1) The study examined the feeding behavior of guppies (Poecilia reticulata) under different conditions to determine if they are visual feeders.
2) When hand movement was accompanied by feeding in light and semi-dark conditions, over 90% of guppies moved towards the feeding location, but did not in total darkness, indicating they rely on vision to locate food.
3) Guppies also primarily moved towards a hand movement alone rather than a feeding location alone, further suggesting they are attracted most to visual cues when foraging.
4) The results demonstrate that guppies are visual feeders and their feeding behavior makes them a suitable ornamental aquarium fish that can entertain

Echinoderms are fundamentally good indicators of health and status of coralline communities in marine waters. In this study, the diversity and distribution of echinoderm species were determined in Babanlagan, Talisayan, Misamis Oriental. In total, 387 individuals were collected coming from classes Echinoidea, Holothuroidea, Asteroidea, and Ophiuroidea. The majority of individuals collected were Protoreaster nodusus, which is a good indicator of reef health while the least abundant echinoderm species was Acanthaster planci. The pattern of distribution of majority of echinoderms was a clumped distribution while the other groups followed regular/uniform distribution, which may be due to limited dispersal ability and availability and available food sources. Moderate species diversity was also observed and species were rather similar in abundance, shown by the evenness index. This suggests good marine health, even under the threat of gleaning activities, active fishing, and habitat destruction. It is recommended that follow-up studies are conducted especially regarding monitoring of echinoderm species, to further assess the health of the intertidal zone in Babanlagan, Talisayan, Misamis Oriental.

Puffer fish belonging to the family tetraodontidae are usually distributed in the shallow waters. During investigation in stations viz. Marina Park, Chidiyatapu and Burmanullah, around Andaman, five species from genus Arothron and two from Canthigaster have been recorded and were mostly found to prefer coral reefs and rock crevices, with the exception of Arothron immaculatus, which was found to be present in the open waters and it confined to sandy bottom substrate with patches of sea grasses around them. These fishes were found to be most diverse and abundant in Chidiyatapu with the Margelef’s Richness Index of 2.49, Shannon-Wiener index of 1.05 and Pielou’s evenness index of 0.96. Biometric analysis results demonstrate that they have shown an isometric growth. The individuals collected were mostly lying in the length group of 120-160 mm. Gut content analysis of A. Immaculatus reveals that the fish feed mainly on molluscs and sea urchin and the other food items were shrimps, crabs, sponges, micro algae, foraminiferans etc. gastro-somatic index, hepato-somatic index and gonado-somatic indices were also calculated to throw light upon the feeding behavior and reproductive maturity of the fishes. Most of the individuals were found to be in the developing stage of maturity.

The survey was undertaken during the period from February 2016 to july 2016 in the region of Vettathukadavu, in Kayamkulam backwater, Kerala. The major objective of this study was to find out the biodiversity status of fishes in the Vettathukadavu region of Kayamkulam backwater, Kerala. Conservation status of fishes was assessed by IUCN Conservation status. The Survey of the studied stretch of backwater were resulted in recording of 25 fish species belonging to 6 orders and 15 familes. Of the 25 species reported during the study, 15 are least concern, 1 is critically endangered, 1 is vulnerable, 6 species are not evaluated and 2 species are not reported in IUCN Red.

Distribution of ground dwelling spider genera among berseem crop at Okara dis...Innspub Net
The present study was designed to record the distribution of ground dwelling spider genera among berseem crop at Okara district. Sampling was made from Trifolium crop on fortnight basis through pitfall traps. Equal number of traps were placed in three rows e.g. along the boundary, middle of the field and centre of the field. Each trap was filled with mixture solution of alcohol and glycerin (70:30%) along with few drops of kerosene oil. After 5 days interval sample traps was collected and spider specimens were washed with distilled water and permanently stored in labeled glass vials, and brought into the Pest Control Laboratory, Departmentof Zoology, Wildlife and Fisheries, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Thereafter, each spider specimen was identified according to the taxonomic material and internet source. Identified data was analyzed statistically to quantify their spatial distribution. Overall maximum spatial distribution of spider population was documented in middle transect than boundary and centre of the berseem crop. It was also observed that temperature, humidity, vegetation and prey availability were the major factors that effecting the spider population. Population variations were recorded during the months of February, March and April in 2015, due to rise of temperature, decrease of humidity and availability of prey. It was concluded that despite to cosmopolitan nature, spiders have some correlation with suitable local conditions or habitat. More over, spiders are cost effective, functionally significant and play a key role in regulating decomposer population. Attempts were made to develop a technique to rear the phyllosoma larvae of Panulirus homarus. The biological characters like fecundity, hatching percentage, larval morphological changes, feed inputs and moulting frequency till the fourth moult were studied. Morphometric and meristic characters of the larvae were also studied till the 42ndday. The larval output was directly proportional to the size of the gravid brood stock. Relationship between the duration of culture X and length of the larvae Y were shown by the relationships Y intercept = 0.5780 ± 0.1074 and X intercept = 0.7283 r2 = 0.8519 . India is a high speed population growing country and present population of India is about 127 crores. Among them a huge number of our children have been suffering from mal-nutritional diseases. They need protein feed and molluscs meat especially cephalopods meat is a good source of protein. India harvested 1.73 lakh tones of cephalopods, 0.04 lakh tones of bivalves and 0.02 tones of gastropods from Indian marine resources like Arabian sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean in the year 2013-2014. The people of southern states of India consume molluscs meat in huge quantity as their everyday protein resource food. The local poor people at Digha eat occasionally only cephalopods meat. From our study for about last 4 years we get 12 bivalves species belonging to 5 orders, 6 families and 8 genera out of 54 available bivalves species, 2 gastropods species belonging to 2 orders, 2 families and 2 genera out of 35 available gastropods species and 4 cephalopods species belonging to 3 orders, 3 families and 4 genera out of 4 available cephalopods species are edible. Freshwater Molluscs distribution and diversity status of Nakana Lake, Dhule, were studied during June 2013 to May 2014. The samples were collected at every fortnight from two sites. A total of 13 species were reported, out of which 10 species were Gastropods and three species were Pelecypods; those belonged to four orders, 10 families and 12 genera. The abundance of molluscs was also studied. The average number of animals were indicated per season: i.e. monsoon, winter and summer. Maximum species were collected in the summer season at both the sites. Molluscan diversity were calculated by the various diversity indices such as Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H), Simpson’s Dominance index (D), Simpson’s index of diversity (I-D), Simpson’s Evenness(E) and Pielou’s Evenness index (J).

