Satsuma Ware Tea Bowl
1.Satsuma Ware Tea Bowl The Satsuma Ware Tea Bowl is from Hankizan, Japan from the Meiji
Period. It is earthenware with low fire enamel decoration. The fall aesthetic is extremely evident on
this piece of pottery. The coloring of the pottery is mostly oranges, browns, and dark greens. There
are also a few bright colors like blue and pink, but those are subdued by the other colors. The interior
design use of chrysanthemums is pivotal in the fall aesthetic. Chrysanthemums are a flower
associated with fall not only in Asia but also in the United States. As fresh chrysanthemums were
essential in the homecoming mum tradition throughout the southern United States. The fall

In the Article, The Rise of the Ottoman Turks and Its Historical Background , William L. Langer
and Robert P. Blake precisely discuses to readers the progression of one of the most phenomenal
empires in history, The Ottomans. To go along with that they also speak upon any of its historical
backgrounds. The information that is provided in this article comes from two authors that have
worked with history for multiple years. The first author is William L. Langer; Historian, ex
chairman of the history department at Harvard University, and a specialist in diplomacy. He also
has worked on many books in his past, but mainly dealing with European History. The second
author, historian, and also a professor from Harvard, Robert P. Blake mainly has a past with

Throughout this passage both authors, Langer and Blake inform readers about the Ottomans in no
chronological order whatsoever hopping from different dates throughout the article. They start off
by discussing about the rapid progress of Turkish studies during the eighteenth century, which
introduces the multiple chroniclers that had tried to create the chronicles of the Ottoman Empire
such as Josef Von Hammer, Johann Zinkeisen, and a brief more(470 474). Langer and Blake uses
the chroniclers as resources to give different information out about the Ottomans. As information is
given from each of the chroniclers, Langer and Blake tells readers what the strongpoints of all of
the popular chroniclers were on the chronicles of the Ottoman History(470 474). After that, the
article slowly progresses to concrete facts about the Ottoman Empire. These facts consist of how the
geography of it was, the different emperors throughout the empire, the history of the Turks, the
economy, the defeats, the victories, just the overall timeline of the Ottomans. Langer and Blake

Beltway Sniper Case Study Answers
Beltway Sniper
The Beltway Sniper case included two men John Muhammad, and Lee Malvo whom carried out
attacks killing 10 people and wounding several other people. All of these attacks were carried out
by using a high powered .223 caliber rifle. The ballistics processing was especially important
because the use of firearm was the weapon that killed 10 innocent people, and wounded several
others. This case was cracked because one of the suspects called police and mentioned they were
responsible for a murder that took place in Montgomery Alabama outside a liquor store. The
investigators that were working on that case found a magazine left at the crime scene, and they
compared the fingerprints left on it to fingerprints of Malvo s immigration record. ... Show more

An investigation involving a firearm is a specialty of forensic science which focuses on the
examination of firearms linked to ballistics. Ballistics is related to finding out the exact flight path
of projectiles. Ballistics is the area of study that examines the exact path of the bullet from the
moment it leaves the muzzle of the firearm up until it hits the target. During examination many
items are collected for evidence including the firearm, bullets, live ammunition, cartridge casings,
trace materials such as powder residue, and anything damaged by the projectile. Firearms are often
divided into three processes: Internal, External, and Terminal Ballistics. Internal refers to the inside
of the firearm; the space of time in which the shooter pulls the trigger, and the when the bullet is
exiting. External ballistics is the flight between leaving the muzzle of the firearm, and it striking its
target. Terminal ballistics is the impact of ballistics that refers to the examination in which the
projectile strikes a target. All firearms leave markings on the cartridge casings once expelled when
firing. Ballistic identification and microstamping laws make it possible to link a cartridge

