldfish Elementary School. This took place Friday October 13th from 9:55 10:55.
There were around 25 1st grade students divided between 3 separate classes. To say the least, I was
very excited to observe an art class because I have always been known for my love of arts and crafts.
In Ms. Calder s lesson, she followed the Illinois Art Standards Initiative Standards including The
learning objective for this lesson was to For her pre instruction, the evidence that Ms. Calder had that
shows what her students can already do is knowledge of previous assignments that include the same
steps student s will be taking in this lesson. During instruction, in order for students to demonstrate
achievement of the learning objective with guidance, she walked around the classroom making sure
each student was caught up with the scarecrow making process and if not, she knew they needed
additional guidance. For post assessment, students with a complete and correctly attached scarecrow at
the end of class will have shown Ms. Calder achievement of the learning objective. To continue, Mrs.
Calder s lesson plan mandated students to have materials such as scissors, a bag of scarecrow
materials, glue, and sketchpads. Mrs. Calder needed a final copy example of the scarecrow, extra
scarecrow parts, and a music player with a CD. Academic language includes students knowing or

Imperialism In India
Imperialism in India had many positive effects and negative effects. India was introduced to more
technology and ways of communication. It also lead to an increase of population and regular living.
But, it also lead to India being dependent on Britain and lead to famine. There were many positive
effects from this. Great Britain and other industrialized countries introduced more transportation
methods and communication like telephones. These things improved cars, roads that can now be
paved, postal networks, and trains. More advanced and high tech machines were made. This being
brought to India helped industrialize new colonies. These machines were made for manufacturing
goods, electricity, cars, vaccines, steel, guns, and steam engines. After colonization, education like

Britain taught herders the process of crop rotation to fertilize their land. Not only did Britain help
them with that, but they also connected India to the modern world through all of this technology,
medicine, and media. The last benefit was cleaning up. Sanitation was not very important until they
were taught cleanliness for health and basic hygiene. From all of the benefits I have talked about, you
might think Britain was great to India, but they also caused so many problems. Wars with Britain, also
against leaders by Great Britain, took money away from India. The East India Trading Company
would buy materials and goods at a very low price while selling their processed goods at a very high
price price. Britain also ruined India s previous economy and industries as a result of Britain making
them import their goods from Britain and not allowing them buy their own goods from India. Because
of this, industries such as the handmade cloth industry, metal industries, and carpentry industries, fell
because cloth was made of better quality for less money in Britain due to mass

Essay on Rebellion for Change
In life there are many situations where rebellion is required for change and improvement. Some are
simple, like growing up and learning not to do certain things and others are more complex like when a
group of people stand up for what they believe, for example, women s rights and black s rights. I
believe that rebellion is healthy for any growing society. There are many things that we do not agree
with, whether it is the law or our parent s instructions. By rebelling we can change our society and/or
ourselves for better.
One type of rebellion is when a child or teenage goes against the rules set in order to find out what is
wrong with going against the rules. To illustrate, a child walks into a candy store with his mother. He
is in shock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rebellion occurs in all age groups whether it is children, teenagers, adults, or even senior citizens.
Most rebellion occurs in either small groups or singularly but occasionally they are bigger.
What do women s rights and black s rights have in common? They are both acts of rebellion that were
required to direct society towards the better light. The fights for rights that have occurred throughout
American history are undeniable. People had to go through unbelievable amounts of misery to get us
where we are today. Kozol feels that if a group of ... people get together and made a scene about what
they feel is wrong then we would finally be forced to listen. (436) This author proves that when a
group of people get together and rebel it can make people see what is truly going on, so others can
seek change. It is necessary for everyone to take a stand in what they believe is truly right; just like the
people before us did. Many people in history have shown incredible amounts of courage; they have
stood up and fought for what they believed was right; this is the way to change.
Rebellion is like a person with a favorite old pair of shoes. A person may be afraid to throw away their
favorite worn out shoes, but after awhile it is time for change when the shoes no longer do their job.
This is a great example of what happened when the black society was tired of being treated like
objects. They protested and went against the old pair of shoes, which in this case

Theme Of Comradeship In All Quiet On The Western Front
Which in the field developed into the finest thing that arose out of the war comradeship, (Remarque
27). Throughout the war, soldiers depend on each other to be able to live another day. Through small
acts of kindness, sorrow from loss, and never leaving one behind emerges the theme of comradeship,
which is clearly represented in the novel, All Quiet On The Western Front.
Comradeship all starts with small acts of kindness, which begins a bond friendship. For example,
when Muller died he gave Paul his boots, which once belonged to Kemmerich; Paul s best friend.
Before he died he handed over his pocket book to me, and bequeathed me his boots the same that he
once inherited from Kemmerich, (Remarque 279). Not only was Muller giving the boots away a sign
of approval, but also was a true treasure for Paul. For example, since previously the boots belonged to
Kemmerich they held memories between Kemmerich and Paul. With memories came symbolism that
the boots represented the last thing Paul could of have of Kemmerich. As well as keeping a secret like
the whereabouts of Tjaden. He asks for Tjaden. We shrug our shoulders, (Remarque 89). Not revealing
the whereabouts of Tjaden expresses that the troops will not rat out their friend even if they get in
trouble for it. This scene signifies comradeship by portraying that comrades have each other s backs.
Troops risk consequences for themselves by protecting their fellow comrades, for they know Tjaden
would do the same in

American Culture In Kenya
Kenya is located in southern Africa and included as one of countries in the Horn of Africa. The word
Kenya brings to mind African safaris with elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, and rhinoceros roaming the
Serengeti with the sun setting on the horizon, great running athletes, beautifully carved masks, and
ethnic people dressed in bright costumes while engaged in chants and dance to the beat of African
drums. It presents itself as picturesque, happy, peaceful, and one can almost hear the music from The
Lion King. Some of that is very true; however, Kenya has some complex interactions taking place and
some challenges to overcome.