Diversity of Butterflies (Rhopalocera) inBulusukan (San Idelfonso, Bulacan, P...INFOGAIN PUBLICATION
There are 1,615 species and sub species of butterflies in the entire Philippines (C.R Baltazar, 1991), LUBG San Fernando La Union has 104 species recorded they belong to 6 families and 66 genera(Nacua et al2015).In Manila,Nacua (2016) 22 species of butterflies belong to 6 families 17 genera were also recorded. Thisstudyseeks to determine the species composition, conservation status, richness and abundance of butterflies in the town of Bulusukan, a community in San Ildefonso, Bulacan province (Luzon Island, Philippines). The opportunistic transect sampling method was used to collect butterflies. Collection was done at daytime on August 6, 2016 from 8 am up to 5 pm in areas with GPS of 15°04'26.0652"northand 121°02'39.9588"east near the vicinity of Bulusukan Cave.Species richness and butterfly diversity in all areas sampled was calculated. A dendogram showing 75% species abundance was accounted and comes mostly from the secondary dipterocarp forest. Graphium antiphates Cramer, Ypthima semperaand Ptychandra lorquini-lorquini were found to be endemic to Bulusukan. Butterflies were observed to be attracted to shady forest areas consisting of mosses clinging on metamorphic rocks along a river and includes species from the families Nymphalidae and Papilionidae. This study was able to identify 21 butterfly species with 19 genera 2 of them are rare and 2 endemic species of butterflies in Bulusukan. It is recommended to continue further study for wet and dry season.

Based on the importance and crucial role in biosphere, studying fish is a debatable issue. Among animal research its study is as prominent as bright day light. Biodiversity refers to the number of different species living in an ecosystem. The current study was carried out from May 2016 to August 2016 to find out Ichthyofauna of Garhi Usmani Khel Stream and Meherdy Stream at Dargai District Malakand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan. The fish specimens were then identified by studying various morphometric measurements and meristic counts. This study included eight species; Barilius pakistanicus, Puntius chola, Channa punctata, Channa gachua, Acanthocobitis botia, Crossocheilus diplocheilus, Mastacembelus armatus and Ompok pabda belonging to four orders (Cypriniformes, Channiformes, Mastacembeliformes, Siluriformes) and five Families (Cyprinidae, Channidae, Nemacheilidaeidae, Mastacembelidae, Siluridae). Cyprinidae was the most dominant family comprised of three species; Barilius pakistanicus, Puntius chola and Crossocheilus diplocheilus. The family Channidae included two species i.e. Channa punctate and Channa gachua while Nemacheilidaeidae, Mastacembelidae and Siluridae were represented by only one species each, Acanthocobitis botia, Mastacembelus armatus and Ompok pabda respectively. It was concluded that Ompok pabda is strictly endangered in River Swat and especially in Garhi Usmani Khel Stream and Meherdy Stream. It is strongly recommended to conserve this species (Ompok pabda).

After 5 days interval sample traps was collected and spider specimens were washed with distilled water and permanently stored in labeled glass vials, and brought into the Pest Control Laboratory, Department of Zoology, Wildlife and Fisheries, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Thereafter, each spider specimen was identified according to the taxonomic material and internet source. Identified data was analyzed statistically to quantify their spatial distribution. Maximum spatial distribution of spider population was documented in middle transect than boundary and centre of the mustard crop. It was also observed that temperature, humidity and prey availability were the major factors that effecting the spider population. Population variations were recorded during the months of February, March and April in 2015, due to rise of temperature, decrease of humidity and availability of prey. Conclusively, spiders have some correlation with suitable local conditions or habitat. Diversity of Butterflies (Rhopalocera) inBulusukan (San Idelfonso, Bulacan, P...INFOGAIN PUBLICATION
There are 1,615 species and sub species of butterflies in the entire Philippines (C.R Baltazar, 1991), LUBG San Fernando La Union has 104 species recorded they belong to 6 families and 66 genera(Nacua et al2015).In Manila,Nacua (2016) 22 species of butterflies belong to 6 families 17 genera were also recorded. Thisstudyseeks to determine the species composition, conservation status, richness and abundance of butterflies in the town of Bulusukan, a community in San Ildefonso, Bulacan province (Luzon Island, Philippines). The opportunistic transect sampling method was used to collect butterflies. Collection was done at daytime on August 6, 2016 from 8 am up to 5 pm in areas with GPS of 15°04'26.0652"northand 121°02'39.9588"east near the vicinity of Bulusukan Cave.Species richness and butterfly diversity in all areas sampled was calculated. A dendogram showing 75% species abundance was accounted and comes mostly from the secondary dipterocarp forest. Graphium antiphates Cramer, Ypthima semperaand Ptychandra lorquini-lorquini were found to be endemic to Bulusukan. Butterflies were observed to be attracted to shady forest areas consisting of mosses clinging on metamorphic rocks along a river and includes species from the families Nymphalidae and Papilionidae. This study was able to identify 21 butterfly species with 19 genera 2 of them are rare and 2 endemic species of butterflies in Bulusukan. It is recommended to continue further study for wet and dry season.

