2. The concept
• My idea is to create a Performance based music video. These videos
feature a solo artist or a band performing to the camera. The aim is to
focus on the artists and convey them in a particular way to the
viewing audience.
• I want to achieve a visual good looking music video that entails my
artist Roxy performing her own song in which she talks about the
struggles of a personal issue she is having. I want to be able to convey
her emotions as well as having her perform by miming her lyrics in a
nice location.
3. Genre
• The genre to my music video is essentially pop but specifically a
singer- songwriter track.
• To develop ideas for my filming, I have been watching other female
singers music videos and analysing them. A few example would be
from famous influential female artists such as Adele, Lorde, Lana Del
Ray and Lily Allen.
4. Interpretation of the lyrics
This is a strong first line that implies she is feeling lonely and the
friends she has just met are not meaningful to her, all her mind is set on
is the one she once loved and has been hurt by.

This is talking about how no matter her surroundings she is still unhappy
because her mind can’t be taken off her ex. Her desire to be in his
presence is shown.
She is talking about the pain she felt when she realized she’d been lied to,
making her heart ache. She reminises about how her relationship went so
wrong.

5. Interpretation of the lyrics

This bit is half muted in the music, making it
sound almost like a a distant memory, hence
why I might add some contrast to the video
hear as the audio is significantly different. The
lyric “what am I doing” show she is reflecting
on her actions and realizing she needs to
change
She is describing herself as a weapon, implying she can be
strong, recoginsing she doesn’t deserve bad treatment. For the
‘pain in her eyes’ I want to show a close up in her eyes reflecting
the lyrics on what you see.

6. Visual Aesthetic of my music video
• Authentic and natural. It is going to be shot in the garden of a rented
country side house in Puglia (Italy)
• I have planned to film the music video here because I’m going there
in November Half term and I know the garden is very majestic and
pretty which suits the mood of my music video.
• She is meant to be in this location as she is meant to see it as
somewhere she can try and escape from what is causing the pain in
her life (relationship)
7. Locations
• 1: Garden of house in Italy – This was the initial place where I shot my
music video.
- Shots of my artist amongst the olive trees in the garden
- Shots of my artist sitting on a chair by a table (singing the lyrics)
- Shots of my artist walking through a gate against a pretty background
8. Locations
• 2: Beach in Kenya – I found after a few months of editing and piecing
together my video there was not as much diversity in the shots and
locations that I wished for, so I planned to shoot again in another
natural setting which was amongst elements such as plants and the
sea.

- Shots of my artists against a pretty sky line such as the sun setting or
sun rising.
9. Outfits and Props
• I want my artist to only be wearing one outfit throughout the video as
I don’t want the attraction to be on her outfit changing consistently,
because I want the audience to focus on the lyrics and perhaps body
language or facial expression.
• I want her to wear a simple outfit, all in white as this has
connotations of purity and is not a distraction
• I might film some shots of my artist might smoking a cigarette as this
will give her something to do spite just miming the lyrics.
10. What conventions of the genre will I use?
• The lyrics have a deep meaning, they are about a loved one that she’d
once had – the song is very personal. (this is very sterotypical og the
singer songwriter genre)
• The music video will focus on the artist’s emotions, I will achieve this
by using close up shots of her for the audience to read her emotions
by her facial expressions.
• She will be alone in an iscolated setting, which shows the audience
she is taking time to herself to reflect her emotions (instead of being
shot in a busy location such as a nightclub)