The Maasai and Samburu have remained two of the few cohesive and culturally authentic ethnic tribes
of Kenya and have resisted any type of modernization (Kenya tribes 2015). These two tribes, in
particular, attract tourists because of their authenticity. In Kenya, there are many different tribes, each
with different beliefs and cultural values (Guide to Kenya etiquette, customs, culture, and business,
2014). In order to flourish as a nation, all of these various tribes with their own set of traditions and
values are brought together, or integrated, to form a new, multicultural society (What does integration
mean and why is it important, 2010). The symbolism of Kenya lies in the power of its flag. The flag
represents unity among the people of the country and strength as a whole.
The Kenyan flag has three horizontal stripes red, black and green separated by thin white bands. The
black symbolizes the people of Kenya, the red stands for the blood shed in the fight for independence,
and the green symbolizes agriculture. In the center of the flag is a red shield with black and white
markings and two crossed spears, which stands for vigilance in the defense of freedom. (Stanford,
2006)

Essay about Women in The Workplace
Women in The Workplace
Gender plays a huge role in workplace success and can be a big challenge especially if the employee
is a woman in a male dominated workplace or career. No matter how hard nosed, ruthless, workaholic
a woman may be, or how much personal success she achieves, there will always tend to be some type
of obstacle to keep her from getting completely to the top of the corporate ladder. She must also still
fight stereotypes that undermines her confidence or limits her potential. Since the early 20th century,
women and minorities have sought equal opportunities in education and in the labor force with little
success. These obstacles or barriers are all known as the glass ceiling.

Every industry has its own version of an apprenticeship and the simple way to determine the boundary
of apprenticeship is to find where in a particular company or organization, the line is that must be
crossed before an individual is ?in the pack? to be considered for management or leadership.
According to the ?Sorcerer?s Apprentice to Through the Looking Glass,? women in every industry
and profession report that sexual harassment is most common during apprenticeship. Sexual
harassment is frequently defended as being just part of the normal hazing that is meted out to
apprentices. It is one of the most important mechanisms that implement the glass ceiling at the level of
apprenticeship. Although it may sound trivial to say that sexual harassment has a dramatically greater
effect on women than men, it is important to understand that its use may be the difference in how well
women perform during apprenticeship, and even whether they complete the apprenticeship at all.
One effective effort that an organization can make to eliminate the glass ceiling would be for an
organization to delineate its own apprenticeship, and pay particular attention to the fact that the
apprentices are almost certainly underreporting the problem of sexual harassment. This does not men

Perseverance in Robert Frost s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
Epictetus once wrote, First say what you would be; and then do what you have to do. This aphorism of
self discovery and obligation clearly describes Robert Frost s poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy
Evening. In the course of the poem, Frost s speaker is confronted with two choices: he can either
forget his problems or he can follow through with his responsibilities and make the most of life. It is
through Frost s remarkable presentation of the speaker s thoughts that the reader may see how difficult
this decision can be. Through powerful elements, such as alliteration, rhythm, and imagery, Frost
stresses the importance of perseverence and facing one s fears and ... Show more content on

Through clever and distant alliteration, Frost displays the importance of deciding whether to remain
strong and press forward or to cowardly give up.
Despite its possibly being the more difficult path, Frost signifies the essence of perseverence through
rhythm. Throughout the poem, Frost employs a repetitive, trance like rhythm to compliment the
speaker s struggle to fight off reality and remain in his carefree world. Furthermore, Jhan Hochman
explains it as an ingenious form of interlocking rhyme: the third unrhymed line of the first three
stanzas provokes the subsequent stanza s rhymed sound (Hochman 4). Frost s use of rhythm is an
eloquent and clever element that expresses the weak and weary state of the speaker in his moment of a
life changing decision. Yet, in the last stanza frost brings his flowing lines to an abrupt halt with But I
have promises to keep (Frost 13). With this line, Frost not only shifts the meter of the poem, but also
signifies the speaker s realization that he cannot give up or quit because of the life commitments he
has made. Frost powerfully uses the rhythm in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening to emphasize
the importance of choosing the path of life and all of its responsibilities instead of the easy way out.
With imagery, Frost again stresses the significance of persevering over one s fears. The

It is for that reason that the attachment and care giving systems are at the heart of that crucial first
relationship.
Attachment theory is the key to understanding relational patterns (Kahn 1991). Mary Ainsworth(???)
states that the whole bases of a successful childhood should come from curiosity, questioning and
explorations. Infants are inevitability closely attached to their parents.
Attachment theory was developed by John Bowlby during his observation of evacuated children
during World War II and it describes the dynamics of long term relationships. Its most important tenet
is that an infant needs to develop a healthy relationship with at least one primary caregiver for social
and emotional development to occur normally and that further relationships are built on the patterns
developed in the earliest relationship (Bowlby 1988).
A healthy attachment leads a happy, secure base for a child (Holmes 1993). Positive attachment occurs
where the parents are consistently attentive to the needs of the child and provide a secure base from
which the child can confidently explore the world and it s surrounding (Bowlby 1988).
Inevitably, a worried child with problems will complain and distanced (Bowlby 1988). This pattern
reinforces itself and will continue into the next generation (Bowlby 1989).