Based on the importance and crucial role in biosphere, studying fish is a debatable issue. Among animal research its study is as prominent as bright day light. Biodiversity refers to the number of different species living in an ecosystem. The current study was carried out from May 2016 to August 2016 to find out Ichthyofauna of Garhi Usmani Khel Stream and Meherdy Stream at Dargai District Malakand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan. The fish specimens were then identified by studying various morphometric measurements and meristic counts. This study included eight species; Barilius pakistanicus, Puntius chola, Channa punctata, Channa gachua, Acanthocobitis botia, Crossocheilus diplocheilus, Mastacembelus armatus and Ompok pabda belonging to four orders (Cypriniformes, Channiformes, Mastacembeliformes, Siluriformes) and five Families (Cyprinidae, Channidae, Nemacheilidaeidae, Mastacembelidae, Siluridae). Cyprinidae was the most dominant family comprised of three species; Barilius pakistanicus, Puntius chola and Crossocheilus diplocheilus. The family Channidae included two species i.e. Channa punctate and Channa gachua while Nemacheilidaeidae, Mastacembelidae and Siluridae were represented by only one species each, Acanthocobitis botia, Mastacembelus armatus and Ompok pabda respectively. It was concluded that Ompok pabda is strictly endangered in River Swat and especially in Garhi Usmani Khel Stream and Meherdy Stream. It is strongly recommended to conserve this species (Ompok pabda).

Induced breeding of the striped snakehead Murrel, C hanna striatus (Bloch, 1793) was attempted during October to December 2009 (North - east monsoon). The breeding attempt was made using natural hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG). Two trials using fibre tanks of different capacity in triplicates were made to observe the effects of different doses of HCG on induced spawning of C. striatus . The fishes which received a dosage of 6000 IU/kg body weight gave satisfactory results. The ovulation was recorded after 19 -
29 h of the injection. The fertilization rate was observed as 40 80%. Hatching occurred within
22 - 36 hours after fertilization at water temperature of 27 - 29 ° C. The percentage of hatching rate
varied from 55 - 80%. The overall breeding performance of
C. striatus was found to be satisfactory for upscaling of murrel seed production in stakeholders farms.

Effects of Different Kinds of Fertilizers on Growth and Production of Fishes ...Premier Publishers
The experiment was conducted to determine the effects of different kinds of fertilizers on growth and production of fishes (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, Oreochromis niloticus and Cirrhinus cirrhosus) in polyculture for four months in six earthen ponds which were situated at the south-east corner of the Faculty of Fisheries Buildings, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. The experiment was carried out under three treatments and each pond was stocked with a total of 60 fingerlings at the rate 60/decimal. Pond nos. 2, 4 were under treatment-I where use of cowdung 10 kg/dec./2 weeks, pond nos. 1, 3 were under the treatment-II where use of TSP of 90g/dec./two weeks and pond nos. 5, 6 were under the treatment-III where use of urea of 60g/dec./two weeks. The average initial length and weight of the fingerlings of silver carp, tilapia and mrigal were 10.52, 10.89 and 14.40cm respectively and 17.92, 30.00 and 46.67g respectively. During the experimental period the ranges of water temperature (14.50 to 24.70 °C), transparency (22.35 to 33.10 cm), dissolved oxygen (6.50 to 8.20 mg/L), pH (6.40 to 8.20), total alkalinity (145.00 to 210.00 mg/L), Free CO2 (1.40 to 3.10 mg/L), phosphate-phosphorus (1.50 to 2.30 mg/L), and nitrate-nitrogen (2.70 to 4.00 mg/L) were found within the productive limit and more or less similar in all the ponds under the treatments-I,II, and III. There were 24 genera of phytoplankton under five major groups and 9 genera of zooplankton under three major groups in the experimental ponds. The calculated gross and net productions, under treatment-I were 1.71 ton/ha/yr and 0.43 ton/ha/yr respectively, under treatment-II were 2.01 ton/ha/yr and 0.72 ton/ha/yr. respectively and under treatment-III were 1.69 ton/ha/yr and 0.41 ton/ha/yr respectively. From the present experiment on fish culture it might be concluded that as single fertilizer TSP is the best fertilizer to be used in fish culture ponds because in treatment-II, net and gross productions were highest than those in treatments I and III.
Present status of Indian major carp broodstock management at the hatcheries i...AbdullaAlAsif1
The present study was carried out to access on the present status of Indian major carp broodstock management, suggests some guidelines to control negative selection and inbreeding in hatchery stocks in Jessore, Bangladesh. The survey was conducted in 20 hatcheries at Chacrha in Jessore from November, 2013 to October, 2014. Information showed that brood fish selection for induced breeding was done on the basis of their experience. The sources of brood fish were mainly own and other sources were Halda River, Padma River, Govt. brood bank, world fish center and BFRI. Feed ingredients used as rice bran (39%), mustard oil cake (29%), vitamin and mineral premix (3%), wheat flour (7%), fish meal (13%) and soyabean flour (5%). Nutritional compositions of feed were protein (20-30%), lipid (10-12%), carbohydrate (25-35%) and fat (7-11%). Fertilizer such as TSP (0.484 kg/decimal), urea (0.242 kg/decimal), cowdung (6.5 kg/decimal), poultry dropping (3 kg/decimal) and MP (0.181 kg/decimal) were used. Hatching rate was 85-91% and deformed hatchlings were 5-7% in the hatcheries. Both positive (63%) and negative (37%) selection were identified. Anchor worm (Lernaeasis) disease was the most harmful problem of which solution was not given by them. Hatcheries owners assumed that if they would use wild brood fish, inbreeding could be removed and thus survival and growth of fry could be increased.