Casting Defects and their influence on property
Shivam Gupta and Somesh Mohapatra
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department,
Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee
Abstract
Casting is one of the major metallurgical operations carried out in the manufacturing industry.
Given the large scale of operations, the number of defects in the process also goes up with the
development of the time and methods of the processing. Although, we have managed to cover up
for the defects in the procedure, yet the remnants pose a huge problem. Now, every property
attributes its relations to the casting process and the correlation of the defect in the microstructure,
ductility, machinability, etc. all trace their reasons back to the type of casting or the defect
associated with it. In the present study, we have tried to analyze two main types of defects mainly,
filling and thermal defects, with their sub types along with the causes, effects on the properties and
remedies.
Keywords: Casting Defects; Filling Defects; Thermal Defects.
1. Introduction

The Washington Monument took much longer than planned to build due to the Civil War. The
visual element of the Washington monument is a tall pillar with a pyramid on the top. This kind of
visual was used by Egyptians a long time ago. The structure of the Washington Monument changed
multiple times. These changes were due to different architectures planning the monument as well as
different people in the public having different ideas as to what the monument should look like for
what it was supposed to convey. The Washington monument is built of white stone from the top to
bottom. The Washington Monument is extremely large and is the most noticeable monument in
Washington DC due to its extreme height. This provides to Washington Monument with gradeur.
The Washington Monument was once one of the tallest stone buildings in the world. The
Washington Monument encourages visitors to stay further away from it. Due to the large height
someone must be standing far away from it in order to get the whole monument in the picture. Also,
the circle of flags at the bottom of the monument encourage people to stay away from it. These
items suggest remoteness when viewing the Washington Monument. Though the Washington

Psychological Comfort in Don DelilloВґs White Noise Essay
In modern society, the outstanding technology has brought human to a bright new age that people
are more likely to value the materiality. Then more problems are raised from the technological
development and further implicated with human emotions and basic desires. For example, in Don
Delillo s novel White noise , the fear of death is emphasized and given a new definition that fits
into this lopsided modern society, which is overwhelmed by all kinds of information from mass
media. People unconsciously dedicate more onto the stories that media made up for them,
distracting the awareness of death by focusing on the mass media culture that as a ramification

In essay Big and Bad , Gladwell has implied the way the mass media influence people; a
experiment of university of Pennsylvania is presented, Dogs were restrained by a harness, so
that they couldn t move, and then repeatedly subjected to a series of electrical shocks. Then the
same dogs were shocked again, only this time there could easily escape by jumping over a low
hurdle. But most of them didn t, they just huddle in the corner, no longer believing that there was
anything they could do to influence their own fate. (448) In other word, those dogs are lost hope
and the motivation to think since they give up doing it. There are so many advertisements on the
television today saying that they represent the truth, without any consideration for the audiences.
However, more or less, we are influenced. What s more, the effect of hindered thinking has
brought humans back to primitive level, where Gladwell says But at the reptilian level they think
that if I am bigger and taller I m safer. (442)
Compare to Babette s idea of getting used to the effect of mass media, thinking SUV is safer
would actually be a result of such idea. Since they spend long time watching TV, people have
already got used to be a listener who most likely settled for the fate and distanced away from the
true sense of a normal human being. As the time they want safety, they

Examples Of Inside The Federalist Paper
Looking into the old governmental policies that helped shape our amazing Constitutional Republic
today, I ve noticed quite a few policies that are still in use today, and for the most part, remain
unchanged. Inside The Federalist Papers, by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay,
are a great way to locate the old governmental policies that are still the same today in America. In
Federalist No. 1, Alexander Hamiltonwrites of the importance and success of the Constitution as
the government. He is very biased throughout the entire essay, but is at least aware of his bias. He
talks about his bias and he forces his opinions on the readers throughout the entire speech. This
discussion of bias actually opened withing and because of this essay and leads the entire Federalist
Papersto be quite biased. However, this bias is not bad and turned out to be very persuasive to the
anti federalists. In Federalist No. 2, written by John Jay, includes much important information about
how the nation needs to be united. He also lets the people supporting the division of the United
States know that their way is not the right way for the country. It would completely weaken and
disarm the country. Jay s message in all of this essay is about the importance of the nation s unity.
This is still very important today and is why the United States of... Show more content on

types and ethnicities. Because of this, it is important to choose the best electric shaver for black

