REQUIREMENTS: -
 Test tube
 Test tube holder
 Burner
 Benedicts Regents.
 Dropper
PRINCIPLE:-
 The test is based on the reduction of
alkaline blue cupric sulphate to yellow
or red cuprous oxide by the aldehyde
or ketone group of carbohydrates .
 in the absence of reducing substances
in urine.
 The color of the reagent remains
blue-green.
PRODECURE: -
*Take 5 ml of benedict’s regent in test
tube
*Add 0.5 ml (8 drops) of Urine
*Mix well and Boil 2-5 min.
*Cool IN TAP WATER and note the
color
OBSERVATION:- color
RESULT-
Green colour-Negative
Yellow -green precipitate-+
Greenish -Yellow precipitate-++
Yellow precipitate-+++
Orange to brick -red -++++
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:-
Presence of glucose in Urine is found
in
Diabetes mellitus
Hyperthyroidism
Hyperpituitarism
Disease of pancreas
Renal glycosuria