Morphological adaptation of P. canaliculata shell to the different ecosystems...Open Access Research Paper
Different physiological, morphological, and behavioral adaptations of Pomacea canaliculata aided them in their survival to different adverse environmental conditions. Furthermore, the said adaptations can be very vital in the control and management strategies that can be employed in the areas where their population posed a threat to food security. The study employed an explorative-investigative study design for the gathering of data. Eight hundred seventy-three Golden Apple Snails from different freshwater ecosystems, namely stream, irrigational canal, and rice field were collected, cleaned, and examined. To elucidate the different adaptations of the GAS to the various ecosystems, their shell characteristics were observed, recorded, and examined. Consequently, this study found out that those shells from snails sampled in streams had bigger length, width, width of the aperture, a higher number of bands, and whorls when compared to those shells from irrigational canals and rice fields. Moreover, there was a negative correlation between pH and dissolved oxygen to the height, width, and width of the aperture. There was also a significant correlation between the temperature and width, weight, and the number of bands. It was concluded that to control and manage the population of the GAS the area should have less palatable food sources and less anthropogenic activities so that environmental parameters like high pH, lower temperature, and higher dissolved oxygen can be achieved.
Aquatic weeds diversity of Fatki River in Magura district, BangladeshAbdullaAlAsif1
The study was conducted at Fatki River under Magura district to learn the aquatic weeds diversity and abundance. This paper focused on species variation, number of species, water quality parameter and identification of aquatic weeds. It was assessed by collecting samples from Chukinogor Ghat, Kechuadubi and Arpara bazar during May to August, 2016. Aquatic weeds were abundant in rainy season and the semi-aquatic weeds were available almost all the year round. According to this study, total 22 species belonging to 12 orders, 16 families and 21 genuses were found. Again, 46%, 28%, 26% of total aquatic weeds percentages identified from the Chukinogor Ghat, Kechuadubi and Arpara bazar respectively. During this study period, nine species of family Pontederiaceae, Convolvulaceae, Menyanthaceae, Asteraceae, Poaceae, Araceae, Amaranthaceae, Polygonaceae were common in Chukinogor Ghat, Kechuadubi and Arpara bazar. Noticeable species-Lemna minor, Marsilea quadrifolia, Ludwigia palustris, Aeschynomene aspera, Najas graminea, Hydrilla verticillata, Najas guadalupensis, Utricularia inflate were only found in Chukinogor Ghat. This species are easily adapted in large areas. On the other hands, two species were common in Chukinogor Ghat, Kechuadubi-Pistia stratiotes and Equisetum hyemale. Prominent species of Arpara bazar were Cyperus rotundus and Xanthium indicum. Total 11 species of aquatic weeds were mainly recognized from these Kechuadubi, while greatest number was recorded of 20 species from Chukinogor Ghat and 12 species were have its place to Arpara bazar. Management technique and water quality parameters were also studied during study period and the temperature was recorded 29.0-30.00 ºC in Chukinogor Ghat, same as 28.0-320 ºC in Kechuadubi. Furthermore, 29.0-31.00 ºC temperature was found in Arpara bazar. DO levels were stable at ranged from7.0-7.5 ppm in Chukinogor Ghat and 4.7-5.3 ppm was recorded in two experimental Kechuadubi 4.5-5.0 in Arpara bazar respectively. This difference may arise due to the using of aerator in the Chukinogor Ghat same as decomposition, intensity of light in Kechuadubi and Arpara bazar. Transparency was 28-32cm in Chukinogor Ghat, 36-44cm in Kechuadubi, and 38-42 cm in Arpara bazar.

specifically in Annang part of the state. D. dumetorum belongs to the family of Dioscoreaceae and is commonly known
as bitter yam. This study was conducted to determine the bioactive components and evaluate the acutetoxicity of the
aqueous extract of the D. dumetorum on C. aariepinus fingerlings and anuran tadpoles. The 96hLC50 values of D.
dumetorum tuber aqueous extracts were determined in the laboratory under static bioassay conditions against C.
aariepinus fingerlings and anuran tadpoles. Range finding bioassays were conducted to get the range of concentrations
for the definitive bioassays. The range of concentrations of test media for C. aariepinus fingerlngs was 0.6-5mgl-1 while
that of anuran tadpoles was 1.6-3.8mgl-1
. The median lethal concentrations (LC50) were determined using probit
analysis. The 96hLC50 value of the test plant against exposed fingerlings was 2.153mgl-1 with lower and upper
confidence limits of 1.869 and 2.485mgl-1
respectively while that of tadpoles was 2.538mgl-1 with lower and upper
confidence limits of 2.295 and 2.771 mgl1
respectively. Unpaired t-test showed that there was no significant difference
(p>0.05) between the toxicity of the test plant to C. aariepinus fingerlings and that of anuran tadpoles. The mean water
quality parameters were within the optimal range requirement for the test species. The study indicated that D.
dumetorumexerted piscicidal property on C. aariepinus fingerlings and anuran tadpoles. The indiscriminate use of this
plant to catch fish by local fishermen should be discouraged.