Another amazing choice, and possibly the best electric shaver for black men altogether, is the

However, this is for good reason. The Pulsonic is one of the most popular and well built shavers

Thomas Builds the Fire is character that has experiences many tragic outcomes in his life. For

Bebop Research Paper
Bebop Jazz
Jazz is a genre of music in which improvisation is typically an important part. Jazz has had a
major influence on most popular music genres in the 20th century such as rock, hip hop, Latin and
the list goes on. There s a genre of jazz for every single individual out there which makes it such an
interesting topic and from there branches another very popular subgenre of jazz called Bebop.
Bebop is a style of jazz which was developed in the 1940s. Bebop had the effect of removing jazz
from the mainstream of popular tunes which was mainly for dancing and focused on music that was
presented as a form of art other than entertainment. Just like many subgenres of jazz, bebop was

end of the day, have the same effort put into them and has Parkers signature alto sax. The history
behind the pieces, Parkers story of how his father left and his rough childhood send shivers
down my spine and I think that everyone can learn a lesson from this musical hero. You can be
anything your pursuit to be but should be wise as well. Parker followed his dreams and what he
wanted to do but because he didn t make smart choices with his life, it ended too soon. I think
without Parkers story and music; the world would be different. Without his tragic passing, the
legend would have lived on and continued to stun us with more music. I strongly believe he is up

Sql Vs. Oracle Server
SQL vs. Oracle Server
Dheeraj Balamoori
Wilmington University Abstract
Databases are most paramount part in today s organizations. In the event that the servers are down
for quite a while and data is not accessible there would be enormous misfortune to the organization
regarding income and good will. Thus, databases play an essential part in today s business. There
are various relational database management systems (RDBMS) like Microsoft Access, Sybase,
MySQL and oracle but out of all databases Oracle and MS SQL are the widely used applications
throughout the globe. Oracle databases are unique for having large and abnormal state abilities to
handle the circumstances like data inaccessibility, support issues, information and system failures
and so forth. Microsoft SQL Server database has the usefulness of high information accessibility
and security however is not viable as of Oracle s because it has good depth in high data
availability. As Oracle is having more enterprise applications the databse is used widely for most of
the top financial companies like bank of America, HDFC Bank, National Australia Bank
Introduction
Since their presentation in the 1980s, relational database administration frameworks (RDBMS)
have turned into the standard database sort for an assortment of commercial ventures. As their
name suggests, these systems are focused around the social model that sorts out information into
gatherings of tables alluded to as relations.

The African American And Hispanic Community Essay
Yes I do feel that the efforts to gain equal rights and right for traditionally excluded people are
still incomplete. Society is still suffering from the after effects of slavery. Although, we as a
society are looked at as all human beings with the same life value, it is not that simple. The efforts
for everyone to be equal has made a tremendous improvement it still has not made enough to say
that we are all equal in society. The African American
community and Hispanic community are very
inferior to the Caucasian community. Society has made it very clear about how they feel about the
African American and Hispanic community. The media, television, education are very stereotypical
on the inferior communities. The media has depicted African Americans as ghetto, uneducated,
Drug lords, crack victims and classless.
Hispanics are depicted as only good enough to be a gardener or maid, that all they do is have a lot
of children, and that they stand in front of Home Depot. In television shows or movie films African
American characters are more likely to have negative characteristics than Caucasians characters.
Negative characteristics such as using vulgar profanity: black people are 89 percent, white people
are 17 percent, being physically violent: black people are 56 percent, white people are 11 percent,

the attendees helps to set the stage for the subsequent scenes in the movie where the bombing run

movie such as the scene where Danny dies and tells Rafe with his last breath that Rafe will be a

that these scenes could be attributed to any other fictional movie while the memorial scene truly

In Shakespearian plays, women were shown as the victims of men and also, women were
described as calm. Women were oppressed by men. Men were shown as violent and aggressive.
Good Night Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), written by Ann Marie Macdonald talks about
women being aggressive and violent. Women are shown equal to men according to their behavior,
but they can still be easily manipulated by men. Women are the victims of the actions of men. Men