William Wordsworth s The Prelude And Lord Byron s Biting...
The Romantic poets sought to write epics that incorporated new philosophies, ideals, and literary
trends, while also parodying, satirizing and deconstructing the epic poem itself. Rather than merely
extend the epic tradition, several Romantic poets subverted the characteristics and tropes attributed to
epic poetry, creating an interesting revision of the epic. Two seminal works of Romantic poetry that
adequately showcase the revision of epic tradition are William Wordsworth s introspective epic The
Prelude and Lord Byron s biting epic satire Don Juan. Incorporating either introspection and reflection
or irony and satire, both of these works incorporate themes from the epic tradition while also
subverting its significant aspects, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How both Wordsworth and Byron transgress and subvert these themes, particularly the heroic ideal,
not only separates Romantic epic poetry from classical epic poetry and epic tradition, but this revision
results in the creation of a new tradition.
Wordsworth is known for his introspection, often writing about feelings and emotions, mortality and
nature. Wordsworth s The Prelude is a seminal work. The poem is about the growth of the poet s mind.
It is autobiographical and deals with different periods of Wordsworth s life, such as his childhood, his
time at Cambridge and his residence in France. The poem features Wordsworth reflecting on his
experiences and feelings. The poem acts as a look into how he views himself as a poet. In The Politics
of the Epic: Wordsworth, Byron, and the Romantic Redefinition of Heroism, author Paul Cantor
contends that despite the use of epic writing, the poem itself is vastly different from the epic. It is
written in an elevated blank verse that often has a Miltonic ring, it contains epic diction and epic
similes, and it shows many other signs of Wordsworth s attempt to work within the established epic
tradition. But if one looks at the beginning of the poem, where the epic poet traditionally invokes his
Muse, one can see how radically Wordsworth differs from his predecessor (Cantor, 377). The poem,
Miltonic in its style and diction, does seem to mimic the Miltonic epic style, at least somewhat. This
does not mean, however, that

The Spinach Twins
Another difference between the two shows was how an episode was produced. To begin, The French
Chef begins with Julia welcoming her viewers as she pulls a dish out of the oven, and introduces the
dish she will be cooking on her show. After welcoming her audience an opening title appears with the
name of the show, Julia s name, and the dish she will be preparing ( Julia Child The French Chef The
Spinach Twins , 2016). Then, during the preparation of the dish Julia takes her time going at a slow,
but comfortable pace when showing how to prepare her dish. Child explains every step of the way
giving precise measurements, and does not take any short cuts. For an example in Season 2 episode 2

Symbolism In The Birthmark By Nathaniel Hawthorne
As the last crimson tint of the birthmark that sole token of human imperfection faded from her cheek,
the parting breath of the now perfect woman passed into the atmosphere, and her soul, lingering a
moment near her husband, took its heavenward flight (Hawthorne 13). In 1843, Nathaniel Hawthorne
wrote The Birthmark, a tragic and unexpected short story. In the beginning of The Birthmark, Alymer,
a man of science, marries a young beautiful woman named Georgiana. One day Alymer noticed a
mark on Georgiana s cheek, and over time his obsession with the thought of removing it scientifically
caused the death of his wife. Therefore, in the short story The Birthmark, by Nathaniel Hawthorne,
Alymer pushes the scientific boundaries too far and his experiment is unjustified.
In the nineteenth century, the religion in America, was mainly Christianity. Before Christianity, there
were the Puritans, they believed that it was necessary to be in a covenant relationship with God in
order to redeem one from one s sinful condition, that God had chosen to reveal salvation through
preaching, and that the Holy Spirit was the energizing instrument of salvation (Britannica). The
Puritans also believed in predestination, which means God knew the future of the person the day they
were born. Predestination tied in with John Calvin s theory as well. After Puritanism and Calvinism
came along Christianity, which is more than a belief in Jesus Christ. This belief gives a structured

proposed project to achieve the goal of the company. The first proposed project was based on the
traditional prototype used by the company. The project is tested and resulted with the low risk factor in
the priority for increasing the capability of the prototype for the firm. The project follows all the ethics
of the company and is based on according to the company s culture and structure. Therefore no
training program is required for the staff. The second project introduces new technique of 3D printing
to enhance the prototype with high speed. It minimizes the cost of the project. The requirement of this
project is a greater capital input. As the system is using new technology, therefore the training
program is required for the employees. The risk factor rises up with the introduction of new
prototyping system. If the new system is get successful then it will result with maximizing the profit
for the firm. As the consultant I will go through projects by exploring their assumptions, advantages