Evaluation of the Biochemical Composition of Four Marine Algae and Its Nutrit...IOSR Journals
Microalgae are utilized in aquaculture as a live feed for the crustaceans, ablone, zooplanktons, etc. The present study was aimed to examine the nutritional status of Artemia sp. nauplii enriched with four different algal sources namely Chaetoceros calcitrans, Skeletonema coastaum, Duniella salina & D. bardawil and also the amount of beta-carotene assimilated when enriched with the two green algae. Artemia sp. nauplii enriched with D. salina showed high amounts of protein and carbohydrate, whereas Artemia sp. fed with Chaetoceros calcitrans showed high amounts of lipid. The protein profile of Artemia sp. enriched with different algal sources did not show prominent differences in the polypeptide bands. However, high amount of beta-carotene was assimilated in Artemia sp. nauplii when enriched with D. salina. Hence this study showed that the microalgae D. salina can be used as a potential feed to improve the nutritional status of Artemia sp. nauplii.
ABSTRACT- Order siluriformes, Bagridae family of four number of catfish species provides information on the diets of
Mystus bleekeri, Mystus cavasius, Mystus tengara, Mystus vittatus in Lower Manair reservoir. The total of 1021 fish
species examined and their stomach content was analyzed. The frequency of occurrence and numerical methods were
employed in this study. In the numerical analysis, crustaceans and insect parts (85.91%) constituted the most important
diet of Mystus bleekeri followed by fish remains (78.40%), plant materials (69.01%), algae/ protozoan (64.79%), molluscs
(63.38%), detritus (56.81%) and sand grains (33.80%). The number of food items were enumerated for the crustaceans
and insect parts in Mystus bleekeri have been contained the maximum percentage (34.84%) of the content under
frequency of occurrence method followed by algae and protozoan with 20.76%, Molluscs with 18.37%, plant materials
with 15.60% and sand grains with 10.44%. The result of the analysis showed that Mystus cavasius, Mystus tengara,
Mystus vittatus fed on similar food items. These were mainly crustaceans, molluscans, fish remains and macrophytes.
Other food items include algae, detritus, sand grains. These four species are omnivorous and occupy the same ecological
niche.

Culex quinquefasciatus

at the first instar, second instar, third instar, fourth instar, pupae and

). Soxhlet apparatus was
used to extract each pulverized plant part using petroleum ether solvent. Plant
extract from the petroleum ether solvent was used to test their effects on the
developmental stages of each mosquito species. The result showed that the higher
the developmental stages, the lower the percentage of mortality. It was also
observed that as the time and concentration increases, the percentage of mortality
also increases. Generally, the result showed that

is more
susceptible in the extracts used followed by

Biosorption of metals by Solitary Ascidian, Phallusia Nigra in Vizhinjam Ba...researchanimalsciences
Biosorption of heavy metals by ascidians has been recognized as a potential
alternative to existing technique for recovery of heavy metals from waste stream. The
solitary ascidian,
Phallusia nigra,
is a common and large black ascidian and occurs
throughout the year in Vizhinjam Bay. Hence this study has been focused on the
biosorption of metals in the test and mantle body of
P. nigra
from ecologically
significant station, Vizhinjam Bay. Monthly samplings of water and specimens of
P. nigra were done during the period from September 2010 to August 2011 and
subjected to the analysis of metals. The concentration of metals in water were found
in the following order Cd>Pb>V>Hg. Mean concentrations of metals were high during
monsoon season and low during premonsoon season.
Absorption of metals by
P. nigra
revealed that both test and mantle body
accumulated a diverse range of trace metals. The present results showed that the
content of metals in the test was usually less than that of the mantle body. High
concentration of these metals was found to be during monsoon season whereas low
concentration was during premonsoon season.
The bioaccumulation factors were in the order of V>Pb>Cd> Hg for the test
and mantle body of the study animal. Application of one
–
way ANOVA for the
concentration of these metals between test and mantle body showed significant
differences. Metal concentrations recorded in this ascidian could effectively be used
as good reference material for monitoring metal contamination in Indian sea waters.

butterflies are powerful fliers (Nawabs and Rajahs) or migrants (Painted lady,
Milkweed butterflies) while Bush browns (
Mycalesis visala, Melanitis leda

Elymnias hypermnestra)
and Rings (
Ypthima baldus, Ypthima chenui

Ypthima philomela
) are weak fliers. Three study sites i.e., Lankamalai of Kadapa
district, Talakona and Tirumala Hills of Chittoor district of Eastern Ghats of Southern
Andhra Pradesh were chosen.
Captive breeding method has been adopted for
restocking the population.
Nearly 26 Nymphalidae species were identified from
6 sub families. Species diversity
was calculated by using Simpson’s diversity indices
along with the seasonality and population index, richness and evenness of the species
were also discussed.

Conclusion:
The results suggested that leaf and seed extract of
Lantana camera

under the room temperature in the laboratory. A relationship was observed between the plant extract dose and the percentage of egg hatchability,
larval and pupal mortality. Dosage value as expressed in % was 0.01 to 4.0 for
Aedes aegypti . The percentage of egg hatchability, larval and pupal mortality were
found to increase with the dosage indicating a relationship between the two. Based
on the probit analysis the LC 50
(mg/l) value of egg (31), I instar (59), II instar (231),
III instar (606), IV instar (1578) and pupa (2637) were observed.
A Pilot Study on Effect of Copper and Cadmium Toxicity in Tilapia Mossambicus researchanimalsciences
Cu and Cd is trace element for most organisms including fish, but above certain limit Cu and Cd will be toxic. The present study was conducted to evaluate the
toxic effect of Cu and Cd on Tilapia mossambicus
via estimating the acute 96h median lethal concentration (LC 50 ) value. A total 120 number of
Tilapia mossambicus fingerlings were subjected to 12 numbers 20 L aquaria. Fish were exposed to 0.0, 2.0,
4.0, 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0mg Cu and Cd/L for 4 days. Each dose was represented by two aquaria. Fish was daily observed and dead fish were removed immediately. The data obtained were evaluated using Behrens - Karber’s Method. The 96 h LC 50 value of Cu for Tilapia mossambicus was calculated to be 6.0mg Cu/L with Behrens - Karber’s Method. The 96 h LC
50 value of Cd for Tilapia mossambicus was calculated to be 4.8mg Cd/L with Behrens - Karber’s Method. The behavioral changs of Tilapia mossambicus
were primarily observed. It could be concluded that Tilapia mossambicus species slightly sensitive to Cu and Cd when compare both metal
cadmium is more toxic than copper for the fish species.