The Doctrine of Discovery was a concept used to further colonization and strip land from the

Chief Justice Marshall was set forth to mimic colonial powers and prevent further European
expansion on U.S. soils. Following the Johnson v McIntosh case, it established a preventive
measure of Indians and Indian tribes from selling the land to anyone but the United States
government. This was to prevent European colonies to develop in the United States.
The doctrine was important for the development and expansion of colonial powers, but the
implementation was a negative effect by forcefully taking lands from the indigenous. It disowned
the culture and lifestyles of millions. Rationally it is a shame that the government chose to deny
aboriginal title owners as they should have been allowed to keep their land. I agree in the decision

Community Policing
Abstract
The descent of good neighbourhoods begins with unruly behaviour, loitering and other disruptive
acts by members of society. Due to the reality that crime is a problem; it is beneficial to police
officers and law enforcement to interact with communities and discover what needs to be done and
how urgent that action must be executed. Due to its ability to uncover problems and lead to the
efficient management of those problems, community policing is still an effective method to keep
crime rates down, boost community resident s sense of safety and maintain orderly communities.
Community Policing is an ideal, created over the years through rigorous research this method of
social intervention involves three major components: Organizational ... Show more content on

Close knit communities are less likely to struggle with rampant crime. This is a benefit of
community policing. Members of the community can contribute significantly to strategies for
containing and eradicating crime. Due to the closeness the police officers have with the community,
community members feel safe and confident. It is hard work! There is a lot of commitment
required from department staff and city leaders responsible for institutionalizing community
policing. Organisational transformation means that police departments will have to restructure in a
way that accommodates the goals and vision of community policing. (Lawrence and McCarthy,
2013). Restructuring is demanding and it means a lot of patience as policies, training and
procedures all undergo changes. There is also the maintenance of meaningful community
partnerships. This maintenance would require the inclusion of missing voices, briefing and
education for stakeholders and shared responsibility amongst those involved for the outcomes.
Community policing is definitely a lot of maintenance and development and it consumes a

Essay about The Firing of Bobby Knight
The Firing of Bobby Knight
Bobby Knight, longtime Indiana men s head basketball coach, was recently fired. This firing
sparked a controversy among basketball fans throughout the nation; did he deserve to be fired? I
believe that Bobby Knight deserved to be fired. Although coach Knight is one of the best
coaches in the nation and has earned the respect of countless numbers of fans including myself, I
do not believe that a coach should be able to act the way he acted and get away with it. Coach
Knight s record for abusing players, abusing the media, and being a jerk should speak for itself
and there is no doubt in my mind that Bobby Knights firing can be justified. Bobby Knight s
college basketball career goes back over 40 years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knight went on to lead the Hoosiers to a remarkable twenty 20 win seasons, including three 30
win seasons. Knight s teams appeared in 24 NCAA tournaments and won three of them. Knight s
1975 76 squad remains the only team in men s college basketball history to venture through the
regular season and the NCAA tournament, finishing the season with an overall record of 32 0.
Knight, the leading coach in Big Ten history as far as wins are concerned, has 763 career victories
behind him which leaves him 116 wins short of former North Carolina coach Dean Smith s college
record 879 wins as head coach. He has guided two U.S. National Teams to international gold,
once in the Pan Am games in 1979 and once in the Olympics in 1980. Coach Knight has
obviously earned the respect of many fans and other coaches, but the fact of the matter is that
Knight had several problems on and off the court that were overlooked for so long that some
people think that he deserved to keep his job. Knight s downfall in my mind was his
uncontrollable temper and the fact that he could never admit that he was wrong about anything.
Most serious competitors in sports are expected to have an aggressive attitude towards winning,
but coach Knight s aggression goes beyond wanting to win. Before 1979 there were really no
reasons for anyone to be concerned about coach Knight s temper. Sure, he had always yelled
frantically at the referees and screamed at his players during games,