The Lymphatic System Essay
The lymphatic system is very similar, and works with and directly at the side of the cardiovascular
system. The lymphatic system has a network of vessels like the circulatory system which pump a
plasma like fluid called lymph around it s own lymph vessels, and are found in most other tissues of
the body, except the central nervous system.
Lymph is the name given to the fluid of plasma proteins that escape the circulatory system at the sites
of the capillary network and diffuse into the cells around the capillaries. To enable the body to
maintain a homeostatic fluid level and pressure, the lymph must be returned to the circulatory system.
The way this happens is for the the network of lymph vessels to pick up the fluid which has escaped,

The act of breathing alters the pressure within the thoracic cavity and as the pressure drops, this also
helps to force the lymph through the network of lymph vessels which have smooth muscle to aid the
circulation. The structure of the lymph vessels are very similar to those of the circulatory system
vessels. A protective outer layer, a muscular central core and a smooth inner lining to aid the free flow
of lymph.
Failure to circulate lymph back to the circulatory system results in swelling of the tissues, or oedema.
Examples of this can be the result of infection through tropical disease where the lymph vessels are
destroyed or blocked, or mild, temporary cases such as pregnancy where the weight of a foetus can
press against the lymph vessels and prevent the return of lymph to the subclavian ducts.
The lymphatic system works in three ways. It helps to control the balance of the body s fluids by
draining and cleansing fluid that seeps from the circulatory system during normal cardiovascular
circulation. As fluid leaves the circulatory system it enters the tissue cells and whilst the majority of it
diffuses back into the vessels of the circulatory system, the remainder enters the open ends of the
lymph vessels. The lymphatic system also works with the villi in the digestive system to help deliver
fats and absorbed nutrients in the digested food we eat, back to the circulatory system. This fluid is not

How Did Elizabeth Pinncney Influence The Economy
Elizabeth Pinckney is perhaps one of the most influential people when it comes to agriculture in the
early U.S. as she established indigo as a new cash crop, first for South Carolina, then the rest of the
South. Her discovery and the tests that she conducted in botany helped the agricultural economy in the
South grow and soon flourish. Eliza Lucas was born in Antigua in the West Indies in 1722 and was the
eldest child of Lt. Colonel George Lucas and Ann Lucas. She had 3 other siblings; her brothers,
Thomas and George, and her sister Mary. Eliza was in no way born in poverty as her family was well
set, owning 3 sugarcane plantations. She grew up on one of these plantations and lived an average life
like everyone else and was soon, along with the rest of her siblings, sent to receive schooling in
England as this was the usual thing for elite colonists to do when their children reached a certain age.

Eliza herself helped spread the growth of indigo by giving other farmers the seeds so they as well
could experience the wealth and prosperity. I couldn t agree more with historians as I believe Eliza s
knowledge, rich life, and devout belief in learning made her one of the first cornerstones for women to
build their claim on for better rights in the Unites States. I also agree with their statements that her
cultivation of the indigo plant helped the colonies survive and even prosper leading up to the
American Revolution. She was, without a doubt, one of the greatest woman of her time and the legacy
that she left behind still survives today and will for years and years to

How I Changed My Life
Throughout my life I ve gone through many obstacles, up and downs, and changes that could more
than likely affect me forever. Looking back to this time last year I can say I am not the same person I
was. I can say around this time last year I was very content with how things were in my life. I felt
things were going to happen the way they did, and that was just how it was going to be. I had a little
self motivation but it was not enough to where I could actually believe myself. There were times
where I would wonder where I would be in the next three or four years and have no clue, and then ask
myself what have I done to prepare myself for that time when it comes. Now, there is not one bit of
doubt that I will not be successful in whatever my future presents me. I feel I am way more self driven
today than what I was a year ago. I am chasing the same dream just with a total different attitude now.
Five years ago I would of been at the beginning of my Junior year of highschool I would be having the
time of my life. My Junior year I had no worries, the only thing on my mind was playing football.
Back then I m not sure if I took anything serious at that time, I just knew I had that year and the next
to try and get a football scholarship somewhere. I was getting recruited by Oklahoma State University
so I felt like I was the man, on top of having a little popularity at my school. Other than that it was all
about having fun with my friends. Today I still feel people should take

Critical Analysis Of Self Leadership And Positive Psychology
Introduction
Utilising a combined self leadership and positive psychology perspective, I will self analyse my
strengths and weaknesses through the use of questionnaires completed throughout the semester to gain
a deeper understanding of my personality traits in my chosen career. The career path I have chosen is
Human Resources (HR) and everything analysed will be in respect of that path.
A definition of self leadership is the process of influencing oneself to establish the self direction and
self motivation needed to perform (Manz, 1995). Positive Psychology is the study of the conditions
and processes that contribute to the flourishing or optimal functioning of people, groups, and
institutions (Gable Haidt, 2005; Sheldon King, 2001).
Critical analysis of Self leadership and Positive Psychology
Self leadership is very important for a number of reasons, including:
1. To enhance job effectiveness and develop personally and professionally.
2. To achieve career potential and growth such as promotions, salary increases, job satisfaction and job
choice.
3. To enhance individual and group well being such as health and happiness.
4. Becoming an emotionally intelligent professional capable of leading effectively.
By gaining a clearer understanding of self leadership the elements of positive psychology can be
incorporated. Positive psychology looks at the circumstances and processes that enable individuals,
teams and organisations to grow and develop at a high level.

