LEVEL: Intermediate (B1)
  TYPE OF ACTIVITY: Group work
  SKILLS: Speaking and listening

AIM
   • To describe pictures as accurately as possible.
   • To be able to recognize what someone has described.
   .

LEXICAL AND GRAMMATICAL AREA
  • Adjectives and general vocabulary used for describing.
  • Place prepositions and structures to describe location (In the
background, on the right/left, beside, on the floor…)

TASKS

   • Describing pictures in depth so that their classmates can recognize them.
   • Guessing the picture by listening to a student’s description.

PREPARATION AND MATERIALS
  • PowerPoint presentation with the different pictures.
  • A rubber beeping burger (or some beeping element) per group.

TIMING
30 minutes.

PROCEDURE

   • Divide your class into groups of three
       students.
   • Tell students that they are going to play a
game called Beep the Burger and explain the
       rules.
   • Players decide among themselves who starts
       describing the first picture.
   • The first student seats facing the screen
where the slide is going to be shown. The other two students seat the other
way round, so that they cannot see what is on the screen.
• The teacher now shows a slide, where there are several similar pictures
labelled with a number. The student who is facing the screen must choose
one of them –without saying it to the other players- and describe this
    photograph as accurately as possible.
• As soon as this description is finished, the other two students must turn
round, look at the screen and recognize the picture that has just been
    described.
• The first player to spot the picture must squeeze the rubber burger until it
beeps and say the number of the photograph that s/he thinks has been
    described.
• If the answer is right, the student who has beeped the burger gets one point.
If not, s/he has one point taken away and another partner can squeeze the
burger and have a go by saying the number of the described picture. If the
answer is correct, s/he gets a point but if not, s/he has one point taken away
    too.
• Students must swap turns –clockwise- to describe. As there are 12 slides, all
the students must describe 4 pictures.
• The teacher must set a time limit and stop the game whenever appropriate.
The winner is the player with the highest final score.

The teacher must move around the class and monitor the students’ answers helping
     them with vocabulary.