Printing Press Vs Steam Engine
The printing press and steam engine have had major impacts on our society. Steam engines use
hot steam from boiling water to drive a piston back and forth. The movement of the piston is then
used to power a machine or turn a wheel. The printing press is a mechanical device for producing
many copies of a text on paper. Both of these inventions have had amazing impacts on our society.
The steam engines were invented by Thomas Savery. The steam enginehas helped to power the
Industrial Revolution. Before steam power, most factories and mills were powered by water, wind,
horse, or man. Water was a good source of power, but factories had to be located near a river. Both
water and wind power could be unreliable as sometimes rivers could dry up during a drought or
freeze during the winter and wind didn t always blow. Steam power allowed for factories to be
located anywhere. It also provided reliable power and could be used... Show more content on

The printing press is important because it makes the mass production of printed materials
possible. For thousands of years prior to the invention of the printing press, all works in the
history of human writing could only be copied by hand or by inefficient forms of block printing,
time consuming and laborious processes that commanded high fees. The printing press
dramatically reduced the time and expense of copying works and paved the way for the
democratization of knowledge. These two recent inventions have had many impacts in our lives
today. Without the steam engines we would not have as many factories. This could result in less
production for our basic necessities. The printing press is also very important because without it
everyone would have to copy things with hand. This process could discourage many authors and
writers and make it difficult for their audience to sometimes read their works. This advancement s

ELL Assessment Process
The English Language Learner (ELL) assessment process is different in each state. Each state must
assess student s performance in reading or language arts in order to comply with the No Child Left
Behind Act (NCLB). In addition NCLB requires that schools receiving Title III funds annually
assess the English Proficiency of all Limited English Proficiency (LEP) students participating in
Title III programs. Although the assessments may vary, the goals of the assessments are all the
same, to assess where students are as they learn the English language. Is this assessment enough or
should alternative assessments be required?

Tracking Is An Assault On Liberty By Nicholas Carr
In the essay, Tracking Is an Assault on Liberty by Nicholas Carr, he argues the importance of
privacy when one is surfing the web. Carr writes how companies personalize ads they provide on
the internet based on our personal information. We are not aware of the consequences and the
information we disclose about ourselves on the internet. Everything we do on the internet is
recorded and stored. Nicholas Carr uses ethos and counter argument/refutation to express to his
audience that their privacy is being violated. Carr utilizes ethical appeals to identify to his
readers that he/she has a right to their own privacy and how companies and organizations are
violating it. He strengthens his ethical appeal and argument by collecting ample evidence from
professionals in the field. Carr writes, ...the computer consultant Tom Owad... wrote a simple
piece of software that allowed him to download public wish lists that Amazon.com customers
post to catalog products that they plan to purchase...Mr. Owad ended up with maps of the United
States showing the locations of people interested in particular books and ideas... (Carr 437). Carr
uses an expert to enhance his argument and provide a credible source. The greater a person s
authority, the more likely an audience is inclined to listen and be persuaded. By putting an expert s
research on his essay, Carr s audience will be convinced which will lead them to trust him more.
Another example where Carr uses an expert s opinion is when he notes, As the computer security
expert Bruce Schneierhas observed, privacy is not just a screen we hide behind when we do
something naughty or embarrassing; privacy is intrinsic to the concept of liberty. When we feel
that we re always being watched, we begin to lose our sense of self reliance and free will and,
along with it, our individuality (Carr 439). Carr uses Scheiner s, a computer security expert, to tell
his readers how one feels when they feel like they lost their privacy. Car uses reasoned argument by
stating series of statements that use evidence and reasoning to support his claim.
Carr also uses counterargument/refutations to influence the readers that our personal datas may fall
in the wrong hands. He writes, You have

system is designed to issue the juvenile with reprimands and warnings that is referred to as the
Final Warning Scheme (Evans Ragonese, 2007, p. 1). One of the primary purposes of the Youth
Offender Team is to review the juvenile s history and examine any offences that the juvenile has