exposed to hot water at 38° C, 39° C, 40° C & 41° C for durations of 2min and four min.
One batch of the eggs without heat shock treatment was used as control. After
treatments, eggs were immediately transferred to incubation troughs. Tetraploidy
was ascertained by karyotyping as well as RBC nuclear micro measurements.Heat
shock of 41°C for four min, imparted to eggs for 20 min after fertilization induced a
maximum of 60± 2% tetraploidy and maximum hatchability of 10± 1.5%. A large
proportion of the heat shocked embryos displayed morphological abnormalities such
as short and curved tail, destroyed yolksac, deformed vertebral column and
malformed cephalic region. A maximum of 60± 2% tetraploids (4n = 156) were
obtained when the fertilized eggs (20 min old) were heat shocked at 41° C for four
min duration. The tetraploid red blood cells (RBCs) nucleus volume was 2.1 times
greater than those of the diploid RBC nucleus.Given that koicarp are such a useful
model for other areas of research, perhaps further studies on the induction of
tetraploidy in this species will lead to a better understanding of polyploidy induction
and the establishment of tetraploid lines of koicarp and other species as well.

The culture of maintenance ornamental fish among Iranian people is developing every day. One of the most important factors in selection aquarium fish is behavior of feeding. The feeding behavior of Guppy is poorly documented. In this experiment we study feeding behavior in P. reticulata by six treatments. Six aquariums with the same dimension were used and two points A & B with the maximum distance from each other were selected in each aquarium. In aquarium No.1 hand move with feeding in point A, in aquarium No.2 hand move without feeding in point A, in aquarium No.3 hand moves in point A and feeding in point B, in aquarium No.4 feeding without hand move in point B, in aquarium No.5 in semi dark conditions hand move with feeding in point A and finally in aquarium No.6 in darkness conditions hand move with feeding in point A were done. In aquarium No.1, 94% of fish moved to point A and in aquarium No.2 it was about 92%. In aquarium No.3, 95.5% of fish moved to point A and in Aquarium No.4, 74.5% of fish moved to point B. In aquarium No 5 and 6, 96% and 99.5% of fish moved and didn’t move to point A, respectively. Our results showed that this species is a visual feeder and a good aquarium fish for their feeding behavior.

Earliest Galaxies in the JADES Origins Field: Luminosity Function and Cosmic ...Sérgio Sacani
We characterize the earliest galaxy population in the JADES Origins Field (JOF), the deepest
imaging field observed with JWST. We make use of the ancillary Hubble optical images (5 filters
spanning 0.4−0.9µm) and novel JWST images with 14 filters spanning 0.8−5µm, including 7 mediumband filters, and reaching total exposure times of up to 46 hours per filter. We combine all our data
at > 2.3µm to construct an ultradeep image, reaching as deep as ≈ 31.4 AB mag in the stack and
30.3-31.0 AB mag (5σ, r = 0.1” circular aperture) in individual filters. We measure photometric
redshifts and use robust selection criteria to identify a sample of eight galaxy candidates at redshifts
z = 11.5 − 15. These objects show compact half-light radii of R1/2 ∼ 50 − 200pc, stellar masses of
M⋆ ∼ 107−108M⊙, and star-formation rates of SFR ∼ 0.1−1 M⊙ yr−1
. Our search finds no candidates
at 15 < z < 20, placing upper limits at these redshifts. We develop a forward modeling approach to
infer the properties of the evolving luminosity function without binning in redshift or luminosity that
marginalizes over the photometric redshift uncertainty of our candidate galaxies and incorporates the
impact of non-detections. We find a z = 12 luminosity function in good agreement with prior results,
and that the luminosity function normalization and UV luminosity density decline by a factor of ∼ 2.5
from z = 12 to z = 14. We discuss the possible implications of our results in the context of theoretical
models for evolution of the dark matter halo mass function.
Richard's entangled aventures in wonderlandRichard Gill
Since the loophole-free Bell experiments of 2020 and the Nobel prizes in physics of 2022, critics of Bell's work have retreated to the fortress of super-determinism. Now, super-determinism is a derogatory word - it just means "determinism". Palmer, Hance and Hossenfelder argue that quantum mechanics and determinism are not incompatible, using a sophisticated mathematical construction based on a subtle thinning of allowed states and measurements in quantum mechanics, such that what is left appears to make Bell's argument fail, without altering the empirical predictions of quantum mechanics. I think however that it is a smoke screen, and the slogan "lost in math" comes to my mind. I will discuss some other recent disproofs of Bell's theorem using the language of causality based on causal graphs. Causal thinking is also central to law and justice. I will mention surprising connections to my work on serial killer nurse cases, in particular the Dutch case of Lucia de Berk and the current UK case of Lucy Letby.

