2. Song Choice
• The song I’ve chosen is called
‘Wasting Away’, and is sung by
pop-punk band Tonight Alive.
• The band has a female lead
singer, and although in more
recent years it is becoming
more popular, female lead
singers within bands are quite
rare.
• Therefore, I am reinforcing
this image, by having a female
artist by herself.
3. Concept
• My video is going to be a combination of both
narrative and performance based
• During my research, I’ve discovered that a
performance is vital within the pop-punk genre,
as it gives you a chance to use suitable props and
clothing to connote the genre further.
• My song choice has quite an angst vibe to it, as
the meaning behind the song is about a boyfriend
who wasn’t there when his girlfriend needed him,
thus leading the singer to write a song about it.
4. Narrative
• I am going to therefore reinforce the message of the
song through the narrative part of my video, by
including a male character to play the part of my
artist’s boyfriend.
• I am going to portray the relationship before it went
wrong, and the performance scenes will therefore
represent present day, whereby the singer is
expressing her feelings through the song itself.
• The female protagonist herself will be represented as
a strong, independent woman, therefore enforcing
the feminist view whereby she doesn’t need a man
to be happy.
5. Mise-en-scene
• Mise-en-scene will be a vital part
of my music video, as I will have
to study my genre closely in
order to adhere to the
stereotypes and conventions
associated with it
• My artist’s outfit will consist of
skinny jeans, a band t-shirt,
vans/converse, a flannel, beanie
etc.
• Her make-up will be pale and
dark around the eyes, in order to
enforce the ‘emo’ stereotype
associated with this genre,
therefore giving a clear message
to the audience.
6. Mise-en-scene
• I’ve also had to consider location, and for the
narrative part of the video I will simply need a
domestic household environment to portray
the normality.
• The performance scenes however, will be shot
in a big empty room of some sort
7. Representation
• In terms of how my artist is going to portrayed,
I’m going to adopt a feminist vibe in order to
reinforce the message behind the song.
• My artist is a white female, as this is the
stereotypical race associated with the pop-punk
genre, and therefore I have chosen to
adhere to this.