Weaknesses Of Fas 80
In 1984, Financial Accounting Standards no. 80, Accounting for Futures Contracts, also known as
FAS 80 had become effective. This document included all hedge accounting practices for entities in
the United States. But FAS 80 had several faults. One of its faults was that it was bounded to exchange
traded futures and options and not to over the counter (OTC) derivatives. In 1999, FAS 80 was
replaced by Financial Accounting Standards no.133, Accounting for derivative instruments and
hedging activities. Despite, the numerous amendments, clarifications and interpretations this
document had over the years, it still remains at the core of current derivatives accounting practices.

The key distinguishing features of derivatives are: 1. Settlement in cash or equivalents a derivative
will be settled at a future date with an exchange of cash or assets that are easily convertible to cash
(such as marketable securities)
2. Underlying price and Notional amount the total value of the derivatives will be calculated by
multiplying the index by a specific number of units specified in the contract, which is known as the
notional amount (units, bushels, pounds). The value of the derivative will be based on some variable,
such as a price index, which is known as the underlying (specified price, interest rate, exchange rate).
3. No net investment at the time the derivative contract is entered into, there will be no payment by
either side in most cases. Payment occurs at the time of settlement only. In the case of options based
derivatives, the party that is acquiring the option normally pays a premium, but this is still considered
to be no net investment as long as the payment is less than the cost of acquiring the underlying.
There are several types of derivative contracts. Three of the most common types are forwards, futures

Macbeth and Gladiator
Shakespeare powerfully focuses on the negative consequences of ambition in the text Macbeth and in
the film Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott and how it can lead to one s downfall. Macbeth is shown
as the noble hero by the King after slaying the Thane of Cawdor and claiming victory in the war for
Scotland, while Ridley Scott s Gladiator portrays Maximus as the noble hero but still not comparing to
Macbeth like Commodus does in the film. Shakespeare effectively focuses on the cynical
repercussions of ambition in Macbeth and how it can lead to one s failure. Macbeth is shown as a

Macbeth is slain as a tyrant and Lady Macbeth takes her own life. Shakespeare does not give either
character the opportunity to enjoy what they had achieved, suggesting that it is more satisfying to
achieve your goals fairly than to achieve them through corruption. Ridley Scott powerfully focuses on
the negative consequences of ambition in Gladiator and how it can lead to one s downfall. Using a
similar storyline to Shakespeare s Macbeth he uses similar character structures but also giving them
many differences. Commodus ambition begins after he kills his father Emperor Marcus Aurelius
because he feels that his father did not love him enough and becomes the Emperor of Rome. Marcus
says that Commodus is not a moral man and that he cannot rule . Commodus is the Macbeth character
in Gladiator but is still not the main character. The main character in the film is Maximus who
resembles Macduff in the film. While still being shown as a great fighter, Commodus is also shown in
the film as a bit of a coward, after Maximus wins the war for Rome, Commodus shows up late to the
victory celebrations acting as if he wasn t even aware of a war even existing. Quickly after being
crowned as Emperor of Rome, Commodus becomes disliked by the Senate and the people of Rome
and seen as a pathetic leader. Commodus uses the ambition to be like his father to create barbaric
fights in the Coliseum. He ll bring them death and they will love him