Intravital microscopy (IVM) is a powerful tool utilized to study cellular behavior over time and space in vivo. Much of our understanding of cell biology has been accomplished using various in vitro and ex vivo methods; however, these studies do not necessarily reflect the natural dynamics of biological processes. Unlike traditional cell culture or fixed tissue imaging, IVM allows for the ultra-fast high-resolution imaging of cellular processes over time and space and were studied in its natural environment. Real-time visualization of biological processes in the context of an intact organism helps maintain physiological relevance and provide insights into the progression of disease, response to treatments or developmental processes.
In this webinar we give an overview of advanced applications of the IVM system in preclinical research. IVIM technology is a provider of all-in-one intravital microscopy systems and solutions optimized for in vivo imaging of live animal models at sub-micron resolution. The system’s unique features and user-friendly software enables researchers to probe fast dynamic biological processes such as immune cell tracking, cell-cell interaction as well as vascularization and tumor metastasis with exceptional detail. Multi-source connectivity as the driver of solar wind variability in the heli...Sérgio Sacani
The ambient solar wind that flls the heliosphere originates from multiple
sources in the solar corona and is highly structured. It is often described
as high-speed, relatively homogeneous, plasma streams from coronal
holes and slow-speed, highly variable, streams whose source regions are
under debate. A key goal of ESA/NASA’s Solar Orbiter mission is to identify
solar wind sources and understand what drives the complexity seen in the
heliosphere. By combining magnetic feld modelling and spectroscopic
techniques with high-resolution observations and measurements, we show
that the solar wind variability detected in situ by Solar Orbiter in March
2022 is driven by spatio-temporal changes in the magnetic connectivity to
multiple sources in the solar atmosphere. The magnetic feld footpoints
connected to the spacecraft moved from the boundaries of a coronal hole
to one active region (12961) and then across to another region (12957). This
is refected in the in situ measurements, which show the transition from fast
to highly Alfvénic then to slow solar wind that is disrupted by the arrival of
a coronal mass ejection. Our results describe solar wind variability at 0.5 au
but are applicable to near-Earth observatories.

Introduction:
RNA interference (RNAi) or Post-Transcriptional Gene Silencing (PTGS) is an important biological process for modulating eukaryotic gene expression.
It is highly conserved process of posttranscriptional gene silencing by which double stranded RNA (dsRNA) causes sequence-specific degradation of mRNA sequences.

2. INTRODUCTION
The annual value of the world’s wholesale
trade in ornamental fish (including commodities)
was estimated 1 billion dollars in 2001 (Olivier,
2001). The Free- On-Board export value of
freshwater and saltwater fish was estimated 264
million US dollars in 2005, an increase of 50% with
respect to 2001 (FAO, 2007). Ornamental fish
farming is a relatively new branch of the
agricultural industry in Iran. The culture of
maintenance ornamental fish among Iranian people
is developing every day.
Fish visual census is the identification and
counting of fish observed within a defined area.
Vision is the dominant sense of many fishes. This
can often be predicted by the large size of the eyes
of species in which vision dominates
(Schwassmann & Kruger, 1968). Indirect evidence
for the importance of visual signaling in fishes is
their conspicuous color or marking patterns, which
are often species or sex specific and subject to
change (William, 1999). Among vertebrates, fishes
have a remarkable ability for color change,
surpassing even the chameleon in this regard
(Young, 1962). Male Guppies are brightly coloured
and vary greatly in their colour patterns, whereas
females do not have conspicuous colour patterns.
Guppies are small poeciliid fishes of
northeastern South America (Endler, J. A., 1987).

females do not have conspicuous colour patterns.
Their biology, ecology, behaviour and genetics
have been reviewed previously (Endler 1978,
1983). Briefly, guppies live in tropical forests, in
clear streams with clean gravel or sand bottoms,
and occasional patches of leaf litter.
The larvivorous fish, Poecilia reticulata is
an effective biological control agent of mosquitoes
in different habitats in Iran. This specie regulates
the populations of different species of pest and
vector mosquitoes. P. reticulata can consume a
good number of mosquito larvae, with the
consumption rate varying with the body size
(Manna et al., 2008). Hora & Mukherjee classified
the gender Poecilia in surface feeder which is less
efficient owing to their mode of life (Chakraborty et
al., 2008). How they recognize feed especially
immature mosquitoes is unknown yet.
The history of domestication and artificial
selection of colour-pattern and tail-shape and
feeding varieties of guppy from wild populations is
poorly documented, although it was reported to
have started in the early 1930’s in the United States
(Whitem, 1962). One of the most important factors
in selection the aquarium fish is the behavior of
feeding. It is an interesting entertainment to observe
how fish take the food. Furthermore, one of the
most important factors in fisheries biology is food
consumption of species since it may contribute to
limit production. This factor has previously been
estimated in several ways, including laboratory
experiments under conditions simulating those in
the field as closely as possible, studies of the
growth rates and energy budgets of species to
determine this figure indirectly and quantitative
analysis of the stomach contents over time in
conjunction with knowledge on the gut evacuation
rates of the species concerned (Richter, 1999). The
feeding behavior of Guppy is rarely documented.
The problem of describing visual feeding
may be greatly reduced if a theoretical model can
be developed (Dag L. Aksnes and Jarl Giske, 1993).
The aim of this study was to determine feeding
behavior in P. reticulata and report that is this
species a visual feeder?
MATERIAL AND METHODS
Six aquariums by dimension of 30×40×75
were made for doing this experiment and were
inundation until 20 cm depth. The useful volume of
the aquariums was 45lit.
At first a Disinfectants elixir with the
amount of 1 drop in 2lit water and anti chlorine
elixir with the amount of 1 drop in 2lit water for
disinfection of water were used. Six air stones and
aeration pumps (142×70×95mm, 3.5w, 3.2lit/min)
were used for aeration and the level of o2 was stable
during the experiment and it was kept at about 7ppt.
The temperature of the water by using a heater with
the power of 250w was set at 27˚c in the
experiment. Six filters with the power of 20w and
flow of 1000lit/h were used for elimination of
suspended and waste particles.
For this experiment, 120 samples of guppy
Poecilia reticulata were used. The lengths of all
samples were the same and they had 5cm length.
The samples were all 60_days old. All of the
samples were female. Biomar by diameter of
0.3mm was used for feeding the fish and in each
meal 1gr of it was feed in specified place.
The fish were affecting by 6 treatments that
each one was 5 days. Two points (A, B) far in a
maximum distance were selected for feeding. In
aquarium No.1 hand move by feeding was done in
point A and in 10 meals the fish were affected by