As shown in figure 7 the as prepared CuO nanostructures with different ratio of citric acid exhibit
different sensitivities to visible light, the absorption edge is shifted to shorter wavelength with
compact size and altered morphology. Our results point out not only the size but also the
morphology of the CuO nanocrystals affects the bandgap. It is quite observable from the figure

2016 [28] reported the increase in absorption is highly desirable for better efficiency of a solar cell.
Therefore the SP0.10A sample exhibits the strongest absorbance and has a uniform flower shaped

that counsellors participation in mindfulness based therapy had an overall positive impact on both
their personal and professional life. Results suggest the training course had associated benefits in
the subjects personal life, particularly personal growth/self care and interpersonal relationships.
Firstly, within personal development/self care, results found participants noticed physical benefits
including increased flexibility, energy and circulation. Recorded emotional benefits included a
greater sense of emotional control and reduced anxiety. Some participants added that the
continuation of mindfulness based practice allowed them to reduce self criticism. Increased
intellectual abilities participants recorded included a greater ability to focus on a particular
thought as well as developing an open mind. Participants also recorded an increased sense of
awareness allowing them to be more conscious about their physical and psychological well being.
Here, the results suggest that the mindfulness based course does lead to increased well being.
Further research into the physical and psychological domains is required due to external factors that
may also influence participants well being. Additional results in relation to the mindfulness based
intervention on interpersonal relationships all recorded improved well being. Subjects were
reportedly able to better relate to others.

Memory Essay
Memory is defined as the persistence of learning over time through the storage and retrieval of
information. Our memory can be compared to a computer s information processing system. To
remember an event we need to get information into our brain which is encoding, store the
information and then be able to retrieve it. The three stage processing model of Richard Atkinson
and Richard Shiffrin suggests that we record information that we want to remember first as a
fleeting sensory memoryand then it is processed into a short term memory bin where we encode it
( pay attention to encode important or novel stimuli) for long term memory and later retrieval. The
premise for the three step process is that we are unable to focus on too much... Show more content

The amount remembered depends on the time spent learning. Even after we learn material/names,
additional rehearsal increases retention. For novel verbal information, practice effortful processing
does indeed improve our memory. We also retain information better when our rehearsal is
distributed over a period of time, known as spacing effect. People who have experienced serial
position effect strengthen the benefits of rehearsal. When shown a list of words/names and then
immediately asked to recall the items in any order, they struggle to recall the list. They remember
of the first and last words/names better than those in the middle. This is probably due to the fact
that the last names/ items are still in short term memory; people briefly recall them especially
quickly and well. But after a delay, after they shift their attention from the last names/items their
recall is best for the first names/items. We must remember that our memory system processes
information not just by repetitive rehearsal but also by encoding its significant features.
Strategies and devices that help us remember information that requires effortful processing are:
encoding its meaning, visualizing, and mentally organizing the

The Ethics Of Chefs Buying Locally Organic Foods
If chefs chose only to buy locally sourced foods not only would thousands metric tons of Carbon
Dioxide (CO2) be eradicated and local economies grow, but would pave way for a revolutionary
trend, our planet s health may depend on this. In todays consuming world, the ethical importance of
chefs buying locally sourced foods are threefold, lowers the use of carbon emissions of produce
transportation, availability to fresher, more flavourful foods in the market, and supports local
economies to thrive. Ethically, to eat local seems like common sense for thee betterment of the
environment and the community.
In order to discuss the importance of chefs using locally grown foods, one must first define local
foods . This proves to be difficult when the definition of local foods varies depending on where you
live. A 2008 Leopold Institute survey of consumers throughout the United States found that two
thirds considered local food to mean food grown within 100 miles. (DeWeerdt, S. (2009, June). Is
Local Food Better? Retrieved from http://www.worldwatch.org/node/6064) Others will interpret it
as food grown within the immediate region, city, country, or 1 day to reach the market from the

traveling greater distances has a direct impact on the carbon footprint and global warming. Chefs