  • 2. Julie Zehner Personal Response It is my distinct pleasure to recommend Julie Zehner as a candidate for your scholarship. For the past three years, Julie has been one of my students of the yearbook class at John Glenn High School, and through my interactions with her I have found Julie to be a student of very high caliber. Two of Julie s outstanding qualities are her responsibility and her work ethic. I know that, without a doubt, Julie will follow through with her assignments (and will often voluntarily go above and beyond the required for helping assemble the yearbook), and her sense of responsibility and the trust I have in her skills led me to ask her to be the yearbook editor this year. In fact, Julie is enrolled in this class as an independent study of sorts, meaning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Population Genetics Lab The Effect of Natural Selection, Heterozygote Advantage, and Genetic Drift on the Allele Frequencies Over Time Purpose: The purpose of the Population Genetics Lab was to use the Hardy Weinberg theory of genetic equilibrium and examine the relationship between evolution and allele frequencies. Additionally this lab allowed us to examine how microevolution factors such as natural selection, heterozygote advantage, and genetic drift affected the genotype and allele frequencies. Finally the population genetics lab permitted us to become masters of finding allele frequencies and establishing a better knowledge on evolution in populations and how we can calculate if that occurred using the Hardy Weinberg equations. This experiment is relevant because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Cafe Mueller Dance Analysis Dance Review The dance review consisted of watching two dance videos posted on the internet via YouTube titled, Cafe Mueller. 1978 by Pina Bausch and One Flat Thing Reproduced by William Forsythe. Each of these dance videos is unique and similar with its own story behind the dance movements and settings. The video, Café Mueller, performed in 1978 by Pina Bausch, was very interesting to watch but confusing to determine the actual story plot. In the beginning, a woman enters through a revolving door and hurries around a dark room of chairs. She appears to be confused, scurrying in many directions, almost like the quickness of life in a dark empty world. As she leaves, another woman dressed in white almost looking angel like begins to slowly walk around the room very distracted and helpless as she stumbles around the chairs. The setting of the dance and music selection resembles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning, the video provided mystery and suspense as the two dancers were crawling in a tunnel like area. Then suddenly the room was overtaken by several dancers dragging flat tables and placing them with perfection in the middle of the room. After which they returned to the back of the room and systematically became part of the dance increasing in number starting with 2, 4, and 6 and so on. There also appeared to be a division of groups and the dancers displayed fighting amongst these groups in their movements. The music of this video was powerful and spooky as to the quick action of the dancers. The performance appeared to represent a jazz, lyrical interpretative manner. The outfits also portrayed that to be contemporary and even futuristic. The movements of the dancers was very precise, quick and multiple, while occurring at the same time. The most interesting thing while watching the video was, the dancers were playing off of one another in a very timely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Communication Theories That Are Apart Of Interpersonal... There are a number of communication theories that are apart of interpersonal communication. Today I will be using the cognitive dissonance theory, social judgement theory, and the organizational theory when convincing three people to attend the sport management alumni tailgate. The three people I am looking to persuade are my uncle Dave, my younger cousin Ryan, and one of my closest friends named Wes. When deciding on who I wanted to persuade I looked for three people who vary in age as my uncle is in his 40 s, my cousin is a sophomore in high school, and my friend Wes is 21, the same age as me. I also wanted to choose three people who I am close with and will trust what I am selling to them. This paper not only examines the theories that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before I attempt to persuade him, I first wanted to ask him some questions and figure out exactly why he does not ever attend football games on any level. According to my uncle, he doesn t like the fact that a football game is an all day event. He mentioned the average cost for a family of four in 2016 to attend a game was $503. This cost includes what the average family of four spends on parking, tickets, food and drinks, souvenirs, and programs. Finally, his main reason for not wanting to attend a football game was that if he was interested in watching a football game he was much more comfortable staying home and watching it in his basement on his flat screen television with the added benefit of being able to watch re plays. After reviewing his answers, I realized that it sounded like his reasons were based off how he visualized an NFL experience due to his reasons being the cost and because it was an all day event. I assumed that he was not referring to a college football experience. Based off his responses, I wanted to create reasons that went against what he said that would make it uncomfortable and hard for him to say no. As the experience of dissonance is unpleasant, we are motivated to reduce or eliminate it, and achieve consonance (i.e. agreement) (McLeod 2008). My goal was to make his reasons irrelevant to this event. If a person is induced to do or say something which is contrary to his private opinion, there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Imperialism In India Imperialism in India had many positive effects and negative effects. India was introduced to more technology and ways of communication. It also lead to an increase of population and regular living. But, it also lead to India being dependent on Britain and lead to famine. There were many positive effects from this. Great Britain and other industrialized countries introduced more transportation methods and communication like telephones. These things improved cars, roads that can now be paved, postal networks, and trains. More advanced and high tech machines were made. This being brought to India helped industrialize new colonies. From all of the benefits I have talked about, you might think Britain was great to India, but they also caused so many problems. Wars with Britain, also against leaders by Great Britain, took money away from India. The East India Trading Company would buy materials and goods at a very low price while selling their processed goods at a very high price price. Britain also ruined India s previous economy and industries as a result of Britain making them import their goods from Britain and not allowing them buy their own goods from India. • 9. Essay on Rebellion for Change In life there are many situations where rebellion is required for change and improvement. Some are simple, like growing up and learning not to do certain things and others are more complex like when a group of people stand up for what they believe, for example, women s rights and black s rights. I believe that rebellion is healthy for any growing society. There are many things that we do not agree with, whether it is the law or our parent s instructions. By rebelling we can change our