3. this treatment. Feeding was done at 8:00 and 16:00
o’clock and the numbers of fish that moved and did
not move to point A were counted. In aquarium
No.2 in 5 days and 10 meals hand move without
feeding in point A was done. The numbers of fish
that moved and did not move to point A were
counted. In aquarium No.3 hand move in point A
and feeding in point B were done. Feeding in point
B was done by a 2m distance tube. At first the
biomar was poured at the beginning of the tube and
then from 2m distance by 25% gradient for tube the
fish was feed. In this treatment the number of fish
that moved to points A and B were counted. In
aquarium No.4 feeding was done without hand
move in point B. The feeding method which was
used in aquarium No.3 was used in this aquarium
too and the numbers of fish that moved and did not
move to point B were counted. In all of the
treatments the feeding was done at 8:00 and 16:00
o’clock.
Furthermore, these treatments feeding were
done in dark and semi dark conditions. In semi dark
conditions hand move was done by feeding in point
A in aquarium No.5 and the numbers of fish that
moved and did not move to point A were counted.
The light intensity was 50µmolphotons-1. In dark
conditions the feeding was the same with as
aquarium No.1 and it was done in aquarium No.6.
In this condition the light intensity was
5µmolphotons-1.
The number of fish that moved to points A
and B were counted after 3s after the treatment.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
RESULTS:
The number of fish that moved to points A
and B were counted in 1-3 seconds in each
aquarium. In aquarium No.1, 2, 5 and 6, the
numbers of fish that moved and did not move to
point A were counted. In aquarium No.1, in 5
replications all of the fish moved to point A and in
9 replications more than 90% of fish moved to this
point. Only in R6 six fish did not move to this point
(Figure 1).
In aquarium No.2 like aquarium No.1, the
numbers of fish that moved to point A were more
than the numbers that did not move. In 9
replications more than 90% of fish by hand move in
point A without feeding moved to this point and in
R4 four samples of fish did not move to this point.
In 6 Replication 95% of fish moved to this point
(Figure 2).
In aquarium No.3 the numbers of fish that
by hand move in point A moved to this point and by
feeding in point B moved to this point were
counted. In all of the replications more than 90% of
fish without any attention to feeding moved to hand
move and in 4 Replication all of fish moved to this
point (Figure 3).

4. In aquarium No.4 only feeding in point B
was done and the numbers of fish that moved and
did not move to this point were counted. The
numbers of fish increased in each replication. In R1
and R2 the fish did not move to this point and only
20% and 5% of fish moved to these points,
respectively. After R2 in three replications more
than 80% of fish moved to this point and in R6 &
R7, 90% of Guppies moved to the target point. in
R8 & R9, 95% and in R10, all of the fish moved to
point B (Figure 4).
In aquarium No.5 feeding were like
aquarium No.1 but it was done in semi dark
condition. Like aquarium No.1 most of fish moved
to point A. In 3 replications 90% of fish, 2
replication 95% of fish and in 5 replication all of
the fish moved to point A (Figure 5).
In aquarium No.6 feeding were like
aquarium No.1 and 5 and it was done in dark
conditions. Despite aquarium No.1 and 5 the fish
did not move to point A and only in R4 one fish
moved to this point and in the other replication
none of the fish moved to this point.(Figure 6).
DISCUSSION
In aquarium No.1, 94% of fish moved to
hand move by feeding and in aquarium No.2 it was
about 92%. Comparison of these two treatments
show that this fish prefer power vision than power
of smell for feeding. Also in aquarium No.3 hand
move and feeding were done simultaneously to
show the fish preference to move. The results show
these species without any attention to feeding
moves to hand move. Nicol (1989) examines
several aspects of the visual capabilities of fish.
Perception of movement, colour vision and
adaptation to photoenvironment are the most
important factors. Confirmation of using power
vision hand move with feeding in darkness and
semi darkness conditions were also done. In semi
darkness conditions, 96% of fish moved to hand
move with feeding, this was similar in lighting
conditions and in darkness conditions, 99.5% of
fish did not move to hand move with feeding
(Figure 7). These two treatments show that P.
reticulata use power vision while feeding.

5. Munz and McFarland 1977 suggested that
characteristic fluctuations in light regime may be
more important for a visual feeder than
characteristic variations in food abundance that was
similar to our results.
Munz and McFarland (1977) listed two
conditions that must be met for an animal to see a
target: (1) enough light must come from the target
to activate the visual receptors, i.e. the visual
system must be sufficiently sensitive; (2) there must
be enough visual contrast so that the target can be
distinguished from the background against which it
is viewed. This experiment showed that the fish see
the target in both lighting and semi darkness
conditions but in darkness conditions visual
receptor does not receive enough light and therefore
does not react to them. The results of aquarium
No.4 showed that this specie uses power of smell
instead of power vision (Figure 8).
According to the classification of Hora &
Mukherjee (1938) P. reticulata is a surface feeder
fish which we also resulted. Furthermore, this
specie consumes mosquito larvae in surface of
water like our examination that shows they use
visual system in order to see larvae and consume
them. Our results showed that this specie is a good
aquarium fish for their feeding behavior. One of the
most important factors in selection aquarium fish is
the behavior of feeding and moving with hand
move which can be interesting for those who feed
the fish.