The Concept Of Self Identity
The concept of Self Identity, and the theories that relate to it, are ever present in Mary Shelley s
Frankenstein. The concept of Self Identity is a Psychological concept that many famous
Psychologists have spent years studying. The main theories of self identity that relate to the story of
Frankenstein are those by Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and Jean Jacques Rousseau. The ideas of
Sigmund Freud s concept of Superego, Id, and Ego are represented by Victor s father, the
creation, and Victor with their actions in the novel. Carl Jung s theory of shadow and self is
represented by Victor and his creation. The theory of tabula rasa and nature versus nurture are
shown by Victor and his relationship with his creation. In Frankenstein, several psychological
concepts based on self identity are showcased by Victor and his relationships with other beings.
Victor s own creation becomes representative of his Id, through the creatures reliance on instinct
and lack of ability to accept his own isolation. Freud describes the Id as the instinctual part of our
personality, and this includes sleeping, eating, and procreating. The monster catches up with
Victor and has a request for Victor, I am alone, and miserable; man will not associate with me; but
one as deformed and horrible as myself would not deny herself to me... This being you must create

tend to pay attention to most of the models. At a later time in the child s life they may imitate
the behavior that they are surrounded by. This can be related to nurture. Nurture means the
things that us, as humans see in our environment not something we are born with that comes
natural to us. Nature on the other hand is something that we inherit from our genetics. I agree
with the study Bandura conducted I feel as if we do have things that we are just born with, but I

Reggae Music Research Paper
The History of a Legacy
What is reggae music? Reggae music is a type of music that consists of different genres of music
such as blues and calypso. Reggae music also consists of different rhythms such as different
accents on different beats of the music. Say for instance you are playing in a four/four time
measure. The natural beat for a drummer playing in this type of particular time measure would be
for him to hit his high hat on all 4 beats, his bass foot pedal on one and three, and his snare on two
and four. When playing reggae this particular pattern differs for the drummer. When playing reggae
the drummer has more room to play around with the beat. In this particular setting the drummer
would continue to hit the hi hat on all four beats of the four measure. He would then start the
measure of music by hitting his bass foot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

toms of a drum set, but differ as far as the material that is used to create the distinct sound of
these two instruments. Toms of a drum set consist of man made material, whereas bongos
consist of drumheads that are made from an animals skin. Bongos also are an advocate to the

An electric guitar is the exact same thing as a bass guitar, with the exception of the pitch. A bass
guitar has a deep bellowing kind of a pitch, whereas an electric guitar has more of a high pitch to