society and/or ourselves for better. One type of rebellion is when a child or teenage goes against the rules set in order to find out what is wrong with going against the rules. To illustrate, a child walks into a candy store with his mother. He is in shock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rebellion occurs in all age groups whether it is children, teenagers, adults, or even senior citizens. Most rebellion occurs in either small groups or singularly but occasionally they are bigger. What do women s rights and black s rights have in common? They are both acts of rebellion that were required to direct society towards the better light. The fights for rights that have occurred throughout American history are undeniable. People had to go through unbelievable amounts of misery to get us where we are today. Kozol feels that if a group of ... people get together and made a scene about what they feel is wrong then we would finally be forced to listen. (436) This author proves that when a group of people get together and rebel it can make people see what is truly going on, so others can seek change. It is necessary for everyone to take a stand in what they believe is truly right; just like the people before us did. Many people in history have shown incredible amounts of courage; they have stood up and fought for what they believed was right; this is the way to change. Rebellion is like a person with a favorite old pair of shoes. A person may be afraid to throw away their favorite worn out shoes, but after awhile it is time for change when the shoes no longer do their job. This is a great example of what happened when the black society was tired of being treated like objects. They protested and went against the old pair of shoes, which in this case ... • 10. Theme Of Comradeship In All Quiet On The Western Front Which in the field developed into the finest thing that arose out of the war comradeship, (Remarque 27). Throughout the war, soldiers depend on each other to be able to live another day. Through small acts of kindness, sorrow from loss, and never leaving one behind emerges the theme of comradeship, which is clearly represented in the novel, All Quiet On The Western Front. Comradeship all starts with small acts of kindness, which begins a bond friendship. For example, when Muller died he gave Paul his boots, which once belonged to Kemmerich; Paul s best friend. Before he died he handed over his pocket book to me, and bequeathed me his boots the same that he once inherited from Kemmerich, (Remarque 279). Not only was Muller giving the boots away a sign of approval, but also was a true treasure for Paul. For example, since previously the boots belonged to Kemmerich they held memories between Kemmerich and Paul. With memories came symbolism that the boots represented the last thing Paul could of have of Kemmerich. As well as keeping a secret like the whereabouts of Tjaden. He asks for Tjaden. We shrug our shoulders, (Remarque 89). Not revealing the whereabouts of Tjaden expresses that the troops will not rat out their friend even if they get in trouble for it. This scene signifies comradeship by portraying that comrades have each other s backs. Troops risk consequences for themselves by protecting their fellow comrades, for they know Tjaden would do the same in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The word Kenya brings to mind African safaris with elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, and rhinoceros roaming the Serengeti with the sun setting on the horizon, great running athletes, beautifully carved masks, and ethnic people dressed in bright costumes while engaged in chants and dance to the beat of African drums. It presents itself as picturesque, happy, peaceful, and one can almost hear the music from The Lion King. The Maasai and Samburu have remained two of the few cohesive and culturally authentic ethnic tribes of Kenya and have resisted any type of modernization (Kenya tribes 2015). These two tribes, in particular, attract tourists because of their authenticity. In Kenya, there are many different tribes, each with different beliefs and cultural values (Guide to Kenya etiquette, customs, culture, and business, 2014). In order to flourish as a nation, all of these various tribes with their own set of traditions and values are brought together, or integrated, to form a new, multicultural society (What does integration mean and why is it important, 2010). The symbolism of Kenya lies in the power of its flag. The flag represents unity among the people of the country and strength as a whole. The Kenyan flag has three horizontal stripes red, black and green separated by thin white bands. The black symbolizes the people of Kenya, the red stands for the blood shed in the fight for independence, and the green symbolizes agriculture. In the center of the flag is a red shield with black and white markings and two crossed spears, which stands for vigilance in the defense of freedom. No matter how hard nosed, ruthless, workaholic a woman may be, or how much personal success she achieves, there will always tend to be some type of obstacle to keep her from getting completely to the top of the corporate ladder. Every industry has its own version of an apprenticeship and the simple way to determine the boundary of apprenticeship is to find where in a particular company or organization, the line is that must be crossed before an individual is ?in the pack? to be considered for management or leadership. According to the ?Sorcerer?s Apprentice to Through the Looking Glass,? women in every industry and profession report that sexual harassment is most common during apprenticeship. Sexual harassment is frequently defended as being just part of the normal hazing that is meted out to apprentices. It is one of the most important mechanisms that implement the glass ceiling at the level of apprenticeship. Although it may sound trivial to say that sexual harassment has a dramatically greater effect on women than men, it is important to understand that its use may be the difference in how well women perform during apprenticeship, and even whether they complete the apprenticeship at all. One effective effort that an organization can make to eliminate the glass ceiling would be for an organization to delineate its own apprenticeship, and pay particular attention to the fact that the apprentices are almost certainly underreporting the problem of sexual harassment. Perseverance in Robert Frost s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening Epictetus once wrote, First say what you would be; and then do what you have to do. This aphorism of self discovery and obligation clearly describes Robert Frost s poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. In the course of the poem, Frost s speaker is confronted with two choices: he can either forget his problems or he can follow through with his responsibilities and make the most of life. It is through Frost s remarkable presentation of the speaker s thoughts that the reader may see how difficult this decision can be. Through powerful elements, such as alliteration, rhythm, and imagery, Frost stresses the importance of perseverence and facing one s fears and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through clever and distant alliteration, Frost displays the importance of deciding whether to remain strong and press forward or to cowardly give up. Despite its possibly being the more difficult path, Frost signifies the essence of perseverence through rhythm. Throughout the poem, Frost employs a repetitive, trance like rhythm to compliment the speaker s struggle to fight off reality and remain in his carefree