In 2014, Heathrow’s Terminal 2 Retail Fit-out Sustainability Project won the ‘Most energy efficient project of the year’ at the Environment and Energy Awards. This was for Discovery Mill’s approach and the work the Heathrow team collaboratively achieved with Heathrow’s retail business partners in reducing energy usage in T2 Retail. Predicted energy savings were assessed to be 17-24% compared to existing Terminal 5 operations, with additional direct savings for Heathrow through reduced central building plant consumption as well as reduced infrastructure costs.

Using human-centred design to improve energy efficiency programsLeonardo ENERGY
Human-centred design is being used to make the NSW energy savings scheme more effective. We started with research that identified six key insights for improved scheme operation. It found that the scheme is complex and its fragmented tools and systems create unnecessary barriers to entry. We then used workshops to develop six corresponding opportunities for improved service delivery. To scale up we need streamlined manual processes, more collaboration and improved digital systems. This is especially relevant given recent announcements that the scheme is being extended to 2050.
This talk will present the research, and will place it in the context of changes announced as part of the NSW Energy Strategy. It will explore small, medium and long term changes to scheme delivery identified through the HCD process and our proposed next steps.
The NSW Energy Savings Scheme started in 2009. It has so far delivered projects that will save 27,000 gigawatt hours of energy and $5.6 billion in bill savings over their lifetimes.

This paper focuses on describing the motivation, benefits, and challenges for new photovoltaic material and module developments.

The coordination between planners and operators of coupled energy systems will allow the further integration of renewable energy sources in the electricity network by storing energy in fuel form over long periods of time using power-to-gas, the recovery and more efficient use of heat, and the decarbonization of industrial processes and transportation modes that can’t be electrified. Energy networks, such as electricity grids and natural gas pipeline networks, have traditionally been planned and operated independently. In order to enhance the integration and coordination of different energy networks, they must be planned and operated in coupled ways. Different energy networks have historically been and are still modelled by different tools. In this presentation we will discuss the need model coupled energy systems in a single framework and we will introduce encoord’s Scenario Analysis Interface for Energy Systems (SAInt), a software application to model, plan, and operate coupled energy networks.
K-Solar, a joint project of the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), will provide NYS school districts, AT NO COST and NO OBLIGATION, with the tools, and expertise to bring solar energy to their facilities and reduce their energy costs.

This webinar will present the report "Power System Strategic Flexibility Roadmap". This work outlines steps for overcoming the challenges in creating power systems with the flexibility needed to maintain system security and reliability while relying primarily on variable energy resources. The work is largely a synthesis of the many reports and studies on this subject. It seeks to summarize that body of work for a less technical audience that will need to put in place the policies, technical changes, and institutional systems necessary to make the power system of the future a reality. For this work we gathered opinions from a dedicated power system flexibility advisory panel, through two meetings, e- mail exchanges, and an online survey.

Sustainable communities are those that use resources that are available for future generations. Our children are learning this fact in grade school. But how does a community go from “I think we have renewable resources?” to “Let’s build a Renewable Energy Plant (REP)!”. This presentation will talk about how the United States Air Force (USAF) is answering that very important question, with the help of the national labs and its consulting partners. The USAF recently began a journey with a consulting firm to determine if one or more of six technologies were feasible (environmentally, financially, and operationally) at twenty-two of its bases, from Alaska to Florida, and everywhere in between.
After the Phase 1, desktop study, Phase 2 Feasibility Studies for Renewable Energy are the real test of whether a technology should be considered for a particular location. The presentation will give real world examples of the kinds of decisions made, the information that needs to be collected, as well as some excellent lessons learned to help future evaluators of REPs. From Solar, Wind, and Biomass, to Waste to Energy, a wide variety of technologies were evaluated, and stacked up against the almighty dollar to determine if the Government should/could/would develop REPs on its underutilized lands.
This presentation is a must-see for anyone who is considering developing a Renewable Energy Plant in their community, doubly so for any Federal Installation considering Solar, Wind, Biomass, or Waste to Energy Technologies.