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An investigation involving a firearm is a specialty of forensic science which focuses on the examination of firearms linked to ballistics. Ballistics is related to finding out the exact flight path of projectiles. Ballistics is the area of study that examines the exact path of the bullet from the moment it leaves the muzzle of the firearm up until it hits the target. During examination many items are collected for evidence including the firearm, bullets, live ammunition, cartridge casings, trace materials such as powder residue, and anything damaged by the projectile. Firearms are often divided into three processes: Internal, External, and Terminal Ballistics. Internal refers to the inside of the firearm; the space of time in which the shooter pulls the trigger, and the when the bullet is exiting. The Doctrine of Discovery was a concept used to further colonization and strip land from the indigenous people. Following the Johnson v McIntosh case, it established a preventive measure of Indians and Indian tribes from selling the land to anyone but the United States government. This was to prevent European colonies to develop in the United States. The doctrine was important for the development and expansion of colonial powers, but the implementation was a negative effect by forcefully taking lands from the indigenous. These two recent inventions have had many impacts in our lives today. Without the steam engines we would not have as many factories. This could result in less production for our basic necessities. The printing press is also very important because without it everyone would have to copy things with hand. This process could discourage many authors and writers and make it difficult for their audience to sometimes read their works. Each state must assess student s performance in reading or language arts in order to comply with the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). In addition NCLB requires that schools receiving Title III funds annually assess the English Proficiency of all Limited English Proficiency (LEP) students participating in Title III programs. Although the assessments may vary, the goals of the assessments are all the same, to assess where students are as they learn the English language. The test is comprised of; multiple choice questions in listening, reading, and writing. A short written response and an extended written response for the writing area, and an oral response for the oral area, are also required. The oral, written portion of the test is graded by trained teachers, while the multiple choice portion is graded by Pearson. The test is administered in the spring and the results provide students, teachers, and parents with an objective view of the student s strengths and weaknesses. The listening and speaking scores are combined to obtain an overall scale score, as are the reading and writing scores. The overall performance is determined by the scores in each combined area. A conversion chart is provided in each grade band, to convert the raw score to a scale score. Then depending on where the scale scores land will give you the placement level that the student is at. To move from one level to another both component scores must land in the upper level range. A student, who advances in only one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Tracking Is An Assault On Liberty By Nicholas Carr In the essay, Tracking Is an Assault on Liberty by Nicholas Carr, he argues the importance of privacy when one is surfing the web. Carr writes how companies personalize ads they provide on the internet based on our personal information. We are not aware of the consequences and the information we disclose about ourselves on the internet. Everything we do on the internet is recorded and stored. Nicholas Carr uses ethos and counter argument/refutation to express to his audience that their privacy is being violated. Carr utilizes ethical appeals to identify to his readers that he/she has a right to their own privacy and how companies and organizations are violating it. He strengthens his ethical appeal and argument by collecting ample evidence from professionals in the field. Carr writes, ...the computer consultant Tom Owad... wrote a simple piece of software that allowed him to download public wish lists that Amazon.com customers post to catalog products that they plan to purchase...Mr. Owad ended up with maps of the United States showing the locations of people interested in particular books and ideas... (Carr 437). Carr uses an expert to enhance his argument and provide a credible source. The greater a person s authority, the more likely an audience is inclined to listen and be persuaded. By putting an expert s research on his essay, Carr s audience will be convinced which will lead them to trust him more. Another example where Carr uses an expert s opinion is when he notes, As the computer security expert Bruce Schneierhas observed, privacy is not just a screen we hide behind when we do something naughty or embarrassing; privacy is intrinsic to the concept of liberty. When we feel that we re always being watched, we begin to lose our sense of self reliance and free will and, along with it, our individuality (Carr 439). Carr uses Scheiner s, a computer security expert, to tell his readers how one feels when they feel like they lost their privacy. Car uses reasoned argument by stating series of statements that use evidence and reasoning to support his claim. Carr also uses counterargument/refutations to influence the readers that our personal datas may fall in the wrong hands. He writes, You have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our memory can be compared to a computer s information processing system. To remember an event we need to get information into our brain which is encoding, store the information and then be able to retrieve it. The three stage processing model of Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin suggests that we record information that we want to remember first as a fleeting sensory memoryand then it is processed into a short term memory bin where we encode it ( pay attention to encode important or novel stimuli) for long term memory and later retrieval. The premise for the three step process is that we are unable to focus on too much... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The amount remembered depends on the time spent learning. Even after we learn material/names, additional rehearsal increases retention. For novel verbal information, practice effortful processing does indeed improve our memory. We also retain information better when our rehearsal is distributed over a period of time, known as spacing effect. People who have experienced serial position effect strengthen the benefits of rehearsal. When shown a list of words/names and then immediately asked to recall the items in any order, they struggle to recall the list. They remember of the first and last words/names better than those in the middle. This is probably due to the fact that the last names/ items are still in short term memory; people briefly recall them especially quickly and well. But after a delay, after they shift their attention from the last names/items their recall is best for the first names/items. We must remember that our memory system processes information not just by repetitive rehearsal but also by encoding its significant features. Strategies and devices that help us remember information that requires effortful processing are: encoding its meaning, visualizing, and mentally organizing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ideas of Sigmund Freud s concept of Superego, Id, and Ego are represented by Victor s father, the creation, and Victor with their actions in the novel. The natural beat for a drummer playing in this type of particular time measure would be for him to hit his high hat on all 4 beats, his bass foot pedal on one and three, and his snare on two and four.