world. Furthermore, Jhan Hochman explains it as an ingenious form of interlocking rhyme: the third unrhymed line of the first three stanzas provokes the subsequent stanza s rhymed sound (Hochman 4). Frost s use of rhythm is an eloquent and clever element that expresses the weak and weary state of the speaker in his moment of a life changing decision. Yet, in the last stanza frost brings his flowing lines to an abrupt halt with But I have promises to keep (Frost 13). With this line, Frost not only shifts the meter of the poem, but also signifies the speaker s realization that he cannot give up or quit because of the life commitments he has made. Frost powerfully uses the rhythm in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening to emphasize the importance of choosing the path of life and all of its responsibilities instead of the easy way out. It is for that reason that the attachment and care giving systems are at the heart of that crucial first relationship. Attachment theory is the key to understanding relational patterns (Kahn 1991). Mary Ainsworth(???) states that the whole bases of a successful childhood should come from curiosity, questioning and explorations. Infants are inevitability closely attached to their parents. Attachment theory was developed by John Bowlby during his observation of evacuated children during World War II and it describes the dynamics of long term relationships. Its most important tenet is that an infant needs to develop a healthy relationship with at least one primary caregiver for social and emotional development to occur normally and that further relationships are built on the patterns developed in the earliest relationship (Bowlby 1988). A healthy attachment leads a happy, secure base for a child (Holmes 1993). Positive attachment occurs where the parents are consistently attentive to the needs of the child and provide a secure base from which the child can confidently explore the world and it s surrounding (Bowlby 1988). Inevitably, a worried child with problems will complain and distanced (Bowlby 1988). This pattern reinforces itself and will continue into the next generation (Bowlby 1989). Mary ... • 19. William Wordsworth s The Prelude And Lord Byron s Biting... The Romantic poets sought to write epics that incorporated new philosophies, ideals, and literary trends, while also parodying, satirizing and deconstructing the epic poem itself. Rather than merely extend the epic tradition, several Romantic poets subverted the characteristics and tropes attributed to epic poetry, creating an interesting revision of the epic. Two seminal works of Romantic poetry that adequately showcase the revision of epic tradition are William Wordsworth s introspective epic The Prelude and Lord Byron s biting epic satire Don Juan. Incorporating either introspection and reflection or irony and satire, both of these works incorporate themes from the epic tradition while also subverting its significant aspects, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How both Wordsworth and Byron transgress and subvert these themes, particularly the heroic ideal, not only separates Romantic epic poetry from classical epic poetry and epic tradition, but this revision results in the creation of a new tradition. Wordsworth is known for his introspection, often writing about feelings and emotions, mortality and nature. Wordsworth s The Prelude is a seminal work. The poem is about the growth of the poet s mind. It is autobiographical and deals with different periods of Wordsworth s life, such as his childhood, his time at Cambridge and his residence in France. The poem features Wordsworth reflecting on his experiences and feelings. The poem acts as a look into how he views himself as a poet. In The Politics of the Epic: Wordsworth, Byron, and the Romantic Redefinition of Heroism, author Paul Cantor contends that despite the use of epic writing, the poem itself is vastly different from the epic. It is written in an elevated blank verse that often has a Miltonic ring, it contains epic diction and epic similes, and it shows many other signs of Wordsworth s attempt to work within the established epic tradition. But if one looks at the beginning of the poem, where the epic poet traditionally invokes his Muse, one can see how radically Wordsworth differs from his predecessor (Cantor, 377). The poem, Miltonic in its style and diction, does seem to mimic the Miltonic epic style, at least somewhat. This does not mean, however, that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1843, Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote The Birthmark, a tragic and unexpected short story. In the beginning of The Birthmark, Alymer, a man of science, marries a young beautiful woman named Georgiana. One day Alymer noticed a mark on Georgiana s cheek, and over time his obsession with the thought of removing it scientifically caused the death of his wife. Therefore, in the short story The Birthmark, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Alymer pushes the scientific boundaries too far and his experiment is unjustified. The lymphatic system has a network of vessels like the circulatory system which pump a plasma like fluid called lymph around it s own lymph vessels, and are found in most other tissues of the body, except the central nervous system. Lymph is the name given to the fluid of plasma proteins that escape the circulatory system at the sites of the capillary network and diffuse into the cells around the capillaries. To enable the body to maintain a homeostatic fluid level and pressure, the lymph must be returned to the circulatory system. The act of breathing alters the pressure within the thoracic cavity and as the pressure drops, this also helps to force the lymph through the network of lymph vessels which have smooth muscle to aid the circulation. The structure of the lymph vessels are very similar to those of the circulatory system vessels. A protective outer layer, a muscular central core and a smooth inner lining to aid the free flow of lymph. Failure to circulate lymph back to the circulatory system results in swelling of the tissues, or oedema. Examples of this can be the result of infection through tropical disease where the lymph vessels are destroyed or blocked, or mild, temporary cases such as pregnancy where the weight of a foetus can press against the lymph vessels and prevent the return of lymph to the subclavian ducts. The lymphatic system works in three ways. It helps to control the balance of the body s fluids by draining and cleansing fluid that seeps from the circulatory system during normal cardiovascular circulation. As fluid leaves the circulatory system it enters the tissue cells and whilst the majority of it diffuses back into the vessels of the circulatory system, the remainder enters the open ends of the lymph vessels. The lymphatic system also works with the villi in the digestive system to help deliver fats and absorbed nutrients in the digested food we eat, back to the circulatory system. • 25. How Did Elizabeth Pinncney Influence The Economy Elizabeth Pinckney is perhaps one of the most influential people when it comes to agriculture in the early U.S. as she established indigo as a new cash crop, first for South Carolina, then the rest of the South. Eliza Lucas was born in Antigua in the West Indies in 1722 and was the eldest child of Lt. Colonel George Lucas and Ann Lucas. She grew up on one of these plantations and lived an average life like everyone else and was soon, along with the rest of her siblings, sent to receive schooling in England as this was the usual thing for elite colonists to do when their children reached a certain age.
